As for clan traditions... How about some sort of "right of passage" ceremony when they reach adult hood? Like doing something such as... Climbing a mountain and retrieving a special plant that grows up there? Or killing some sort of animal? Or dueling an older pack member? Just spit balling

Rite of Passage for Shamans would be the poison lake thing. Hunter rite of passage would be have your own first kill, alone. Warrior rite of passage would be to defeat your first large creature AND get a souvenir (like a horn). What do you think?

Or maybe it determines it? Say you are sent into the forest for a week, and depending what befalls you, IF you survive, you are either a hunter or a warrior. Special cases are Shaman's and Alpha's apprentice. (For when the Alphas need to choose a successor, they aren't at that age yet which is why there isn't such a position.)

I can incorporate this into the last idea! Say they just begin wandering and they could either stumble upon the grotto, a large beast attacks them, or they hunt their first kill alone?

Why don't we all just write whatever we want and whoever ends up writing the same stuff just coloberates and combines them? So everyone can be involved and it feels like 'ours"
