Fantasy Howl's Flying Castle (Finished! ---Whoo! (*^▽^)/)

- Healer's Tent -
" Fallen Tower "

Rhea, who seemed to be pretending to sleep in front of the others, clutched Renee's shirt, comforted. 'THANK YOU, BIG SIS, BUT IT'S TOO NEAR ETHELLION . . . CAN YOU LIVE IN SHINOBE INSTEAD?'

She then went on to say that so that the manna flow will be balanced, she has to be in Shinobe, here in Paroosia --- "BUT I DON'T WANT TO BE PLANTED HERE" --- or in the three other places where the other manna trees had died. When she was still a star and still only Mithrellas, she had chosen to fall in the land now called Shinobe. It was the most familiar to her, but she was having doubts about being planted there, the only reassurance she has was of how Renee felt about Kenren and Chenglei, which she was feeling too, carefully and curiously looking at her memories of them.

She told her big sister that if it was them taking care of her, maybe it will be okay.

Renee closed her eyes as she felt Rhea looking through her memories and feelings of the two oriental men, sighing quietly. Her wings fluttered in a calm. "Hmm...No, I can't. Not with Sirius needing space to fly and grow without worries...but..." She smiled secretly.

"I have an idea...I know how to make portals. I can make a portal in Shinobe so I can visit you whenever from my home...actually..." Renee opened her eyes again as she looked over at the Prince and his right hand man. Securing Rhea in her arms, the Pendragon older sister walked over to Kenren and Chenglei with a hesitant grin. "Ken-chan? I need to talk with you about something..."

"It's...it's really important..." Renee didn't know if Rhea is okay with revealing her true identidy just yet, but she wants to prepare everything when it's time to replant her in Shinobe.

"Please?"

"Alright." said Kenren, curious. He glanced down at the sleeping Rhea, before telling Chenglei he was going to talk to Renee for a moment, before following her to where they could speak in private. "You're bringing your sister with us?" he said, looking like if this was a secret, it should just be between him and Renee.

Renee nodded with a small grin. "Yea, I am." So they walked out of the tent and she found a quiet space for them to talk that's a bit far from everyone else.

"Okay...Kenren, would...uh...if I told you that there's a chance for the Orients to have their Manna tree back, would you protect him or her?" Renee squeezed Rhea lightly as they listened to the Prince's response.

"Make sure...that no one cuts them down and to let them grow happy?"

Kenren was speechless for a few seconds. One would think he'd be used to this by now, Renee, springing surprises on him. "I would." he said simply. "I think the reason why the Orients keep on fighting, is because we lost our manna tree. You remember the prose Historia wrote, about the manna trees keeping chaos at bay? I think that's one of the reasons why peace is lacking in our lands." then his curiosity got the best of him.

"H-how in the world are you going to bring it back?" the prince listened very intently. if it was something about his dream of uniting his beloved country, he was always all ears for that.

Katsuya Katsuya

Renee grinned a bit, her wings fluttered. Oops...did she sprung another surprise on Kenren? It would seem so. Well...at least she still has it, springing surprises onto people like that.

Before Renee could answer his question, she had to ask him one more question. "How? How will you protect Mithrellas?...I'm sorry for the questions but...I feel like it's absolutely necessary right now." She wanted Rhea to hear what Kenren would do to take care of her. "I'll tell you how after you answer that. Promise."

Mithrellas? Kenren looked at Renee as though he was trying to see right through her. Had it been someone else, he wouldn't believe this, but Renee never lies when it came to these things. Where does this girl hide this information? Even his spies had heard not an inkling of a rumor about another manna tree, and he has shinobi following the kids as secret body guards, they had never given him a report of anything like this.

He looked down at the child in her arms. This sort of thing isn't safe for a little girl to hear . . . she could wake up any moment. Unless she was connected to this somehow? Rhea was in the coils of that evil egg as some sort of hostage. He had thought that if it was the little girl, the kids wouldn't dare attack the egg.

" . . . I don't know." said Kenren. "I'm assuming it's a ring like Luthien and Sasagea, which will be planted on the ground . . . If that's the case, then . . . I'll plant it in Granny Zhou's place, Chenglei's grandmother's backyard. Away from the palace where the people there would surely notice it. It's the only place I know that's happy. It would need protection . . . so, I will put my trusted servants, four of those who came with us in and out of the Storm Wall, as neighbors to watch over it . . . That's all I have for now."

Katsuya Katsuya

Renee gazed back, protective like a real older sister would be when it's about her little siblings' lives. As she listened to the Prince's answer, her grin softened up to a smile of acceptance. "...I like that...I think she would like that too." She cleared her throat as she adjusted Rhea a bit, having the blanket revealing her head should she ever want to really talk with the prince.

"Okay...I'm gonna be visiting Granny Zhou's place then." The Pendragon medic humored. Her wings fluttered in joy. "Ken-chan, this is Rhea Pendragon. My youngest sister...however...she has another name..." She sighed as she walked a bit closer to the Prince to quietly reveal the truth. "Her other name is Mithrellas, the manna tree of the Orients that was planted in Shinobe. She told me that somebody cut her down for fodder and while I understand they were in civil war," Her orange eyes had a sharp glint in them, almost unforgiving. "...I don't like the fact that they didn't let her rest after cutting her branches. It's a wonder that she had to reborn as a human girl just to stay alive and well...That's why I asked you if you would protect her."

"There's another thing I would like to ask of you: can I work as your medic? I know I'm going to live far but I should be able to create portals soon enough. Just with a knock on my door, I'll be there if you ever need me, so...would you let me work under you?" It's something she has been meaning to ask Kenren ever since realizing the possibility of her baby sister being a manna tree and from the looks of it, Renee wants to look after Rhea as well while she grows big and strong.

"I'll even look after Granny Zhou and Rhea at the same time, let you know if there's anything I can do to heal them..."

Lydia's steps paused in their motion as James told her to wait, her brow furrowing somewhat before she gave a single reluctant nod and went back to the bed. Thomas' attention perked as James acknowledged him and he gave a nod in return before looking to Lydia questioningly, "o-oh... um... Thomas... this is James... he's... he's Master Howl's eldest son... a-and..." she paused, her cheeks turning slightly red as she turned a shy gaze on James for a moment, "h-he..." she cleared her throat gently and returned her gaze back to Thomas, giving a happy but embarrassed smile, "he's my boyfriend."

Thomas looked absolutely shocked by the revelation. His eyes widening in almost the same owl like appearance that Lydia always got only his eyes were blue. The initial surprise was only momentary however as the expression morphed into something that could only be described as a mixture of joy and relief accompanied by a sort of scrutiny that James would likely recognize as something he had displayed towards Seifer. He shook his head in slight disbelief and laughed to himself for a moment before laying back down on his cot as his sister was carried nearer the Pendragons.

The expression on her face was adoring as she looked back to James before it turned to one of slight surprise as Kenren helped carry her cot over by her mentor and his family, "thank you... it's not really necessary to fuss..." again that shameful expression crossed her features though it faded as Master How and Mrs. Pendragon began to fuss over her as well, she just smiled and shook her head, "I'm okay... I'm alive so... that's what matters."

While Lydia was excited to be able to talk to her master again about how her magic has progressed substantially since she had last seen him, at the same time she was somewhat hesitant and even uncomfortable about talking about it. Though she did answer any questions that Mast Howl asked her and shared with him how she and Renee had a combined spell that was devastating when it was successful.

As Serena told the tale of their adventures, Lydia's eyes widened slightly, "the Egg?! Did you all... is it gone? Is it over?"

Zer0 Zer0 Katsuya Katsuya

Serena looked over at Lydia with a small frown. "No, not yet. The egg is under custody at the moment." Chenglei said.

"We still have work to do and we all have to be there..." Echo muttered from Johnny's shoulder, her hiding spot. Serena pumped a fist. "We can do it though! We are the seven virtues! We have each other to lean on and I'm sure with our families safe and sound, we can concentrate a lot better."

Kenren's jaw dropped slightly. This family . . . Then his features relaxed, warmth mixing with his surprise at the gesture. "Yes, you can work as my medic. Anyone who cares about Granny and Tsumiki is always welcome." he said, after closing his mouth. "But, Renee, right now . . ." he peered down at the sleeping figure, closely, realizing what this meant to have Rhea --- no Mithrellas live with Granny Zhou. "I need to get Chenglei. Wait here a moment."

He quickly ran into the tent. "Chenglei." he grabbed the swordsman's arm with a very serious look he had only seen the prince wear whenever they were close to hopeless in a fight. He gulped. "How do you feel about . . . " he whispered haltingly pulling him out of the tent, " . . . raising . . . a daughter together?"

James had paused when Lydia started to talk shyly, and looked at her back, smiling. Gently nuzzling her head with his, he grinned at Thomas. "You have the same expression!" he pointed. It was so interesting to find someone else who made the same look he knew only Lydia made. When her brother looked shocked and relieved, he chuckled, looking at Lydia as though he found the reaction questionably silly.

He never got that, why the guys found her undesirable that to be in a relationship is a shock. And as though Lydia needed a boyfriend to be complete. "Don't look so surprised and then laugh." said James to him, though not unkindly.

He looked at Lydia as though stating a nice fact. "I'm the lucky one here." he sniffed her hair affectionately, as he and Kenren transferred her.

When they were all gathered around, Sophie seemed to sense something was up with Lydia, but didn't mention it; Howl was excited with her progress and asked all about her spells. Then when she asked about the evil egg, Johnny said that they hadn't transfigured it yet.

"It's still in the tower." he said, wondering why Echo is so shy, then hugged her. "But it's under control. I think they're just waiting for us." He rubbed her shoulder.

"You should have seen us fight that thing, Lydia!" said Seth, "And all the dragons, and the tower when it came crashing down --- we got cool scars!"

Renee snorted quietly, laughing silently as she saw Kenren's surprised face again. She's never going to forget that face, not when it comes to this prince of stoicism that sometimes rival her brother's. Then she blinked as she watched Kenren ran to the tent and pulled a surprised Chenglei out.

Meanwhile the blonde soldier smiled warmly as he quietly enjoyed the atmosphere until he felt someone pull his arm. He quickly looked over at Kenren's serious face, his brows furrowed in his grim expression. What had caused his prince to make that face now? The war is about to be over with their side as the winners. What-?

Then...as he listened to Kenren's question, Chenglei's face and ears turned red as Echo's hair, surprised. "...uh I-! Um...e-eto..." That got him to spiral down into a mind bottle with marbles scattering around as a kid shakes them. What?! The blonde soldier cleared his throat for a moment, looking back inside the tent to make sure no one would question him leaving with the prince. Then he gazed back at said prince.

"...I...I would be very happy...tuh raise a daughter togetha wit' ya..." Oh goodness, his face has a darker hue of red now. He can practically feel the heat in his cheeks..."W-why? Are ya p-planning to a-adopt a daughter, Ken'en?"

"No, not me, we. And, I don't know . . . I want to know what you think first after you meet her." and he beckoned him to Renee and Rhea, explaining the situation together with Renee. Rhea still seemed to be asleep despite their talking so close to her.

" . . . And so, I suggested taking Mitherellas to Granny. We'd have to ask Granny first, though, and Tsumiki."

Katsuya Katsuya

Chenglei raised an eyebrow, extremely confused as he walked with Kenren to Renee and Rhea. When they explained the whole situation to the blonde soldier, he took a peek at the sleeping little girl. He's completely flabbergasted that this girl is a manna tree; not just any manna tree but the Orients' Manna tree that disappeared long time ago.

Ash purple eyes looked back at Kenren before going back to Rhea...

"..." He pondered for a moment. Then he smiled warmly, nodding in understanding. "I think it's a good idea. I'm sure Granny would love to have a great-grandchild now that Tsumiki is growing up into a lady. I know my sister will love to have a little niece too..." It would be nice, for his grandmother and sister to have a bundle of energy running around the house while Kenren and him look after them. Better for Rhea because the backyard is big enough for several trees to grow since his family preferred to stay away from the capital. Where it's peaceful and quiet for his crazy grandmother to live the rest of her days comfortably.

Then he frowned a bit, worried. "But...Ren, are you sure? She's your little sister...that means we need to ask your parents and brothers as well about keeping her in Granny's care."

Renee looked at her sister with a knowing smile. "My parents are reasonable when given the circumstances. You already know how my brothers are. Just...be ready for the Pendragon family visiting your grandmother from time to time, Chenglei...and inviting her and your sister to watch the sky whales flying overhead with snacks and drinks."

Chenglei chuckled lowly. "Of course. I'll talk to Granny and Tsumiki about the situation and the people that will be visiting." Considering how strict his grandmother is, the blonde knows that she can handle the twins and their pranks very easily.

Kenren kept looking closely at Rhea, who was still sleeping. "Can I hold her?" he said, wondering what it would feel like. He had this expression as though he wanted to know her more and what this means to be taking care of her.

He felt odd. Renee's parents and their whole family, he was sure, loved Rhea, and would probably not like thinking he and Chenglei were replacing them. So was Kenren a guardian? But this girl is the manna tree of the Orients, nothing short of a daughter would be a good enough way to treat her. Was that okay?

His brow furrowed as he thought, listening to Chenglei converse. He wondered if he was as nervous about this as he was, but he seemed to be okay. And he wondered if he just wants to leave it to Granny, but Kenren doesn't want that, he wants to be in her life . . . if she was going to be their . . . daughter. He was confused. Maybe he was a guardian because he was sure Howl and Sophie would never let her go and be someone else's daughter. Maybe he was thinking too much . . .

Katsuya Katsuya

Renee gazed at Kenren as if she was judging him for a moment, her arms tightened around her little sister. Then she smiled hesitantly, understanding what Kenren must be feeling right now. After all...she felt conflicted too when Seifer and her adopted Sirius.

"Sure. Here, you hold her like this..." The Pendragon medic taught the prince on how to hold the little girl, making sure she is secured in his arms. Then she backed off a bit. Chenglei's breathing hitched, a bundle of nerves gathering at the pit of his stomach as he stared at Kenren carrying their possible...daughter. Then he wondered if...if it was possible to care for Rhea themselves instead of dropping her off in his grandmother's place. He wondered if Rhea would want to rule the country as an heir but that couldn't be possible, not when she had to go back into the earth...if she can that is.

"..." Chenglei reached out a hand only to stop close to her small head. Finally gathering his courage (strange that he is actually afraid and nervous about even doing this when he faced dragons in a war and not be as scared), the blonde soldier tenderly caressed her head. Making sure he didn't wake her up as he continued to stare in awe at the tight feeling in his chest. He looked up at Kenren with a very similar expression; of wanting to be in her life.

Renee smiled warmly. "...I'm sure Rhea would love to have two more parents in her life..." Her wings fluttered happily.

Kenren held her just the way Renee wanted him to. "She's heavy." he said, realizing that this was the first time he was holding a little child. Rhea mumbled something and clutched at his clothes in her sleep. The prince became very careful, as he wrapped her in the blanket more warmly in this autumn cold.

He felt something akin to how his people in the Orients made him feel. Needed. And it made him happy.

He looked at Chenglei for a while. He was probably thinking to leave it to Granny, but Kenren doesn't want to dump her there the way Chenglei was dumped there by his mother. Maybe she should be in the palace, but then she will live a caged life because she would be in danger and that's horrible . . . How does he ask Chenglei this . . . he'd love to have him together with him, but it is a big responsibility and it would be unfair to ask Chenglei to share something this big with him in this way if he doesn't want to. How does he ask him this . . .

And they also need to talk to Mr. and Mrs. Pendragon first too.

"Renee, before I make a final decision I need to talk with your parents first, and Rhea too when she wakes up. Chenglei and I need to talk about this too, and granny and Tsumiki as well." he hugged Rhea, then patted her back awkwardly, whispering something to her, before he gave her back to Renee.

He looked back at his love in thought, but couldn't find the words to say what he was thinking. "In any case, I'll think about it tonight, and tell you of our plans tomorrow." said Kenren to Renee.

Katsuya Katsuya

Renee watched with careful eyes, observing the careful care the two men are showing to Rhea. The corner of her lips quirked up, humming quietly. When Kenren returned Rhea back into her arms, the Pendragon sister said, "That's perfect. I'll let my parents know that you wish to speak with them tomorrow."

Chenglei nodded at the decision, agreeing that he needed to think about this first and talk with Kenren tonight.

Once the pair is out of her sights, Renee whispered to Rhea. "So? What do you think, Rhea? Feeling better about Ken-chan and Chenglei?"

Meanwhile the blonde soldier pondered, instinctively following Kenren to anywhere as he stayed deep in thought.

"No, no talking with your parents yet, Renee." said Kenren immediately. "They just reunited with you and all your siblings, I'm not going to talk about one leaving them. I'll send you a message this month, and we'll talk again tomorrow."

The prince and Chenglei strode near the fallen tower. There was so much to think about, though Kenren wanted the transfiguring of the egg to be dealt with first before anything else. When he turned to talk about it with Chenglei, he was surprised to see his love lost in thought too. Kenren placed a hand on his shoulder. "What are you thinking?"

Katsuya Katsuya

Renee froze before giving Kenren a warm smile. "Okay...Thank you, Ken-chan." She returned to the tent, sitting next to her mother as she snuggled with Rhea.

Chenglei jumped when he felt a hand on his shoulder, blinking as he focused on the prince. "...I-" His face turned red again. "I was...just thinking that...we should take care of Rhea, not my grandmother but I don't know if she wants that sort of attention." He frowned nervously. "and you? What do you think?"

"Well, I mean . . ." he took a deep breath. "Do you really want to take care of her . . . as a daughter?" he watched his expression carefully. "You don't have to do it, just because we're together, or for me. I don't even know what we will be to her yet, Chenglei, but if she's staying in the Orients, I want to be like a father to her. I know what it's like to feel just put somewhere for someone's convenience, I don't want her to feel that way."

He looked to the side. "So . . . what's the part of you that doesn't have anything to do with duty or perhaps feeling like it's your job to adopt her too say about all this?"

Meanwhile, in the tent, Rhea peeked an eye open at Renee, as she curled up into her cuddle. " Yes, I feel better about them!" she whispered. "Though I feel like I am a very big responsibility . . . Can we talk to mom and dad later tonight? I know it's sudden . . . but I know the world can't wait until I'm planted, because Luthien is still small, and when I go back to the ground I will be small, and Ethellion will have to strain for many, many years, until me and Luthien are big and strong again. So I have to be planted as soon as possible."

Katsuya Katsuya

Renee listened as she closed her eyes, relaxing. "Yea...We have to talk to mom and dad too...I know Ken-chan said not to say anything yet but...we have talk as quickly as possible." She squeezed her little sister again. "For now, I'm just going to cuddle with you until later tonight...if that's okay?"

Meanwhile Chenglei looked at Kenren as he listened intently. Then he looked at his sword for a moment before taking it off his side and passing it to the prince. "Hold this..." Kenren would notice while resting in his room and healing, is that Chenglei wouldn't relax until he takes his sword off his person. It's a small habit of the blonde's; to work once he has the sword beside him and not work when he does not have it. Like an on and off switch of being a soldier and being a regular person.

Once the prince holds onto Chenglei's sword, the blonde soldier let's out a sigh; his shoulders slumped a bit as he looked down at the ground, thinking. Then he looked at Kenren once more with conviction in his eyes. "I don't want her to feel like how my sister and I felt when our mother dropped us off on Granny. Like...Like we were just getting in her way, like we were just another obstacle in her life. A thorn in her side..."

His trembling hands curled up into fists. "...I want to raise her. Make her feel loved and wanted, no matter who she is or what she has done..." Then he smiled nervously. "This is...a really big responsibility, Ken'en...to raise a child. I...I never thought I would get to feel this nervous about what I should say around her and what advice she would need or with what she wants because she's already a growing girl; practically in her pre-teens. She would already have her own ideas and morals and possible want to have her own dreams...I want to support those dreams, hoping that she would get a better future then me...A dream that makes her happy too." He rubbed his arm with a shaky hand.

"It is okay!" whispered Rhea, then closed her eyes. This time, her little form relaxed and it seemed she really was going to go to sleep. The whole ordeal today must have made her very, very tired.

Outside, Kenren held Chenglei's sword then listened to him. After he spoke, he nodded. "Alright . . . Let's do it together." he held his shoulder again. He sighed. "We have so much to think about, shall we deal with the monster in the tower?"

"Together.." Chenglei placed his hand over Kenren's, lightly pushing it down as he squeezed meaningfully. Then he nodded. "Yes...let's deal with the monster in the tower first and then we can think through this more tonight." He silently asked for his sword back with a hand out.

Inside, Renee smiled as she laid down with Rhea, still cuddling as she wrapped the blanket around her snug so she would stay warm. "Pleasant dreams Rhea..." The older sister rubbed her back as she slept, listening to what everyone else is saying with a tired but bright smile on her face.

When James exclaimed about his expression, Thomas looked at Lydia a bit puzzled and in response to that Lydia smiled slightly and put both of her hands to her eyes widening them a bit to emulate that owl-like expression she often got. Thomas then laughed and nodded, "it's our grandmother's. Lydia actually looks a lot like her... except not old." he reclined on the cot instead of laying flat, the corner of his mouth quirking in an amused smirk, "she's actually a lot like her in other ways too."

Lydia's expression turned somewhat bashful but happy, as though the comment was a compliment to her and Thomas watched her for a moment, amused, his eyebrows raised slightly. Lydia glanced to James as he chuckled slightly at her brother's reaction to what she had said and Thomas' gaze followed after James told him not to be surprised and then laugh. Lydia pressed her hand against James' and shook her head, "it's alright James... honestly... I'm still surprised sometimes too," she giggled softly and closed her eyes as James sniffed her hair, a content smile on her face.

Thomas didn't look offended in the slightest, rather he looked a little hurt but somehow glad. He shook his head slightly, "oh no... I meant nothing by it, chap. It's just that Lydia is... well... Lydia," he chuckled slightly, looking upon his sister fondly, "and that made her somewhat of an anomaly in Bourgeaus."

As Lydia was set down with the Pendragons, Thomas lay back on his cot, though he didn't sleep, instead he just watched and listened, as though observing everything that his sister had become over the last year. Despite appearances, he had just as eagerly awaited her letters as the rest of his family and he had actually been the one to take a keen interest in Percy, followed closely by their mother who was amused by the fact that Percy was not only a cat, but a bird as well. Though the latter enjoying the company and novelty of the Aviafelix came as a great irritation to a certain fluffy white feline and so it had actually been decided that Thomas would care for the magical creature to keep Empress from getting jealous. Though despite her jealousy of her mistress liking Percy, as long as Madam Dubois refrained from paying too much attention to him in her presence, Empress was at least civil with him.

Lydia spoke freely about the spells she had learned as well as improved upon and of course mentioned the fact that with some of her spells she no longer had to speak an incantation to cast them. She then mentioned the first time that she discovered she no longer needed words for a spell when in a moment of need she had called upon Sasha with her heart and then timidly held the little owl out to her mentor.

In appearance, the young witch seemed like she was okay, but her mood shifted suddenly when Seth began talking about the recently past battle with Valdanr, her expression growing somewhat sullen as her hands clenched tightly on her blanket, though the change in her demeanor was only a flash as she quickly attempted to mask it with determination over the discussion about the egg, "in custody?" she shook her head vehemently, "we shouldn't dally then! There will be plenty of time to rest once we have defeated our enemies and the world is safe again," with that she tossed her blanket aside and once again began to try and get up from the cot.
