Fandom Into the fire (1x1 MzHyde/Gallifrog)

"Maybe I do" he smirked. He was glad kay felt the same way about leaving. He did not under any circumstances want to be around for her undoubtedly awkward family reunion. Plus it would no doubt lead to him having to introduce himself, and he somehow doubted that her adoptive parents would be thrilled at the idea of him being a 'demonolgist, exorcist and master/petty dabbler of the dark arts'.

He began to walk back in the direction of The House. Thankfully it hadn't decided to dematerialise while they were gone. Nobody was paying it much attention, it was after all magically cloaked and shielded.

She playfully have him a thud in the arm when he said he might wanna see her laughing that hard. "Asshole" she joked. She now decided to be careful around him incase he got in one of those moods to bring her real laughter out of her. It wasn't the prettiest laugh but people who witnessed it found it hysterical. Not only did she ever cry with laughter but it made her hiccup if she laughed too hard.

She walked back to The House with him, actually enjoying the walk. It felt good to her to walk the roads of Seattle again even just for a moment. She didn't miss the salty sea air though.

"And since when is that a new thing?" John smirked, barely noticing the pain in his arm. Compared to many other injuries he had had, it barely ranked. He walked up and into the House, the door opening automatically.

He turned to Kay "Are there any other places you want to visist so can pretend you are not actually you? Or back to London?"

"never said it was a new thing" she smirked back. Her thump was never meant to hurt him, she was all just her mucking around. She walked into The House with him when he asked if she wanted to go anywhere else.

Kay gave it a thought. The idea of pretending she wasn't what she was for that bit longer was tempting but she didn't have a clue where she'd go. "Wouldn't know where to go to be honest with you...so I guess it's back to London to reality. Unless you have any better ideas?" She replied to him.

He thought for a bit, sure, The House could take them anywhere. But at that moment in time he really couldn't think of anywhere worth going. The other places in the world were either full of his enemies, a country he didn't speak the language of (which was a lot of them), full of Justice League members or in a time zone that meant it would be the middle of the night.

"Nope, they're all shit. So London or limbo are the only viable choices." The House had already shifted into limbo, which was a sort of swirling void, empty for the most aprt, but there was the occassional object that had got sucked in and was unable to escape.

"Then I guess it's back London for us" she replied once he spoke after his moment of thought. Their mini almost break away from reality was nice whilst it lasted, even if it did consist lying through their teeth about her identity.

She then remembered about Chas and having read all that information on her last night. Kay wondered if they got back if Chas would be willing to share yet. "Guess we could find out if Chas is willing to spill what he read yet" she remarked.

"He'll probabaly keep us waiting and hang it over our heads for a while, just to see how we'll react. Typical Chas style. But he'll eventually tell us, albeit not all the information in one go. He'll probably pull the whole 'I can't tell you, bbecase it is realted to the future' thing" John replied, imitating Chas almost perfectly.

The House rematerialised in London, by then it was evening, they'd spent over a day and a half travelling around. Time in The House passed differently, so when they had been asleep far more time had passed in the physical world than they had expected. And just to make things more complicated the time variations changed. Sometimes days in The House passed faster than real days, other times they passed slower.

Kay sighed. She HATED being made to wait but she knew times like this, she had to deal with it. Though she was impressed by John's impression of Chas.

When they saw it was evening she was surprised. She remembered Elliott saying how time passed differently in The House, but the amount of time that had passed did shock her. They were gone for a lot longer than she anticipated and a tiny thought of 'i wonder if the others were wondering where they went' crossed her mind. She of course, didn't know Jay had previously put a tracker on John's bike.

Now they were back in London she was actually looking forward going back to John's apartment. Despite practically making it her own home, she still saw herself as a guest.

Once the two of them had mounted the bikes and got off the grounds, John dismissed The House back into limbo, until it was needed again. He turned to Kay with a grin "c'mon, let's go home." He doubted the others had missed them too much. Weeeell they might have missed Kay, the other seemed to have taking a liking to her too.

As soon as the bike left The House, the tracker was remotly activated. Kay's bike was already equiped with trackers, it was the spare from the base after all. It was a safety policy to install trackers on all bikes and in the suits too.

She mounted her bike and looked at John when he turned to her. She smiled warmly as it really did warm her heart when he said what he did, the way he did. It made her wonder if he really thought his home was hers also. Nodding one simple nod, she replied "yeah, let's go home."

She rode back to the apartment beside him for that hour and a bit journey. The whole journey back felt different to her for some reason. Maybe it was because it was hinted his home was officially hers, maybe it was because of last night's development with John, or maybe it was simply none of those things and she was just in a good mood.

John felt happy for the first time in a very long time. He had no doubt that Kay was the cause for it. But he was all to aware of the fact that when things went well for him, it usually meant that something completly awful was just coming around the corner. But he shoved those thoughts aside and concentrated on not crashing the bike.

Drawing up outside the apartment building he noticed that Elliott's bike was already there. As was the silver and blue bike that he recognised as Jay's. He smirked wondering if the same thing that had happened to Elliott and Jay, that had happened to himself and Kay. "well, wouldya look at that." He said, gesturing at Jay's bike. "seems like Elliott's got company."

Kay could have sworn she could sense his happiness. She put it down to their bond mark of what she was sending and feeling was indeed his happiness bas well as her own.

She pulled up next to John when they reached the apartment and looked over at where he was gesturing. Looking at Elliott's and Jay's bikes she smirked. "So it does. Chances on them actually having admitted to each other how they feel about each other? What you think? High or low?" She replied, getting off her bike and sweeping her hand up and through her hair, making it sweep up and over to one side. A swoop framing her face perfectly.

That was a tough question and he ended musing out loud about it. "Well she could beat seventeen shades of shite out of him if she wanted to. I don't think a verbal confession would work for either of them, they don't seem to be very good at expressing feelings through words. So one of them would have to work up the guts to slam the other against a wall and kiss them senseless in order to get the message across. Or something impulsive like that." He said, gesturing in a circular motion to convey the 'or something' part.

"And I'm guessing the main thing holding Elliott back is the fear that if he does make a move, he'll get beaten up. Jay's reasons, I'm not so sure of. She's a tough one to crack. But factoring in the whole death card thing, maybe that is the push one of them needs to make a move. It's at 60/40 for me, sixty being they will. What do you think?"

Kay listened to what he said whilst resting her arm on his shoulder. He made very valid points and she definitely could imagine it having to go that sort of direction.

"Jay is a tough one to crack, I agree with you on that one. Adding your points and what we've seen of them both so far together? I'd hazard a guess Jay would take the jump to make the first move. They've been closer in the last 24 hours than we've witnessed before, so I'm totally expecting to see they've got together and I fully intend to say 'Finally' at them before they possibly think or say the same about us." She replied in depth with a smirk.

John nodded, so they were both on the same page opinions wise. "I'd agree with you about Jay most likely making the first move. And I'll join you on teasing the hell out him, regardless of what happened." He smirked, knowing that whether they had confessed or not, he could get a reaction out of Elliott either way. He turned towards the apartment building. "Let's go see then"

It didn't take long to reach the fourth floor apartment John called home. He opened the door not quite sure what to expect to see. "Oh shit" He muttered to himself, as he took in the scene in the living room.

Elliott and Jay were having a full on row, eyes blazing, both very much looking like they wanted to beat the other into a pulp. The fury was rolling off them in waves. They were switching between English and two alien languages. But it was Jay who was the angrier of the two, the cause of the argument, it seeming to be something Elliott had done. It was clear to John, that approaching either of them would result in that person being injured. "If I were you I wouldn't get between them at this moment in time" He said to Kay

Kay followed John up to the forth floor. She was prepared to join him in teasing the living hell out of both Elliott and Jay. She was nowhere near expecting the spectacle they actually walked in on.

Hearing them all but scream at each other wasn't a sight she particularly wanted or liked seeing. So when John said about not getting between them she had no qualms in doing as he said. "Don't need to tell me twice" she replied. "Maybe we should divert to another room or far enough away for no risk of a crossfire accident" she suggested, slightly quieter than her first response.

Looking at Jay, John could see now that she was dangerous. The component had always been there. Her staff fighting skills, her bike riding skills, the way she flipped the butterfly knife without even giving any thought to it, just letting the blades whirl around, the way she walked with barely a sound, her clinical attitude without when faced with somebody clearly dying. She was a killer, it was damn obvious now. The beauty of hindsight he supposed.

Whatever Elliott said next was the final straw for Jay. Her voice turned venomous, even with the language barrier that much was obvious. Her fist clenched and before Elliott had any time to react, she punched him square in the face. Hard. Hard enough for him to fly backwards, cartoon style. He landed on his back, skidded backwards and came to a rest sprawled on the carpet, one hand already reaching to feel what damage she had done. After hissing one final remark at his sprawled figure, she stormed away, right past John and Kay and in the direction of the stairs.

Kay watched on before they could even get out of the way of the two of them. Like John, she didn't need to know the language to understand whatever Elliott said tipped her over the edge. She was a loose canon and those types of people were the most dangerous of them all in Kay's mind.

When Jay got the punch in she couldn't help but wince at Elliott's misfortune of being on the receiving end. She quickly stepped back to let Jay storm passed and out the apartment. She would have asked if he was alright if it was anyone else, but she didn't want to risk him snapping at her. So instead, she headed to the kitchen, pulled out a bag of ice, walked back to him and handed it to him squatting down. "Here...it'll help" she said. She remembered about his healing factors but sometimes even a bag of frozen peas or ice to a punch can help the fastest of healers. If nothing else the coldness is calming. Kay really did seem to be too good sometimes. She knew being with John, meant Elliott was in her life too. And she'd do everything to show Elliott she's prepared to look out for him just like John does.

Even though it had been his adoptive kid on the receiving end, John couldn't deny that it was a damn impressive punch. But now wasn't the time or place for mentioning that. So while Kay got the ice (the one thing that he knew he had in the house with 100% certainty) he walked over and crouched beside Elliott, taking him by the chin, looking to see exactly how much damage had been done.

The skin around his left eye was already beginning to swell, his lip was split (a consequence of the fall and not the punch directly.) But the thing most wounded was Elliott's pride. John could tell that whatever he had said that made Jay snap, he hadn't meant it and was now overwhelmed by shame. He took the ice in silence, and then with a sigh went and sat on the couch with it. This wasn't the time for speaking, so John just went over, sat down next to Elliott and put an arm around him. Elliott slumped against John, finding relief and comfort in this gesture of affection from John.

Kay let John check him over before standing up and going to the couch with them. She sat on Elliott's other side but let John be a father and comfort his son. The only thing she did was rub Elliott's arm in a comforting manner.

This was a second time where Kay came over with protective feelings towards Elliott. The first being when he had those nightmares. She then shuffled ever so slightly so she had both her boys in her touch. One hand comforting Elliott and the other on John's arm that was round Elliott. She knew no words needed to be spoken right now, but she could tell Elliott needed all the comfort he could get.

"You're so much like your own mother Kay" Fee remarked in her thoughts and Kay just acknowledged her words but ignored her.

There was no need for words at first. The silence spoke volumes. Slowly the swelling began to die down and the mother of all black eyes began to form. The bruises were mottled black, brown, green and purple. Gingerly Elliott removed the ice bag and felt the skin around his eye, wincing slightly at the tenderness. "you're going to have one hell of a black eye for at least the next week, more than likely two." John told him, taking in the full extent of the black eye.

"Yeah, I know, she can throw one hell of a punch." There might have been admiration in his voice, or it might have been bitterness. "There's probabaly some parenting law that says I shouldn't ask this, but I'm not that great of a rule follower, so I'm going to ask anyway. What in the universe did you do that pissed her off enough to punch you?" Elliott looked down at his feet, before replying. "I commited identity theft and broke into the Justice League Watchtower."

Kay also looked at the extent of Elliott's black eye, it really was one hell of a black eye. She was more glad she gave him ice bag now. John was right, that black eye wasn't going to go away easily, even on him. Kay put Elliott's tone of reply as a little bit of both admiration and bitterness.

She was glad that John spoke up and asked the question first because she was dying to know but she felt it wasn't her place...like with many things between them. She was surprised by Elliott's answer though. She knew he clearly got up to stupid shit but identity theft on the justice League to gain access to the watch tower?! She wasn't expecting that for a second. "Seriously?" She couldn't help but react. "Ell.." she sighed.

John wasn't expecting that either. The appropraite reaction would have been to give out and yell about how reckless/stupid/borderline crazy it was to do something like that. But it was clear that Elliott was upset and was already beating himself up enough without John adding to it. "Yeah, I know" he muttered in response to Kay.

"First of all, that is ridiculously ballsy, I cannot deny that. And damn impressive that you got both in and out unnoticed." He shouldn't be so proud of Elliott for breaking goodness knows how many laws and pissing off a whole bunch of power beings who held themselves above all and took justice in their own hands. But it clear that he was. "Whose identity?" was the second question, but he had the feeling he already knew.

"Yours"

If Kay hadn't already given Elliott a massive lecture and black eye she would have lectured him herself but she could tell he already was feeling bad over his actions. Though had to agree it was impressive all things considered, she could have hit John for opening praising him for such a stupid move... She didn't however.

Then came the second answer that made Kay go into partial disbelief. "Of course you did" she thought to herself. She rubbed Elliott's arm comfortingly again, seriously feeling like his damn mother majorly over this, in the sense of 'if you hadn't already been beaten I'd be screaming at you for being so reckless'. It was all because she cared for him.

John lost it at that and started laughing like an idiot. He could see how Elliott had done it and how easy it would have been for him to pull it off. John had Watchtower clearance, but he was there so sporadically that nobody would pay much attention to him arriving for no real reason. Add to that the fact that he wasn't that well known and was usually always angry or cashing in a favour when visiting, none of the real members would have wanted to go near him.

The laughter spread to Elliott, who fell against John laughing. Ne was partially laughing because it was hilarious, and partially because he was nervous and scared about what John would say. Eventually John regained his composure "Bloody hells that is brilliant" he smirked "though I will be giving you a right bollocking tomorrow." he added his tone more serious. "yeah I know." Elliott's tone was serious too, he knew the consequences. Reaching into his pocket he pulled out John's Justice League ID card. John was scowling at the camera in the picture. "you might want this back."
