Kais Wiltchil
Spark Strategist
Kais nodded as Shasta worked through his proposition. Not acting on the information immediately was a good move; investigating the accuracy of the information before making any decisions one way or the other was excellent. He was a little bit surprised to learn that their supposed contact wanted to meet again so soon. It could mean several things, but Kais there were more important things to do than to speculate. If they were going to send people into Tranquility to investigate the guard schedule tonight, that needed to be planned
now.
"Do you intend for one group to deliver and watch the rotation?" A small group was the best choice--as Shasta had already noted. The fewer people, the more likely they would be to slip past unnoticed. It was, strictly speaking, possible to do both, if one of the pair was a sniper and had a good vantage point.
When Shasta suggested Kais go, he nodded without any particular surprise. Though it was unusual for him to be sent into Tranquility, these days, tonight it made sense. This wasn't simply a Pill run, it was an important investigation of something that could, potentially, change how the Spark operated. He felt a flicker of excitement; it was dangerous and possibly even stupid--but he wanted to go anyway. No one was better suited for it than he--the best person to watch a guard rotation was a sniper, and Kais had certain familiarity with good observation points. This was entirely because good observation points coincided with good places to take a shot from, but tonight that benefited them.
"If you want me to go, then I'm there," Kais said. He wouldn't have argued if Shasta had said it would be best for Kais not to go, but he certainly wouldn't pass up the offer. Still, he didn't cherish the thought of working with Nolan. There was always a finite probability of Kais accidentally shooting him in the head. He would have preferred to work with Sola, but...
Several thoughts filtered through his mind. Sola was, objectively, one of their best scouts. Furthermore, if there was anyone he worked best with, it was obviously Sola. This mission required a delicate touch--if things went south, the scouts out there needed to be able to rely on each other. He considered Nolan, Damien, and a handful of others and knew that he would never trust them to not mess anything up, to get them out safely. The only people he trusted for that were Sola and Shasta, and Shasta needed to stay in the Ruins. But Sola was injured, she had done something stupid, and he hated the idea of putting her in that situation. Then again, he had gone into only slightly less dangerous situations with her countless other times. Kais gave a sigh, draining his coffee and setting the mug down in front of him.
"I hate even suggesting this, but I'm going to anyway," Kais paused, meeting Shasta's eye, "Let Sola come with me. If things go wrong--if this turns out to be a trap, the two people who have the highest chance of getting out alive are the two of us. We knew each other's limits, we work well together, we trust each other--I'm the best sniper we have, and no one else works as well with me."
