Astrid just cried out in pain scrambling away from him startled by how severe the burning sensation was but ended up collapsing on the ground from pain and exhaustion

Eric flinched hearing her cry out “I.. I don’t know..” He just held her tightly “it didn’t look good..”

Evelyn smirked but scrambled up in a panic at his violence “there’s nothing I can do.”

He snapped at her, his fangs elongated “then leave before I kill you” He hissed. Kain knew that they had to get Astrid to a healer. He couldn’t do it because in order to he’d have to touch her. “Eric!” He yelled, knowing the man had gone down to get Jay. The only one he trusted to help his mate was his best friend. “Hang tight love, I’m here. We’re gonna get you help.” He knelt as close as he dared to, his soul hurt and all he wanted was her wrapped in his arms.
-
Jay heard her friend cry out and Kain yell for Eric. As much as she didn’t want to move, she knew they had to. She grabbed his hand and made her way up to the staircase. She caught sight of Luca’s dead body and smirked in satisfaction. Then her eyes caught Astrid in the floor, blood on her shoulder from the wound and her mark was marred, like a crack had formed on the edge. “Oh no” Jay breathed out. She could see Kain was tense, wanting to touch her but it seemed like he couldn’t. “Jay!” She turned and saw Paul. She ran to him and hugged him. No matter what she told him, she still loved her older brother.

Astrid whimpered pulling at the collar with tears welling up in her eyes, ignoring how badly it was burning her fingers. She was desperate for Kain’s touch but the pain was actually worse than the silver. She managed to sit up though but whined with any movement flinching when Eric touched her but curled into him seeking the safety. She looked traumatized wanting Kain but was starting to pass out

Eric froze seeing the mark on Astrid’s neck cracked and hurried to her side, gently undoing the collar. He looked at Jay as if apologizing as he scooped her up but panicked when she passed out

Kain stuck to Eric’s side like glue, hopefully he didn’t make the man more nervous than he already looked. He let out a loud rumble trying to comfort Astrid as much as he could although not touching her was killing him. “We need to take her to the healers. Paul, go report to Alpha Ryan. We still have the rest to deal with but right now, we got the ring leader” He said.
-
Jay let go of Paul, who took off with a nod and looking over at Eric nodding as he held Astrid. Jay stepped closer to the three, baring her neck to Kain. Submission was something that all species know. Kain nodded, allowing Jay closer. “She’s okay, just looks like her body is going into shock.” Jay said, brushing her shoulder against Eric’s.

Eric seemed to settled slightly as Jay stuck close to his side but continued to submissively tilt his head as they walked outside quickly. Kain’s kingship had him being a little over powering to the both of him “Kain..” he winced “please take a step back..”

Astrid was out cold just whimpering

Kain had been so focused on Astrid and his worry that he didn’t realize what he’d been doing. Not only did he rein his aura back, he took a couple steps sideways. “Sorry” He didn’t like using his kingship to intimidate his friends. They neared the border and he whined low, hearing Astrid’s continuous whimpers. Once this was fixed, he was definitely chaining her to his side permanently.
-
Jay had felt the aura slowly ebb away as Kain moved to the side. She knew it wasn’t his fault, knew why he was doing it, but it hurt having to keep a submissive pose.

Eric took a breath panting slightly, he knew his friend didn’t intend to use his power over them but it was still incredibly overwhelming. He hurried to the medics and carefully set her down

Astrid was out but any little movement sent more quiet cries raking her body. The medics quickly began trying to figure out what happened and treat her

Kain watched as Eric brought her into the medics. He paced outside, growling to himself. He was beyond frustrated with himself for letting them go on their own. He walked over to a nearby tree and slammed his fist into it. It wasn’t a punching bag, but it would work so he was still within earshot of the medics.
-
Jay sat down outside of the medics, watching Kain pace, growl and walk off to punch a tree. She waited for any information on her friend and their bond.

Hours later the lead medic walked out “she will be okay but it is going to be a long road. The blade appears to have been laced in silver and we have been unable to extract very much of it so she is going to continue to be weak for a while and struggle with the after effects. Our biggest concern is her mark appears to be severely compromised… we have no knowledge on this subject and the best we have come to understand through research is she going to crave your attention Kain but it is going to hurt you both. We do believe with time it will mend though..”

Kain had basically flown back to the medic. He listened intently and nodded. When the medic got to her mark, he growled low. “Thank you. When can we move her back to the castle?” He asked. Being in their room, surrounded by his scent, he hoped would help the process along because even if he can’t touch her, he can do the next best thing which was cover her in his scent as a comfort.
-
Jay had listened to everything the medic said. She felt like she had gotten off much better with a few uncomfortable burns on her neck from the collar. She still smelled like Luca even though the hug from Eric had gotten rid of some of it.

The medic submissively flinched slightly at his growl “she woke a short bit of time ago I do not see why she can not return to the castle but Kain you must call for us if she begins to worsen. We are doing what we can but this is uncharted territory… we do not know the consequences of a half terminated bond are…” she sighed “we do believe it is going to be more difficult as she is bonded to you and royal bonds are deeper. Her wolf is also still healing, so she may be more aggressive or defensive towards you.”

He pinched the bridge of his nose. Growling at the medic is not helping. “Eric! Can you help Astrid get to our room.” He asked his friend before turning to the medic. “If she gets worse I will contact you. I will do what I have to in order to help her.” Kain told the medic. He needed Astrid like he needed blood, he hoped that their bond would be strong enough to stitch itself back together. He wondered if remarking would work but he didn’t want to hurt her. “What would happen if we tried to remark each other?” He asked the medic.

The medic looked up at him “as I have said we have little knowledge on completely severed bonds and we have nothing on partly severed… it has been outlawed for centuries. It is like torture… It could help and strengthen the bond but Kain sir.. it could also break her we truly don’t know.”

Eric nodded stepping inside and gently picked up Astrid and headed up to Kain’s room

Kain nodded. “I guess we will see what happens.” He sighed, this would truly be a test for him. He bid the medic farewell and headed to the castle. He went past it and headed down the trail. Memories of their first run flashed through his head. Him tripping, jumping and falling into the river, their tackling sessions. Tears made their way down his cheeks as he stopped by a tree. He let out a roar full of pain, sadness and anger, shoving his fists into the bark over and over. It wasn’t fair! They could finally be together and this happens?! Kain sighed, pausing his punches to rest his head against the tree instead.
-
Jay followed Eric as he took Astrid to the pairs room. As they walked in, a heart wrenching roar echoed through the castle. They all knew it was Kain.

Astrid was asleep resting mostly comfortably curled into Eric’s arms as he gently set her down tucking her into the sheets. He was uncomfortable watching her resting but didn’t want to leave her alone if something happened and she needed them. He flinched hearing Kain roar just pulling Jay closer to him

Jay was quite content to be pulled closer to Eric. “Let’s sit on the couch.” She said, looking at him. She felt so bad for Kain and Astrid. They didn’t deserve this, and it was all her fault. She felt a tear escape her eye as she shuffled closer to the couch.
-
Kain had punched until his fists bled, washing the liquid off his hands in the river. He took a long jog before going into the castle. He ignored everyone and went into his office. He settled on the couch they’d been on earlier. He could still smell her scent on the fabric. Kain laid down, his nose where her scent was strongest and led the berries and chocolate lure him to sleep.

Astrid slept for a few hours but began to stirr whining faintly as she curled into a tighter ball. She blinked awake finally but just curled up more in the blankets “where.. where’s kain…?”

Eric held her tightly but sighed watching Astrid sleep but immediately stood up she started to wake up

Kain woke up on the couch, his mind jumping straight back to what had happened. He got to his feet, moving slowly to the door. They had to cancel the meeting, possibly all future meetings. He walked out of his office and up the stairs. The male stopped just outside, afraid of what he'd find on the other side. He breathed in before opening the door. He noticed the ball wrapped in blankets on the bed and the two over by the couch. "Thank you Eric, Jay. Could you leave us?" He asked, trying to be cordial considering how on edge he still was. Her scent wrapped around him which helped but he needed to talk to his mate alone.

Astrid looked up hearing Kain and perked up seeming excited to see him but looked ready to doze back off at the same time. “Hi Kain…” she tiredly smiled sitting up bundled in his blankets.

Eric dipped his head “Kain if you need us please let us know..” He took Jay’s hand and started the door.

He nodded to Eric, before watching them leave. He smiled over at Astrid, snagging one of his sitting chairs and setting it beside the bed. Close enough to scent, but far enough so they can't touch. "Hello love" He said. "You should get some more rest." He frowned, seeing how tired she still seemed. He wanted to tell her what happened, but she needed more rest. He walked over to his dresser and grabbed his favorite hoodie, bringing it back over to the bed. "You can sleep with this" He said, setting it on the duvet refusing to touch her.
-
Jay followed Eric out of the room and sighed, looking at him. "I wish we could help them" She whispered, putting her face in his chest and inhaling his scent.

Astrid carefully grabbed the hoodie and pulled it on snuggling into it tightly but looked up at him “I’m okay for the moment… why won’t you come on the bed??” She clearly didn’t remember everything that had happened fully and was upset he was avoiding her.

Eric sighed “I’m worried he’s not going to put in the effort needed to fix this.. he’s terrified of touching her..”

Kain looked down at his feet. He didn't want to make her upset, he wanted nothing more than to wrap his arms around her and run his fingers through her hair. "I-I can't love. We can't touch right now. Luca was partially successful at breaking our bond. If I touch you or you touch me, it burns like fire." He stood from the chair, frustration in every motion. "The medics don't know if it'll fix itself or if it will continue to break" He added, looking at her.
-
Jay kept herself pressed in his chest. "Is there anything we can do?" She asked, tilting her head up from his chest to look at him.

Astrid looked up at him whining only more desperate for his touch but curled up tighter in his hoodie “is.. is Jay okay..?”

Eric sighed “right now I don’t know… they are going to have to work this out together…”

Kain let out a reassuring rumble from his spot on the chair where he'd sat down. "She is fine. Her and Eric are just outside the door. Eric brought you back here from the medic." Kain said. His soul was aching, yearning for its other half and there was nothing he could do. "I'm going to cancel the next few mating meetings while you're recovering and we're trying to fix this" He told her.
-
Jay sighed, nodding her head. "Okay.." She said, not entirely convinced that there wasn't something they could do.

Astrid frowned “Kain I don’t want others to lose out just because of me.. that’s not fair to them.”

Eric just held her “Kain is going to have to be brave enough to touch her.. my fear is he is going to be to scared of hurting her..”
