Fandom Into the fire (1x1 MzHyde/Gallifrog)

"Yeah, she was is.......was......is crazy." He corrected himself uncertainly, not knowing if she was still as crazy he remebered her. Granted she had been a kid at the time, and a young teenager when he last saw her. Thinking about her brought the pain back to him, a deep rooted emotional pain. She had tried, which was more than anybody else had done. It was then that he knew he'd made the right choice. The others wouldn't see it until later of course, but they would come around.

John noticed the corrections and the frenzy of emotions passing through his face. It was understandable, given what had happened. "We've all done stupid shite like that, but sounds like unlike the rest of us, she has style." He replied, giving Elliott a look that conveyed far more emotional comfort than his words ever could. It showed that John understood. The almost imperceptible slump of Elliott's shoulders told him that Elliott understood.

Kay just gave him a warm caring smile. She really did want to be there for him, and when John spoke up and gave him a look she knew in that moment Elliott would be okay. She never tired of seeing their family bond be openly shown like this. It showed so much more to their personalities than what they liked showing people.

Eventually she finished eating and leaned back in her seat, finishing her drink with a satisfied sigh. She was well and truly full and couldn't eat another bite. "I'm stuffed!" She commented.

Elliott and John fell back shortly after. There was of course leftovers, which would feed them all tomorrow. "Yer not the only one." John sighed, as he flopped backwards into the couch. "three out of three" Elliott added, kicking his feet up onto the table, careful to not hit the food bowls. He took a look at himself in the camera of his phone, too stuffed to actually make an effort and walk over to the bathroom.

It looked just as awful as it had earlier, although the swelling had reduced, it was still as spectacularly mottled as it had been earlier. Combine that with the split lip and existing scar anybody who met him in a dark alleyway would most definitely acucuse him of being some kind of mugger or thug. John noticed this "looking at it won't make it go away kiddo. You're just gonna hhae to get used to it for a while."

Kay curled up on her chair and she too noticed Elliott looking once more at the state of himself. She smirked when John all but called him out for looking at it yet again. She did suddenly think she could probably heal him like she did to John that time, but at the same time she did think he had to deal with the consequence of his bruises and split lip.

She propped her elbow up on the armrest and held her head in her hand whilst still leaning back as she relaxed. Her legs pulling up as she always did, she briefly closed her eyes. Kay had no plans to do anything at this moment in time, not if she could help it anyway. She was planning on making the most of the drama free moment whilst they had it.

"I'm fully aware, and besides, I deserve it, and won't be magicking it away." Elliott felt like an onlooker, and to be honest, slightly uncomfortable. He knew he shouldn't think like that, but that was how he felt. He also had things to do, something he had been procrastinating over for a while. But he couldn't procrastinate any longer. It was now or never.

He looked at John "if you need me, I'll be doing some recordings up on the roof." But it was clear from his tome that he didn't want to be disturbed or interrupted, that he wanted to be alone for the next while. John picked up on that and nodded. "Don't beat yourself up too much kiddo." Elliott, true to his word wemt into his room, re-emerging with the guitar case, and a backpack that contained his recording kit and battery packs.

He shut the door quietly behind him, before making his way to the roof. With Elliott gone, John sighed, letting out all the pent up emotions.

Kay had to give Elliott props for not wanting to magic his way out of his current state. It was actually admirable to her in a way. She glanced at him when he said about going to the roof to do some recordings. She picked up on his discomfort of being in the room and felt bad about it. She didn't want the change to make him feel uncomfortable.

When Elliott left for the roof, she looked at John when he sighed, "what's up? He'll be okay John" she spoke up to him. Just from his sigh, she knew he had something on his mind.

John ran a hand through his hair and sighed again, before answering Kay's question "Yeah, I know he will, but I'm still worried about him anyway. He may have done some idiotic stuff, and he clearly regrets it, but he's still my idiot kid. I'm still wondering what could be worth so much to him that he would risk breaking into the Watchtower and pissing off the person he's clearly in so deep for in order to get his hands on it. "He was aware of how hypocritical it was that he was giving out about Elliott doing something he would have done himself, given half a chance.

"And something's on his mind, maybe it's just regret, maybe it's something more. But he mentioned Cal earlier something he never does. She's his sister and was the only one of his family to stand by him when he was being exiled." he explained, knowing that Kay would have no idea of the significance of Cal.

Kay got off her chair and sat next to him after listening to what he first had to say. She ran her fingers through the back of his hair in a calming way. "Of course you're gonna worry about him John...that's a given. Even I'm a bit concerned about him truth be told." She told him softly.

Then he explained who Cal was and Elliott's mood and clear emotions over dinner all made sense. "That makes sense..no wonder he was how he was.." she replied. "I believe he'll open up when he's good and ready to. And if he won't talk to you, maybe he'll talk to me due to us both being adopted. You open up to me don't ya?" She smiled but her tone did show seriousness in it as well.

"I can also tell he's a bit uncomfortable by the change of atmosphere in this place. Like most kids, something changes majorly and it throws them off guard. Elliott is no different in that sense. I have kinda fallen into your lives out of nowhere. It's alot for him to deal with. He's been used to the family he's had with you and Chas and company. I'd assume it's going to be like starting again for him." She tried to explain as best as she could. She had no idea if she was making sense, but she hoped John was able to get the jist of what she was saying.

The feeling of Kay's fingers in his hair, combined with what she said did indeed have a calming effect on him. Everything she said made sense, though he was surprised when Kay said that even she was concerned about it. But he was also happy knowing that he wasn't just imagining things or reading too much into the situation. After all his weird mood could simply just be the after effect of being floored by Jay.

"You are right about this sudden overnight change" He gestured at the general area of the apartment. "effecting him. But as long as he talks to somebody about what's going on his head, keeping it in will only makes things worse." He realised exactly how hypocritical he sounded at that moment in time. "Which is rich coming from me all things considered" He smirked slightly, hearing how ridiculous it sounded for him to be giving advice about opening up to people.

Kay was glad she was making sense like she hoped. A smirk crept on her own face when John said what he did. She was about to call him out on it when he did it himself. "You said it. But hey, if you can find yourself opening up to me when you're used to being closed off? There's hope for Elliott too." She replied to him, continuing her little massage on the back of his head to keep him calm.

Times like this really proved Kay had her mature wise moments, even if she was also the type to fall off the couch stuck in a blanket at other times. Then she started thinking randomly back to Seattle. "Just had a thought...when we were in Seattle, we overheard those other diners talking about the Justice League and alien invasions or whatever right?" She began, pausing for a second. "What if that's linked to why Ell snuck into the watch tower?" She theorised.

Part of her didn't want John worrying and stressing himself out over this tonight, but when she got a thought in her mind, she had to voice it.

John had honestly forgotten about what he had overheard in Seattle, between lying to Max and the drama with Elliott it had slipped his mind. But it did make sense, far more sense than he would have liked it to. "Unfortunately I think you could be on to something. Whatever is going on in there must be extremly important to risk personally breaking in. Plus Jay is alien and she's involved.

The more John spoke, the more the pieces began to slot together in his head. Realisation began to dawn. "And she did mention aquiring files a few days ago, that were urgent and I quote 'worse than we thought'. It would also explain why Bruce was so pissed. Let's face it, I'm the last person you'd want blundering into your alien negotiations. I'd probabaly start an interplanetary war or something." He said with a slight smirk, as if he'd be secrtely proud if he singly handedly started a war with aliens.

Kay listened intently to what he had to say. He made a lot of sense and everything did indeed slot together way too well. "It does explain a lot of that's the case." She said sighing, resting her head on his shoulder.

"Anyway, let's try and not think about stuff that's going to stress us out for a little bit. I like calm you much more than stressed you" She added, with a slight smile. It's not that she was insensitive to the situation at hand, it did worry her and concern her over Elliott's safety. She just wanted one evening without being plagued with negativity. The curiosity and nerves of what Chas read hadn't exactly left her mind either, on top of everything else.

She stared at his arms and traced her fingers over the tattoos that were showing. She found it calming for her.

"I like calm me more than stressed me too" John told her. He understood what she meant. There would no doubt be plenty of other times to be stressed out over absolutely everything. He mightn't show it as much as Kay did, but John wanted to make the most of the semblance of normalicy his life had gained.

He could feel Kay's fingers running over the tattoos, a gesture he himself had first done when he got his first tattoo, one on the side of his ribcage. The others had come shortly after, the ones on his forearms to disguise that jagged vertical scar lines, and then his whole back, because....well why not? He would have put his arm around her, but she was clearly engrossed with her tracing.

She smiled at his response, happy that he got what she was meaning. The last thing she wanted to do was piss him off with an ill formed comment.

She wished she could get tattoos, she always envisioned more on herself but Fee never liked the idea. She fidgeted ever so slightly to get more comfortable before eventually stopping her tracing of his tattoos, and draped her arm across him. "What you wanna do for the rest of the night?" She asked, finally opening her mouth after being silent for a while. She wondered about watching a film or something, but then she wasn't sure what she was in the mood for and she didn't want to look like an utter wimp in front of John like she was in front of Kane the other night. Though she had a feeling eventually he'd see that side of her and he would no doubt find it hysterical.

John wrapped his arm around her, pulling her closer. When she asked what he wanted to do, he was kind of stumped. Usually he'd go out and find a bar to get pissed drunk in, or meet up with some of the people who didn't actually hate his guts. Or just kind of flop down on the couch with Elliott and some cigarettes snd together they would get through some of the ridiculously long watch list they had.

"Usually I'd either drink too much, smoke too much or get through some of the massive list of tv and films we drew up a while back. It's actually ridiculous how much there is to watch. Look at this" He reached under the chair and pulled a sheaf of papers covered in his and Elliott's handwriting. The first pages were crossed out, but the majority were untouched. It was a list of films and TV show seasons, each with various marks and comments beside them, denoting who had watched what and where they were.

When replied and pulled a massive list of unwatched films and TV shows she couldn't believe they were THAT behind. Though she could hardly say much, it's not like she exactly had the chance to watch much herself. She scanned through everything and realised there were several she hadn't even heard of let alone seen on the list.

"Well...we could see if some of these are on Netflix? I didn't know some of these films and shows existed" she chuckled at the last bit she said. "But I'll let you pick because otherwise we'll be here forever if I try and pick." She said, slyly passing the buck over to him. She noticed the one horror she saw the other night on the list and pointed to it. "Except that. Watched it with Kane the other night" she added.

"Yeah, we wasted a lot of weekends researching for that list. We loterally found every good show and movie to ever exist. It started off as a joke that we'd write everything down, but somehow it became a reality. And we even went as far as to have a digital back up, just in case something happens. And it' being added to to include new releases as well" He explained with a fond smile.

He noticed that Kay had pointed out a horror film and had a feeling it might also be a subtle way of saying that she wasn't into horror films. He consulted the list, to see what he was behind in, before deciding on an crime drama which he and Elliott had only started watching recently. Elliott was already three episodes ahead. "I'm behind on this" He said by means of explanation

Kay laughed at his story. It was totally believable to her they'd do that and she could easily picture it in her mind. She looked at what John pointed out and nodded. "Then we'll watch that" she said with a smile.

"And FYI... I genuinely did watch that horror the other night. It made me drop my phone at a jump scare. But I will deny that of you tell anyone" she admitted. "Dammit Kay! You weren't going to admit that!" she mentally scolded herself. Though, he'd already witnessed her falling off the sofa so it's not like it could be all that surprising she'd jump at a horror film and drop her phone. She was clumsy like that at times.

"It's kind of like a cross between The Mentallist and Limitless, insanely smart protagnaist who can see things in ways that others can't." He explained as he booted up the TV, not knowing if she had watched either of the other shows, but felt it was worth saying that anyway.

He nearly started laughing when Kay said she jumped at the jump scare, but he managed to keep it in. But the laughter was visible in his eyes. "You're gonna regeret telling me that."

She had seen The Mentalist a bit when she was able to crash in motels and it happened to be on TV. So she understood his little explanation. "ah I see!" She replied.

She looked up at him and could see him trying to not laugh. "I guessed from the moment it came out my mouth! But I will so deny it if it's spoken out loud." She retorted. She really would too, she was stubborn enough to deny being scared at a film. Just like she'd forever deny the time she cried at Princess and the Frog when Ray the firefly died. Her friends at the time would always hold it over her and even to this day she will deny it happened. Even though it did.

"Oh I don't doubt that." John smirked back, knowing full well that it was a matter of pride. He didn't have a fear of horror films, his lifestyle had cured him of that. So he usually spent the entirety of horror films bitching about everything and giving his own running commentary which Elliott (and occassionally Chas when he joined them) would die laughing at.

He readjusted his arm around her before hitting play. The show was good, with all kinds of unexpected plot twists and turns and drama. The main character had an unknown condition that meant she was insanely smart at solving problems, but just slightly socially oblivious, with a habit of arriving at scene, pointing out exactly what had happened and pissing off the forensics teams.

Kay felt that weird emotion that wasn't exactly smugness at his reply, but it was near that. She just couldn't explain the emotion or put a name to it. Pride definitely had something to do with her denying she got caught out at jump scare though. Mostly because she felt horror films.shouldnt scare her still considering her life.

When he readjusted his arm to get comfortable, she did too so she could still be close to him but also see the TV without getting neck cramp. She took over the rest of the couch with her legs stretching out. It took mere moments for her to get invested in the show with John. This was something he'd learn about her, she'd neither be on board straight away or get restless and distracted within ten minutes if she didn't get gripped. Luckily, it was the former with this show.

They ended up watching two episodes as it was a two-parter sceneario. It was engrossing for John, who occassionally added in a smart arse comment or two, but stayed quiet for the most part. John ended up with both arms around Kay, slumped over slightly around her.

It was just at the end of the second episode that the window opened and Elliott clambered through. His hair was wet and the drops of water on the guitar case told them it had been raining. He shook his hair out, depositing the guitar and backpack on the table. The guitar case was covered in punk stickers, Mucous Membrane stuff and travel labels, some of them clearly from John. "What kind of hour do you call this?" John joked from the couch. "earlier than you'd ever be"

Any time he made a smart arse comment, she did react with either a eye roll or chuckle depending on the context. As he ended up slumped slightly over her and with both arms around her, she felt content and comfortable.

She looked up when Elliott clambered through the window. She wondered how she never noticed it had started raining, and put it down to really getting into the TV show. Glancing at the stickers she could just tell some of those stickers were from John. She smirked when he joked towards Elliott about the time he came in and stifled a laugh at Elliott's retort. "He got you there" she chimed in, aiming it at John.

John took the teasing from both of them well, "he learned from the best" he aimed that part at Kay. "that I did" Elliott conceded, there was no denying that his tendency towards sarcastic and smartarsey comebacks had come from years of listening to John do the same thing. "weather's gone absaloutly shite. It's pissing for Britain out there" he added, gesturing outside where it had indeed begun to start raining heavily. The sky was grey and swollen

Elliott pulled out his laptop, a set of headphones and a charging cable, and began to set himself up on the kitchen counter. "what are you doing kiddo?" John asked from his point on the couch. "ah, just a bit of audio editing and splicing. Nothing ground breakingly exciting. When you get to the end and your brains still have enough remaining synapses to cope with one more episode give me a shout and I'll join ye." he answered, with a more relaxed demeanor than earlier. Being on his own had done him good.
