Dice D&D: The City of Shaldra~Zin

Some generators I've seen have used just base 8 for all stats, have 27 for a pool, and you distribute them manually, and after that you choose a race and it calculates all the stats, plus the race buff.
I guess that works too. I just did it the dice rolling. You could ask @Grimsvald if the generator is okay.

I'll just do it the regular way. Thanks for the handbook, by the way. I hope I don't hinder the RP with my being a dinkus.

@Quillicious using the generator with the 27 point buy is what I recommended. You may use that or dice rolling. Yes there may be more than 1 of a class in the same group.

@Yesman Yes, the lich princess is in the crowd. The only one not in the crowd is the beholder and his wives.

Okay, noice. Thanks for the clarification. It'll take some time to make a char, since I never have before, but I'll try my best.

You can use Orcpub to try out creating a character. It doesn't have all the possible options available, but playing around with the site will help you learn how to do it.

If you need me to make any checks for that like Charisma or Persuasion I can... sadly, not really Animal Handling since it's an imp xD Also, I assume that we've only had time for short rests since the alley battle, not a long one, correct?

No need for a check. The imp is willing. Everyone has had 2 hours of rest. So it is a short rest. But you are able to regain hit points.

:How I use short rest:

You have 5 'hit dice' to regain health. One hit dice per level. These hit dice can only be regained after a long rest.

On a short rest you may spend a hit dice to regain health equal to your class level up dice. For example a Barbarian would spend 1 hit dice to regain 1d12+Con HP. If that barbarian is level 5, they may spend 5 'hit dice' to regain 5d12+ Con+Con+Con+Con+Con.

Short rest does not regain spell slots. Unless you have class abilities or feats allowing such a thing.

@Quillicious sounds like a good archetype choice. Tieflings can carry objects with their tails, which can be fun with pickpocketing and theft. Have you picked a background yet? That usually adds some flavor and items to your character.

That's what I was checking on :) So Dorric is down to one SS since he cast Hunter's Mark and Speak with Animals. And do you go by the PHB and on a long rest you gain half of the Hit Dice spent, minimum of 1? I didn't lose health in that battle, so it's not important now, but good info to know later.

Usually on a long rest I just let everyone go back to full health and SS. Its easier to keep track of.

Jaks is talking to Lich Princess outside the room. They are now walking out of the crowd, down the hallway towards Dorric.

Alright, and for the Hit Die thing, I mean if you're say, level 4 and you use 2 of your hit dice, then on a long rest you regain full health but you only get one hit die back. Or are you just going to completely refresh hit dice every long rest?

On long rest I will just refresh everything. Unless there is a particular reason why. If you damages are way to bad to be reasonably healed over night. I will say something to you.

@Grimsvald

I was thinking either Charlatan with the choice of the weighted dice, the favorite scam as sleight of hand on street corners, ideal as independance, bond as having a mentor, and flaw as greed. Or Urchin with ideal as aspiration, bond as keeping people from enduring the hardships my char has, and flaw as distrust.

Those both sound pretty awesome @Quillicious Tieflings are rare and commonly seen as evil/demonic in this world so I can see your character fitting into both of those social rolls very well. You're doing a great job on character creation.

Do you have any particular questions about the character sheet? Your stat modifiers? or Abilities? Can you read dice notation like +4 1d4+2?

Thanks, I'm trying my hardest. This seems very interesting, and it's a little difficult to juggle everything at once. Also, I did a little homework with the dice reading, and I think that's one roll of a four sided die plus 2 to it.

For questions, hit points are the confusing part for me. Also adding attributes after leveling up. I took it as starting as a level 5 to catch up to everyone, so does that give me any points to add to my base attributes?

They're as follows:

Str: 11

Dex: 15

Con: 11

Int: 13 (+1 racial)

Wis: 10

Cha: 13 (+2 racial)

@Grimsvald

You hit points are determined by class. In the Class Features section of your class information it should tell you about hit dice.

Hit Die d8

Hit Points at first level 8+Constitution Mod.

Your Constitution is 11. So your modifier is 0. ( The Stat minus 10 then divided by 2, rounded down. Equals your mod)

So at level 1 your life total would be 8. For every level after this you will roll 1d8+0 and add this total to your life.

Starting as a level 5 character you will roll 4d8+8 to get your total hit points.

When it comes to the Additional attribute points you receive from leveling up. You may add 2 points to your base stats. Either 2 points to a single stat. Or 1 point to 2 different stats. If you do not want to do this, you may choose a feat from the player hand book instead. Many of these feats will add 1 to a stat then give you an additional benefit.

Does this information help?

That helps a lot, thanks. What about when any of my char's attributes go up? Do I keep track of that separately or in the CS?

You will add your Dex mod to any initiative rolls, initiative is rolled at the start of every combat, so it's different from time to time, though those who are more Dexterious are more likely to be higher up in the Initiative order.
