Lady of Lament
~Elena Goodwin~
Elena served someone's food to them, being polite as she told them that she hoped they enjoyed the meal. Then again, who wouldn't? They had a really skilled cook, despite the fact this was a small town. She gave a smile, probably a little too fake for her liking as she walked back to the counter before hearing the small bell ring, signaling yet another customer. She turned around, about to welcome them until she noticed it had been Atticus. She gave a light blush before turning away, trying to drown out her overwhelming thoughts. 'He just gave you a book. It was nothing special.' She had to keep reminding herself, but she found herself rethinking her time at the library that morning. Ah... she could still remember the embarrassment she felt. She was too lost in thought that she had bumped into the side of a table, causing someone's drink to spill over. Thankfully, nobody but herself got a little wet.
"Oh! I'm so sorry, I didn't mean-" she found herself cut off from the man getting a bit angry at her, but she managed to make him quiet down after giving a proper apology and promising to take care of it right away. She sighed as she walked towards the back, grabbing a towel to clean up the mess she made. 'How embarrassing...' that's the only thing she could think of. She supposed she was a bit clumsier than usual today, but maybe it was because of her lack of sleep. That had to explain it. Right? She returned back to the front, picking up the ice cubes as she put them back into the cup for the time being. She used the towel to clean up the spill, letting it soak up the liquid until nothing remained. She wiped her forehead before getting up again as she trailed back into the kitchen, getting him another drink. She came back, giving the man his drink as she gave another sincere apology. Ah... apologies. That's all she found herself saying lately. She wasn't the type to step up and fight back. She was just a quiet girl who accepted life's bitterness without a second thought. Maybe she picked up the habit from back home... home.
She instantly pushed away the thought as she checked to see if anyone else needed anything before trailing to the back to clean herself up. She was still wet from the spill after all... not by a lot though, thankfully. She cleaned herself up briskly, keeping quiet as her never ending thoughts lingered in the back of her mind. Even when she was so far away from home.. it always seemed to come back to plague her. A good night's rest was what she probably needed though, despite the fact she really wanted to read the book of fairy tales. She would just have to read it some other day. She sighed wearily, making her way back to the front as she quietly waited until she could assist someone else. However, she found her gaze kept returning back to Richard and Atticus. Why... why was he there? Did he need something? She wasn't for sure, but she was too shy to ask. She merely stood there, waiting quietly.
