John had a feeling that he didn't want to be involved in whatever drama was going on with Kay, but he did not really have a choice in the matter. They were bonded, stuck with each other for better or for worse. And this was definitly a time worthy of the 'worse' part

He leaned forwards and put an arm across her, pulling her in towards him slightly. "I'm no psychiatrist, but something is clearly up. I'm probably going to regret asking, but what's wrong?" He asked, his tone slightly gentler than usual.

Kay just let him pull her into him. She lifted her head up when he spoke to her and it felt like he was answering the question she had buzzing round her head this whole time.

"I had the worst night sleep in a long while because my other side wants me to go back home....to my birth home. Woke up to a note I wrote myself in my sleep telling me to go." She told him. She didn't want to drag him into it, but they were bonded and he opened up to her so it was only fair she did the same to him.

"Except I don't want to go for obvious reasons but Fee in my dream kept saying how important it is I go" she added.

Well that made sense. For almost everybody he knew (himself included) home, birth home, was not a place of comfort. He could tell Kay didn't want to go back, but he had a feeling her other half wouldn't take 'no' for an answer. "Unfortunately she seems to know what she is doing when it comes to this sort of stuff" he sighed.

"You could ignore her, I guess, but I doubt she will take no for an answer. And the universe'll drag us there anyway. So you either do it on your own terms and of ypur own will, or you get there kicking and screaming" He probably should have offered more comfort, but that wasn't his style.

She flopped her head on his shoulder. She knew comfort wasn't exactly his style, and she had accepted that a while ago. Though what little comfort he did give her, did help a lot. She listened to what he said and she knew he had a point.

"Then I guess it's the former option. I just have a really bad gut feeling about going back. Don't suppose you'll come with me?" She replied. "The place just got abandoned when we left in Islington. So who knows what state it's going to be in and what it is I have to go back for." she added.

"Probably the wiser choice" he replied "but I'm not exactly the greatest source of good ideas, so I cannot judge." He continued. He knew that Kay needed his support at this moment in time. That wasn't really his strong suit, but he hoped his efforts were showing.

"Course I'll go with. Who knows what'll happen if I don't" he told her, the sincerity in his tone evident.

"you're better at ideas sometimes than you think" she told him truthfully. If it wasn't for his ideas she would never had known to meld her soul to fee's properly, to learn about her kind from the book as just two examples.

She smirked slightly at his response about going with her. "Thanks." She said simply yawning from the lack of decent sleep she had, briefly hugging him tightly. Kissing his cheek, she pulled away reluctantly from him and downed her hot coffee. She was glad she was a phoenix because otherwise that would have burned the hell out of her throat.

"I'm gonna go get dressed" she said to him, standing up and sluggishly walked to her room.

"Eh, no problem, it's not like I really having anything else worth doing today." He replied, returning the hug. At her first remark. just rolled his eyes. Sure he had some good ideas, but the majority of the rest of them were either stupid, dangerous or downright crazy, some being all three at once.

He nodded and turned back to his papers, he already had everythung he needed on him, cigarettes, lighter, keys, dagger, deck of cards and other miscellaneous crap that just kind of took up residence in his pokcet.

She rummaged through what few clothes she still had, making a mental note to seriously go shopping for new stuff. Too much of her stuff was wearing through. Eventually she settled for a black cropped top and her old tartan mini skirt. Pairing it with black stockings and her boots, she pulled on her biker jacket.

As always, she did her signature eyeliner and red lip look and put a brush through her hair, tying it up in a messy ponytail and grabbed her bag before walking out to meet John. "Okay I'm good to go" she said, she wanted this over with.

John looked up at her arrival, his face showed no outward change, but he was impressed at Kay's chocie of outfit. Totally impractical for his line of work, but yet it suited her. He'd have to dig out Sheryl's old mini skirt some day for the laugh, it was probabaly the only item of clothing shorter than Kay's skirt.

He tucked the pages he was working on under the chair "So where exactly are we going?" He asked, depending on the distance they could either bike, get a lift from Chas or take The House.

Her outfit choice was mostly to try and perk herself up a bit. She was bored of her ripped jeans or her wet look leggings m she felt like she had lived in them lately. Sure, it was no way practical but right now she didn't care. She wanted a change for the day.

"Islington. The place is on the outskirts of there, in the more back area where the proper houses are and not the council estates. So what... Half hour from here? Give or take" She replied, taking a guess at the rough distance between his apartment and her old stomping grounds.

He nodded, gauging the distance himself. It wasn't that he didn't trust Kay's judgement, he just wanted to be sure. Her calculations seemed right, and the traffic that way shouldn't be too bad

"Yeah roughly, so I guess we're biking, unless you feel like trying to find Chas and bug him about what he read. Though I have a feeling he might be mysteriously in a no signal zone for the entire day." He added with a smirk as he locked up.

She nodded glad that her guess was about right. She didn't take any offence or the like at John gauging the distance himself.

"Bikes are fine, we can always let Chas know where we're going and if he WANTS to show up he can. The house is on Thornhill Road. It'll be the only abandoned house on the road probably so won't be difficult to find us." She explained as she replied. She didn't know how she would know that but something in her gut just knew.

She followed John out the apartment as she zipped up her biker jacket if they were going to take the bikes. Though the irony of protecting her midriff when she was in a damn mini skirt, did not go amiss to her.

"Nah, he probably has a traker or something on me already" John replied, not realising that there was indeed a tracker on his bike. He had no doubt that there was a tracker somewhere on Kay's bike, Elliott had mentioned that ut was customary for Kane to chip both the bikes and the suits.

John mounted, not bothering with a helmet or even to close up his coat propelry, as per usual. "lead the way."

She nodded when he said about the probability of him having a tracker on him already. She wouldn't be surprised if that the case at all.

Mounting her bike she started the engine, and unlike John she always put on her helmet as she nodded to his lead the way comment. She started riding from John's leading the way, making sure that he was able to keep up and lose her on the way to Islington.

She took as many shortcuts as she could to avoid a lot of the traffic and just as they predicted it took a little over half hour to get there. She pulled up outside the house getting off the bike and taking her helmet off. She took a deep breath before exhaling looking up at the house. Even though it was abandoned it was still showing its white And beige brick walls and blue front door. It had a few steps to get to the front door and even from the outside it was obvious when it was inhabited it was a nice looking place to live in.

She pulled out her old home keys from her bag because for some unknown reason she still had them. She guessed part of her still couldn't part with them. She lead the way up and unlocked the door walking in. It was like it was frozen in time. Considering all things it was still in relatively good condition. Only certain areas were worn down. The staircase was really showing the neglect more than anything.

John kept pace easily enough, following Kay's lead. He made sure to lock his bike up firmly, he wasn't taking any chances. His bike was one of the few things in his life he took proper care of. He'd had it a long while now and took pride in maintaining it. It was the one thing he did. The lock had an enchantment on it, which would would give a serious jolt of electricity to anybody stupid enough to try and screw with his bike.

The house was actually very nice. It would indeed have been very nice when it wasn't abandonned. There must be some reason that meant nobody would consider buying it and doing it up. He couldn't help but compare it to the apartment where he grew up. "this place makes me old house look like even more of a shithole than it already was."

He followed Kay in taking a look around for anything might be out of the ordinary. It was in good nick, considering it was abandonned.

Kay glanced back at him when he remarked on the place. "Mm...it wasn't a bad place to live for 9 years." She replied as he followed her in and took a look around. Her tone of voice was alot quieter than her usual tone, it showing just how much she hated being here.

She walked through to look around on the ground floor, hoping something would stand out to why she had to come back. Her fingers trailed across the walls, memories flashing through her mind. She walked through the living room to the back room and found her mother's piano still there. She walked over to it, her fingertips wiping some dust off the top. It was an old vintage wooden piano, as she stared down at it she remembered the days her mother would teach her songs on it and all those days she'd just sit and watch her play.

"Mom would be heartbroken to see this so dusty and neglected..." She commented.

It was awkward for John to be in Kay's old house. He could see how much it was affecting her. He couldn't imagine what was going through her head and what kind of memroies would be re-awakened by seeing it.

It was evident from everything about her that she was completly at odds with being back. John was lucky, in a way, that he would never have to go through the trauma of returning to his childhood home, because of the simple fact that it was not there any more.

He put a hand on her shoulder, but didn't say anything, he didn't have the words to express what he wanted to say.

Feeling his hand on her shoulder helped her greatly. She definitely couldn't have done this without him, she knew that more than ever right now. With her other hand she placed it on top of his for a moment. "She taught me how to play on this thing. I remember just watching her all wide eyed, swinging my legs because they wouldn't reach the pedals or floor at the time." She told John, but as obvious as it was it was a fond memory for her, it was making her voice want to break.

Looking at it was like watching her memory play out in front of her. She couldn't help but sit down at the piano and danced her fingers over the keys, before she found herself playing a little bit. She still had the skill of playing.

She didn't do it for long because the piano unsurprisingly due to it needing a bit of tuning. It was moments later a crash from upstairs snapped her out of her thoughts.

John let her talk, taking it all in. It sounded like for the most part, her childhood was normal enough. Of course he was unconsciously comparing her memories to his. He probably shouldn't be but he did so anyway. He was slightly jealous that she had memories of her mother, but that was a whole other can of worms he didn't fddl like opening.

Her playing impressed him, he had no idea that she possessed the talent, even if she was a little rusty. He wheeled around at the sound of the crash from upstairs

John was one of the rare people who now knew she even played. Sam being the other person. Just like most things in her life she kept secret. Hearing the crash from upstairs she quickly stood up.

Her breathing hitched ever so slightly. "What the hell... No one should be in here" she spoke up. She lead the way up the stairs, being careful incase they weren't stable in any place. The first room to the right would have been her folks room, then it was the bathroom, the spare room and her childhood room right at the very end of the hall. She decided to check the first room at the top of the stairs. Shakily she opened the door, stepping inside.

John followed her up the stairs. Had he been here alone he would have bolted straight up with no regard for either the condition of the worn out stairs or his own personal safety. He would have most likely made it up too. But since it was Kay's house he decided against it.

He didn't say anything, just looking around and following her in, bracing himself for whatever may or may not be in there.

The moment she walked into the room, memories of her folks came flooding back. Everything looked like it did when she left. Like her whole family just went out for the day and forgot to come home. Nothing was out of place which she found just downright strange for some reason.

Looking around she tried to ignore the sight of the photos on the walls of her mom and dad. She had to squint her eyes shut a couple of times to stop herself from crying and coming across as weak in front of John... Something she had begun to worry about looking like in front of him. She didn't want him thinking of her a weak or a damsel in distress. She hated that trope so much.

She headed to the en suite bathroom when she stopped dead in her tracks at the doorway, going pale. Her father stepped forward looking almost animalistic. She went to step back but he grabbed her. "Thought you'd never come home" he said, stepping forward to see John.

John looked around the room. It looked too perfect in his opinion, as if everybody had just upped and left. A feeling which was confirmed by the hairs on his arms rising beneath his coat sleeves. Something was just wrong with the room, but he didn't known what it was just yet.

He stopped in his tracks at the sound of a voice. Turning around he saw the man who had grabbed hold of Kay. He didn't need Kay to tell him who that was. The pictures in the room had already told him. Just looking at him sent creeps up his skin, which he didn't show outwardly. Outwards he looked his usual arrogant, slightly pissed off self as he gave the man a scathing look.

Almost instinctively he wrenched the mans hands away from Kay.

This would be the second time John would see the sheer terrified expression on Kay's face. There was definitely something even more frightening about her dad than she last remembered.

She had never been so thankful when John pulled his hands off her, giving her the chance to get free and stepping behind John. "What are you doing here?" She asked her dad. She couldn't even bring herself to call him that. "Word on the street is you were back, I came back for you" he replied, but it wasn't a loving response.

"Come back for me?! You walked out on me!" She all but spat. "A friend of mine wants to meet you Kay" the way he said 'friend' it was clear to her, he didn't mean a normal human friend.

In the history of family reunions this had to be up there as one of the worst he'd ever been present at. And that was saying saying a lot. He had already made the connection that Kay's fthaer wasn't talking about a human friend, and more than likely wasn't even fully human himself any more. He was glad that Kay was behind him, when the inevitable fight broke out, she'd at least have some form of head start.

He hadn't said anything up until that point, Kay seemed to have that part covered. But he was already mentally readying himself and figuring out his next moves.
