A bit of that would depend on how long its been since the battle that you Exalted and first met Renna. If it has been a while, I would think that I would have been able to build up a bit of a reputation with the merc unit from Renna's War and sword prowess.

I would think that he would have been found by some other Lunar and marked up only a short time ago, since Morrolan Exalted during the battle that he met Renna. So I suppose he may have heard of you, but it is less likely that you've heard of him.
Would you like them to know each other? I think we can reason it in pretty well.

For example

Her mentor would be far more likely to keep track of Lunars exalting nearby his territory. So when Hazel shares with him her new foretelling, he lets her know that she might have some Silver Pact friends in the area. A hero of the full moon has revealed himself, with a shape like his own.

If One-Tusk learned of Morrolans exaltation through the grape vine, then he would have heard about Renna too. Assuming Morrolans solar mate was there when he received his tattoos.


And in turn, Morrolan could have heard about some prominent figures in the area if he ever needed sanctuary. With one such figure being the wise One-Tusk and a circle of Lunars he has been training. As well as whatever we would want Morrolan to hear about Hazel.
 
I am liking this. We can have ourselves an established connection, with Renna and Morrolan trying to convince Hazel to 'free' herself of her demonic influence and turn back to the light.

I know John's not going to endorse bargaining with a demon for power. Though he would take time to study the demon and binding. Probably doing things specifically to make existence miserable for Erembor.

Also, I didn't think through his nationality/faction affiliation since I didn't have a great understanding at the time of writing. Looks like he's a Sassarin helot from the writeup I ended up with. Seeing a map would certainly help me get more perspective.

Definitely not a helot if his father owns a business and he inherited it. Helots are effectively slaves, and owning property is very rare. John seems merchant class by birth and he's not only literate but extremely well educated so he would have performed extremely well on the annual dream examinations throughout his life. At Intelligence 5, Lore 3, Occult 3 at the age of 24 I would be shocked if your character wasn't sent to Ain Soph Aur to learn sorcery - at the very least it was offered to him, and to turn it down would be absolutely scandalous. In a society that values academic achievement over all else, he would have been fast-tracked for the highest echelons of power. He would likely be a celebrity as a child prodigy, and he would likely have a prestigious position in the ministries or a laboratory by his age.

Perhaps you intentionally underperformed on the examinations for some reason? Hanama would be able to tell you were throwing the exams, and she would certainly attempt to convince you to try your best, but if you had a really strong reason not to want to excel even a Goddess may fail to persuade you.

Hmm, I'd rather not have John in the upper echelons of the Sassarin hierarchy. The meager sorcery he has is a tool to him the same as an ordinary skillet or knife, not what defines him in my eyes as it seems to define much of the higher caste of the Sassarin people. I wouldn't be surprised if his lack of dedication or respect to the art caused conflict between him and others. Even if he has the potential to be a peerless sorcerer one day, there's a lot of growth and discovery to experience first. Perhaps there's a better spot for him and the restaurant somewhere else.

Sorry if that doesn't help too much. I tend to be a bit scatterbrained. It probably shows with how many different things I've tried to set this character up for. This has helped me form a more solid understanding of who I want John to be though! I want him to be a character who savors the experience of discovery and creation both whether it be something small and ordinary, or vast and wondrous. I also want him to be someone who values the sincerity of his own pursuits and identity in a way that reminds others what life is really about. For that vision, I see him as having more humble origins than a regal sorcerer prince prior to the second breath.

Given that hazels soul hadn't been incarnated in a long time, id wager she would be very happy to see him. She would definitely let him study whatever he wants.

Back in the first age. When their exaltation were fresh. Hazel was a peerless rsnger, who could wield fire wands like an artist would a brush. A divine Annie Oakley.

But it was John who set her on the path of sorcery. His love and enthusiasm for magic and creation inspired in her a similar passion as he introduced her to the wonders of the arcane. He was her master, and she was his apprentice. She learned everything from him, and pushed him to greater heights of his divine calling.

They grew close, so very close, and would have grown closer still, Yet they lost each other at the Usurpation.

While death is normally no boundary for such mates, their souls have not met since. Hazels soul had not entered creation again until now.

Them meeting now would carry the weight of not seeing a loved one in literal ages. Having been separated for that long.

Regardless of what they remember, Hazel would still John as her sagely and loving master. Yet while nature of the bond remained, of Master and Apprentice, their roles are reversed.

The apprentice, in her horror, realizes that she her having more time as an Exalt means she knows more than him. And she has to impart her knowledge onto her Master. Help him catch up and grow.

John, lol I'm sure John wouldn't mind at all. I think he would quite enjoy to learn everything all over again. The thrill and wonder of discovering things again for the first time. Taking his time and enjoying being a student, while Hazel is frantic and trying push him along so she is no longer his teacher (it isn't right!). And of course during this they begin to rekindle the passions for each other they once had.






Also! I found a lunar charm that would let Hazel cure herself of her wyld affliction! However it requires essence 3 and 3 particular charms, two of which are related to medicine and healing.
 
It will be a while before we hit Essence 3. I think it is at 125 xp. It would be nice to have the game go that long, though.

Normally, yes. But here xp is a bit different.

  • Bounties on narrative goals. You can accept example goals I toss out, or propose your own. This is the 'main plot'. (3 Regular XP per obstacle overcome)
  • Awards you give each other for helping to satisfy your Flags. These you set. This is your character's personal arc. (2 Special XP per award)
  • Accepting Compels proposed by others. (2 Special XP per Compel accepted)

Rather than a small chunk here and there from the ST, we have more impus in it. And we can help each other earn more xp. With the theme being we reward xp to others rather than seeking it on our own.

For example, I help you achieve your flags so I can get you xp through your narrative goals. I throw compels for you to overcome so you can get extra xp. During this, you take note of those that help you with your flag and ask ST to award them.


For example: Hazel spends every day summoning an elemental and sending them to Renna. When she has summoned enough to be considered a battlegroup, or enough that it would meaningfully affect the performance of Renna's army. This helps Renna get closer to a hypothetical flag of "building a grand army". Because you feel this helped, you see to awarding me 2xp.

You know Hazel and John are trying to build arcane structures to help their work. So you use that upgraded army to secure us materials, a location, a demense, or even as a workforce to help it go faster. I give you 2xp.

Psychie proposes a compel to the both of us. "Hazel and Renna are both super stubborn. [X] happens and they blame each other for it, getting into fights and arguments and spite each other as they work together in this."

We both accept and receive the 2xp from accepting it.


Not only are we giving each other awards, but as we complete our own objectives we get more. The more we help each other the more we get. Encouraging and incentivizing, not just helping and engaging with other char, but also knowing them and what their players would like to do with them.

This could give us a steady, if not quicker, stream of xp than 4 or so xp every couple weeks or so.





However, I'm not sure if Special Xp, as mentioned, counts towards essence growth. Or if it just replaces Lunar/Solar xp.
 
I've edited my character sheet. Will I be okay to lead my own Faqari clan with Influence 3 (the rating for tribal leaders given by the book)? Also assuming I should take Command 4 (up to 1,000 soldiers), so that I have enough warriors to protect 5,000 people.

Also, I'm assuming that Flametongue is the main language used in this area, yes? And are there any that it wouldn't hurt to know?

Currently? I'm not sure Solars automatically recognize their bondmate on sight as a Lunar would. John would be finding the experience of Exaltation to be overwhelming with Hazel likely being the one to give him perspective and answers on things assuming she doesn't recoil from the thought of the bond. Depending on how much of a mental co-mingling there is between Hazel and Erembor, the demon could find being pulled towards a Solar to be a repulsive experience. Then again, it might be dramatic for Erembor to imply she knows things about John and Hazel's past in order to manipulate them. How much truth she shares versus convenient fabrications could be a source of drama. As could John and Hazel's confidence in their ability to identify it.

For John's part, he'd receive Hazel very warmly, if highly skeptical of Erembor. I'd think the existence of the bond itself would encourage a close friendship or romance to form. If it's the latter, that may be more fun to develop in play rather than as backstory. Rivalry doesn't make as much sense to me, as I stated previously, John doesn't see himself as a "Sorcerer" he sees himself as simply John. Should we reach Essence 5 and John achieve Solar Sorcery, however, we'd have to see if Hazel still wants to reach heights above the Solars in her art. E5 is a very long ways away though.

That's awesome. I don't recall the specific charms you're referring to, but that sounds like a natural progression to me. If you'd like we could play the examination and research as a sort of training time in and of itself to discover the cure.

Hazel/John meeting

I think they would have had an unfolding romantic bond, a developing that had not yet reached full bloom when they died in the Usurpation. And that yearning cemented their bond.

That could lead to why John feels such a strong tie of protective Ness towards Hazel, even if he doesn't quite understand why yet.

And she would most certainly help ease John into his new exaltation.

She won't recoil from it. If anything she will embrace the bond. In "Lunar Fury" she was pretty insistent on the idea that the role of Lunars was to protect creation until the Solars return. As well as to guide new Solars to fulfill the destiny of leading creation.

Learning she has a mate, she will doubtlessly give him all the support she can to that end. She may not understand the history that she and John had, but the feelings would be clear to her. And if John doesn't feel the bond right away, that's fine too. She will help him with that too.

Now! It is important to keep in mind that as reckless as running around with a third circle demon inside you is... Hazel isn't stupid. She would be more than aware of the dangers of the situation. Given her knowledge of occult, demons, and first hand experience, it is likely she knows this better than anyone else present.

And there is a two layered protection as well.

1st. It wasnt JUST a seal that Hazel performed. But bound Erembour as if she summoned her. While even that is risky and dangerous, it does grant Hazel some degree of control over and protection from Erembour. The demon isn't running around buck wild inside of Hazel.

2nd! Even summoned and under her control, Hazel would never risk letting Erembour walk creation even under her control. She sealed Erembour away using herself as a prison. Erembour isn't just in a cage, but in a cage while being chained to the wall.

While it is not mentioned in the Third Circle Demon summoning spell. IF it works the same as first or second circle summoning, then Hazel may only have a year and a day before her control over Erembour wanes. While she may be still sealed, it might lead to a rougher time for Hazel in keeping her under control.

Lol though Hazel will try to keep others from antagonizing Erembour. Not just because Hazel will be the one she takes it out on. Though, the mental link may work both ways. Just as Erembour affects Hazel, Hazel might be affecting John. And that could mean that Erembour just might think John is kinda cute too.

I actually had that thought as well! I think that could make a lot of sense. Could be how they met, her coming to him to make her a fine weapon. And everything kicked off from there.

Of all the artifacts she could have chosen from in this life, it was that subconscious attachment to her mate that lead her to choosing and keeping it, and being as proud of it as she is.

Let's make that happen.

And she most certainly would be interested in getting more. Especially anything to aid with sorcery. Or something to protect her. She currently has no armor. And speaking of crafting, Hazel may be able to John with the magical aspects of crafting to give him an assist bonus or something. And she know a good bit about geomancy so could help him plan and work with manses too.





Cure for the Wyld
I think that could be a fun little arc to make. Gives them things to study and learn together. I think it would be a fun thing to play out. Not just for that, I think we can think of other things that train us for things as well.

That could definitely come about. Hazel will definitely want to press Atusa to collect nearby demense and manse. And would advise on aiming for as points of interest should we conquer other clan territories.

We could get ourselves a nice collection hearthstones that way. And with John building manses, I'm sure we might even come up with a way to make some too. John and Hazel do both have specialties in geomancy, and combined skills to make use of them.

And we will.most definitely need you. Given the high prominence of Sorcerers in this land, i can imagine demense and manses being quite coveted. I'd wager most have already been discovered, and we won't be getting them without contest.

It wouldn't be completely obvious antagonism per se. It would be thinly veiled in the pursuit of science. It's good to know what kind of reagents dark spawn disdain. For innocent applications of course! I mean how effective are sunflower seeds in a seed and salt warding? What kind of effect would eating it have on a malicious spirit? In what dosage? Would it impact the flavor experience? Do sundried foods have similar residual energy that disturb darkened chakras? Such knowledge could arguably be valuable if one found themself in the crosshairs of a disagreeable Sassarin summoner. Even if that knowledge raised Erembor's I-can't-believe-its-not-blood pressure.

All the more fun when his research notes are inevitably uncovered.

I was also considering some kind of barding or special saddle for the unicorn. At its final form, I'd hope I could achieve either artifact armor grade protection for the Unicorn along with shoes that could let Asha run on the wind or water or some enchanted equipment that allows for more mobility options.

Since Morollan has intimacies for protecting innocents, we'll have to find a way to get him a Stone of Innocents Protection as well.
