Magic For Sale

He didn't even wish to speak about it... Taking a deep breath, ignoring the ache in her heart, she gave Adel a weak smile. "My ideas are not worthy of consideration." She murmured. "But if you wish to listen, one such tower could be a place for us to train our magic together. Such a place would be extremely useful in the future as we discover our limits."

The one with the landing space could probably be her room, if there was space enough for her Dragon form. Ignoring the burn of wings inside her, Adenyyd also told Adel this idea, once more prefacing it with the fact that he need not listen to her at all. She would not be surprised if he didn't. Not a lot of people did. Then again, it's not like she had met a lot of people in the first place.

"Hmm.. I see your point. And if you want the large one you can have it. We'll head into town tomorrow and get some stuff for it. I think... yeah, that was the one closer to here. I'll show you it." Another goofy grin, "I don't know why you're so insistent that I don't have to listen to you... you're a better thinker than me. I can already tell. I'm all muscle." He took her hand, moving forwards and up, not wanting to meet his brothers just yet. Something was off about her, and he wanted to make sure she was at least in a better mood.

She gave an automatic denial, her gaze focused upon their joined hands. So many thoughts swirled around her head, but it all kept coming back to this. Why? Why was he touching her? Even though she had teased him all those times, she had never thought that he would even lay a hand on her. He hadn't, up til now.

She wasn't sure if the touch made her happier or just more confused. On one hand, touch was usually a sign of affection, and that meant she couldn't be doing too badly as Adel's partner. But on the other hand, touch was usually a sign of affection, did that mean that Adel... Liked her? Unable to tell the difference, she simply kept quiet and stared away, pink slightly staining her cheeks.

"Ok, straight up... and, umm..." Obviously trying to get her angry with him, like all the other girls, wasn't helping. What else could he do? What was the cause of this sudden... no, it wasn't sudden. But whatever it was, he didn't know how to fix it... smiling didn't work, taking her mind off of it didn't work... she wasn't getting angry... why was he so dumb? Anyone else would have been able to do something, he was sure, and yet... "If I made you feel bad, I'm sorry. I mean... if you're not then it's fine, but... y-you seem kinda down." This was bad... he couldn't even meet her eyes now. I'm such an idiot. Someone like her probably needed a partner like Ymir, who actually understood girls... and yet she's stuck with me.

"No, Adel, you didn't upset me." At least not much, her traitorous heart added on. "I just want to be a better partner for you. Someone stronger, who actually knows what they're doing." She glanced down as words spilled out of her mouth, unable to stop them. "A true Dragon, not a half-blood. Someone you grew up with, someone you trust and respect."

She finally forced her mouth shut, now unable to even look at him. Her hand still lay passively in his, because now she felt that if she moved it, the link between them would be broken completely. It was a fragile new creation, and she feared that the voicing of her doubts might just be too much for it. What if Adel didn't want her? Where would she go? She would be alone. Again.

"Half-blood? What's that got to do with it. There's never been a bad match before, and I'm not about to let it be one now!" Turning around he brought her into a short hug. Was that right? He hoped it was... he didn't want to hurt her. "You're my partner, Adennyd. I've been looking for you my whole life... how can I not respect you? Trust will come, in time. Or, so I've heard... I've also been told I trust to easily, so you already have mine..." A laugh, "I'm going to try my hardest to make this work, ok? I'm probably more likely to make this whole thing go downhill... I'm a horrible person, really. Everyone either hates me or thinks I'm an idiot... which I am, by the way. So I've never had a friend who was a girl, or any guy friends but my brothers.... I'll probably hurt your feelings more times than I'll even know. Can I apologize for that now?"

Adenyyd couldn't help but relax into the hug. It had been so long since she had felt a kind touch... Then Adel's words hit her and her eyes filled with tears. "I'm going to try my hardest too." She said, catching her breath on a sob. "And I'm glad you're my partner, Adel. You're not an idiot and I don't think people hate you... I don't hate you. I think you're exactly who you're supposed to be - yourself."

Sniffling slightly, she wiped her eyes and gave him a watery smile. "Thank you for being honest with me, Adel. I've never had a friend before either, so let's discover this together, okay?"

"Yeah, together. Now and forever, ok?" She was crying? He was supposed to be making her feel better.. wait, was she hurt? Did those chains have some other effect on her? Something like draining magic, or a lasting curse or... or... ok, he had to stop, or he'd start hurting her by making the hug too tight. "Besides... I'm hoping we can make it to the top, become the strongest pair in history! That way no-one can say we didn't make this work, and... and we can prove once and for all that Half-bloods are just as powerful, if not more, than full-dragons! Because I think it's amazing how you can go in both worlds, y'know?"

"Really?" She had always thought her half-blood status was a curse. To have a foot in both worlds but never truly belong... Her heart swelled with emotion. Her partner was right. But the amazing thing wasn't her blood. The amazing this was the fact that this person, Adel, accepted both sides of her equally. And now she had found the place where she belonged. By her partner's side.

Reluctantly moving away from Adel slightly, Adenyyd smiled at him. "Lets go check out those towers, okay?" She said, her voice as bright as the Sun. Nothing could bring her down from this moment.

"Yeah, ok...." That was... she just smiled? Were all girls this confusing, or just her? Ahh well, she was smiling, and that's all that mattered. He didn't want to try to figure anything else out at the moment. "We just keep going up, the tower that might or might not be your room's right above us. It... might need a lot of cleaning, actually." He hadn't gone up there in a long time, after all, and so... he expected it to be in bad condition.

Shrugging,Adenyyd almost skipped up the stairs. If she didn't know better, she would say that she was under a spell. But she would have noticed a spell being cast. This was just pure happiness. Sighing, a smile still on her face, she ran up the steps and burst into the tower at the top.

It was dusty, true, but it was perfect. Joyously shifting into her Dragon form, she discovered that she fit perfectly. The stones were warm and smooth against her scales and there was a convenient opening that allowed her access to the sky. Groaning in satisfaction, she laid down and looked at Adel. "Do you have any questions about me?" She asked suddenly, spreading out her wings before placing them back at her sides. "I've asked a lot of questions about you and your family."

It never ceased to amaze him when she changed form. Something about it... drew him in. WHen she started talking to him he was silent, just staring at her for a while, until suddenly he shook his head and said, almost sheepishly, "Sorry. Umm... well, for one... I've never seen a dragon like your dragon form before. I.. don't know how to word it, so... what kind of dragon are you?" He prepared to be thrown across the room for being rude, trying to think of other que- wow, that was actually a lot. "A-and... what kinda food do you like, do you like being in the castle, were there good times for you....?" Now turning pink he looked down a bit... he wanted to know everything about her, but how...

Adenyyd couldn't help but laugh. "Well, I'm not quite sure what I am." She said cheerfully. "I use dark magic, so... A darkness Dragon? A Night dragon? Something like that." And here she frowned. "But since we bonded, I feel like I've gotten much stronger. We should experiment with that." Then she turned to the rest of his questions.

"Well as a human, I've always had a large sweet tooth. Candy has been my weakness for so long." She sighed wistfully. "As a Dragon, I prefer antelope, they give me good exercise even as I'm hunting them. As for your second question, I do like the castle. Its nice to not be alone anymore and yet still have as much room as I need to fly. Its very nice." She said, completely ignoring the third question as though it didn't exist.

"Darkness magic? Huh. Never heard of a dragon using that..." Well, a non-celestial dragon, anyway. And for him to be partnered with one of them? Impossible. He wouldn't do a partner like that justice, with his lack of a brain. He'd thought for sure she'd end up being a fire dragon, with his name. It seemed to match everyone else, anyway. Wait... "Candy and Antelope? Cool. I think there's some in the forest, and as for candy..." He'd had an affinity for it himself, so there was a large amount of it in his room. "I think I could scrounge you up some."

Her eyes lit up. "Candy? I can have some? Really?" Her tone was that of an eager child. "I can't even... Its been so long, I don't even remember what candy I like!" She crept closer to Adel, her claws scraping on the stone. "Could you give me some? Please? I'll do anything!" Now she begged, eyes wide and pleading. However, she didn't shift back to human form. Somewhere in the back of her head, it pleased her that Adel was fascinated with her Dragon form. It made her proud, and she didn't want to shift.

"S-sure... I can go get some for you now, or later." Fascinated he was... though she was plenty beautiful before, her dragon form had a magnificence he'd never seen before. He didn't want to leave until every scale was memorized... and he could draw her, even with his horrible skills, in a way that was a perfect likeness. I want to touch her foreleg... ah, but that'd be weird. It looks so smooth, though... and now I'm distracting myself. "I have lolipops, fruit-tasting candies, pop rocks... some of everything, I think. Even chocolate."

"Oh, I'll take the chocolate, and the lollipops, and... Actually, I just want some of everything please!" It was a simple pleasure, indulging in sweets, but it was one that had been denied to her for so long. Unwillingly her thoughts drifted to Adel's third question, the one she hadn't answered. Were there good times for her?

That question made her heart ache. But she was very good at ignoring that. Turning her attention back to Adel, she flopped down to the ground in front of him, rolling onto her back and looking up at him. "You don't mind, do you?" She asked.

"Not at all." Not in the least... as long as he remembered to get some more when they went out. And he would... it was his habit to always buy more candy. 90% of the time his brothers just threw it all out, though... Down the stairs and grabbing the sack, back up em faster than he would have expected... and the bag was being opened in front of her head a few minutes later. He panted, slightly out of breath, "Here you go... pick and choose!"

Abandoning all sense of manners or politeness, Adenyyd grabbed the bag with her mouth and shook it, sending all the candy down her gullet. A small moan of pleasure at the sweetness escaped her before the quick buzz of sugar energy made her sit straight up, grinning.

"Lets go do something!" She said, excitedly. She was full of energy and now she wanted to do something! "Come on, Adel." She whined, nudging him slightly. "Lets go play with our magic!"

"P-play with our magic?" The idea baffled him... how could they do that? The only magic he knew how to use was used for comparative purposes. Fireball, flare arrow, a lighting spell... shield... "H-how do you do that, Adenyyd?" He wasn't sure at all that it was a good idea, but she was soo excited about it.... he wanted to at least try.

"Oh it's so easy!" She breathed out a spell and it seemed as though there was no light in the room. "Now you see, now you don't!" A reversal of the spell and light was restored, Adenyyd now in human form. She skipped over to Adel and took his hand, smiling foolishly at him. "Let's go!" And she tugged him down the stairs.

Sliding down the banisters, she cast silly spells left and right. One to make a door disappear, another to turn the light off every time someone walked into the room. It was all illusion and trickery, but that was what darkness magic was good for. Direct offense wasn't really her style, but Adenyyd and her black scales fit in perfectly at night time.

He was tugged down, looking suitably surprised, she was... that was... illusions? Amazing... the only things he could do were make flames and blow stuff up. To the left, the right, up and down... she was running through the entire mansion casting prank spell after prank spell.... he managed to see Ymir get caught up in the one where the light was turned off, and let out a simple laugh at it. Hilarious... especially the look on his face when it was back to normal.

It was fun, it was exhilarating, it was... It was... All of a sudden Adenyyd yawned, her sugar high waning as her energy decreased. Looking around, she spotted a nice looking room and plopped down onto the bed, yawning again. Looking to Adel, she smiled tiredly. "That was fun... We should do it again." She said, yawning yet a third time. Then she fell back upon the bed and fell asleep. She didn't know that she had picked Adel's room to nap in, how would she?

(I'm laughing here.... so good!)

"Y-yeah...." she's sleeping in my bed?! Shaking his head confusedly he moved the sheet that was luckily off center so that it was covering her. That had been amazing... she'd been so alive... once she was deeply asleep he moved some of her hair out of her eyes, "That was... you having fun, huh? I hope you find it in you to have a lot of it from now on..." He felt like she deserved it. Silently he spent the time she was napping next to her, waiting calmly.

Her dreams were confused, fragmented pieces of a whole that she didn't know how to put back together again. She felt like it would have been a good dream, if she could have completed the puzzle, but with her failure the nightmares invaded. She whispered in fear as they got worse, pounding into her head with brutal intensity, increasing to the point where she screamed... And awoke.

She leapt from the bed, glancing arou d wildly, still locked in the fear of her dream. When she caught sight of Adel, she almost blasted him apart with a spell before she realized who he was. All of a sudden she felt weak, sinking down to sit on the edge of the bed. A nightmare hadn't caught her like that in a long time... "I'm sorry." She managed to get out, not looking at Adel, full of shame.
