Fandom Into the fire (1x1 MzHyde/Gallifrog)

Kay's breathing was fast and heavy. She was desperately trying to not panic. She had only just learned to move on from her last kidnapping, and now here she was dealing with what was supposed to be her father who walked out on her at age 9.

"There is no way I'm meeting anyone you know...I wish I wasn't even seeing you." She replied. Her heart was thumping hard in her chest. He father turned to John, "guess you're the new one she's manipulating to protecting her. Or are you just her latest shag?" He asked, a wicked grin on his face. None of what he said was in the slightest bit true, he just really wanted to get under their skins.

John just raised a single eyebrow and looked completly and utterly unimpressed. The insult had simply bounced off his skin, it was just another variation of one he had heard many times before. He honestly could not care in the slightest what this douche thought about him. If he wanted to get under his skin, he would have to try a hell of a lot harder.

"Really? Cheap shots and low blows is all you got? Clearly she got none of her traits from you." He drawled lazily as if talking with deranged parents was something he did on a regular basis. At the same time he pulled out a cigarette and lit it.

Kay had a feeling what he said wouldn't affect John in the slightest. It was a cheap shot just like John replied with. Not to mention it was utterly cliché she thought. She did appreciate though him saying what he did about her.

Her dad scoffed, "should have guessed it'd take more than insulting you to piss you off" he began. Kay was dreading what he'd come out with next. "If you are shagging her I wouldn't blame you, she always was a temptress to men... Myself included. When I told her she was so much like her mother, I meant it in many MANY ways" he sneered. It didn't take much for Kay to guess what he was meaning, and it made her feel sick.

John just raised the other eyebrow. Sure he was fuming on the inside and really wanted to punch this guy through a wall or six, but getting pissed angry would achieve absaloutly nothing, except giving Kay's father the upper hand. So resisting the urge to strangle him John simply exhaled a plume of smoke slowly into his face in a cold, calm and collected manner. He then replaced the cigarette in his mouth without a care in the world.

"Oh mate, you are going to have to try far, far harder than that to piss me off. I'm not shagging her, and I bet fifty quid you can't tell me why."

(Last post)

Even though she was behind him, she could just feel the anger in him despite the calm look he was giving off. "It's the bond Kay...that's how your sensing his emotions he's not showing" Fee explained. Kay had no idea of it was the same for John and her feelings or not, Fee wouldn't say.

Her father was getting frustrated and visibly so. "Shame... she was an easy lay then, bet she's better now" he commented with a smirk. Upon hearing that, Kay really did feel like she going to throw up and for her own sanity she had to leave the room, to which her father laughed. She couldn't care less how John reacted to what was just said at this point. If she wasn't feeling sick to her stomach she would have burned her father there and then herself.

As she waited outside the room to compose herself, she felt like something was drawing her to the spare room. She debated on going alone or just holding back.

Ye God's was this guy starting to grate on his nerves. He was dispensing yet more cheap shots in the hope that they would anger John. But he was so clearly lying out of his arse. John regarded the man with a look and blew out another noxious cloud of smoke into his face. This particular cigarette was extremely potent and more akin to a chemical weapon than something to recreational destroy his lungs with. It was a toxic mix, but especially so when blown in other people's faces.

He just gave a roll of his eyes and walked out of the room, his parting words being. "Oh you have no idea what is coming" He gave Kay a look as he walked out that said something along the lines of don't worry, I want to murder him too.

Her father started to cough from the amount of smoke John was now blowing in his face. He glared every time it was blown into his face. Watching him leave the room behind Kay, he smirked. "Interesting..." he thought to himself. "I may not know but neither do you!" He called out, smirking.

Kay looked up when John left the room. His look said eveything to her, she just nodded in acknowledgement. She really hoped her father was lying about what he was implying because she doesn't recall any of that happening. Though it was entirely possible if it was true that Fee helped her forget. "As much as I wanna leave I was told to be here for a reason. I need to find that reason" she told John, before heading to the spare room but she hesitated about walking in due to what just happened in her folks old room.

"You sure that's a good idea daughter?" Her father was in the doorway of the room he was in, watching in a manner that mimicked a predator watching its prey. The way he said daughter also had a tone of not fully human anymore.

"Keep telling yourself that mate". John said, not even bothering to expend the energy to turn back around. There was a smirk in voice and he had the tone of somebody who really did know something that nobody else did.

"And who made you the world authority on what is or isn't a good idea?"John said with a roll of his eyes. "Last time I checked you seemed to be a feral [he inserted an insult from Elliott's language that roughly translated to primitive amoeba] knocking around in an empty house, taking cheap shots at people you've only just met and generally being an all round cuntflap." He said this all in a tone that betrayed none of what was actually going on his head, just filled with scorn and accompanied by look of slight disgust.

Kay tried to block out everything her father was saying, she needed to ignore it. With John replying also, she didnt see any point in replying. She was afraid if she did at this point, she'd lose herself and do something she may not live with afterwards. "For someone not supposedly fucking my half breed piece of shit daughter, you're awfully protective.... John" he spat, now deciding to give away he's more than just Kay's dear old dad now. Eyes flashing black.

She had her suspicions confirmed the moment he called out John's name. His words cut deep though to her. Her hand shaking as she fought to not storm up to him and punch him square the face. Choosing to ignore her temptation, she walked into the spare room. Whatever she needed, was definitely drawing her into this room. "Whatever it is, it's in here" she commented. "I can feel it".

So Kay's father knew wno he was. Not that surprising, he was very distinctive. And it was baundantly clear that just as he'd suspected, tbis man was not human and probabaly hadn't been for a long time now.

"So you know my name. Big fucking deal" This was accompanied by slow clapping and ash dispersed from the cigarette being conveniently dumped all on and in the father's direction "literally the entirety of the Downworld, Celestia and a good chunk of the gang states knows who I am, so if you were expecting me to be reduced into some kind of state by that, then you are clearly wrong or even more stupid than you look."

He let Kay go ahead into the room, leaning himself in the doorway and taking another drag.

Her father knew deep down it wouldn't surprise John. He was just enough of an petty asshole to just point it out for the sake of it. He just smirked, "wasn't expecting anything of the sort." He retorted. "Word of advice though, you might want to go in after her...there's something in there" he said, not out of care but out of a smug attitude.

Kay looked around before following whatever it was leading her to a back corner under the bed. "Of course it is... This is cliche crap" she thought to herself, getting down onto the floor. Looking underneath she found a box addressed to her in her mother's handwriting. Pulling it out, she went to get up when she sensed something behind her. She span round quickly but not quick enough, as she felt something hit her side hard.

Looking down before back up again, she saw another demon appear chuckling. A blade in her side. "Fuck..." She said, dropping down onto the bed.

Of course the asshole was right. There was a demon who was repeating what was now becomming a pattern of having Kay get stabbed by a bladed weapon. He flicked out his lighter and set his hands alight with a flame that was unmistakably celestial. He'd covered his hands in the powder earlier while he smoked, as a precaution.

He may have overdone it slightly, as for the first few moments it blazed outwards scorching the door frame around him and nailing Kay's father in the face. Then he entered the room, the demon getting both a wallop of celestial fire and John's shoe to his face.

(I have an idea for how to get rid of the father, but it is part of a longer arc I'm debating working in.)

(go for it!)

Kay gritted her teeth from the seering pain she was feeling. She didn't know whether to pull the blade out or leave it in for now. She also wished she could stop getting stabbed. She looked up when John set his hand alight with the celestial flame. Kay was thankful in this moment that she couldn't be harmed by fire, but she did still shield her eyes when he did so.

Her breathing was ragged as she smirked when John went for the demon. She watched as the demon stumbled backwards from John's attacks before checking herself over. Hands shaking, she fought to stay conscious.

The demons knew celestial flame all too well. Unlike hellfire, it could and would seriously damage them. It would also hurt John leaving some superficial burns, but he'd rather that then be demon fodder. John used that to his advantage, setting them alight as soon as the opportunity presnted itself. There was also a certain amount of brutal kicking, he was wearing his motorcycle boots for once.

Suddenly the sound of shotgun firing cut through the air. The shot was plasma and cut right through Kay's father. A figure had appereaed at the end of the corridor, brandishing a shotgun, that was clearly not off the shelves. It had shafts of purple light running down the barrel and was light silver. In a swift movement they ejected, reloaded stepped forwards and fired again.

She was thankful for John coming to her rescue...again but she also hated the fact the world was determined to throw her into the damsel in distress situation, and it would have been very clear on her face that she hated that trope.

She watched as the celestial flame and his kicks just damaged the demon like nothing she had seen before. Then came the loud shot from a shotgun which made her look across to the hallway to see who had joined them, but she couldn't figure it out initially. She listened as her father screamed as he received the shot that she heard. "Good riddance asshole" she thought to herself, really hoping she wouldn't have to see him ever again.

Kay tugged on the blade after looking back down, deciding it needed to come.out so she could heal herself, but it was really jammed in and the tug made her exclaim a really loud 'fucking hell!'

The figure with the shotgun kept firing and advancing fowards, until they were certain that Kay's father was next to totally vapourised. They were dressed in a black suit with gold detailing. A hood covered their head and while a white mask covered their face.

They looked at John and the remains of demons around him, before their focus turned to Kay. "You can't yank it out from that position, you'll slit a whole load of vital organs and bleed out. So unless you want to regenerate today then stop that"

She looked up at the figure now they were in view. She couldn't help smirk at their appearance before the pain made her grit her teeth again. When they spoke to her she just looked away.

"Then how about one of you help me out before I fucking pass out?!" It was obvious by this point the pain was making her very snarky. She also didn't know who the hell this person and it made her put her guard up. Just like when she was first snarky toward John when they first met, before she let him in and her guard dropped. It was a coping mechanism for her, she hoped John would recognise her tactic from their first meeting and know she wasn't being snarky with him.

The figure gave Kay a look that despite the mask was managed to be fairly scathing, their eyes narrowing. John instantly recognised what Kay was doing. He ,oved forwards to pull out the knife, but Mask got there first. They put out one arm, stopping him and slung the shotgun onto a back mounted holster with the other. "Relax GJ, I've got this."

They crouched down by Kay, looking her right in the eyes before speaking. The eyes were dark green in colour, with tiny silver and gold flecks. They were hardened from conflict. "I was warned ye'd treat me like shit, but hey nothing new." Grasping the knife handle they yanked it out in one swift movement. "As usual I just sort the crap out" They stepped back, wiping the blood from the blade onto their sleeve, before inspecting the blade.

When the figure narrowed his eyes at her, she returned the look. She didn't trust someone who was hiding behind a mask. She was glad it was John who started to move forward to help her but when the figure all but pushed him out the way she felt suspicious again.

Looking him back in the eye, she noticed what unusual eyes he had. She braced herself and when he pulled the blade out a lot of curse words escaped her mouth that weren't usually flattering for a woman to speak. Yet she never felt self conscious about it because she knew the likes of John wouldn't ever judge her for it.

"I treat anyone I don't know or trust like this. Who the hell are you?" She asked, snark still in her voice, as she looked down at her wound, placing her hand over it and focusing on healing herself.

John was regarding the Mask with narrowed eyes. He wasn't at all pleased about being shoved out of the way. And the fact that Mask seemed to know who they were were already was intriguing. Plus they had adressed him by GJ, which he was totally in the dark as to the meaning of.

"Yeah, who exactly are you? Are we supposed to know who you are? And why GJ?" John asked, not moving out of his defensive posture. Mask tucked the knife away and looked at them. "You might believe me if I told you. But rules are rules. I can't explain yet. And GJ, that's a thing that hasn't happened yet, but it will."

Seeing John not dropping his defensive posture just helped Kay more in justifying her own attitude. She looked between them both when the talking happened and she felt utterly confused by Mask's words. She summarised a guess time travel had possibly something to do with his answer.

Grabbing the box which is what they came for, she gingerly stood up, standing next to John and leaning on him whilst her body fully recovered from having to heal from a deep stab wound. She healed quickly but this one really being quite stubborn.

"Could you sound anymore cliché right now?" She snarkily replied to Mask. "John, I wanna go home" she said to him, finally accepting his apartment as her own properly.

"Actually yes, I could, but hey, nobody gives a shit. I'm off." Mask added back, with snark and steel of their own, then headed towards the door. At the last minute turned they back. "For what happens next...... I'm sorry." Mask's tone was complicated, and her words confirmed in John's mind that Mask was a time traveller. "but if you can't beat the odds, change the game." were their parting words as they descended to the ground floor.

John put his arm around Kay and gently kissed her forehead. "Okay then" his tone betraying the fact that he was slightly unerved by everything.

Kay rolled her eyes when he retorted back with snark. She was glad Mask was leaving until he turned back and said something that unnerved her as well as John. She did not like the sound of his apology. It made her terrified she was going to lose John.

If that was going to be the path, then she'd fight tooth and nail to not let it happen. Hearing the unnerved tone in John's voice confirmed she was bright to be unnerved by Mask's words. Though his action of kissing her forehead did help ever so slightly. "I really hope what's in here was worth this bullshit" she commented, gesturing to the box.

John looked at the box properly for the first time. If it had all been for nothing, he would be pissed. But if Kay had been dreaming/visioning about finding this then hopefully it would be worth it. "I hope so too." he replied, his tone more normal know, but he was just as confused as earlier.

He kept his arm around Kay's shoulders as they headed back downstairs.

She was thankful for him helping her down the stairs to the front door. She was glad to leave but it didn't stop her from glancing over behind them both at the hallway. What once held fond memories now held bad memories.

"Good riddance to this place" she said one final time before looking forward again. "If I never see this place again it won't be long enough" she added. She did wonder how on earth she was going to ride her bike though as she was still healing.
