Fantasy Department of Defense Against the Supernatural

Vortigas snarled in delight, as Carnifex revealed his feral form. The poltergeist was in for something terrible, now that he was material. That meant Carnifex could feed on him, make him feel pain. If he was fast enough. Vortigas was almost praying for his brother do to the killing faster. He knew a shitton of agents with various abilities were coming for them, but that wasn't his reason. He just wanted not to be buried deep under the rubble of the now-falling apart building. Whipping his eyes around the room, Vortigas decided for a new target..Sanja. She seemed frail enough, and him being a hollow allowed him to nullify some of the magic she used. That depends on what magic she would choose to hurl at him. God, let it be not fire. With those thoughts, the hollow opened his mouth menacingly and with a two great leaps closed-in on Sanja, snakes pouring out of his mouth as he enterd his own feral form. ''Run...run..little one'' he said with a chilling tone as his eyes started to glow. He got closer and closer to Sanja.

@Sleipnir

Justin and William were almost at the same floor, but they still ran into a crapload of traps. One more floor, and they would be in the fight..

Bael still couldn't conjure fear even when facing this feral form. He moved to fight but he felt something grab his leg and a startled look crossed his face as suddenly, he dropped straight down into the floor.

He appeared several yards away, gasping and turning sharply to find Galleytrot had pulled him away. Bael looked up, seeing Vortigas closing on Sanja, who was backing up from him. "No!" There was a flash and Bael was in between them, shoving Sanja back behind him as he grabbed his knife, the blade glowing as he slashed out at the hollow.

Sanja, shocked by Bael's abrupt intervention, frowned as the knife. She could sense the power it held was pure light and recalled then that Bael had worked with a light. He didn't seem to understand it yet, but one thing was becoming more and more clear to the spirit Mage: while he was certainly an intimidating and abnormally strong example of one, Bael was not just a poltergeist.

Piper looked up, her attention and fury pulled away from Mark's murder by the building begining to crumble. However, she seemed more like this was a mild irritation than an actual threat. She stood still a moment, considering her options and possible moves. This wasn't a pleasant situation — she was guessing the organ on the ground belonged to the beast with a hole in it, implying straight physical force would not help her.

Luke's last 2 bots were destroyed as debris from the explosion in the building crushed them. He summoned 3 more. The recon bot and 2 assault bots. Another

Thermal scan. Some of the wires were dead now, but it still posed a great hazard. The recon bot made it inside the building. "Amplify." Luke said. The bot released a huge wave. It was completely harmless. "We need to take out this power. We've lost 2 agents to these wires already." The waves amplified his voice. Everyone could hear it.

Another scan revealed that the building had about a good 2 minutes before it collapsed

The 2 assault bots made it to where Carnifex was. He was fucking hideous. The bots blasted a flurry of bullets at Carnifex. They flew around pretty fast. With Luke controlling 1 with magic and the other with the laptop, he had full control of both. the recon bot came in a little after, and released a radar wave. It assisted Luke's control of the Assault bots. Luke didn't exactly give the bots long to live, but he should be able to cause SOME damage with it. these bots would be light work to kill, but not exactly easy

The building shook as Evan made it to the brawl. Evan fell. "Shit." he said. It was chaotic. He saw the suspect identified as Vortigas. He was equipped with his Frost Wadcutter rounds. These put emphasis on the magic inside, instead of the physical bullet. It released the most Liquid Nitrogen and Ice Magic. It'd freeze whatever he hit. He dashed towards the chaos with Sanja and the Poltergeist, blasting a couple of shots at the suspect. Evan had only a clue of what he was dealing with, but in his mind, it was nothing a well placed bullet couldn't kill

@Elias

Carnifex howled in rage as the assault bots attacked him. The pain was nullified of course, the transformation had at least taken care of that, but it was extremely annoying. Turning to the first bot Carnifex shot a tendril out and latched onto the machine. It strained against him as he pulled it closer, his tendrils wrapping around the turrets before ripping them off. With a quick double check Carnifex spun around, slinging the first assault bot into the second, causing one to impale on a piece of pipe sticking out of the wall and the other to sail off, crashing somewhere in the distance. At least one of the bots was down, the second one being out of the fight for now, giving Carnifex time to focus on the agents.

The Spirit Mage....

The voice again, this time calling his attention to Sanja. She had been Vortigas target before Bael interfered, and she had been the one that saved Bael earlier. Carnifex growled as he climbed up the wall behind the Mage. When he was in range Carnifex leaped towards Sanja, catching her with a tendril mid jump, and dragging her to the floor below. "You interfered with my fight once, now your all mine!" Carnifex howled as he ran towards her, his hand forming into a blade as he raised it above his head before plunging it towards Sanja's stomach.

@Elias @Sleipnir @Kylesar1

Bael did not exactly want to deal with both at once, and turned his head slightly, realizing that Carnifex was behind them, but he then felt Sanja turn sharply and push her back against his. She realized she had very little room to maneuver around Carnifex with Bael fighting Vortigas at her back. She deflected the blade with a shield of the dreamscape, immediately retaliating with a blast of Aether Magic. She was certain her two nether spells would not help her here. "Bael — your knife!" She held out her hand but when she took it, it had gone dark. "...Nevermind." She sounded bewildered, but turned her focus back onto Carnifex, glancing down near her repeatedly. After aiming another bright pulse of magic at him trying to gain some space, she dropped to the floor, pulling something through from the Dreamscape: Her Wolf, who was immediately prepared to fight.

Piper watched the ceiling a moment, then turned toward Bael and Sanja, suddenly feeling a rush of pride that that girl was her intern. "Sanja, we need to get out of here!" She yelled. She looked up again, aware that the building was becoming more and more unstable.

"Got anything better?" Bael asked Sanja, leaning back to jam a kick into Vortigas's stomach, aiming to cut him with the blade in the side of he went to retaliate against the kick. "The wolf is great, but honestly."

"I have a Wyrm," she offered.

"Get him. That's a good bet."

"He isn't right here right now; I need room to get him!" Sanja pointed out. "Not a luxury I have with Venom here!"

Carnifex stopped for a moment and looked around, taking note of the agents that were in the building, and also of the structure and stability of the room. The whole interior complex was shaking now, and parts of it had begun to crumble and fall. Turning his attention back to the fight, Carnifex dodged the spirit wolf as it lunged, grabbing it mid jump, glyph in hand, and tossed it away. Damn them, this is just a pain. Suddenly, an idea. The Soul-Stone. Carnifex shifted back into his normal form and pulled out the obsidian stone. He could feel it vibrating, and once he phased slightly into the Spirit world he could hear the souls inside it crying out. It was time to finally see what the stone could do.

Carnifex clutched the stone tightly and crushed it with surprising ease, releasing the souls within. Carnifex suddenly felt something tear in his chest, watched as blood splattered out as a perfect circle formed in the center of his chest. The souls that were released dove into this hole, which had formed a small portal. Carnifex could feel each soul as he moved into him, filling his body with power. These were not ordinary souls. They were enhanced somehow, maybe allowed to feed on living beings at some point. As the last soul was absorbed, Carnifex felt his body breaking down. He found himself making a noise, something between an agonizing scream and maniacal laughter, as he body began to change. A white substance spewed out of the hole in his chest, sliding over his body like it had a mind of it's own. His mask began to change, forming a mouth full of jagged canines, the eye sockets taking shifting into a more animal-like appearance. His body, too, took on a new form. The white ooze covered his whole body now. Three tails had formed from his spine, and his whole body took on a more beast like persona. Blade-like projections stuck out from his arms and randomly over his body. Two horns jutted out from his temples, coming out in front of his face at sharp angles. Last but not least, two eyes formed inside the hollow sockets of his mask. Two piercing yellow circles with black centers.

Carnifex turned back to Sanja and howled, shaking the floor. Carnifex stood up and suddenly realized that his feet were levitating about ten inches off the ground. Not wasting a moment, he dashed forward with new found speed and slashed, this time aiming for her throat.

@Elias @Sleipnir @Kylesar1

Vortigas was amazed, seeing what the stone did to his brother. Such power, so much ferocity, seemed to flow throw Carnifex as Vortigas looked at him. Clutching his stone from his pocket, Vortigas was about to activate it, but then he refrained, and clutched it back. Another time. The building was crumbling anyway, so Carnifex would only be able to make his carnage for a few moments, then after they should make their escape. They should live for another time. Vortigas's thoughts were interrupted, as he was hit by a huge man with what seemed like tentacles sprouting from his back. William surged forward with huge strength, lifting Vortigas through the air and throwing him across the building. Vortigas hit a wall violently, and more organs drippled through his torso hole. He was feeling like shit, but he still had to fight. Trying to get up, he was yanked back by another one, who was flying. Justin. Feeling pulled higher and higher, Vortigas was lifted in mid-air. Looking around he noticed with bewilderment that he was in mid-air. The nephilim lifted him with great speed, and then let Vortigas fall from the highest point.

.......

.........

.......

Air whoosed in Vortigas ears as he was falling. Feeling the air pressure grabbing at him, the wind rippling through his ears. Then he hit the ground full-body, and the whole world went black.

(No he's not dead, I did this for him to live another time, and frankly because he couldn't do much more with the building crumbling. Now it's up for Carnifex to escape.)

@BookWyrm

Carnifex had left the Recon Bot alive. The feed showed Vortigas being tossed out the window. When he hit the ground, he didn't move, like he was unconscious. Luke got out the vehicle, and summoned a Restraint Bot. This was made to make arrests against those too strong or big or whatever for handcuffs. The bot casted a restraint spell on Vortigas. Luke had no idea if Vortigas was unconscious or not, so he said the arrest rites, and went to pick him up to throw him in the back of the vehicle.

@Elias

Evan saw Carnifex turn even more beastly. He slapped his pistols together and they turned into an AK47. Evan knew for a fact that this guy wouldn't be freezing anytime soon. "Fire Style: FMJ" The AK set on fire. He took to blasting at Carnifex at full force, ready for anything. His feet were set, ready to move. The bullets came out so hot they were white. Luckily, the guy was focused on not him

@BookWyrm

"Thank you!" Bael shouted as he reached back, grabbing Sanja's shoulder and flinging her to the floor out of the way. She landed very heavily, and Bael spun, taking her place. There was a flash of pure light energy and he, returning to his normal, apparitional form, raised his arms and prepared to take the strike if the light he couldn't control didn't stop the monster. It wouldn't kill him, that he knew — his weaknesses didn't include bleeding out. It would just hurt like hell.

Piper looked up, then yelled, "Sanja!" She looked up, too, realizing that at this point they couldn't get out in time.

She heaved herself up, holding one arm, and sped over to Piper. "Everyone over here!" Sanja yelled to the department agents, raising her arm and preparing.

William sighed loudly as he heard Piper call for retreat. The building was at it's lowest peak in structure right about now, and the place could come tearing on them in any minute. Heeding her call, he bolted for the exit. Standing outside, an idea hit him. Using some of the bigger tentacles he got, he wrapped them around the base of the building and grunted holding down the building. This was going to buy them 1 minute tops, but after that, they would all die...

(Vortigas is unconcious so I'll leave him at that)

Trundle said:
R'lyeh sat down next to the bear and Kitty sat next to him. "I don't know anything about myself. I woke up in this spot with Kitty sitting next to me. Who are you?" He said, wanting to see who this man was. "Friend? Or are you an enemy?"
Well I'm neither friend nor enemy. I'm more of a wanderer if you want to know. My name is Tristan Vexx, pleasure to make your acquaintance sir. Tristan realized this was probably a waste of time, but nonetheless he had to be patient. If you'd excuse me I'm going to contact a friend, he can help you more than I could. Without waiting for a response he took out his phone and called his brother Ethel about the giant. Ethel was intrigued and before Tristan ended the call Ethel asked what Tristan wanted in return. Of course Tristan wanted money so he replied calmly saying he could settle with $100 since he was feeling generous. Ethel went to the lobby of the department and waited, he knew he would need some help from some other detectives with this. I could use some help with something on the other end of town people. Anybody up for a retrieval? @anyone

The strike would have cut threw Sanjas neck, had Bael not intervened. Carnifex howled in frustration and pain from both Baels light energy and the fire ammunition. Finally, Carnifex beman focusing energy at the point between his horns. A dark orb of energy formed, growing in size from marble to bowling ball within a matter of seconds. Carnifex howled again as the orb engulfed his body. The orb began to pulse as its stability began to fail, the orb preparing to implode upon itself and level the building, and maybe even the whole block.

(Posted on my phone. I'll let the agents retreat, so someone else can post the explosion happening)

Piper grabbed William by the arm, dragging him close to the group. Sanja looked around, checking as the last of the team came close. She raised her good arm, cringing and hugging her left one to her stomach. "Bael!" She yelled out, and he looked at her. She gestured roughly with her head, and he teleported over to her shoulder. Looking up, one could see a dome of pale energy surrounded them.

This shield held as the explosion occurred and the building collapsed in a pandemonium. Piper cringed, but there was no damage to the remaining group. Silence finally fell, and she looked up, realizing Carnifex had taken down the whole complex. She looked over as Sanja dropped her other arm. "I — just... I need a... Just a second, please," she said absently, exhausted by her effort. She proceeded to, from a combination of stress, pain, and exhaustion, collapse, caught by Bael.

Piper turned, surveying the group to be sure there were no injuries. Then she turned away again, staring at the ground and clenching her jaw. She could then tell Galleytrot had come to her side. She didn't speak to him, but he did not stay silent. "...You did very well today, Piper," he told her quietly. The Black Dog's gaze traced the scenery, pausing on things no one else could see. "I... I'm afraid I must go now. It seems I have a job to do."

With this, the man shifted into a dog and disappeared promptly.

Amidst the ruin, Carnifex stood on wobbly legs. He had returned to his normal form, but he appeared wounded. The combined toll from aether magic, Baels light energy, and everything other damn injury, had worn on him. He turned to face the Department agents, glaring at them before laughing. "Come on Vortigas, lets get out of here."

Carnifex, upon not hearing a response, looked around the rubble. "Vortigas?" Suddenly his eyes were drawn to Luke and his bots, where they finally saw Vortigas laying unconscious and captive. "VORTIGAS!!" Carnifex went to charge before stopping. Suddenly a crack formed across his mask, about the same time he dropped to his knees. The toll was higher than he first thought. "Damn....damn it all.", he growled. Before the Department could move a blacked out van drove up and ten Order agents loaded to the teeth spilled out and circled Carnifex. As two began to drag him away, the others kept cover as they slowly backed towards the van. All of the agents wore black uniforms and balaclavas, making identifying them impossible. Soon they had loaded up and drove away. Carnifex, slowly losing consciousness, raised his arm and pointed to the rubble. "Vortigas...."

Bael was standing, staring at Sanja quietly, lost in thought. Something was slowly forming in his mind as he looked at this girl, who seemed so young — physically she was older than him but to Bael, that didn't seem right. As Carnifex sat in the rubble, before the agents surrounded him, Bael turned to him, pleasure creeping into him as he mourned their victory over his friend — Vortigas, he supposed his name was based on what Carnifex was yelling. He squared up to the beast and moved the unconscious spirit Mage up some, presenting her. "See this, ya tyst? She was your mistake." He then looked at Piper. Then back at Carnifex. So was she.

Piper made no attempt to stop the men. She didn't want to lost anyone else. Then she looked around again, taking a breath. She had to hold herself together, since Greyston was still out of commission and it was she that everyone here was following. It hurt. Badly. She didn't like what had happened today. But she knew that this was the best outcome they could have had — she wouldn't have been able to bear the thought of leaving a fellow agent to die, and she was glad he had at least been able to see that they didn't intend to. The message that would have been sent would have been extremely negative and not one the media needed to know about given recent events. However losses had been extremely light — three including Mark — compared to the other events recently. Bael had been impressive, a sight to behold — Sanja had done well turning him so fully against these two. In the end, she was certain the department had done more logistical damage to this strange organization than they had done to the department: She had one of their monsters. They had done no damage to the department, even though it pained her to realize that the lives lost were — in this fight — not important.

She grimaced, taking a breath. She turned to the group. "Right. Get that... Thing... To a cell immediately. I want it contained before it wakes up. Bael?" She turned to the poltergeist, who looked up and met her gaze. Piper looked surprised, almost approving. Somehow, Bael felt something positive; it hurt him. But at the same time, it felt good. "...You did well." She walked away at that, pausing beside William. "Thank you, William. I believe we would have lost at least Sanja without you; maybe more." Piper then walked on, gesturing to the rest of the team to follow.

Luke drank a Mountain Dew, calm as the guys came in and picked up Carnifex. Everyone was too worn to try and fight it, so they just let them go. Vortigas would be going into one of those Drain Cells, which scanned the body, and drained all magic and strength down to where they were just an average human. In other words, he wouldn't be escaping any time soon

Luke called out to everybody. "All right. Let's pack this shit up and go home. Its hot. This mission was only 33% successful. We captured one of the perps, one got away, and we couldn't quite save Mark." Luke knew things were far from over. With Vortigas captured, Carnifex has lost 5 of his fingers. He'd need Vortigas back if he wanted to go back full force. Luke summoned a bot to pick Vortigas up and toss him in the back of the vehicle, fully restrained.

Evan, disappointed in the outcome of this mission, slowly got in the Assault Vehicle and cranked it up, waiting for it to be loaded so they could head back to the Department. He couldn't figure out which bullets were needed to fight Carnifex. He wasn't effective in this mission

"Sirens and their large mouth," Adamus scoffed as he loomed over a fresh siren corpse. Had he let her live, he would no longer remain the anonymous Info Broker known as The Anomaly. “Sneaking around would be difficult, if someone were to know your face. Not that it matters when your targets are all incompetent with their own security," Adamus spoke to himself, as he often did. He walked out of the underpass, face and body concealed from passersby, followed only by the sounds of screaming pedestrians. To their eyes the siren appeared to have simply fallen apart, no culprit to be seen. “I leave the clean up to you DDAMSPEA, for surely you do it well,” Adamus hummed. Leaving the gory scene behind him, Adamus no longer concerned himself with concealing his victims. The DDAMSPEA would do it for him.

Adamus would continue walking until he felt the Sun was at the perfect position. The Sun shone brightly as it caused Adamus’ shadow to loom over a park bench. He looked up at the morning sky, revealing a thin grin. “It’s good to be alive.”

Henry had just finished clearing the last floor of the Department, anyone who wasn't essential had been moved to the cells. As he was making his last sweep, he saw something shine in the dark. He bent and picked it up, it appeared to be a small data disk, but when he flipped it over, he saw that it had the image of Carnifex on it. "Well well," he thought, "seems I've found a mole hole." He then bagged the evidence and continued on as if nothing happened

Bael arrived before the other department members.

He ignored the odd looks as he carried the still-unconscious Sanja into HQ, looking around. He didn't mind their stares. That wasn't his problem. The poltergeist looked around, wandering until he ran into Henry. "We finished with those dog-faced monsters. Caught one. Looked like I beat the hell out of the other. Your captive is dead. Do you know Sanja's apartment number, by chance?" He summarized briefly, ending with the question so he could lay the girl down. "On second thought, though — she's hurt. Where is the doctor?"

Shylock tended to draw attention when he was out during the day.

That was the case as a vampire, though, since he sheltered under a black umbrella. However he made some amends when offering others the benefit of its shade. It was no secret he was a vampire, and he wasn't the only one who did this. However he had a tendency not to rush out of the sun so fast and instead made an effort to be polite and pleasant to others, saying hello and generally not ignoring everything in the world around him.

It was for this reason he noticed Adamus on the bench. "Good afternoon," he greeted the man cheerfully. "Say, you don't look human — I'm afraid I'm bad at this; I spend my time almost exclusively around other vampires and I'm trying to improve on recognizing other races. What are you...?"

Winifred was numb from shock. Not that she had ever even met Mark, let alone spoken to him but the sight of him mangled and tortured was a sobering thing. She stayed that way for some length of time, she wasn't sure quite how long. Detachment like that was disorienting and she wasn't pulled from it until she heard the dispatched squad return to HQ. Upon hearing them she rushed to the doors and waited for them to arrive.

"Right. Thanks anyway," it occurred to Bael that this man probably didn't realize who Bael was. To him, he would just appear to be a department intern.

Piper and the others arrived shortly after. Ms. Reed had since taken back her brisk demeanor, putting the events behind her, and nodded to Fred as they came in. "We're all okay," she assured the woman. "We caught one of the perpetrators. We should have a high security cell prepared for him by now. It was an awful mess, but losses were... Minimal. Our worst non-fatal injury is Sanja's arm... Speaking of which, she should be back here. Have you seen her?"

"Bael came in asking which apartment was hers." She said, the worst of her anxiety evaporating. "Is there anything that I can help with?" She inquired, moving with her so as not to slow her down.

"Good. Thank you, Henry," she replied, sounding relieved. "We'll leave them in safety for now. We struck a blow against this... I don't know what it was. Some sort of organization. We have one of them now — they called him Vortigas — and the other seemed pretty badly beaten. He seemed very upset when he realized we had his partner but didn't attack."

"He's been through the mill, alright," Bael was standing nearby now. "Had the nerve to threaten something I care about. Anyway, Sanja's hurt her arm if you can help with that." By now someone was offering to take Sanja, and Bael let them. He turned to walk away.

"Fred, if you could do that — that would be great. I don't think you'll be helpful with finding out more about this thing we captured... I don't know what it is but I don't think it qualifies as your specialty. Mutant hell spawn, I mean," she added dryly. "Excuse me." She went to follow Bael, catching him fairly quickly. "Bael, I'm getting the impression today that maybe you've made some progress. Perhaps–"

"I'm getting the impression that you've mistaken me for actually having a heart of gold under that dark, savage exterior," he cut her off, then turned to look Piper in the eye. "I am still the dangerous poltergeist I was that day in the lighthouse, Piper Reed. It just so happens that today, I was driven to fight the same grim things you were, and that there are some things in this world that I can't tolerate any more than you can. Maybe I tolerate it less. And it happens that perhaps, yes, I even care about Sanja." His gaze drifted to the floor a short way in front of him. "...And I do. Deeply, I think, ever since this girl started watching me, asking questions about the lighthouse poltergeist. After a time she even started getting answers. Then her interest shifted and she stopped asking questions about him — she wanted to learn about Bael Julius Lake. And she reminded me of someone, and it was terrible and wonderful. Make no mistake about me, though, Reed." He looked back up at Piper. "That is the reason I stay locked up. Because the more I think about that similarity, the more I want to kill your leech. And O will if you give me a chance."
