Fantasy for the king (always open)

Silas thought silently about her question. Did he want a queen? The traditional answer would be "Yes, I need a queen to give me heirs." Any sensible king would say this. Heirs would ensure his legacy, yes. But wouldn't it be nice to have someone that you can fully trust? Someone who will always have your back? Silas was brought back into reality as the princess apologized for her question. To this, Silas shook his head. "Don't be sorry. It's a common question in our line of work" he told her easily. The King looked over at her. "If you don't mind my asking, is there a reason that your father hasn't married you off yet?" He asked her. It was only several moments later that he realized that she might take offense to this and quickly corrected his statement. "I only ask because my father married my sister off when she was only 13."

Silas watched as the eldest sister greeted the younger one. He had only ever seen women interacting in court, so it was a very new experience for him to see sisters interacting with each other. His mother had never been to fond of his sister, as she wasn't a boy. So she didn't spend much time with her.  It intrigued him how easily they talked to each other.

Vaerla smiled at Silas as he greeted her, looking him over realizing how young he appeared to be, compared to most kings she had seen before. Not that she was to judge, her father was a rather young king though not nearly as young as the man before her. Vaerla finally caught herself staring at them man, her cheeks becoming hot with embarrassment, her eyes quickly searching for someone or something else to land on.

That's when she looked to her sister. Listening to her speak in such a regal manner was unusual to Vaerla, so to hear her was a bit of a shock to her. It took her a moment to realize what her sister was saying, not fully connecting her words to make any sense till now. So far in Vaerla's mind she was proving her father's worst fears, she had to save herself soon. "A lovely idea. It will be nice to have company... I'm sure father won't mind." She looked to Decthalia knowing full well none of this would have been possible if under their father's watch. She knew her father and sister had planned this but she thought it would have been canceled due to her father being away, but who was she to argue in front of a guest.

When the two started to speak to each other the subject threw her slightly off guard. Marriage? Why on earth would they be on that sort of topic? She knew she and her sister,  were far past the normal age of marriage but to have to the whole conversation was a bit unusual. Most Royals kept that to themselves. Her father had already chosen a few candidates for Vaerla though they all were with men much older than her. To most Vaerla was the ideal candidate, soft-spoken and rarely put up a fight, perfect marriage material. Though she was happy for her father to not put their marriage on his things to do. Before Vaerla could be married her sister would have to be first, it was simply tradition. This was one of the rarer times Vaerla was happy that her sister was so hard headed, because of this is was a bit difficult for her father to find anyone to step up and court her. Decathalia's beauty went without question but her strong personality was what caused a few men to be wary.

Doing as she was told Vaerla went to sit down, crossing her hands over her lap, like she was taught. She couldn't mess this up for her sister, knowing she'd hear about it later if she did. Looking at the various plates Vaerla smiled, seeing most foods she hadn't seen in years. Her sister really pulled out all the stops for this one meeting. All her schooling leading up to this point, her make it or break it. She bit one of her lips to stop her from speaking up. Most meals it was just her sister and her, there they talked freely about anything and everything, so to have to watch her words was a slight struggle for Vaerla.

Decthalia got a bit flustered when he told her that it wasn't her fault that she asked. She smiled at him and looked down at her plate of food before and said a small prayer to thank for the food. Decthalia was a very thankful person who took the time to appreciate even the little things that others may bring or even what life may bring. When she was done giving thanks, she looked up at Silas to reply back to his statement. "Do we not all long for someone like that in this world?" She asked him referring to the part about someone who you can trust and someone who will always be there for you. When Decthalia heard that he said that his father wedded his sister off when she was just 13 years old, was unbelievable and it was sad to hear. Decthalia knew that if she was ever a mother she would not put that pressure on a 13 year old. "I am shocked, that is quite unreal that something would happen like that." She tells him and she wonders how he feels but she doesn't want to go into deeper and more personal conversations then that.

Decthalia slowly picked up her spoon that had a good serving of rice in it and she opened her mouth and took a bite. When she finished chewing she turned her head to listen to her sister talk but still ate little by little. "He did come out all this way to be here, the least we could do is show him our hospitality here in Citt." Decthalia tells her sister. Decthalia wasn't so worried about her sister speaking, but she knew that her sister is the type to say anything that comes to mind without thinking it, at least when Decthalia is around.

Silas unconciously smirked as Decthalia blushed and then proceeded to pray to her gods for her food. He thought that it was a nice guesture, a way to stay close to her gods. Even though he didn't believe in it, he could still respect it. As the princess answered him, he nodded slowly. His entire court had been pushing him to find a bride, as of late. But he wasn't about to marry some 14 year old girl just so that his courts would stop bugging him. He supposed that he would have to go much further south to find a suitable bride. One who could use her brain, but also could use her heart. Silas blinked several times, trying to shake the thought from his head. He was here in the presence of the two women. He should have his mind focused on a conversation with them.

The king had already taken a bite of his rice when the princess commented on his sister's marrying age. A saddened nod came from his head as the thought of the silent tears that had rushed down the poor girl's face as she was shipped off rushed to his head. He would never forget that day. Never had he hated his parents more than that fateful day. "Yes, it was incredibly cruel" he answered, his voice less smooth and less charming than it usually was. But the king took another bite and seemed to let the saddening topic wash away. He had learned a long time ago that he couldn't change the past. He could only adjust the future.

Vaelra idly stirred the soup that was placed in front of her as she listed to Silas and her sister. To be married off at thirteen wasn't necessarily uncommon as it was terrifying. She could only imagine the feelings Silas's sister might have gone through. She was unsure on how to go about the situation so she decided it best to keep to herself till she could construct an intelligent response. She realized she had not prayed as she watched her sister bow her head. So much excitement in one day she was slightly flustered, so it was reasonable she forgot a simple gesture yet she knew her father would have something to say if she didn't say a little prayer. Placing her spoon to the side of her bowl she dipped her head, whispering a small prayer before she resumed to swirling her spoon in her bowl.

Bringing the spoon up to her mouth she blew on it softly before placing the liquid in her mouth, savoring the flavors before she swallowed and continued to stir her soup. She decided they should probably stray from the subject of marriage seeing the tension start to rise. She racked her mind till she found a decent topic to talk about. "So Sir Silas, how long do you plan on staying?" What she really wished to ask was what he and her sister had talked about behind closed door but she knew better than to bring that up.  She gave him a soft smile as she looked his way, trying to be as inviting as possible.

"That is a good question Vaerla. How many days will you spend?" Decthalia said as she took a bite of her vegetables. To many people who come over to the castle and dine with Decthalia they will usually question her about why she doesn't eat meet. That is because, Decthalia is a vegetarian. She finds it very sad that most of the animals that are captured are skinned alive, boiled, cooked and then served to them to eat. Decthalia has such a kind heart that she doesn't have the courage to eat meat. Her father doesn't like when she does that because in his eyes, he sees nothing wrong with eating meat. Decthalia has been a vegetarian for about eight years now, and to her it has been the best free meat eight years she has ever had. She took another bite of her vegetables until they were all gone. To finish it off she washed it down with cold refreshing water.

Before the dinner was about to come to an end when they servants began to take their plates, they were brought out a delicious slice of chocolate cake each. Decthalia loved chocolate cake and if she could eat chocolate for the rest of her life, then she would.

Silas had nearly finished his deliciously plate of meat and rice. He had noticed that Princess Decthalia had taken near extream measures as not to be eating meat. The man couldn't possibly comprehend why someone wouldn't want to eat meat. The flavor and the warmth of it was so welcoming. But he decided to say nothing about it, since he was a guest in her kingdom. They all sat in the uncomfortable silence of a few moments. The silence wreaked of tension; it reeked of fear and sadness. Sadness of the past, fear for the future.

Releif burst through Silas's mind as Princess Vaelra desperately changed the subject. The question was one of ease, both personally and politically. "I intend to stay only until the end of the week. I don't want to overstay my welcome" he said, looking at the younger princess. Suddenly a gorgeous peace of chocolate cake was set in front of him. Just looking at it made his mouth water. Silas saw how Decthalia was eyeing it and figured that it was delicious.

Vaelra looked at her sister's plate before turning to look at Silas, smiling at his words. "You are welcome to stay as long as you like." She smiled before turning to look back at her sister's plate. Her sister was far ahead of her time, though she still could not understand her resentment to eat meat, but it was her sisters choice so she would not question it. Vaelra eyed the cake placed in front of her. Contrary to popular belief Vaelra did not have a sweet tooth. Most sweets were not for her, preferring more savory items.

She watched as the servants started taking away the more savory items to replace them with sweets. Stopping one of them as she handed them her piece of cake, not wanting it to go to waste. Gesturing to one of the servants to come closer to her. Upon whispering in his ear, the servant plucked the piece of cake from the table, smiling at the princess before disappearing. Left with a blank space before her Vaelra filled it by placing her hands on top of the table as she folded one over the other, looking towards Silas. "So tell me, King Silas, What does Drea mean to you?" Vaelra aways liked to ask this question, her father's answer less than satisfying, but it showed why kind of ruler a person way. Of course Vaelra could not really answer this question being she just recently saw the outside of the castle walls, and she was less than pleased. None the less she looked at him, a spark of curiosity in her eye

"Well...isn't that excellent news to hear!" Decthalia said with a smile as she finished her slice of cake before the others could even sink their utensils into it. Decthalia was a huge chocolate lover and till this day she still has a piece of chocolate whether it be a candy or a slice of cake once in a while before she goes to sleep or if she is having trouble sleeping. As the servant came over to take Decthalia's plate to go off and clean it, she was handed a note that just read that all of the preparations were met for King Silas stay. It was pretty rare to see servants reading and writing because most of them couldn't but in this castle Decthalia made sure that they all could read and write well in order to work at the castle and if they couldn't she made sure that the tutor that she had helped them with the basic skills. Decthalia a very generous Princess because not many of them would take so much time to educate their servants, but Decthalia thought that in order to work you must first learn how to read and write.

"It looks like your room has been prepared for you and your belongings are there in your room once you get up there." She informs him as she takes a sip of her water. Decthalia raised an eyebrow when she heard the familiar question that her sister always asks whenever they have a guest. Decthalia turned to look at her before she turned her head to face Silas and waited for his reply to that question.

Silas watched as a servant girl handed a note to the eldest princess. It was incredibly rare to see a servant who was literate. He had only taught his higher, more important servants how to read and write. he Had nothing against his servants' literacy, however, he knew that there were more important things at stake. As Decthalia told him what the note read, he nodded his head. "Thank you for your hospitality" He told her with his soothing voice. By this time, Silas had finished his cake. A servant reached around him gently and took his plate. He watched as the plate was lifted away, and smiled gently, remembering the wonderful tasting dessert.

It took a few moments for the king to answer princess Vaelra's question. He knew that by the interest on both of the girl's faces, this was a test. Within the few moments that he took to compose himself, he had formed his answer. The king looked up at the younger princess. "Drea is the most sacred part of my being. It is the heart that beats in my chest, and the brain that tells it to do so. Drea is my first love, my first friend. Drea will be the only one with me on my deathbed," he told her. As Silas answered the princess, he looked straight into her eyes and would not look away. It was only when he finished that he blinked and relaxed his body a bit.

Decthalia noticed that smile from him and it warmed her heart to know that something made him happy. Decthalia was pretty satisfied with the way he answered the questions and how beautifully it was said. "Seems like a good answer for someone that seems to be in love with his kingdom." She said with a smile as she took another sip of her water. Decthalia ran her hand through her wavy hair, flipping it just a bit to the side. Decthalia looked across the room to see that it was 7 o'clock, she knew that she had to go do something around that time so she got up from where she was sitting. "Will you both please excuse me, I must go attend to something." She tells the two as she clears her throat. She moved away from them and walked towards the door, as soon as she touched the door knob she looked back and stared directly at her sister. "Please show King Silas to his room. I know you are old enough to behave properly on your own," Decthalia tells him as she opens the door and closes it.

Decthalia walked towards the direction that she was going in and it was down a long dark hallway. When she reached to her destination she stopped in front of a door, underneath it was glowing brightly and she opened the door and closed it as soon as she went in. This room was a garden room but it is shut off from the rest of the palace, it's where she says her prayers, her goals and aspirations once every week. Plus it's a place where she can be alone and not even her sister knows of this room. She believes that at least someone is listening to her and at times her questions are answered in strange forms.

Decthalia was still ashamed of what she had to said to the king but she knew that it would look bad if she went back on her room. But it kept on bothering her when she had told him that she would make him pay if he tried to betray her, she didn't really mean for it to come out like that but it did and now she is ashamed of herself. She knows that as princess she needs to apologize but that's the hard part because she doesn't think that she can look at him to tell him.

As soon as Silas's eyes locked onto hers Vaerla felt heat rise in her cheeks. Though she saw it as a challenge, therefore her eye contact did not waver from his, her small smirk ever present. When he finished speaking she felt as though she should applaud him for his theatrics but was unsure if his word was true or not. The words so beautifully strung together could make any woman swoon but Vaerla would put that thought on the back burner. "Beautifully said King Silas." She said as she still held his gaze, her small smirk turning into a smile.

Her attention soon turned to her sister as Vaerla realized what she was saying. She smiled now wavering as she could feel her chest tighten due to nervousness.  Before she could say anything her sister was gone, the door slowly closing behind her. The room sat in silence for a good minute or two giving Vaerla time to process what had just happened. Gripping the table in front of her as she pushed her chair back, not waiting for one of the servants to help her. Standing up she looked over at Silas and smiled. "If you're ready I can show you to your room. Of course she would nit be alone with this man, gods forbid, instead, they would most likely be accompanied by Hahna if not another female servant. She waited for Silas to stand before making her way to the door, as the servants opened the doors for her to go through.

@Rainy83 @sprouhtt

Silas gave a small nod accompanied with an equally small smile as the two girls seemed to be pleased with his answer. Since he had no family to devote his mind and heart, Drea had taken it's place. He did wish for a family, but a loyal family was hard to come by these days. The King watched as the eldest princess hurried off, as if she might be late for something. His curiosity nearly got the better of him as he was about to ask where she was off to. But he had to remind himself that he was no longer in his home. She was not under his rule, and therefore not obliged to give him answers to her own business . He then looked to the younger princess. She has to take a few minutes to collect herself. Silas didn't mind this. It actually gave him time to  think. Marriage had been brought up several times throughout dinner. He had had to spend an entire 2 day ride with advisors who had been pestering him about the subject. His best option was the Southern princess. While she wasn't a looker, maybe her personality was agreeable.

After this reassuring thought, the princess stood and offered to show him to his room. "Thank you" he told her. Silas stood as the princess began to walk towards the door. He slowly followed her, not wanting to be too close. The moment that they stepped outside, the King realized that he was surprised that someone wasn't accompanying them. Usually, for the princess's safety, someone was there to make sure that everything went smoothly. His mind soon traveled to the beautiful castle. It was beautifully decorated. Simple, yet strong. Silas was definetly a man who liked to analyze people. He had analyzed the princess Decthalia, had he was now doing it to Vaerla. He noticed how her walk was much more mechanical than her sister's. He assumed that it was due to the fact that her sister had more worldly experience. The younger princess had only read about proper behavior in books. She was also notcibally shorter. That and the fact that she didn't get out as much as her sister may lead her to feel less worthy of her family and title, and thus she might try to find a way to prove herself to her father and her kingdom.

(I am so sorry that it took so long!)

Vearela looked up at Silas and smiled as she heard the all too familiar steps of Hahna behind her. "Do you often travel outside your kingdom." She questioned him, filling the silence with a simple question. Without her sister nearby she was unsure about what to say, wondering what is and is not appropriate to ask a king. Folding her hands behind her, as she was taught to do so, as she turned the corner. She could have gone straight and not turned for some time, but this was her favorite hall. Mirror panel's lining the halls, almost covering every inch of wall. Now she didn't care much at looking at her own reflection but more so because of the infinity of images within the mirror, each mirror reflection off of another creating more depth within it. She found it truly fascinating while others found it...well annoying.

Turning right at the end of the hall Vaerela continued to walk a few feet down before stopping at a door with two guards stationed outside. "This is your room. There will be a maid assigned to you so if you have any questions or need please ask her. Or if you do not wish to speak with her, my room, as well as my sister's, is right down the hall. Breakfast will be at seven and if you are up to it my sister and I will take our nightly stroll in the garden at eight. I would love for you to join." She smiled, attempting to be as hospitable as she could. "If there is nothing else I shall take my leave. It was a pleasure to meet you King Silas." There was a twinkle in her eye if one looked hard enough, mostly due to her curiosity of the man who had made his way into her kingdom. Unlike her sister who she saw as more level headed, Vaerela preferred to have her head up in the clouds, dreaming endlessly about silly little things. Perhaps she was not made to be part of the crown, merely born to be part of the background. While she hoped this would be untrue, she had accepted her fate.

@Rainy83 @sprouhtt  (Apologies. Exams have me dead.)

The King shook his head as he walked beside Vaerela. Her question was a decent one. The question she had asked was one that wouldn't interfere with any of their personal lives, but it had the potential to lead to more interesting questions. "Unfortunately, I am not able to visit other kingdoms often. Drea keeps me on my toes." He told her with a shrug of his shoulders. As the duo continued to walk, he noticed that the princess was taking him through a hall of mirrors. As he looked at their unending reflections, his head began to ache. While he was  mesmerized, he didn't need to have a headache. "If you don't mind, I will ask the same question," Silas parried. He could already guess the answer, but he figured that it might give him better insight if he let her answer.

The two finally came upon two doors with guards protecting it's entrance. He took in all of the information that was given to him, analyzing it all, deciding how everything would work. But he was surprised to get an invite to the princess' evening stroll. Of course, he wouldn't let this surprise be revealed upon his face. A calm and collected smile ran across his face. "Thank you for your generous hospitality my Lady. However, I will leave you to walk with your sister without me. I would hardly have anything to talk of," there seamed to be a spark of amusement in his eyes as he thanked her. Silas had no intention of staying in his room, however he didn't want to intrude on the sisters any more than he already had. King Silas then bent down and gently kissed the hand of the princess. "I assure you. The pleasure was all night," the man said before straightening. "Good night Princess" Silas said before heading into the open doors.

As the doors shut behind him, Silas looked around his room. It was a cozy one, with two fireplaces to heat the large room. The entire rooms was adorned with fabrics and pictures, all of which coordinated with the kingdom's colors. Even the bedspread had the kingdom's insignia on it. Soft wooden floors stretched across the room, although a large rug covered most of it. The large room only had a few windows, but they were fairly large, as to let in light during the day. In one corner, there was a writing desk. The relief that this piece of furniture brought the King, was immeasurable. He immediately said down on the cherry wood chair and picked up the quill, dipping it in the ink. Unlike most kings, Silas wrote down everything that had happened during the day, so that he would always have records of what had happened in his point of view. But as the night grew later, Silas began to grow restless. He wanted to view the castle more. Luckily, it was past 8. Maybe he would wait 5 more minutes.

As she finished praying to the gods and thanking them fo what they have done as well as apologizing to them for her sins, she begins to walk out and locks the door behind her. Decthalia really loved her little sanctuary that was created for her because in her defenses it's a way for her to relax and unwind from all of her royal duties sometimes. As she made her way down the dark hallway she stopped in front of a window to admire how the sky began to change colors and how the moon was a source of light during the night. Just looking at the scenery made her smile, Decthalia was a very calm and serene person who finds even the littlest things soothing. As soon as she was done, she made her way towards the other wing of the castle where her bedroom was. Decthalia made her way towards the room and when she entered it she got undressed immediately and ran into the bathing room which was connected to her bedroom, so you can say that she has her own private bathroom which is nice. When she got in her bath was already made, the tub was as big as a pool and it did get pretty lonely since she barely sees her sister anymore.

As Decthalia began to bathe she wondered what King Silas was doing and if he was enjoying his stay here at the castle. She also wondered how her sister were holding up too since Decthalia had kind of rushed out of the room in a hurry. Decthalia began to think that perhaps after her bath she should go and check up on her sister and then the king before she goes to sleep.

Vaerla looking over at Silas before quickly looking away, biting her lip out of pure nervousness. Come on Vaerla he's testing you. She told herself, releasing a breath she didn't know she was holding. "Well...Someone needs to stay at the kingdom, we all can't be wandering off. Seeing I'm the youngest I suppose the responsibility falls to me." Vaerla applauded herself for not necessarily flat-out saying she wasn't allowed to leave.

When they said their goodbyes at the door Vaelra's heart stopped when Silas raised her hand to his lips. Of course, it was a normal thing to do, often reading it in her books her tutor gave her to read, though she never expected it to happen. "Well if you change your mind you're always welcomed to join." She could feel her cheeks start to heat up, though she attempts it to hide it with a smile. After finishing their goodbyes and Silas disappearing into his room before she headed to her room.

Making her way to her room she found herself hovering around her sister's door. She and her sister seemed to have grown distant between the span of a few month's, and Vaelra knew it was mostly her fault, seeing she had become rather jealous of her sister. Though standing at the door Vaelra sighed and knocked before opening it up. Walking in only to find the room empty. Looking around her eyes went to the door of the connecting bathroom, determining that that was where her sister resided at the moment. Vaelra shrugged making her way over to her sister's bed as she flopped onto it, letting out a loud sigh as she attempted to relax.

Silas wrote quickly as the light faded from the sun outside his windows. Several times servants had come to check on him. He had to admit, they were very punctual. Every hour and a half, someone would come in and offer to make him more comfortable. But each time, he declined them, ignoring the cramps that began to grow in his hands. It took a long while, but the king eventually realized how late it was. Yet he still wanted to tour the castle. Silas hesitantly put his quill down and stood up, noticing how quiet the castle was. While Drea had a fairly large castle, it was nothing compared to this. The beauty and complexity of this castle astounded him.

Silas then put on his jacket, making sure to look at least a little presentable, just in case he ran into one of the princesses. The man opened the large wooden doors and decided to turn left. This eventually led him to a small, well kept garden. Most of it consisted of beautiful green trees and bushes, but every now and then, there were brilliant patches of color. The sight was breath taking. Silas watched it for a moment, taking it all in before he took a step towards it. However, the King stopped himself. He wasn't sure if this was a sacred place for the palace. So he continued his walk, watching for any more interesting rooms.
