Fandom Into the fire (1x1 MzHyde/Gallifrog)

"In other words, there is no turning back now" he remarked, watching as the pattern appeared and disappeared back under his skin again. It didn't hurt a lot, but ot was enough for him to grit his teeth slightly. He ran his hand over his wrists, as if trying to see if there was some kind of permanent marking.

He thought back to the cards Jay had turned The Bound. That was him all right. He was hoping he wouldn't regret it, but with his life, he could never he sure.

Kay watched as just like Fee said, it did indeed happen to John. She knew he was right, there was no way to backtrack now. She hoped this didn't put a negative end to what was a good night between them. They both felt it, that they were meant and made for each other earlier and she hoped this didn't change his earlier feelings.

She reached across with the hand that her bond sigil appeared on and grabbed onto his hand that his appeared on and linked their fingers. "I think we both knew this was all real before this discover though." She commented.

"I definitly did." he replied, smiling slightly, it was clear that he was genuinely happy and his face had lost some of it's hauhted qualities. "Well, not at the start, kind of in the middle and very much so at the end." He added, partially unnecessarily. He wraped his other arm around her, holding her close.

She looked at him when he smile with his reply. That actually feel relieved that he wouldn't just make her leave and walk out her life so to speak. Not that she thought their bond would allow it. Yet she knew anything was possible with John. Seeing his usual haunted look fade made her smile back.

When he added the extra she chuckled, "same here. Now it all makes sense" she replied, as she all but nuzzled into him. Him saving her that very first night they met was now considered the best thing to have had happened to her.

Despite the fact that he was on a kitchen countertop in a mystical house that travelled through space, John managed to fall asleep easier. Maybe it was a side effect of having Kay near him. And there were no nightmares (or dreams of any kind) either.

---------------------------------
He woke the next morning, at first thinking everything had been a dream. But then he looked around at The House of mysteries kitchen and Kay beside him on the countertop and he knew it hadn't been a dream. It had actually happened.

Like John, she fell asleep beside him with no dreams of her past, her lineage's past or anything similar. She slept soundly and if she was awake she'd definifely put it down to being next to John.

The next morning she woke after he did with a little sigh of contentment and smile on her face when she found she was still in his arms. "Morning" she said, adjusting her head so she could look up at him.

"Morning" he smiled, looking back at her. At some point he knew he'd have to leave The House and return to the real world, but for now he was happt to stay where he was. Even if that did so happen to be a kitchen countertop.

"There's no real food in the house, so if you want something besides crisps, microwave popcorn and frozen peas, then we are going to actually havevto get up and go somewhere."

She really didn't want to move but the reality of sleeping on a kitchen countertop wasn't exactly the most comfortable place on earth. When he said about no food in the House of Mystery she knew that was a good excuse to force herself to get up.

Giving him a peck on his cheek she somehow peeled herself out of his grip as she sat up and swung her legs off the end of the countertop, her back facing John. She stretched her arms up as she yawned, waking up a bit more. Her hair cascading down in a natural wave.

"Guess we should get up and go somewhere then" she spoke, looking at him over her shoulder.

John stretched and rubbed the back of his shoulders, before sliding off the countertop and starting to pull his clothes back on. They looked just as crumpled as usual, and had anybody not known the clothes had spent the night on the floor they would have thought John looked exactly the same as usual.

"I guess we should. Any ideas?"

Kay got dressed again in her clothes from the day before and tied her hair up in a messy ponytail. Pulling her boots on she tried to think of somewhere they could go. They were still out in a field as far as she was aware and didnt really know the surrounding area.

"Hmm...well I don't know this area if there's anything nearby. I only know London really. And Seattle and that's definitely no help" she laughed.

"It is basically just field out there, and it's an hour or so to actually get to London." He the smirked slightly. "Buuuut, The House does travel in space you know, so location isn't exactly an issue." He told her.

He relaced his shoes, which were beginning to develop a hole in the right toe cap. He'd have to fix that later.

She leaned against the counter which may or may not have been a wise decision all things considering. She found his smirk contagious as everytime he did, she couldn't not smile back. She had forgotten that little fact about The House.

"To be fair in my defense I forgot that little detail. Last night was..distracting to say the least. In a good way" she smirked back at him. "Well I know of two places. One in London that I used to go to to lay low and one in Seattle where I used to live before coming back to the UK." She explained. "So...pick and I'll guide you to whichever one" she said to him.

"Next you'll be saying you forgot that this place was bigger on the inside and can change layout and outer size at will." He smirked at her, but there was no malice intended in it. "I say Seattle, there are less people who want me dead there, plus it's been a while since I've been in the states on non 'work' related stuff"

He made airquotes around the word 'work.'

Kay laughed at his reaction to her forgetting about The House teleportation perk. She was ready to say something back when he made the decision of Seattle. So she nodded, "then back to my old stomping grounds it is" she smiled.

She did wonder if Sam ever went back there or stayed in London as she should have technically finished studying by now. She still remembers all the talks of being home sick. Shaking those memories from her mind she came back to the here and now mentally.

The House was already moving through limbo, heading to the general area of Seattle. Without an exact location it would materialise somewhere outside of the city and it would be up to Kay and John to navigate their way to wherever they were actually going. "so where exactly are we going?" John asked. "I need a rough area to land The House."

"you wanna be going in the area of lower town, south side, outside of the bay area. There's a field-esque area you can land The House that's only five minutes away from the place I got in mind." She explained.

She knew when they got there they'd have to walk down the bay to get to the cafe she was thinking of. It was nearby her old home. It was a risk to go there she thought as a lot of people did know her but she hoped with her beanie hat and keeping her head low she would get away with not seeing anyone.

John nodded and commanded The House. There was no sigh that they had actually been moving through limbo at all, the house was an extremly smooth ride. Leaving the kitchen, John found that The House had helpfully brought the bikes inside and got rid of the outer garden.

"We're here." He told Kay as he opened the door and walked out.

She slung her jacket on quickly following him out the door. The moment she saw the area all memories she had of the place came flooding back. "Home sweet home" she muttered, there was equal amount of fondness and sadness in her voice. She had missed Seattle greatly but it brought her sadness because it made her realise what good times she left behind.

"It's a five minute walk so we won't need the bikes." She told him, stepping forward, the route coming back to her like it was only yesterday she was last here. She started walking toward the main road zipping her biker jacket up even though it was too big and wouldn't actually do much to keep her warm. The salty fresh air hit her in the face.

John caught the sadness in her voice, but didn't comment. It wasn't his place to and he didn't want to dislodge any bad memories that might might mar the memories of last night.

John followed her, his coat flapping behind him. His took in the salt in the air, not minding the cold. He took in the scenery around him, wondering where exactly Kay was taking.

Half way down the road she turned left at the corner to a quiet street. Most people didn't think twice when they walked up here as it was just a connecting street to get to the nearest bus stand to head upwards towards midtown.

"It's just up here passed the family run book store. Only locals really know about the place" she told him, walking passed the book store and arriving at the café. Like AJ's it wasn't much to look at it but it was bright and welcoming. It didn't have walls you could scribble on, but it had its charm. Walking in she glanced around to see if there was anyone she knew in and sighed with relief when she didn't spot anyone. She lead John to a booth at the back that was always her favourite table to sit at. There was still the scored in mark her and Sam made when they were kids in the corner of the table.

"Ah, but that's the best kind of place to eat." If you wanted the good food it was always best to go where the regular locals went, not the overpriced places advertsised in the guidebook. John knew that well and he trusted that Kay knew what she was talking about.

John followed Kay to the bootg, he had a niggling suspiscion that this was her favourite spot. He ran his hand over the burn mark and smirked, for some reason it amused him. "so what would you recommend?"

As she sat down she watched as he ran his fingers over the mark her and Sam made. "We were such shits as kids, I'm surprised they haven't replaced the table." She remarked to his clear amusement.

"As for recommendations? You can't go wrong with anything here but I'd always order the waffles with scrambled eggs here. Best in Seattle and I'm not biased because of my childhood ties to the place" she grinned. "But yeah, you can't go wrong with anything from the menu" she explained, just as a waitress walked over to automatically fill their mugs up with coffee. "What can I get you both?" She asked, not initially recognising Kay.

"Who wasn't? Meself and Chas drove everybody up the walls doin' shit we weren't supposed to. Even from day one" He smiled at the memories of him and Chas being idiots, well him being the complete eejit and Chas trying to stop him. John wasn't in the state of mind to give any proper thought to ordering food. As long as it was warm and tasted good, he'd be happy. When the waitress came over he simply selected the first thing he saw on the menu, which happened to be the waffles.

Kay smiled when he replied about him and Chas as kids. Looked up at the waitress and also ordered the waffles. Making note, the waitress walked away leaving them to it once more.

"The burn mark there came about because Sam would insist we always had to have this booth. So it was her idea to claim it that way. Luckily for us, we got away with it...just. Sam blamed the owner's son saying he crushed so hard on me he had to claim the booth our booth. They were so mad" she told him, with a smile on her face and a chuckle, remembering the day.

John smiled slightly as she retold the story. He enjoyed hearing other people's stories, even if it was usually for the selfish reason of needing knowledge to blackmail them with or to use against them in some shape or form. He was good at manipulating people, a trait he should be ashamed of, but wasn't. He did what he had to and damn the consequences.

He took a slug of the coffee before replying with. "she sounds like a good mate."
