also, having the thread open when someone posts doesn't count as 'viewing' the thread for the alert system, so unless you refresh the page it'll stop giving you alerts until you do

I know, but even with it closed it still just randomly stops giving me the notications. I check it every time I get a notification.

There's probably posts slipping through without you noticing, having the thread open removes the notification tag. I just check my thread every now and again and notifications always work.
