[Haku]

Haku is very skeptical, "While you did make some improvements, I don't think you can handle Gifted combat just yet. Although..."
She peruses through the BRB app, finally stopping on one request titled 'Help! Too many slimes and no crops left!'. Perfect. Alex wouldn't die horribly and he'd have a chance to see some of the action he wanted.

"Hey Alex, I sent you a friend request on BRB. If you accept it, I can add you to my party so we can do the request together. We can hunt slimes."

I clicked the accept button, before freezing.

"Slimes?"

I wasn't sure I had heard correctly, because I could swear that she said slimes.

"Did you say slimes?"

Am I in Dragon Quest all of sudden?

Lexa Gilliam

It didn't take long to complete the registration process, being relatively straightforward. It was actually quite impressive how organised and efficient they were here, although it made sense, given that they likely had to process a heck a lot of people every day. Gifted weren't exactly getting any rarer.

Soon enough, Lexa had an ID card in her hands. It was quite plain and formal, being much more pragmatic than fancy. She appreciate it - looks didn't really mean anything. Unless they got in the way of reality, at which point they were just annoying.

"Your room is number... 217," the receptionist added, "It's programmed into your ID card, so just swipe it to get inside when you're ready."

Lexa thanked the receptionist, before leaving. She wasn't too sure what she wanted to do next, now that she was officially staying here. She didn't need to visit her room, seeing as she hadn't really brought anything with her. Maybe she should get something to eat? It had been a long journey...

What... "What was that?"

I was just finding my way to Bobert's Bread, I found the sign, someone stepped out and.... was swallowed by a... swirly thingy. And nobody did anything....

Maybe it was normal? Or that guys Gift, or something? Well... When in Rome... Still freaked out though...

Hesitantly going near the door to Bobert's Bread, I tiptoe through the entrance.... Nothing happened. Phew. Looking around I see a nice little homey cafe sort of thing. It was welcoming and warming. Walking through all the warm colors I reach the display case, filled with pastries and food I couldn't help but want to try. I'll have to come back here. Going to the cashier, I ordered some croissants for both Ayane and Aya-had to feed both-and then went and sat down at two of the comfy chairs they had at a coffee table.

Yum! This is SO good. Gah, I definitely have to do something for Esther! I just sit there and relax, eating my croissants.

A very sudden dreamrift swallows the mathematician whole, not leaving even a strand of hair from where they were standing. Onlookers were either surprised then shrugged or asking their friends on what the hell just happened. For Miyarkus, this means that going anywhere to lead 'em to the factions would be pointless. He's only ever seen this twice before, he knows whats up but he does get really weary about them. He heads on back to the bakery to sit down and get comfortable, kind of irritated that when he wasn't lazy, something still doesn't happen. Maybe he should really earn some more money. Maybe.

Apparently, some youngsters took the chair he was sitting on earlier. A bit disgruntled, he chalks it up and heads for the seats nearest that one instead. A few moments after thinking in to it, he opens up his Z-Watch to browse some more, or even call a number of his limited acquaintances to see where he can hang out instead.

Lexa didn't have any issues finding the cafeteria, signs clearly marking that it was on the second floor of the building. Her stomach growled as she scaled the stairs. Ugh. It really had been a while...

The system here seemed enough - grab a tray, a plate, and start throwing food on. Easy. And that's exactly whats she did. To an observer, it may have appeared that she was picking out food at random, spanning multiple different styles and cuisines, piling it onto her plate. The truth, however, that she wasn't really picking food at all, instead literally just trying to get as much as possible. The more she ate of this, the less... other things she would eat.

Before she finished, however, she glanced over her shoulder, checking to see if anyone was watching her. Satisfied that no-one was paying close attention, she added a couple of extra empty plates to her tray, stacking them alongside her main meal. She really couldn't help herself.

The cafeteria was quite full, which made sense given the new influx of people that had just entered the town. As such, finding a free space actually took a little while, but she eventually settled on a seat next to two women, one brown-haired and the other black-haired, who were in conversation which each other.

She went to sit down, pulling the chair out. "Mind if I sit here?", she asked, although she was already starting to set her tray down.

Lacey Banks
“Alright, I was pretty worried for a second there though.” Lacey said quickly trying to move on, she had been aware of Dan’s existence for barely any time and yet she had already somehow managed to scare him and almost kill him, probably several times. She imagined neither she nor he wanted to dwell on it for any longer.

“And good, I really didn’t think leaving you out here was a good idea anyway.” Lacey said picking up the boy again, extremely carefully, and putting him in the palm of her hand. “Now I am going to have to put you somewhere where you’re safe. I don’t have any pockets, and I guess I don’t really have to stop holding you in my hand either. But I don’t know how comfortable that would be for you. Any suggestions?” She asked, moving her hand up slowly to her ear. Lacey intended to get moving as soon as possible, so out of paranoia, she checked her shoe quickly for anything else inside it before finally putting it back on and walking out of the back of the building to the entrance of it instead.

Finally, free food. Lacey could already taste how free it was just by looking at the building. She could feel how free her bedsheets were. She was still holding Dan up to her ear with one arm so, with her free one, she pushed one of the doors of the building open. Lacey was ready to apply, she was ready to jump through hoops the second she walked in and—

Queues. She had to queue first. A feeling of frustration and boredom not only set in her, but also became blatantly visible on her face as she witnessed the length of the queue in front of her. It wasn’t even that long, it was just that she really didn’t expect a queue for some reason, and she really didn’t like queuing.

“Okay Dan, well we might be here for a little while. There is a queue of like, four, maybe six people in front of us. Anyway, I can take this time to ask you a question. Will you also be registering for the factions or will you just be here with me just to watch me apply? I feel like your gift would be useful if you were able to find a way to reverse it. Maybe the people working here will have a way to help you out if we mention it or something? I don’t know. It’s up to you if you wanna join or not.” Lacey said mostly just trying to fill up the time with the sound of her voice. She tapped her foot on the ground at an increasingly quick rate with impatience as she saw only one person leave the queue after she had done saying those couple of sentences.

.....Is that a skeleton?

No.... I'm serious. There is a living skeleton. Right there. I guess... they're Gift is to... be a skeleton? Wait... Is it a guy? A girl? Do they even have a gender? I'm so confused.... Finishing up my croissants... I look at myself. Eye to eye I have a 'silent conversation' with myself to keep up appearances, then I look at the skeleton. Who was just browsing his watch.... Both bodies just staring at him.

Actually... wouldn't that be creepy?

As he surfed quietly, apparently someone calls in to contact Miyarkus. It's an old antique store owner he used to do some requests for. A luxurious store at that. Trinkets, odds and ends, that sort of thing... Myarkus accepts the call and holds the Z-Watch nearer to his skull. A loud, booming voice almost doesn't let him require for him to hold it nearer.

"Miyarkus! Thanks goodness someone's available, I mean, are you?!" the voice spoke, almost enough for anyone near enough to hear ( 431101134 431101134 ).

"Uh, yeah, but--"

"Good! I've barricaded the house down to keep it from leaving at least the basement! Another good-for-nuthin' rookie is already down there trying to be a hero, and they still haven't come up yet since who-knows-when, then I think he's--"

Miyarkus tries to listen in but his eye holes meet those of two young girls staring at him... as if straight to his soul. Not precisely, but they're still staring.

"--and I bet they just wanted to look heroic and I can't trust anyone to do it now! You'll have to do this quickly or else I'll quickly put this up on the ReQuest Board! GET TO IT!"

There was a quick slam on the other end. He puts down his wrist, sighed, but decided if these two needed something before he got up.

"Look, I don't have a lot of money, but did you need anything? I'm kind of busy." He asked to his neighboring table of twins. He looks around to see if they have parents, but all he sees still are students, not even adults are talking over the counter for some pastry.

Dan Ryder

He felt a little safer now that he was in Lacey's palm, sitting down so as to avoid any more accidents. This was... actually something of an uncomfortable experience. As it one thing standing on an inanimate shoe, but it was quite another to actually be touching another person's skin. At this size, the natural warmth of her hand seemed to radiate off of it, which was slightly unpleasant, although naturally not quite as bad as where he'd been only a moment ago.

He racked his brain as they she walked towards the entrance of the building, trying to think anything that would be better, without putting him in danger. "NO, I CAN'T REALLY THINK OF ANYTHING, UNLESS YOU'VE GOT A BAG OR SOMETHING..."

Dan was largely ambivalent to the size of the queue - the thought of registering wasn't something that even crossed his mind, instead pretty much assuming he'd continue his usual scavenging lifestyle. Even now that he was here, in the building, it didn't occur to him until Lacey brought it up. It was a good idea, actually...

"I MEAN, I GUESS I CAN TRY. WOULDN'T HURT TO ASK, RIGHT?"

By this point, Lacey had entirely dropped the whispering from earlier, now just speaking at full volume. This was slightly overwhelming for Dan, but he didn't say anything, just wanting to be polite to the person who was effectively looking after him at this point. That said... it must have looked odd to anyone who was around. Aside from her talking, the only sound he could really hear was a rhythmic tapping sound from down low. Peering through her fingers, he could see her boot smacking up and down. He shuddered involuntarily - if things had gone slightly differently, he could've still been in there.

Another thought occurred to him.

"BY THE WAY... WHAT'S YOUR GIFT? IF YOU, UH, DON'T MIND ME ASKING."

Whoa. Skeleton dude's a Hero. Cool. Oh... He asked me a question. Right, yeah, yeah, I should answer! But what should I ask? Their gender? Wouldn't that be rude? Or what he's doing? He looks like he's in a hurry! I should hurry! But what should I ask? What should I say? I have to say something! Ah! What do I-

"What's your gender?-"

"-Do you need any help there?"

Oh. My. Goodness. I just asked two questions at the same time! Starting to sweat, I dare not to move. How embarrassing! I have to stay calm! Nothing to embarrass me more! I decide to keep calm faces and just continue to stare like normal... Or what I was doing earlier, anyway. No reason to look like I messed up! It was meant to happen! I'm cool, I look like I meant to do that. No embarrassment for me. Phew.

Oh. And he sounds like a guy. So that first question is pointless.... hopefully he doesn't think I'm weird by asking something I already know.

"...?"

Miyarkus didn't expect their assistance or their first question. For a moment, his flabbergasted stated cost him precious seconds.

"Oh, I'm a guy, and I'm fine, and... did you hear what I was saying? You two seem relatively confident." Miyarkus said, cutting to the chase. Since everyone in Derika was Gifted (as far as he knew), he took a guess these girls were... good? He's not sure what category of plenty of gifts they might have, though, and he had no time to guess. Miyarkus stands up, shifted his gear a bit, and begins to leave the bakery. The place isn't far, but he's sure he should go ASAP.

He up and left, but I followed him. I dumped by trash, of course, and walked behind him. Flanking him, even. He sounds like he's doing something cool! I wan't to do something like that. Save people and stuff! Maybe if I ask again he will let me come. I'm sure I can handle a thug or two! I mean, what could possibly be that bad in an awesome place like this? Plus, I'll get some experience! With a more experience person by my side! Ahaha, yeah. Plus, if I show I can do hero things, the Factions would have to let me join, no chance of not accepting me. Then I get a free place to sleep! And food! And a job! It's a perfect plan.

"I'm sure we can handle ourselves. Where are we going, anyway?" Ayane said, as if he had already accepted. If he truly refuses me staying, I guess I'll go, but there's no harm in trying again, yeah? Grabbing the hair ties from off of Aya, I tie up my shoulder length hair. Aya got a bun, Ayane a pony-tail. Wouldn't want my hair getting in the way, after all.

Miyarkus headed towards his left once he left Bobert's. The place of interest is a secure but nearly unknown antique shop. Whilst unknown, its stuff is always a treasure and has been bought to be outsourced as some special relics and artifacts, whether or not they can do anything or just pretty decorations, and thus are unknown since no one outside of these outsourcing businesses heard of 'em.

It's four blocks away from Bobert's, and Miyarkus performs a walk-run fashion, where he appears to be walking, but his cloak hide his legs that take long and swift strides. He reaches it in two minutes tops and opens the door. All this time he was very intent and didn't notice anything, even when stepping on a stray cat's tail.

The rundown-looking building comes into view sandwiched between other more professional structures. Miyarkus was about to open the door when someone from inside saw him at their window and opened the door quickly. A man with a thick beard and almost twice his height rushes out to shake his hand. This almost comically made Miyarkus jump up and down. Before he could reply, the man immediately speaks.

"Good thing you were quick... and you brought some people with you! You're always prepared!" they said and beckons the twins to come, as Miyarkus is held by huge hands almost holding his whole arm, trying to not stumble as he is forcefully dragged inside. While that was happening, he was slightly befuddled as to what pair the store owner was referring to as he realizes that the twins were actually following him. He didn't notice them as he was relatively tall and weren't apparent to his peripheral vision. Very much surprised, he couldn't utter a word before he was dragged inside. Apparently, the store believes all three were working together, much to Miyarkus' decision on the matter.

Normally I'd leave task of answering to anybody else, in this case Vivian, but still riding the high on getting a job (or reserving one rather...) I take the initiative and cheerfully reply to the new arrival, "Feel free!" Feeling like getting something sweet was in order, I excuse myself to get a big helping of Red Velvet Cake, earning a raised eyebrow from the next person to grab a slice, to which I gave a shrug in reply. Settling back down at the table, I give a smile to woman who joined us and introduced myself, "Hey there. Name's Ayesha, this is Vivian. Nice to meet you."

Ayane Katou-

Walking along his sides... I believe the man on the watch called him... Marikus? Markus? I can't remember. Eh, okay. So, walking along his sides he didn't answer me. I soon noticed that he wasn't paying attention to anyone and I apologized to people he ran into. Well, if he can't say 'yes', then I guess he can't say 'no' either. We end up at an old shop, and Mar... uh.... Mar paused in his fast pace-which was a little fast for my normal fast walk-and a huge-and I mean huge-guy came out. He shook Mar's hand very thoroughly.

"Good thing you were quick... and you brought some people with you! You're always prepared!" He said, quickly taking us inside. Looking at Mar I notice he seems shocked... Like he didn't know I was there. Ahehe... okay. Well, too late to say 'no' now.

Vivian gives the newcomer a greeting when she sits down and excuses herself to get some soup. She had finished her chicken, vegetables, and rice and wanted something else to top it off. Humming to herself, she browses her options and looks at the actual soup itself by lifting up the metal lids. Vivian decides on the hot and sour soup and scoops a little bit of green onion to sprinkle on top.

Returning to her previous spot, she puts her soup down and addresses the new arrival properly, "Like Ayesha has already said, I'm Vivian. What's your name?"

I turned towards the new voice and found what could be called a slimegirl by a fairly sizable population on the internet.

It was stranger in real life than on a computer screen.

Lexa Gilliam

Lexa is somewhat taken aback by the overwhelming friendliness of the pair, being used to a much less sociable world. Did they... want something from her? She eyed them suspiciously as they took turns to get more food. What was their deal?

"Um... Lexa. My name's Lexa." She grabbed a spoon, scooping up a large chunk of mashed potato, and stuffed it in her mouth. "It's, uh, nice to meet you to," she continued, mouth somewhat full.

A moment passed in silence, with her unsure what to say next. It was odd talking to strangers like this, without any real direction or ulterior motive. It just wasn't a situation she found herself in very often.

CRUNCH!

She bit down slightly too hard, chewing up the entire head of the spoon. She pulled out the remaining stump, placing it down next to her plate, trying to act like nothing had happened. But on the inside, her body was already absorbing the new metal, reinforcing her muscles and bones with the material. Non-nonchalantly, she picked up a fork instead, and continued her meal.

"So... you guys new to this place too?"

It was all happening a bit too fast.

The store owner is now pushing Miyarkus below a hatch, down a ladder, as Miyarkus tries to argue.

"Wait just a minute! Those two--"

"--are adorable, I know! They must have the impressive gift to match, I assume?" and then they pretty much cover the hatch in front of Miyarkus' face, before the store owner turns to the two.

"Now, I'll just get a few weapons for you two to use. Actually, they're just darts that will put the ghost to sleep. Well, as long as it's physical, at least. I'll leave you three to incapacitate it, otherwise. Mark is already climbing down to the basement as we speak..."

He hands the young ladies a small, black plastic pistol with a needle-head dart loaded, one for each of them. The store owner doesn't give them more darts, so it's safe to say that he relies on both of them on not missing the shot.

"Again, thanks for helping me out. Go down this hatch and ladder, and Mark will guide you through. He knows this place well. Now, excuse me as I attend to some calls; I was really busy when something broke out downstairs." the store owner said and with that the man moves to another room. They can see a wooden hatch on the floor, where one can descend to the depths.

"Look... it's too late for both of you to leave." Miyarkus said as he pops out of the hatch. Apparently, he fell down due to the store owner basically dropping him down there.

"... what are your names and what can you do?" Miyarkus asked, already going down the long ladder. It would take a minute before they reach the basement.

“Based off that look you must be new here. So yeah, don't stomp on them, it might work on some of them, sometimes, but you're more likely to lose a shoe. Physical based attacks aren't the best, you practically have to run one through a blender to kill it most of the time, but if they're cored you might get lucky. Fire works pretty well on most of them, except for the ones that it really, really doesn't.” She thinks for a moment, “Honestly if the request doesn't require you kill them luring them off somewhere else will probably be the easiest option.”
