Hogwart's Next Generation.

"Miss Paret, yes," Professor Salisbury said, indicating the red head in the back of the room.

Alaska sat in the middle of the class next to both Scorpius and Albus, staring at the strange statue.

Albus scratched his neck, trying to remember from what he read over the summer. After a moment of thinking, he finally gave up on it and just rested his head on his palm.

Scorpius' face screwed up while looking at the gargoyle, trying to figure out what it was as well. He honestly didn't do any of the reading, but he tried to make it look like he did.

"It's a statue that' s been enchanted to breath fire right?" Rosie smiled a bit.

Sky hurried in, sitting the the middle row. She took out her notebook, ready to take notes. In her rush she had let her sweater sleeves slip up to her wrists.

Michael sat in the front row away from Phillip.

Jaycee was seated net to Rosie.

Gwen rolled her eyes with a smile as Rosie answered. Bout time she answered something anyway.

Tarron pretended to pay attention, but his mind was else where as he spaced out looking at the statue.

"Yes, Miss Paret. Five points to Slytherin. Fumos Bat Flamers are living statues that breathe fire. Because of this, their hides are actually made of stone, and stunning spells don't work on them. Magical ice, however, is quite effective, as you can see here. This is the glacius charm; although ice created naturally by the climate does not effect them, ice based in magic does. Flamers are most often found in abandoned castles and other old architecture, especially that dating back to the Gothic period. In an encounter with one, the ultimate goal is to freeze it, using the glacius charm. Before that, however, it is necessary to render it temporarily incapable of breathing fire; once its flame has been forcibly stopped, the fire enchantments on the Bats will fail for a short period, ranging from half a minute to a minute and a half. During this time, you will be able to freeze your target," Professor Salisbury lectured.

With a wave of her wand, stone bowls appeared on each table in front of the students, and she carried on. "We will work on the glacius charm later; in the mean time, use what you've learned from your summer work to practice extinguishing flames in the bowls before you. I would recommend removing all loose articles of clothing, homework, and text books from your tables. Girls, tie your hair up; I don't need anybody crying over singed hair. You have until the end of the class period, using a method of your choosing, to be able to extinguish the flames. Next class period, you will use what you've practiced to face the Bat Flamer, so I suggest you use your time here wisely," she said, eyeing the class narrowly. "No, I will not give you hints as to what spells to use. You've had all summer for that, Miss Trimble," Professor Salisbury added, directing the comment towards a particularly terrified looking girl. And with that, the professor turned and walked towards her desk, the empty bowls all simultaneously bursting with blue flame.

Gwen smiled at the flames and watched the heat flicker. She put her hand in the blue flames, not feeling a thing, and concentrated hard. SHe had never extinguished a flame before and what better time to try than now?

Rosie tied her hair back with a bow and tapped her chin with her wand. "Augumentia (spelling anyone?)." She said, filling the bowl with water.

Tarron scratched his head with his wand and whispered to Albus, "I play with fire, I don't put it out."

Sky almost groaned, not because of the spells, she had prepared all summer. She could do that. She could even pull up her hair, probably exposing blue splotches on her neck, but she would need to put her sweater sleeves up. Could she do that. No. She kept her sleeves pulled down as she swung her hair into a ponytail and hesitantly pushed her sleeves up to her elbows. Maybe the webbing was gone. She looked down. Nope.

Jaycee frowned, suddenly at a loss. She racked her brain, not coming up with anything.

Michael smiled. This was just first day easiness. He murmured a quick spell and flicked his wand towards the fire, watching the flames diminish.
(I'm too lazy and exhausted to look up the actual spells. xD )

"Very nice, Miss Paret. Aguamenti is an advanced charm that most Hogwarts students don't learn until sixth year," Professor Salisbury said with a mildly impressed nod. "Don't all copy her though; I can think of at least three more spells well within your abilities that will do the trick. Points if you can come up with a fourth, and more points for creativity."

Gwen concentrated hard, hearing about the points. The fire grew around her and she flipped her hand over, the fire now on her palm. She quickly closed and opened her hand, extinguishing the flame. "Done." She said happily.

She beamed at Scorpius, happy she had listened to her mum about easier ways to water plants. She had actually gotten praise from Professor Salisbury as well!

Tarron looked around before reaching to get a very heavy book off of a nearby desk. He put it on top of the bowl, cutting off all the oxygen to the flame. "Muggle ways count as well, right?"

(Laziness over.)

"Aqua Eructo," Sky whispered. She willed her wand to preform the spell on a smaller level.
"I guess that's one way," Sky laughed softly. She wasn't surprised not many people were taking this seriously. It was an easy task.

"The other Miss and Mister Paret, I will be interested to see how you plan on applying your tactics to a real Bat Flamer. Do you plan on reaching into its mouth and trying to locate the source of the flame with your hand?" Professor Salisbury said curtly to Gwen. "And I can't wait to see you trying to shove a textbook into a Flamer's mouth," she directed her last remark to Tarron. "Context, please remember the context in which I am asking you to perform these tasks." There was a trace of irritation in her voice as she wandered between the desks, checking on their progress. "Very good, Miss Ocreesha! Do you know the complementary charm, that when used in conjunction with yours, can eliminate the target?"

Alaska, Albus, and Scorpius all looked at eachother with a grin on their faces.

"Oh we've got this." They said in unison,

Alaska stood for a moment thinking of another spell, and eventually stood back a fair bit, her hair pulled up into a bun and robes off so she was only in jeans and a navy button up. She motioned for the kids in front of her to move before she continued.

"Aqua Eructo!" She said, struggling to hold her wand still as a stream of water erupted from her wand at the bowl, sending it across the room but effectively putting the flame out. For a moment, she stood and tucked her wand into the bun on the back of her head. With a bow, she threw her robes back on and started to dry up her mess.

Scorpius thought for a moment, and finally said "Deletrius!" after nearly ten minuets of changing the flame's color. The bowl itself disintegrated into sand, which still kept on burning. "Oh you've got to be kidding me."

"Flipendo Tria!" Albus said almost immediately, sucking the flame up into the miniature tornado, and then effectively blowing it out. she sat back down, acting as if the task was as easy as it ever could be.

"Try again, Mister Malfoy. This is a creature, not your wardrobe we're battling. And that's a nice attempt, Miss Nacht; let's try again with a bit more self control though, shall we?" Professor Salisbury continued to roam up and down the aisles. "Mister Potter, although a creative solution, you will have trouble handling it on a larger scale. Flamers produce much more fire than what you're dealing with now, and the twister required to deal with that would be equally as harmful to you as to the creature. Try again!"
[[Alright, I've got to go back to work. I'll see you all later, I hope!]]

Sky thought for a moment. She said the name of the spell with the nod. (Couldn't find the actual one. My chracter's smarter than me. xD )
(See you then!)

Tarron chuckled nervously and scratched the back of his head. "Sorry?" He looked at Albus, "Show off."

"I don't plan on sticking my hand in the beast's mouth but I do plan on practicing so I can extinguish a flame by just thinking about it." Gwen smiled politely at their teacher, creating another fire in the bowl and kept working.

Rosie giggled at Scorpius's frustration. "Having trouble, Mr.Malfoy?"

Albus huffed, swiping hair from his eyes. "I don't have any idea what you're talking about." He said with a smirk.

"Uh, no." He said nervously, not wanting to screw up infront of Rosie. Eventually he attempted the same spell Albus did, but while he did put out the flame he also managed to have the whirlpool of air spew the sand up at him, covering him in it. "Okay maybe a little."

Rosie chuckled and wiped some sand off of his face. "Want some help cleaning you up, dear?"

Sky was careful not to get wet by Alaska's blast and stepped out of the way, quickly pulling her sweater over blue hands and webbed fingers.
(I have to go for just a bit. Don't go too far without me.)

Tarron raised his eyebrows at Sky as she quickly put her sleeves down again. "You okay? You seem like you're terrified of water."

"Why?" He raised his eyebrows in curiosity.

Rosie giggled and wiped some sand off of his face, "You looked better before, dear." (ayezombie)

Jaycee finally thought of something. She whispered a spell under her breath and put the fire out.
Sky let out a sigh. "Because of this," she frowned, pulling up her sleeve.
