Fandom Fallout: Legends of the Badlands

"Ferrin." she stated simply in response to the man. It wasn't like she had some amazingly constructed rhetoric planned for meeting someone, but it was what it was. "I worked a a guard for a trader. Hounds got to him though, and I was headed to Colonia originally for lack of a better place to go."

As the people readied themselves against her, believing her to be a potential threat, Ferrin made a point to check who reached where, reaction times and a few other simple things just to get a good grasp on the who of the people she'd come across. It was obvious that not everyone from the group was used to each other, and the loud one definitely seemed like he was fresh to the game. He reminded her of a fresh Privt just pulled from the slave dredges. Shaking her head, she rested her spear across both shoulders and rested her hands atop it as she heard them mention hornets.

"They probably heard you too. In fact I wouldn't be surprised if the Fel Marsh heard you given the volume," she responded dryly, walking a slight semi-circle around the grouping before bringing herself into view of the hornets, "I can easily say that you've made your first big mistake, and that it would be time to go. Unless, mayhaps, you'd find yelling at them to be a more useful approach?"

With that she turned her back to the group and faced the hornets, figuring out their speed and how long it would take them to reach. Well, not long enough if they just stood around.

"So, since you've gotten me into the hornet problem, you get to lead me out of the hornet problem," she snapped, directing her comment at the man who had yelled.

Daphne

"Someone sure thinks they're top dog." Daphne commented, smirking dryly. This girl was already quite distasteful, personality-wise at least. 'I doubt you've got many friends.' She though, pulled her second knife free after hearing of the hornets.

She now moved away from the direction they'd be coming, once again towards the back of the group. She'd rather not be on the front lines when facing those things.

Then, figuring if they got close enough for her to use her blades then she'd already be pumped full of poison, she dropped her duffle to the group and rummaged through it, pulling out her Luger. She checked to make sure it was loaded, but sticking it in the back of her jeans. "Time to play shoot-em-up then?" She asked, not talking to anyone in particular.

"Hornets? Why did they have to be hornets...."She muttered preparing her rifle for the fight to come before sigh. "Great here I thought this was going to be just a scavenger run... Heh, it is actually just another scavenger run."She said jokingly. "Keep together call out what you see to the other and work together. WE should do fine everyone."

Nic remained back as Tess readied her weapons, the blades folding out and the eye glowing. They eyes was something she knew to terrify people given how rouge assultorns could tear though people with that eye alone. Though the threat that Tess was ready to eliminate wasn't actually a threat just one of the weird tribals. Still she let others do that talking as well she wasn't exactly the person to say who could join their group, though the words Fel Marsh reminded her of something maybe, she could just be thinking of a marsh mostly likely that. Then there was the problem of the hornets well the tribal seemed to want to just sit back and wait for them to take care of the hornets.

" We should leave ma'am fighting hornets is not advisable" Tess said blades still ready eye still glowing.

" You are right, lets go Tess" Nic said not wanting to fight with the giant insects, she had tangled with them once or twice over the years and never was she eager to repeat the experience.

The problem with the hornets wasn't the hornets themselves, they were big yes but they could be killed rather simply assuming they didn't sting you, it was that they always had numbers. It seemed that for every one you saw there were 5 or 6 nearby waiting so they always ended up swarming you and that was if the next wasn't nearby, god help you if the nest was nearby.

Another of the group spoke up, Nic hadn't bothered to learn names so she really didn't know what to call anyone and they seemed to think that they would fight the hornets. Well at least she would slow the hornets down while Nic and Tess got a head start.

" Perhaps we should help them ma'am, a group of this size maybe able to take a sizable number of hornets with minimal casualties" Tess said no doubt using just math that said at least a few would die, she had been wrong before though.

" If we leave them what are the chances of hornets following us once they kill everyone here? Nic asked not really caring what the thought might do for morale of everyone abotu to face the hornets.

"87.9845 repeating percent chance of hostile pursuit with a 75.556 percent chance of them catching us"

Jay's eyes widened at the prospect of fighting three huge hornets with just a softball bat. He had enough trouble fighting humans, on the rare occasions that it happened, but one can't barter with a hornet. Faintly, he could start to hear their incessant buzzing as they hovered slowly closer.

"I know I'm not in the best position to give advice, having got us into this situation and all that, but I'd say to anybody with guns; now may be a good time to start shooting them," he advised meekly, his put-on confidence over the situation quickly fading.

"Jay use this," Alex ran over to Jay and handed him his machete. "Don't cut yourself." The bat might be more useful on feral ghouls. Alex then turned towards the buzzing and pulled out his modified 9mm.

Dode stopped shambling up the hill, the buzzing could be heard now, straight ahead. He fell onto his left knee while raising the rifle up to his eye, locking up his body while aiming. He was ready for the hornets, the others were moving toward him, there footsteps pounding the dry ground behind him. "Come on...where are yi?", he whispered. He was motionless now, gently breathing to keep his rifle steady, despite the pain surging from his bent legs.

The hornets flew over the top of the hill, rapidly approaching the group. Dode still didn't move, instead gently adjusting his aim, accounting for the rapid movement...**BANG**. The sound of the gun tore through Dode's ears, a sound he'd become used to in the waste. The bullet, like the bang, sliced through the air, tearing through one of the hornet's stinger, ripping it off in a bloody mess. The hornet dropped to the ground just after the stinger, it's wings still flapping wildly, but it was obviously in too much pain to fly. Dode got to his feet, snapping the bolt of the Enfield back and then cocked it back in place, the action nice and smooth. The next round was loaded, but the other hornets were flying rapidly toward the group. He clicked on the safety and threw the rifle behind him, the strap forcing the gun into his back, then walked back toward the group quickly, drawing his sidearm...

Nic stayed back while Tess ran at the hornets, blades extended the eye beam charging very slowly. This was how things tended to go with the two Tess serving as the one to take the hits and generally kill most of whatever attacked while Nic shot at them from afar, though that didn't always work. Sometimes someone deiced to target Nic that was why she had replicated some military tech and reinforce her hazmat suit, though that only delayed things.

Tess moved swiftly just as her body was made to and it was this swiftness that had kept Nic from basically making Tess into a sentry bot that could take more damage and carry more goods. She charged the injured hornet, though as she was the thing going at the wasps they would likely see her as the bigger threat than those that were taking pot shots at them. It was simplistic reasoning but Hornets were simplistic creatures, they might be big but they weren't the brightest. Still Tess didn't target the two ones in the air instead she killed the one that was already injured banking on the hornets to attack her because they were closer.

Nic stayed where she was taking out her laser pistol and took aim at one of the well off hornets. Now Nic was not crack shot and hitting something like the wings was hard but the chance of crippling it was to her a better idea than just killing it. Well she knew she was unlikely to kill one before it got to her so if she could buy time then good. Nic shot at the hornet but as expected she missed the wings, she did hit its legs but that likely just made it mad.

Anna woke up with a yawn, stretched, and looked at her clock groggily. Shit..she was late. Very, very late. She was supposed to of already left with whoever else was leaving Colonia but instead she overslept after staying up late. And now here she was, left behind. Hopefully they weren't too far ahead. She quickly ate a small breakfast, gathered her things, said goodbye to her parents, and dashed out of the house and down the streets. When she reached the gates she frowned to herself, no one was there as expected. Which meant she had to travel to find them..alone. This was bad, alone wasn't a good thing at all. Especially in the badlands. Sighing she clutched her bear tightly, one of the only things she'd opted to take that wasn't a weapon or otherwise a tool of survival, before running down the path she assumed everyone took going by the footsteps in the dirt.

Luckily it didn't take her long to catch up with everyone. Unluckily they were under siege by hornets. Anna's eyes widened at the scene before her, most of them had melee weapons from the looks of it..so if she didn't act fast her little group would get cut down before it began. She gently yet quickly stuffed her bear in her bag before drawing her rifle and taking aim down the sights. Her rifle was completely silent, even if you stood beside her you'd never hear a sound, thus it they could keep the hornets distracted she could aid in easily taking them down.

She didn't make any sound whatsoever before sending three nails directly at and into one of the hornets, dropping it quickly. Thus she repeated the process, aiming for the hornets vitals and firing in an effort to quickly get rid of them. She was a good shot, but she was no marksman, so the chance of every shot hitting wasn't a hundred percent.

Alex ran towards a hornet and shot it twice. He had to roll to the side because it charged straight at him. "Ah shit," Alex said. He looked at his arm and noticed a cut. He stared up at the beast and saw blood drip from the stinger. He pulled up his pistol and shot it straight in the head.

Alan felt utterly useless. Hiding behind a tree, quietly observing the motley crew. His gamma gun would do nothing, and the plasmas had just as much a chance of hurting his companions. And if anyone thought he'd be charging them with a pocket knife...So, he instead lyed in wait, scanning his environment for signs of their destination, or a way to defeat the wingéd menace.

Daphne

"Shit!" Daphne exclaimed, backing away from the giant hornets. She popped off a few shots clumsily as she backed away, hitting nothing but air. "Calm down Daph, you knew this would happen..." She said to herself, finally standing her ground and firing more precise shots at the winged creatures. This time, she managed to tear one's wings apart, send it sprawling helplessly into the ground. Injured, but not dead.

She didn't want it to sting anyone who got within reach, to she rushed over quickly and fired three more bullets into it's head. Happy with her work, she surveyed the others. They all seemed to be taking care of themselves. Well, most of them. As usual, the brains cowered before the brawn. Then again, that was understandable. Melee weapons weren't much good against these guys.

Satisfied, she backed away again, shooting whatever she thought she'd hit in an attempt to help the others.

Everyone with guns seemed to be holding there own, observed Dode as he emptied a pistol clip into 3 hornets. He looked across at the frontline as he loaded a fresh clip and stowed the empty cartridge, a mess of bullets and hornet remains littered the ground in front. The group was in something of a fighting retreat, killing a few at a time then stepping back, keeping as much distance as possible from the onslaught..."No bad aye?" Dode shouted, laughing slightly, "Ten minutes fae Colonia... And we're already getting battered".

He took a few steps back, his gun aimed at the swarm, firing off a few shots at the closest Hornets, while watching Alex roll across the ground, shooting a Hornet point blank... 'We're holding... But how long can we keep this up?' he wondered, trying not to let the panic seep onto his face...

Alex ignored the wound and he continued firing on the constant hornets approaching. Suddenly he realized Alan was missing. "The hell did he go?" He told himself. Alex spotted him behind a tree. Before Alex could say anything a assultron bolted past and hit a hornet straight in the head. "Thanks for that ," he said.

Jay couldn't move. He stood in the middle of the group, paralysed by the buzzing, eyes wide. It was impossible for him to know if this was fear, or an actual effect of the amplified buzzing, but he hoped for his pride's sake that it was the latter.

"Shit," he muttered, snapping out of it. After the first three hornets came, their pheromones must have attracted more. Luckily, he knew from common sense that if they were indeed close to a hive, there would be hundreds- he reckoned that these hornets may be scouts, looking for food.

A smaller hornet emerged from over the hill and hovered unnoticed towards the tree Alan sat in. In all the mayhem, nobody seemed to notice it.

It had seemed that Jay had long ago dropped the machete out of fear, so he fumbled hurriedly for the strap on his bag where his bat was held, and pulled it free, before charging for the hornet.

"Have at thee, wanker!"

With a surprisingly powerful swing, the bat collided with the hornet's eye, crushing it. The hornet was sent flying into a branch, on which it became impaled.

Ferrin watched the group as they set to work. She knew that overall eventually she was going to have to step in, or run, either way she was largely assessing the grouping. It seemed that the heavy hitters were armed with rifles, though tha man at the top of the hill with the Enfield seemed in bad shape before things even started. Another heavy hitter was the robot. It was doing serious work. It meant there were only two people that were left. The loud mouth and the ghoul.

They were off to the side, the ghoul having stayed back, and the loud mouth having gone to help him. They were going to get themselves killed, especially given their separation. By all right Ferrin figured she had full reason to sit back and watch...

"Auferfussake!"

Rolling forward, Ferrin scooped up the machete the loud mouth had dropped earlier and tossed it in the air twice, catching it both times to test it's balance before hefting it back and throwing it at one of the hornets now making a bee-line(hehe, geddit?) towards the pair by the tree. The blade sunk into the back of one of the hornets, causing it to land heavily in between the two men.

Shouting for someone to use the machete, she then pulled a throwing knife and launched it forth. While it sank into the abdomen of one of the hornets, it didn't kill it. Instead Ferrin readied herself and swung the haft of her spear around, cracking the beast over the head. As it hit the ground she wrenched her throwing blade free before slamming it back down in a critical spot before moving on from the dead insect. Finally closing on the pair of men, Ferrin growled out instructions she'd hope they followed, it was standard tactics for the Dragoons anyhow.

"Ghoul, use the machete, and both you and the loud mouth get back to back. If you move, move together, don't let anything separate you!"

As she shouted she managed to skewer a fast moving hornet on her spear and then strike down another. Still, they needed to get out of this.

"Move to the group, go!"

Mary fired short burst at the hornets who were quickly bridging the gap between them. Her gun wasn't that accurate in range despite how much she wished it to be so to be effective she needed to let them closer that was comfortable. Still she was accurate enough when they came in range, her three short burst did the job handhandily. However one neared close to her and she nearly got out of the way when it went to sting her. She replied by swinging her rifle hard at the creature bringing to the ground before emptying the last few bullets in it. She reloaded her rifle quickly before letting out a burst behind Jays head taking out a hornet that came too close.

"Can do!" He responded to the late arrival, realising that she probably had a lot more idea of what she was doing than he did.

"Alan, come on down, it'll be safer with the group," Jay advised, slower and calmer than the newcomer, as he began to properly look at the situation. A close buzzing brought his attention away to a close-by hornet, flying weakly towards him. He could see a few bullet holes in its chest already, and it was clearly injured.

It jerked towards him, stinger first, and a well-timed swing took its abdomen off, sending the twisted creature down. As Jay punched the air in celebration, he felt something sharp and warm sink into the back of his thigh, followed by unbearable pain. The stinger was long and, it seemed, dripping with venom. He began to thrash around, bashing the hornet in the face with his elbow and then, managing to ignore some of the pain due to the huge rush of adrenaline, caved in the glorified bee's chest cavity with his bat.

To avoid falling into shock from the injury, Jay had to act quickly. He threw off his backpack and rummaged through to find a stimpak. His fingers met the cool glass of the syringe and brought it out of the bag, then he swiftly stabbed it into his leg, through a small cut in his trousers, and injected the liquid into him. If he was lucky, the stimpak would numb the wound, clot the blood, combat the venom and accelerate the healing time... If he was unlucky, it wouldn't work fast enough. The only effect that he could see for now was more adrenaline than he had ever felt in his life.

Daphne

Deciding that enough ammo had been eaten up, Daphne shoved the Luger into the back of her pants and grabbed her knives. "Their serrated edges," she thought. "will tear through the bastards' wings quite nicely."

Keeping this in mind, she began running at a hornet that was going after the cripple. It was fast, but she was just able to get close enough to leap forward and slash the wings from its body. It landed on the ground beside him, trying in vain to pierce his skin with its deadly stinger, but Daphne stopped it but shoved a blade in its eye.

She turned around, seeing a pair of small ones coming straight for her. She sheathed one knife, pulling out her Luger again, and fired five bullets into the insect's body. It fell, skidding forward in the dirt before laying still. The second, enraged by its brethren's death, buzzed towards her furiously, stinger bared. She tried to shoot, but just her luck; the gun needed to be reloaded. She didn't have time to reload. It would be on her by the time she opened her bag. Knowing what she had to do, she dropped her things and ran at it head on, dual blades ready to slice.

She came so close to death. Slow, agonizing death...she was so close that she could see the fury in its gaze turn to pain as its head detached itself from its body. Taking a moment to breath, she walked back to her stuff, pulling out another clip and reloading the gun. "Damn.."

In the corner of her eye, she saw Jay get taken down by one of the hornets. Her mouth thinned, forming a grim line. He acted quickly, and was certainly smart. He didn't wait around until he was already dying to give himself the stimpak. Knowing that, even with the stimpak, he'd be out of sorts, she ran across the hornet-littered ground to his side. "Jay, I've got your back." She smiled slightly, but secretly doubted he'd survive. Still, he was kind to her. Better to protect him that have him for apart by giant bugs.

Annalise Fredricks

Anna continued firing and occassionally taking down hornets from her posistion, the rest doing an excellent job at keeping them distracted by being as loud and obnoxious as possible. When a hornet mysteriously fell to the ground without exploding violently, that was probably Anna. Either that or it just kinda spontaneously died. After a bit a thought occured to her..she had a Pip-Boy..therefore she had a handy thing called V.A.T.S. So...why the hell was she aiming manually? She mentally facepalmed before bringing said V.A.T.S up on her Pip-Boy, targetting three hornets, and opening fire and killing all three in quick succession. She repeated this once more before barely dodging a hornet that came zooming out for her and illiciting a cry of shock as she did, guess it'd seen her.

Nevertheless her rifle wouldn't cut it for close range, thus she drew her ripper. She was built for range, not close combat, especually against this. Luckily it already seemed wounded, so it shouldn't be too difficult to kill. She was wrong. Almost immediately she was almost stabbed directly in the chest before she could blink, only managing to dodge death due to tripping. Instead of running and fighting, and probably dying, she holstered her ripper and ran towards the group at full tilt. "
Heeeellp! Please!" She shouted at them as she ran before inevitably tripping up the side of the hill and landing on her face. She moved to her back and started inching backwards up the hill as she tried to regain her footing. The hornet was rapidly approaching, it was unlikely she'd manage to get up and run more before it arrived to kill her. Thus, unless she got help, she was as good as dead.

Tess had an advantage none of the others had, she was made of metal it was a lot easier to kill things when they could only barely hurt you if they got you in a joint. So she simply was in the middle of the wasps slashing an cutting every one she could find as fast as she could, even discharging the eye laser twice. This did not make her invisible as despite how good things were going she was taking damage, movements slowed as servos cramped and wires were cut. Not to mention she was down to 50% power one the fusion core after the laser beams.

Nic mostly remained in the back taking pot shots at the hornets and killing one or two but more often than not she missed the erratically moving targets. She did know this was not hive numbers, though it seemed bigger than a scouting party, likely it was some kind of gathering group the area already having been scouted for whatever it was hornets wanted. This was just a hypothesis of course she only had minor evidence to support it and she wasn't goign to get more. The rest of the group did seem to be doing well enough likely it seemed that Tess would be wrong about the survival rate of the members.

Tes saw the girl that had ran towards the group and moved off to take out that hornet, while Nic might not exactly care abotu others prioritizing their survival Tess saw the numbers that a larger number of guns meant a larger probability of surviving. She quickly moved to the girl, or by her as the wasp was ready to attack and speared the abomination though the head, most of the other wasps had either gone after others, they would be find, or were dead.

Mary rushed to his side as well, not willing to let the only lead to his father just die. She put on her best concerned face as she approached him and knelt down by him. "You will OK mate, just need a little bit extra for the poison... I hope I still have some. "She said reaching her back looking for a few herbs she had. "Cone on were is it... "She muttered before finally taking out a small plastic only slightly filled with some dried leaves and other herbs."Here we are, it is going to hurt like hell but it is going to help. "She said taking what remained of the bags contents and rubbed on the wound, even going as far as pushing the herbs into the sound. She took bandages and covered the wound. "Hope it is not too late."

Anna had given up all hope, even if she was able to get up it would just stab her in the back. At that point she had her eyes wrenched shut and her arms over her face trembling in fear, not that her arms would do any good..but it was the thought that counted. She expected to die at any second. She knew it was a bad idea to come out here...but she was just too curious about what lied out here in the badlands. When death didn't come she slowly lowered her arms and peeked her eyes open to see an assaultron had speared the hornet. Most of said hornets also seemed to be dead too. She blinked in disbelief for a bit before slowly pushing herself off of the ground, half-tempted to hug Tess. Deciding against it she merely smiled at her, "
Thank you." She told her.

" You are welcome please retreat to Nic being on the front lines is dangerous" Tess said displaying a bit more free will than a simple factory made assultron, well the fast she wasn't killing everyone showed that much, but still most were very mechanical Tess was far more sentient. Once those instructions were given Tess moved back to killing the few remaining wasps, hopefully there would not be another wave as she was in need of repairs and she knew Nic couldn't move up and repair her till the threat was gone.

Nic watched and while she didn't exactly agree with saving the girl, well she couldn't blame Tess she would have done the same. Nic might protest or say she didn't aid people for free but when presented with someone in danger she couldn't help but help. It was an annoying issue that often caused problems but well if karma existed she wanted to remain on it's good side.

" Up here" Nic said waving to the girl just hoping she woudl just do as Tess woudl have instructed.

Ferrin had to keep from rolling her eyes or scoffing too hard when the loudmouth up and got himself stung after a bout of gloating. Part of her thought to just leave him, even as he healed, but another...

Her mind went back to the other Lac Corl and when they had first been put into service. So many women simply happy for a new lease on life. Their giddiness and over exuberance led to more deaths than she'd cared to admit, and it was never easy to see someone fail where you succeeded, nor to see them die because of said failure. A small part of her wanted to laugh at the fact that he reminded her of women, but it was lost to the fray as she put down yet another hornet.

Moving to the loudmouth's side along with another girl, she sank her spear into the ground before the loudmouth and drew her dagger, immediately turning to slash one of the hornets as it came too close.

"Enough playing, bite down, dig deep and start moving, or you will die. It isn't fair, it isn't nice, welcome to the life. Now use my spear as a crutch if you must, but get up and move you daft shit, or the next time I come back to you it's just going to be to get my spear back."

Spinning around the pair Ferrin intercepted a nearing hornet and cut it down after a neat parry of its stinger, doing her best to keep the fool loud mouth safe. She wasn't going to actually abandon him though. She wasn't going to lose another to the wastes. Not again.
