All Stories Must End, Even The Ones We Love

The Kingdom of Atherton and the Kingdom Thieya are at war.

Who's side are you on?

image-png.223666

The year is 1804, two kingdoms live in harmony. The kingdom of Atherton and the kingdom of Thieya have lived in harmony for 100s of years. A single gem graced upon the earth from God himself is the only thing that has kept the peace going. But this time, the kings are selfish human beings, unlike the ones prior to the throne. They want this crystal, to keep it in their castle, to treasure... To flaunt. A fight broke out, right by the scare site that holds this holy jewel. Knights clashed, swords gleaming in the thick heavy air of the summer. Until the faithful moment when one human got too close, destroying the glowing object of peace. If those thought that a war was going on before, they haven't seen how it is now. There a border now, an actual wall, separating the two lands. No contact at all, zero. Spies are commonly found, threat letters, the world is in total chaos. Friends outside of the wall don't exist, only enemies. There is no such thing as love anywhere but inside, nobody can change that. Or can they?

The sun was cast in the center of the sky, basking both halves of the land, both kingdoms were drowning in the warm summer glow. Though, it was different, at least it was to Cobalt. He sat on the highest floor of the gothic palace he resided in, sinking deep back into his velvet chair. His pale legs clad with navy shorts that barely touched his knees were crossed, chin in palm. His deep blue eyes scanning over the scene that was playing out below him distastefully. His cheeks were turning a shade of pink from that rage that he was struggling to push down, nobody understood how badly he wanted to go down to the square and set things straight.

It had so happened that a spy from their rival kingdom, Atherton, had somehow passed past the thick security lines and had been found out. It was the second time in one month, Cobalt hated that fact the most. Due to the poor procedures his father was taking the once power ridden kingdom was coming out to the weak one. If he was king this wouldn't be happening, not at all. The measly man was surrounded by knights wearing nothing other than black. The closer he looked the darker his face, and even neck, was turning. Having enough he stood up, thick heels of his leather boots hitting the dark oak wood floor.

Storming over towards the door he flung it open violently, resulting in it hitting the wall and leaving a sizable scuff mark in the near perfect paint. Life in the castle was going on as usual, the Knights that weren't on guard or taking care of the imposter were roaming around the building, keeping a watchful eye. Cobalt crossed his arms, hands squeezing the matching dark blue fabric of his shorts. Continuing briskly down the carpeted hallway. He was going to end the situation, he didn't really care what stopped him. Turning a corner he pushed past a crowd of men, ignoring their laughter. Picking up the pace he began to start a slow run, almost jog. Not only a minute later he not so gracefully ran into another. Scoffing he bit down on his lip, "Get out of my way!"

Richard looked out the clear window of his study, the warm sunlight gracing his face as he looked out over the Kingdom. It reflected beautifully off his silver like hair. Letting out an annoyed sigh he turned on his heel, taking carefully but loud steps towards a chess board. He grabbed a black pawn and moved it across the board, knocking over a white one, "What will you do now, I wonder." A faint smile appeared on his face before he looked up and briskly walked out of the study.

Richard was not very concerned about the spies, they are bound to show up, no matter how much security you have. They are like mice, they plot and hide, they are opportunist, but they were prey, for Richard was the owner of the cat that ate the mice. He continued to make a brisk pace down the hall, feet loud against the castle floors, cape trailing quickly behind him. Rounding a corner he felt something hit him, looking down it was his son, Cobalt, and before Cobalt could go any further, he placed firm grip on the boy's left shoulder, "Cobalt, my dear son... You really should look where you are walking, you'll never know who you'll run into." He offered the boy a small, devilish grin.

Eden was nervous but exited as he made his way through the castle. He tried to keep calm but he could not help but have mixed feelings for his new role. It was what the King and Queen wanted him to do, maybe soon he would be ready for the knighthood of Atherton! He had to do a good job and impress the King and Queen or he would never move up the ladder. He made his way to the Royal Chambers of the castle, at the very top. He couldn't count how many times he had gotten lost in the large Atherton Castle. HE still had a hard time getting to certain places. He stopped outside the King and Queens chambers and pondered whether or not thanking them for the huge opportunity.

He knocked on the door lightly. "H-Hello?" He spoke quietly and nervously, it was rather unlike him. He had always felt comfortable around the King, and enjoyed the caring, motherly smiles the Queen usually gave to him. But this time it was different, he had been given a huge job: Protecting the Princess of Atherton, the daughter of the King and Queen. He had worked and trained his whole life for something like this, he wanted to make the King and Queen proud. He wanted them to know how thankful he was for taking him in. He couldn't mess this up, not now.

Eden continued to knock and then stopped. "Must not be around I guess..." He said softly, a bit relieved. He turned around and continued up the stairs and down the hall to the Princess's chambers. He had never formerly met the princess, only seen her walking around the castle. She seemed friendly enough, and they were around the same age. He stopped out side her door and made sure his hair was acceptable. It was messy, but it would have to do. He took a deep breath. "Here goes nothing..." HE knocked on the door. "Hello? Princess?" He spoke in a friendly voice. "It's Eden!"

The sun seemed brighter than usual in Jessica's eyes. She squinted her blue eyes, making herself a bit blind. "O-Oh god! Th-That's a terrible idea..." She started to rub her eyes as all she could see was a weird little circle when ever she blinked. The bright sun filled her room, making every color beam more than it usually did. It made Jessica feel warm inside as she looked around in her room. She opened up her balcony doors despite her parents telling her not to because anyone can take her any minute. She rolled her eyes as she thought about the lecture her parents gave her about it. She thought it was a silly idea, she's not a little girl. Well.. Maybe... Well yea she is. Jessica hated to admit it but it's the truth.

Jessica walked out on to the balcony and looked over to the other kingdom. It wasn't a sight that was easy to see but it was there... faint in the horizon. It wasn't as easy to see with the sun glaring into her eyes. She remembered visiting the kingdom once in a while but now... her parents just stopped. Even when she asked, they wouldn't give her an answer because she was too young to understand. Jessica frowned slightly and started twiddling her thumbs the more she thought about it. She took a deep breath and sighed, wiping the thought off her mind. She heard a voice and then a knock behind her doors. She turned around, going back inside, closing the glass doors behind her. "Eden...?" She whispered to herself, thinking about who he was. "Oh yea Eden!" She flung both her doors wide open. "Hello! What brings you here today~?" She smiled delightfully. She didn't really know him that well but all she knew he worked somewhere around the castle. She saw him here and there, checking him out once in a while but she never really approached him as her parents told her to not mess around with the workers.

Ayame stood outside the castle, the wind blowing in her face. Her stomach grumbled due to the fact she didn't have breakfast. Ayame went every morning to check up on her brother every weekend. She looked up in the sky, checking for anything unusual. Nothing had happened, it had been a slow month. She sighed and pulled out her sword, practicing a few moves.

Cobalt's scowl deepened further, how could his father be so carefree about such a big event? An event that could very well trigger the downfall of the kingdom. Raising a small, bony hand he pushed off his fathers own hand. "It's your fault this is happening." He stated calmly, eyes narrowed as he stared up at Richard. Cobalt knew he was far from intimating from his current stance, he could barely touch his dad's chin even with the extra two inches from the heels he was wearing. "Take the responsibility and discipline them." He sighed, he always had to take matters into his own hands. Sometimes he felt that the king wasn't even a king.

Taking a low breath Cobalt fumbled with the strings of his eyepatch, he always hated snapping at people, but he couldn't help himself. Every little thing bothered him, it was horrible. "I'll do it myself, okay?" He asked, voice full of venom, though it was little more than fake. While he did feel sorry for treating his father with disrespect he had a reputation to uphold. He wasn't known for being a softy towards anybody or anything.

Eden was delighted that she was so friendly, he loved friendly people. This would make his job so much easier. He was surprised, however, that she had not known about his assignment to her. "You don't know miss?" He scratched his head. "I have been assigned to be your personal bodyguard and safe keeper by the King and Queen, your parents." He looked around her room from the doorway and then back to her. "May I come in?" He asked politely.

Richard offered his young son a small smile, going down on one knee to be at eye level with the small figured boy, "Cobalt, it is my fault, you are right. That is exactly why I will deal with this spy, personally." Once more that grin of his came back, though it was larger, fiercer. It wasn't a secret that many disliked Richard's son, he was whiny and arrogant. He'd make a good King in some aspects, perhaps during a time of peace though.

Richard rose to his feet once more, looking down at the boy, "Well, shall we go? I do have an execution to perform." He briskly turned on his heel, his grin widening, "And my dear boy, watch your tone with me. You may be a prince but you've yet to earn the right to speak like that with me. Understood?" He glanced back at his son, his light blue eyes filled with an uneasy glint of something.

Jessica shook her head no. "No one told me the news... It was either that or they told me when I was napping... Eheheheh..." She scratched the back of head and chuckled awkwardly. "But I know I have a bodyguard now. I don't really understand why my parents think I need one.. I don't do anything bad... At least I don't think so." She grabbed Eden's wrist with both her hands and pulled him into her room. "Yes! Yes! Yes! Of course you may come in! I rarely get visitors so this is amazing!" She smiled brightly as she was excited that someone was here for company.

"I apologize if my room is a mess, I wasn't expecting someone to be here." Jessica let go of Eden's wrist and twirled around as her dress followed the movement. "Hey Eden, is it just me or is the sun a lot brighter than usual?" She once again, opened her balcony glass door wide open and spun around once again with her hair flowing with the air, facing Eden.

Everest was feeling hot, mostly because the warm sun hitting her heavy armor but also she was filled with rage. The tall girl hated when the knights would catch a spy, it makes her feel like she isn't doing a good job protecting the Lords and the Kingdom. Although the spy wasn't the only thing she was angry about. It was the fact that her Commader wouldn't let her join them in the execution. "It would be best if you just guard the halls, everything will be taken care of." Was the exact words he said to her. So now, Everest walked around the halls for the 10th time today in irritation and sweat. "When will I ever get my time to prove that I'm a worthy knight if they just keep sending me to hall duty!" Everest mumbled to herself.

Eden could not help but stare, the way the sun cast against her golden, shining hair was simply breathtaking. He shook his head and snapped out of it. "Y-Yeah... I suppose it's a bit bright..." He took a deep breath and looked around the room. "Nah, you should see my bedding area, thats really a mess." He chuckled and turned back to her. "Well, we are at war, spies about, you never can be too safe, especially being royalty and all. "He smiled and walk over to the balcony. "Woa... you have an incredible view... too bad some of it is obstructed by that.... place." He turned around. "Well, its nice to finally meet you, I've seen you around, never really had the time to say hi."

@xMellowmint

Jessica instantly frowned as she heard the word 'war' come out of Eden's mouth. She mumbled quietly under her breath "...We're in... war?" She looked down at her tiled floor. So that's why we haven't visited Theiya in a while... She looked back up at Eden and once again smiled. "I honestly wouldn't have said hi back, my parents told me not to talk to workers. Never told me why but just told me not to." Jessica giggled softly. "It's nice to actually talk to other people that's not a part of the Royal family."

Cobalt frowned as Richard dropped to one knee, treating him like a child. "I'm not a kid." He chided, face going red from the embarrassment. The last thing he wanted was to be viewed as was a kid. "Stop trying to be like a hero now." He grunted, turning on his heels and waving his hand to shoo off a few servants. He hated when people stared at him, especially when his father treated him like this. It made him feel weak, and he knew that he was far from it.

Cobalt's frowned deepened as he tried to understand what his father was saying, "What? I can say what I want to say." He mumbled, standing up straighter. "Fine, take care of the spy, and do it properly." He hissed, locking his hands together. The last time something of this sort occurred, Cobalt had to do the dirty work. His father was doing nothing but torturing him for information. "Don't make me kill again." He reminded Richard, it's not that it bothered him. But he perferred that his clothes didn't stain with blood, they were nicer than anybody else's. "That's either your job or the knight's. I'm too young to do the so."

"shoot..." Eden mouthed to himself. "I uh... Im sorry, I thought you knew... Everybody knows!" He had been with her for less than five minutes and already screwed something up. "Hey... um, you think you could maybe not tell the King or Queen I told you that..." He rubbed his neck.

Eden looked for somewhere to sit but thought it would be rude to do so if she had not offered. He just stood and looked back out the balcony. "Yeah, its nice to meet someone who's not ordering me around..." He covered his mouth. "N-Not that I'm complaining! I am a loyal serviceman to the Royal Monarchy of Atherton..." Oh man, he had really screwed up now, first class treason on his first real job. He sighed. He really was thankful for everything the King and Queen had done for him, he just wanted his shot at glory, at greatness.

"A-Anyway..."

Richard chuckled to himself as Cobalt acted as himself, "Don't let your arrogance and naivety get the best of you, you are a kid, but you are a Valentine, so tread carefully with me." Richard let out a sigh, he wasn't a fan of his son's personality. Turning on his feet once more, he took a few loud steps towards Cobalt, lowering to whisper into his ear, "If you have a problem with me or anyone, look at it in the face, and deal with it, don't turn your back on it and mumble under your breath." He moved his head to the boy's other ear, "And I am not playing the hero, I am the villain. Call me a hero again and I might burn all your clothes and make you live in the slums for a week."

Richard straightened and looked around, spotting a female knight walking around the halls, "You. Knight... Blast started with an E. Everest! Come here. I want you to accompany me to the execution." He pointed at her, before giving some last advice to his son, "I will command when you need commanding. Oh. And, son, you aren't a Valentine tell you've killed and soaked in blood."

Jessica crossed her arms and raised an eyebrow. "Maybe I will tell them." She looked away and then back at Eden, changing her facial expression from a concerned look to devious smirk. "But I won't" Jessica chuckled as she walked outside on the balcony. "Don't need be so nervous. I won't tell him." Jessica laughed and sat down on balcony and faced Eden. "You don't have to always stand up, sitting down is a lot more comfortable." She patted the cement next to her and turned around on the balcony edge where her feet started to dangle. She looked down, listening to the river run around the Kingdom.

Her parents always hated her doing this because she could fall off any minute into the cascading water but she knew she wouldn't fall off unless someone would push her. She turned her head towards Eden.
Nah... he wouldn't push me off... She drifted her head up, looking at the sun once again, blinding herself like before. She started to rub her eyes as it bothered her head. "N-Not again!"

@Eden Smithe

Everest stopped in his tracks when she heard her name. When she turned around seeing the King, she tighten up her form and looked at him. "Yes sire!" She said and walked over to his side. Once there she looked over at the small Prince who seemed like he was irritated by something. 'He must've been arguing with his father again...' Everest thought to herself, then quickly turned away feeling that staring wasn't appropriate. Her mind then wandered off to the execution. 'I actually get to go! Finally, the king himself picked me!' She thought to herself trying her best not to smile and look unprofessional. @Jacob Berry @Phantasia

Cobalt's jaw tightened, "You're a horrible father you know." He huffed, blue eye dancing with rage, he hated when he didn't have anything to say in response. It was the worst feeling ever, especially when it was with his know it all father. "You would never do that, you care too much about your reputation." He snickered, a small smirk gracing his normally pouty lips. Toying with the lace of his collar he stood straighter, wanting to seem bigger than he actually was. Cobalt knew it wasn't going to help, but it made him feel more secure and powerful.

Cobalt shot a glare at the staring Everest before she turned away. "I don't need to be told what to do, I'm perfectly capable of controlling myself and doing the right things." He stated clearly, not moving from his position. "Don't make yourself seem any better than what you actually are. It's foolish for a king." He continued on, placing his fidgety hands behind his back. "Then I suppose I won't be a Valentine, a royal member's job is not to get their hands dirty." He hissed, eye settling on his father.

~ @Jacob Berry ~

Eden sighed in relief when he hear her. "Man... you had me for a second!" He chuckled and walked out onto the balcony with her. "Hey, maybe thats not the best idea... you could fall you know." Eden said as he approached her. He sat down next to her anyways, not wanting to look like a stiff. "Here, I actually brought you a welcoming present." Eden handed her a bright yellow, hand sown sun hat he had bought at the market. "Figured being on the top chambers in the castle, it would get sunny. Bought it at the market, don't have any family or friends so I figured why not. Hope it fits you. If not I could see if they have any other sizes..." He dangled his legs off the balcony and looked down, shaking his head. He hated heights, but he did not want to look weak so he just sat there, hoping she would like the gift.

@xMellowmint

Richard shrugged lightly, "Valentines make for awful parents in general." He rolled his eyes, for how snarky his son was, he wasn't the best at really figuring Richard, "You have no idea what I'll do to get my point across, even if it means my reputation." He turned around once more to look at his son, offering a small, uneasy smile as he lashed out at Everest.

"You shouldn't say such things to your loyal subjects, it'll make this hate you even more than they already do." He brought a leather clad hand to his face, running the cold leather over a scar, "Perhaps, you would make for a decent Valentine though."He paused, for dramatic effect of course, "Or you'll never become King." He touched Everest's shoulder, his voice was still consistent and low, never once did it fault, "Shall we be off, Knight. We do have an execution to go to. Perhaps I'll let you stick a dagger in the poor sod." Offering a wave of the hand at Cobalt, he briskly made his way down the hall before stopping, "I'll see you soon, Cobalt. Play dress-up or something while I am away." He then continued down the hall.
