Always like to see new characters, though old ones getting more screentime is good too. On the subject of characters, Fergie should start engaging with everyone else more (ie, not just Bogrum) in this coming arc. She was, uh, having issues.

Though I feel a bit bad that you're shouldering the Bronze Ballast mystery on top of everything else. I know I want to avoid a situation where I'm just RPing with myself with spectators, but I don't want to add too much to the workload. Unless you like this sort of exposition specifically.
Just wanted to bring it up, I do have some ideas regarding some major developments regarding that plot specifically, but I didn't want it to conflict with anything you had in mind. Not sure if we should DM about it in detail, or me just reveal it during the RP events and improvise.

The bigger issue was that I wanted to lower the magic level. It is an ongoing issue that I end up tend to lowering as a GM across my RPs.

As for the arc you want to go with, what I want to specify is for you to push it. It is best for YOU to push it and adjust at you go. Reason? I don't know your ideas. Push it and I will DM you about potential world breaking ideas. That way we come upon a medium where you have your ideas and I can accommodate as needed without breaking my world

Fergie is the star of the next arc, and since it's your character and your story, it's on you to push. I'll just adjust as I need as the GM. That's not to say I won't. It's just that i can only go for your ideas as you present them

I missed the 3 year anniversary of this RP a week ago, so might as well take the opportunity now to say thanks for keeping this going for so long. It's been consistently Good Stuff since the beginning, and this RP will easily remain one of my favorites for a long time. The buildup is great, and it's getting me excited for this payoff coming up

Ugh, I recalled you saying 3rd anniversary of this RP and Jesus Christ it actually is. Damn sure doesn't feel like it to me. No wonder it's such a pain in the ass writing lore for this. I'm too attached. This lore is probably gonna define my RPs for years to come.

Kind of crazy to look back on where my writing was to where it is now. I would like to think that it's better, but it's not really my judgement to make. I still got a TON of work to do as GMing RPs, but this and Guild are quite literally the only RPs I've been involved with since I began Pirates

I like your writing a lot, personally. It's to-the-point while still having enough detail to make it fun to read. As for your GMing, I've had very few complaints. The creative freedom is a big win for me, especially since I tend to learn towards more off-the-wall character concepts.

Not to get too personal, but it was good timing for me to join this RP back in 2020. The most major changes in my life have happened consecutively since then (not to mention Covid kind of screwing up the world), so having a creative outlet I can rely on and invest in has combated my general stress tremendously.

Fergie: "Bears are easier to deal with, lets do that"
Ash: "Excuse me"

(sidenote, happy Dad Day to best dad Sebas for literally challenging the Devil to save his kid)

Mama Bear, now enraged: "I'll show her EASY TO DEAL WITH!"
Ash: "Those were fighting words, Fergie."

Sebas deserves a good father's day for this one. Man is gonna be done with BS after this

I would've gotten to this yesterday (Maybe a post as well), but I just got back from my deployment as of yesterday so I had a lot to unpack, both figuratively and literally

"Good! Now ye's won't go easy on me!"
The SHF was the last place Fergie was seen entering.

But that's totally fine, glad you're back safe. Take whatever time you need

Between just flying back, having to do some army admin stuff so I can get paid for being out there, and my flight to go visit my fam tomorrow, I apologize for my delay in posting. I HAVE BEEN working on it though.

On another note, I'm gonna be doing a bit more of........not character changing as much as playing more to the intent of the character.

  1. Elaina keeping slaves was always a thing (Should've been in the initial CS that she could steal senses to enhance her own), but now I know where I want to go with her. I'm gonna play into the witch thing a lot more instead of having her be the run of the mill magician
  2. As for Avery, while I've kept his capabilities on the low, I'm gonna play into the rogue type a lot more. It was already established that the most amount of rats sniffed out and killed were by Avery. He'll have a ninja-esque thing since he's in Spec Ops under Damond
  3. Naka is incredible fun to write. She is exactly where I intend her to be
  4. Demi is in a weird place because I don't want to dev her out between 2 RPs at the same time. I don't want contradictions in character lore. She's being developed in Guild and I'm liking where that's going
  5. Vespera is in the same weird place as Demi. With her, it's a debate between joining the pirates because she couldn't hope to find her parents alone, so she used Adonis's favor and she has to serve time with the group she hates......... Or dev out her adventures before the downfall of Kraiven
  6. Ash is gonna get her character arc pretty soon. Probably next actually while Fergie's story is gonna take the overarching lead
Once Fergie's story takes over, you will be effectively leading the direction of this RP

I'm happy to wait however long, though I do appreciate the heads up.

On the subject, since the pace has been pretty slow for this arc (due to its climactic nature + the sheer amount of content and side developments going on), I've had plenty of time to flesh out the core aspects and arcs of my characters. Things are still up in the air, as to be flexible for the fun surprises RP offers, but I have a better idea of where I want things to go.

Obvs I won't get super into it before actually playing it out, but for the immediate future after this arc:
  1. Bogrum and Fergie will have more interactions independently. They've been pretty joined to the hip all this time, which served a narrative purpose, but now I want them to branch out so they're not mostly existing around the other characters.
  2. I expect that Nancy and Nellie's involvement with the Basenjis at large will end with this arc, though it's neither here or there. I wouldn't want to give them a lot of focus since most of that is in Guild (though I really like the development they've gotten in Pirate), but I'm open to a sideplot if a certain someone wants to keep pestering them.
  3. I've had a WIP for a new character I mentioned a while back in the works, but now I'll get to work on polishing it before her planned appearance. (Will prioritize getting the Lungborne ref out first, since it will be quite a while before she actually shows up)
If I can make a suggestion, since you like where Demi is in Guild, maybe Ves can have more involvement here? I think it would be a neat contrast, a character being forced to work with an enemy who we the writers/audience sympathize with. Just a thought, you know where she's best suited.

As for me taking the reigns, forgive me if I'm rusty. Been a while since I took a lot of initiative, so I hope you end up enjoying what I have planned.

I really truly don't know why I decided to do this to Vespera. That girl didn't deserve this, and I teared up thinking about it as I wrote it since I see Vespera as nothing but the most loving and wholesome person. I don't know why I'm doing the same to Nancy. That man is about to haunted in his dreams by those memories

It's playing to the thing where Adonis said Kraiven was in actual ruins and being incorrect, as well as Elaina being more correct in Kraiven being nothing short of an actual dystopia, especially to a Creature of Darkness being forced to live in a Holy city

People with the greatest good often get their kindness from experiencing that sort of undeserved suffering. It's very hard to read, and I teared up myself especially at the part where Ves broke down, but that's what makes it so good. This and seeing what happened to the orphans will be a turning point for Nancy.

The juxtaposition here is brilliant. We have the pirates, who own their vices and don't shy from them, paired with civilians who likely consider themselves martyrs despite hiding their own nastiness behind Holiness. Good people who do bad things, next to bad people who appear to do good things. Of course, there's bad people and good people in both ball parks, and the war will hurt everyone regardless. But it's hard not to wonder if Kraiven's fall wasn't coincidence or a victim of circumstance, when fleeing to the Spirit Sea just delayed the inevitable rather than preventing it.

I think I'm gonna tweak Nellie's deal a little bit. Her being involved with the Elites randomly when they seem like a tightly knit, specially picked unit seems a bit of an overstep? It makes more sense in my head for her and her guildmate to have been stationed at the Gates, have a hunch based on the prior war that the civilians wouldn't be properly defended, and it being proven when they abandon their posts. It was sort of a last-minute idea I had, so I was focusing more on the immediate situation I had muse for than the actual logistics.

Or maybe I just worry too much. I often worry about taking too many liberties, and accidentally breaking lore (even though the worst thing would just be me tweaking something). Just a personal hangup of mine.

Hey, do what you need to do. You pretty much have until I make my post, assuming you notify me of any edits so I can re-read and edit.

I think Nellie being within the city itself is a good idea instead of the Gates especially since it gives an interaction between Ves, Elaina, and Nellie. The defense of the city from within is actually pretty important since Nancy probably/shouldn't be leaving the Church. Nellie HAS the skill to be an Elite (if you want) but it could be an element of racism/speciesism why she isn't IN the Elites. Plain ol fashioned nepotism and she's too much of a fish to want to get involved with. It could be yet another aspect of how Kraiven isn't some utopia

To me, that seems like the best way to have her have skill while putting her in the fight. You're not breaking lore either way though so, so go ahead

Kylesar1 Kylesar1
Thanks for the reassurance

As for what that situation should be, you bring up a good point with the racism angle. I think I want to lean towards that, but now it's a question if Nellie actually wanted to get that far, or if she got jaded and said "fuck it" at some point. Eh, irrelevant, I'll figure that out later. I'm mostly really tickled by the idea of Nellie and Elaina working together for this, and at the end, finding out "Oh, YOU'RE the one who threatened my brother".

I'll have it figured out by tonight or tomorrow. If I change anything, I'll let you know.

Kylesar1 Kylesar1

So my changes amount to... absolutely nothing! Aside from a slight format change. I think it works for her to be in the Elites, but only after the first war. Her skill when fighting droves of an army would become undeniable, plus many, many good words from Vlad, who I imagine was already with the Elites (noble family got him a nice little spot, but he definitely has the skill to have earned it.).
It plays into my original idea of Nellie being obscenely gifted and talented, while Nancy is just kind of a mediocre dude. Also character development ideas for Nellie that I won't ramble about here, I'll elaborate throughout my next posts.

Some notes:

I'm doing some terminology changes in order to make things more neutral. As time has gone on, I've been pondering over making things neutral with Holy. Instead of making Holy the default through Holy and Unholy (which robs the unholy of individuality), I'm changing the entire premise of things concerning the dark to be Daedric. So Dark, Gravity, Shadows, Night, "Black Magic", Curses/Hexes, etc. Daedric Lords are the equivalent to Holy Gods in both power and status

We'll keep the term Creature of Darkness, but it's no longer Holy vs Unholy. It's Holy vs Daedric. There is no Good vs Evil. Only Light vs Dark, both of which have their good and evil. The Trench is a Daedric location and the Holy Gods and Daedric Lords aren't necessarily at odds. At least not at a fundamental level despite them being opposites as elements. Those like Goddess Banera and Evangeline still hate them, and followers may still hate them

This fight is about to draw to a close, so if you haven't already, get prepared for Fergie's arc (assuming you're still trying to chase it after this one. You will be taking the narrative lead for that one. I'll make sure you don't break world lore, but other than that, you have free narrative reign. There will be a transition period, and the next arc will begin at/after Andouphe once they get back on the seas

I'm still in debate on who I'm putting forward to pursue in the background while Fergie's arc takes over

Note 3: Kraiven
There will be quite a few things about Kraiven left unanswered. I'm saying now that that is by design. The fate of this place is to be decided soon, but it is certainly not gonna be uncovered in full. Since it's not the focus of the RP and the Basenjis as a whole aren't interested in uncovering it, it makes sense for Adonis to want to toss it aside

Since you mentioned it, regarding the start of Fergie's arc, what I had in mind would work best if it began when they're reaching Andouphe rather than leaving. Got some exposition to set up.

Excellent. Once the time comes as they're reaching Andouphe, I'll let you know and pass it off to you there

Btw, Lattice is perfect and if anything happens to her, I'll set fire to both Kraiven and the Basenji fleet myself

I love that you like her. Lattice is going to be a sweetheart to Demi's mounting anger with Adonis. Fucking with Quincy has immediately made him someone she unforgivably dislikes. I'm going to have Lattice be in place of Demi as she takes Ves back to her family. There is no logic in my mind that'll have Demi allowing Ves to serve Adonis. Like, she will actively defy him to prevent that

This means that Lattice will be bearing the brunt of pirate life she's never lived in. A complete cupcake

BTW, Bogrum has earned Demi's favor. I think they sync kind of well. That'll come into play very soon

PSS, if Fergie is going to trash talk to Ash, don't insult Mama Bear. Saying she'll win in a fight against them together? Great. Insulting MB as an animal? Immediate dislike, as MB is to Ash as Quincy is to Demi. I DO exploit what you type (like if you make a typo in dialog, it'll reflect in the response). I think I've done this before but............geez, it's been a LONG while since this RP has started. Doesn't even feel like it

Anyways, Ash is more attune to Fergie as more brash, assertive no nonsense types likely to tell off even the divine, and Demi is more attune to Bogrum as more cautious voice of reason types. Quincy and MB are foils to THEIR respective masters so Quincy is more attune to Fergie and Ash as someone willing to kill at any type of disrespect, and MB is more attune to Bogrum and Demi as someone wanting to play the long con to assure success while mitigating risk. That makes Nellie more attune to Fergie, Ash and Quincy and Nancy more attune to Bogrum, Demi, and MB

PSSS, since the fight is wrapping up very soon, what are you going to do with Nancy/Nellie? The options are pretty much move with the Basenjis or move with the Empire (aka Goddess Mariana since it's HER city now). Either they get dropped off at Andouphe or they go with the Capital City
