BloodLines

Like caught Antje's tongue between his fingers and laughed out loud, "Don't worry Miss Antje, my cloths getting dirty are the least of my worries." Letting go, Luke smiled and got up, taking Antje’s back pack for her. “I’ll carry this. I smell a ton of blood in here, I am assuming it is your snacks?” Lucky he just ate. “I don’t know any spots to paint, I mostly just hang around in parks, and they are beautiful enough, they don’t need my help. If you so kindly lead the way.”

Antje cackled, completely unexpecting that. It was silly.

"Well, I noticed there's a couple other alleyways close to my other work, and I'd be happy to share my vandalizing space with you." She smiled. Maybe he was good at painting. Or she could at least help him get better at it. "And I'm never gonna drink all of that. You'd think I were being over fed." she smiled and took his hand and started walking.

"So you just haunt parks when you're bored?"

“Oh so you are the sharing type, and I don’t think you get feed enough.” Luke joked as they started to walk towards his place again. When she took his hand, something stirred inside him. He was certainly not expecting that from her. Squeezing her hand he smiled a small smile while they walked.

“What?” He said, looking slightly offended, “I will have you know haunting parks is not all I do! I also Haunt the streets, abandon houses and cellars.” He joked. In truth, the park really was his escape, he loved being in it, it calmed him.

When they finally got to the Ally rather close to his home, Luke spread Antje’s paints around on the ground. Taking on of the bottles of blood, Luke handed it to Antje and smiled at her, “Why don’t you try and drink a bit.” Turning around Luke picked a nice blue color and started to draw on the wall. “Don’t look!” He said ,trying to block her view.

When he was done, he turned around, “Behold!” What was on the wall was a stick horse. The kind of stick horses you see in drawing with kindergartners. “What do you think? I think I should call it Rick’s Steed of might.”

Cleaning the brush Luke turned to the wall again, but this time he looked at an empty space. “You know, I love to paint the sunrise. But, I never really seen a sunrise I liked, I find them all hideous. I also like to draw the forest at night. I have not actually painted in years. Maybe when I was in my 100s. I wonder if I still actually have it in me?” He said, challenging himself.

Antje smiled at the horse. "Lookit my horse, my horse is amazing.." she sang. He wouldn't know the reference, but it immediately came to mind.

"You should paint the horse on the wall in the back of the store for Rick to see." she grinned, taking a sip from the bottle. It was thick and buttery and she hated it ever since they had her drinking it. It wasn't so terrible now, but she still didn't like it.

"What's it like being born a vampire?" she asked quietly. Maybe he didn't want to talk about it. But she was curious. She'd spent most of her life wishing she could be able to do everything her parents could wish for her to do, and she always wondered what it would be like to know the other heirs and be part of something. But she'd never wear the golden colored drab of an heir. But maybe that was for the better? She would never know what freedoms the human world held. She'd never know about the art and music she loved. And she'd some day have to face an arranged marriage to a stranger for the advancement of her family in the courts. Not that she'd ever find love and matrimony in the human world...

“Haha I might lose my job if I did that.” Luke said under his breath. Blood began to linger in the air as she drank the bottle. It nauseated him some, something that could make Changlings lose their cool. He was a full blooded Vampire though. It was funny, right after he thought that, Antje would ask such a question.

“Do you mean born a full blooded Vampire, or born into royalty? Because it matters. I can only tell you about being born into Royal because that is what I was born into. I could not give you a straight answer anyway, because I hated it. My siblings blended right in, I however did not.” He paused and thought for a moment. “to be born a full blooded Vampire, a Pure Blooded Vampire, I can only tell you what that is like through my cravings and reactions. I am sure that makes no sense.” Stopping what he was doing, Lucifer turned around and looked down at Antje, he eyes gleaming and for once a frown placed on his lips.

“I am one of the most powerful Vampires to live next to my father, mother and siblings. There are few Vampires with such blood as mine. What few there are that are close to being pure, we take them into the family. I am not as powerful as my father or any of my older siblings. I am weak compared to them, but to any other vampire, I am a force to be feared. Power, I struggle to keep the need for power away.” Lucifer grimaced and scoffed. “tch. My family is so corrupt; they can’t control the need for power. Fools.” Lucifer turned back to the painting, he had fallen back into Lucifer instead of Luke. His Vampire self has emerged more times than he can count being around Antje.

“Give me a minute. I got a little riled up.” Lucifer said beginning to paint again, not wanting to lose his temper completely. He really did hate his family, and he always felt like he was fighting a monster inside of him. He did not like to admit it, but he hated himself, he wished he could be Luke all the time. Human Luke.

“What is it like to be born with a heart beat?” He finally said, painting the wall slowly.

Antje blinked, thinking how to answer. No one had ever asked her that, not even The Magics.

"It's not fun. My heart stops and starts randomly, almost like I have a thousand little heart attacks every day." she sighed, thinking. "It's weird. When a full blooded vampire grows up they go through the same emotions and little self-discoveries that people always do, but they don't have to deal with nearly as much emotions. They don't produce so many bizarre little hormones, they can control impulses. They use their auras to branch out, to react. I have all that. But I have that on top of human functions. And human things. It feels like being suspended between changing between the two. But some days you're changing into something, and sometimes you're not changing into everything." She looked down and then up at Luke. "I don't recommend being human. It's not very fun. But I wouldn't recommend being a vampire, either." she smiled. She would probably think of a much better answer much later, but now that was all she had.

"So whatchapainting?" she asked after a moment of being quiet.

Lucifer thought about everything she said for a bit he breathed quietly. When she had stopped talking, he listed to her shuffle behind him. All was quiet for a while until she asked him what he was painting. Standing aside he let her see a small painting of trees and flowers. It was a beautiful painting of a forest in the middle of the night. This is the freedom he seeks; this is what he imagines freedom to be. Lucifer let his hand drop to his side as he stared at the painting he did, it surprised him it turned out as good as it did.

“Antje…” Lucifer called to her, not really looking back. Sighing he ran his hand through his hair and then turned to face her, “Never mind. I think I need to go.” He said, packing up a few of her painting stuff. “You should keep coming to see me. I would love if you did.” He paused and walked up to her and then reached and touched her forehead. Brushing her hair with his fingers he sighed and gave her a small smile. “Make sure you at least finish one of those bottles.” He said, before turning away and walking back home. He hated whatever feeling he was getting from her. Something was stirring inside of him when he spoke with her.

Over the next few months the stirring feeling inside of him grew stronger. He grew more agitated when Antje was not around, he felt like she should be there with him all the time. He did not know if it was because she was a Dhampire that he was feeling the need to be around her. Everything about her was drawing him in, and it frusaighted him to no end. “It’s called the road to love, dude.” Rick said to him one day at work. “I wouldn’t say you love her yet, but it looks like you have some pretty strong feeling for her. She’s a good girl Luke, you could do worse.” Luke only scoffed at Rick whenever he said such things.

It had been two months since he meet Antje and their connection through telepathy grew familiar and a bit stronger. Probably as strong as that bond will get with their relationship the way it was. Non-bonded vampires with no ties in blood, ritual and changelings. Luke sighed as him and Rick got out of work, he was hoping to see Antje tonight because it was the weekend so she did not have to get home early during the night.

Antje had found herself dodging past Tante and her incessant questions for the millionth time. Tante was clearly convinced that Antje had a boyfriend, that Antje was sexually active, that her parents would find out and all manner of hellfire would rain down on them. Oh, well.

"Tante if I were having sex DON'T YOU THINK it would change my smell?" that was a good deal breaker, one that always made Tante back down. She hadn't even kissed him yet. She was perfectly happy holding his hand and sitting on the bench in the park and talking. Kisses or other physical things weren't necessary to her. But maybe he did mind that. But she'd have to ask him. She waited and downed the stupid bottle of blood before going to shower to go out. She put on make-up and tried to tame her choppy, layered mess for hair. She left her bangs in her face because she sort of forgot how to breathe when Luke brushed her hair from her face.

She threw on her black leather boots and her winter pea-coat with a hoodie under it. There was a little more than a few inches of snow on the ground, and it made her happy because the sun set earlier and the sun rose late. She'd brought the scarf and mittens she'd secretly made for him and a hat she'd bought him that looked like a white owl was his hat. It'd match his hair and if he didn't want the hat she'd wear it, or if Rick thought he was a cool cat with no hat she'd make him wear it. She'd kinda intercept them near the park. She was trying to surprise Luke, but she sort of felt like he knew. She put her music on and started walking.

Walking to the park, Rick walked slowly beside him, “So it’s almost Christmas time. You going to get me something amazing right Luke?” Rick said, nudging him in the side. “Why would I do that?” Luke said with a smirk. “Oh come on, last year you got me that CD was I looking for! It surprised me because you are so anti electronic.” Luke grinned, “Don’t expect that again, that was the worse experience ever.”

Feeling Antje move into his presence he felt relived, her schooling should almost be over this year. She might start College with Rick next semester. When he saw her come into view he smiled and let out a long breath, only to breath in again and catch her scent. She smelt like normal, happy and fed.

“Ah, Annnttjjee!” Rick called, waving her down. When they both got to her, Rick smiled at her, “Good evening Antje, Nice to see you again. I can’t really stay because I need to go home and get some homework done before my classes in the morning. But I wanted to come say hi to you before I went home. Also I wanted to give you this.” Reaching into his pocket, he pulled out a piece of paper and handed it to her. “It is an invitation to school ending party. Luke will be there too, even though he’s a lazy bum and doesn’t go to school.”

Luke only sighed in response. “Anyway, I hope you come and I will see you around! Bye Antje, Luke.” Rick said, waving them off and then leavening them alone. Luke waved a little and then walked to the bench and sat down, patting next to him he smiled.

Antje shook her head with a large, childish grin on her face.

"Nope! I made you a surprise, so stand up and close your eyes so I can give it to you." she bubbled. She hoped he liked it, even though she knew it was sort of silly to give to him. He didn't need to worry about the cold. And she didn't exactly see him wearing mittens. Her Christmas presents to him were already wrapped, even though she kept finding ideas for more.

"And you can't peek. Or else. " she grinned.

Luke gave her a questioning look and then stood up, “Pfft, or else?” He said closing his eyes and holding his hands out. “I want to open my eyes just to see what ‘or else’ means” He breathed out and waiting for her to do whatever she was going to do, he wondering what she was giving him.

"Nopenopenope! I'll give them to Rick if you don't keep your eyes closed!" she warned. She took his hands gently and put the black mittens on his spindly white fingers. She stood on the bench and gently wrapped the black and white scarf around his neck and tied it at the end. Finally she put the white owlly hat on. "Alright wanna see how you look?" she smiled, letting him open his eyes and she showed him what he looked like to her through the link. "What do you think?" she asked after a moment. She thought he looked adorable, even though he was already all set in the looks department. He didn't need to be adorable. He was already striking. And he didn't need to worry about the cold. But maybe it'd be another prop to look human.

“Haha I love it” He said, in truth he was not really into these kinds of things, but the fact she went through the trouble of getting them for him made a difference. “I am always lacking in the warmer clothes department, I guess I won’t look that odd anymore haha.”

Taking off the hat he stared at it. Any owl. A creature of the night, symbolize wisdom to most humans. What a lot of people have forgotten is that the owl also symbolize weather, fate and death. Putting the hat back on, Luke looked up to Antje who is still standing on bench. Picking her up Luke pulled her into a large squeezing hug.

After a moment Luke put her on the ground again, but he still held her against his chest. “Antje… I have something important I need to ask you. I have thought about it pretty hard and come to the conclusion that I want this. But you have to accepted it first.” He paused and breathed out and waited or a long moment. He held her tight. After a few minutes of him holding her and saying nothing he spoke quietly, but he also spoke with the link. “I want to be your guardian. I want to stay with you and protect you from danger of anything, be it Vampire, Magic or Werewolf. There is a smaller ritual, nothing big, for a lesser vampire to bond to a higher class vampire as life protectors, but it does not work the other way around. I have no idea if it would work between a Vampire and Dhampire. Even if it didn't I would want the title of guardian” Throwing his feeling through the link he conveyed how much he wanted to stay here and protect her.

She was never in any danger since she’s been born, but he feels like he should guard her, like bad things will began to happen to her. She may not feel it now, but when Lucifer gets these feeling he just can’t let them go. She might think he was saying these things just out of paranoia, he knew she thought he was slightly paranoid. But it did not mater, what matter right now was that she let him protect her. He was almost royalty, and she was thrown down into the dumps of Vampire society. Yet he felt like a knight asking a princess to let him be her guard. Even if the ritual did not work, the title itself was something special, even though it would be considered degrading to someone of Lucifer's status, him being almost nobility. Vampires for some reason were all about ranks and titles. Lucifer never much like the system, but it was engrained in him since he was young. His self that struggles for power also holds onto such feelings for his rank, even though he long denounced his family.

Antje thought about it. "What if they find you, and you have to leave really quickly? Or what if I have to go..back?" She wasn't trying to think of reasons to say no. She didn't want him to make a mistake. She genuinely cared more about his possible consequences than her own. She knew if his family ever caught him he'd be destroyed if he had to stay or try and fight. What if they caught her? They couldn't kill her as easily as him. She'd be bait to a terrible trap.

She was also terrified because her parents seemed more or less happier with her. She didn't feel like she'd changed any. But she wouldn't know. She wanted to say yes. She'd practically already said yes to him through their link thing.

"You'd be protecting me from scraped knees and bullies at school..." she wanted to kiss him, he was too sweet. He bothered too much for her.

Luke sighed and let go of her, he knew she would not understand. He felt so many muddled up feelings come from their link. There was a stronger feeling of her wanting him to, but there was so much more underneath. “Think about it Antje. Don’t answer me now, just think about it.” He moved to start walking around the park. He could not sit still now, he was irritated because he was not getting what he wanted. He knew he was probably acting like an over grown baby now, but he didn’t care. She just did not understand. She did not know what kind of danger she was in and the older she got the worse off she will be. He wondered though, if him taking up being a guardian will only make it worse for her.

“So were you going to go to Rick’s party. He usually had college friends come to those kinds of events. You are going to college next year right? When does your school end? I think you should go to Rick’s college.” He paused he was sounding nervous, which was extremely unusual for him. Luke sighed and frowned, “Rick wants me to get a cell phone. Infernal electric device. What do you think?” He said, really asking her honest opinion.

"You could if you think it'll make your life easier you should." Antje smiled, letting the Lucifer part of him be. He'd really started to mix the two sides to him since he'd become closer to him. Was that helpful to him?

She thought about what he'd said, and even though she certainly didn't feel anywhere near royalty, she felt like he was her knight. He'd never go back to his old life, she realized. And he'd never let anything hurt her. He just wanted her to be safe. Which was very touching to her. She didn't think she was ever in danger, or that she would ever really be in danger. But it would make him happy. Even though she had no idea what the process was.

"Rick just wants to find a better way to reach you. And it's not like he can just use a link like I can." she shrugged.

"And I'm not really a party person. Plus college means drinking. And humans are testy enough by themselves without alcohol. But it's Rick. He wants to include us, too..."

"So how does the process work for that protector thing?" she asked quietly. She was still thinking about it. Did he really like his hat and his mittens and stuff? She couldn't really tell.

Luke scoffed, “You should go so I won’t have to be there alone.” He said with a little thought. He did not really want a cell phone. He listened to the question and then answered honestly. “Mark my flesh with a scar or tattoo and place a bit of your own blood into it. Your blood has to be more powerful than mine to work technically. But since you’re not a vampire… I think it might work. But you should really think about it… How about you give me your answer at Rick’s party? That way you have time to think about it.”

Luicfer leaned over and took her hand, “Don’t be afraid about hurting me for the ritual. The scar will burn when you are in danger, my blood will yearn to be with you and I will be able to track you down easier than a werewolf. I will share your pain. It is a one way bond however. Only I will gain these powers.”
This is better then the Master servant bonds in my opinion… she wont feel like I am trying to take her as mine. He brushed his hair back and looked at the stars. She has no idea how special she is.

Antje smiled a little. "I'll go so you'll have someone to talk to other than Rick. But I'll probably get my eyes clawed out at every girl who saw you." she stuck her tongue out. She didn't want to share any painful thing with him, ever. She didn't know why but it sounded like a good investment, his weird ritual.

"So what do you want the mark to be? And where?" she asked quietly. She was cold, but she wanted to be where he wanted to be, even in the park, freezing her boobs off.

"Is it a common practice?" she asked after a moment of thinking. She wanted to know about it more, even though she'd made up her mind already that she'd do it.

He smiled, she sounded like she was buying into it little by little, even curiosity opened doors. Brushing his fingers on her forehead the smiled down at her. Moving her bangs away from her forehead some, He used his seductive voice on her, “What ever you want to put on my body. Where ever on my body you want it, Miss Antje.”She had told him several time she thought he was kind of creepy when he talked like that, but he loved the reaction from her when he talked to her like that. When he felt how cold her skin way, he took off the scarf around his neck that she had given him and wrapped it around her neck. “I’ll let you borrow this, but you have to give it back.”

He stood there a few moments thinking about the question. “It use to be common practice, till the Magic’s came in. I think the only ritual that we use now are Mater and Servant. That Ritual if generally forced onto changelings and lesser vampires. The Guardian ones are rare because no vampire really wants to guard another. The process really doesn’t MAKE a vampire loyal to another. It only helps make it easier to protect someone. It can also make it easier to kill them. So no, it is no longer common practice. This is an age where loyalty is a dead concept.”

Luke falling in love with Antje, but Lucifer pushed those feelings away because he knew there was something more Antje was meant for. But right now, Luke really wanted to kiss her, Lucifer just wanted her to accept the stupid ritual. Why had he developed two sides? Although it seemed like the more he was with her, the more the two had started to blend together. “Like I said… really think it over. Don’t give me your answer till after Rick’s party. Ok?”

She nodded, making a small mental note about it. She'd blushed, hard, at his innuendo. Creepy didn't quite do justice to describe how she felt when he was being seductive, but it made her legs feel like bellow and her heart felt like a marshmallow on fire when he said things like that. Truthfully, she was bashful when things came to their relationship. But even though he hinted or joked, she could tell they were both too shy to actually do anything like that any time soon.

She honestly wished one of them had the courage to lean in 95 degrees and the other would lean in the other 5 degrees and a kiss would happen. She loved nothing more than cuddling with him, or holding hands, or painting with him, but she knew she wanted to maybe kiss him sometime soon. Before he got impatient and found someone else. She idly opened up their link, currently her physical way of saying "What are you thinking about?"

When she reached out to his mind he sent her images of a library. Rows and rows of books, massive shelves towering around a large room. This is the Library in the castle my family and a lot of royal Vampires live in… the one in your sketch book. I wish I could have accesses to it; I want to know more about you. About Damphires. He changed his thought process to wondering if the ritual would even work because he was not sure if Damphires were considered more powerful blood then Vampires or weaker. Regardless he wanted to know, and he wanted the bond to happen. The paranoia of her being attacked began to leak through the link. Lucifer sighed and rubbed his face with his hands. Cutting off the link Lucifer scolded himself for sharing that last bit of information. He swares she might think he was a worry wart and more paranoid then necessary.

Antje shrugged and quietly took his hand. Neither of them had access to that library, as she wasn't supposed to know a thing until the full extent of her biology was figured out. She couldn't possibly see why the Magics would ever think of her as powerful. But she knew from what little Tante had told her that her blood carried with it nearly every characteristic of her bloodline, but her body also somehow formed to be partially human.

Her blood, in theory, should work. Tante had a few books that were allowed by the Magics, but if Antje herself ever read them she'd be swiftly killed. She didn't want to read them. She was honestly terrified of what she might find. There was no way to those books, or to that library.

She didn't quite understand the anxious need to protect her coming from Luke. But she was softly happy that he cared that much about her. When you have someone else that you find you care about, the idea of anything bad ever happening to them, especially if you might have been able to do something about it, well she sort of saw where he was coming from. But it was a bond forever. He could just as easily find someone else. It'd break her heart, but if it 'd happened she couldn't do much about it. But she would be his bother.

"What's it like? That stupid castle, I mean." she asked after a moment. She could see some more generous piles of snow on the ground near the walkways. Oh, yeah. Uh, we're building a snowman, right now. She wasn't quite commanding him to, because she doubted he'd ever made a snowman before.

Hmmm a snowman… He thought back, bending down he started to roll the snow around to try and make the required parts. “Its large. The separate the levels were off limit to some curtain ranking of vamps. I could go everywhere. Eventually I learned what most of the castle was like. There are some secret ways everywhere. Some mostly underground. I was never one for reading books, even when you had lived for a good 300 years. Antje, I am so much older then you, you are such a young vampire. I hate to ask you, but I feel like I need to. Does it bother you at all? I swear I get look like at like a pettoflie when I hang out with you. I wonder if it bothers you at all, because I know you’re not blind.” He chuckled, her age looks were stuck in her 14 and his got stuck in the 27s. “You don’t ever feel wireded out that I am 303? Your still in your first life time. I don’t even know if Damphires live the same amount of time vampires do.” He finished the base by the time he had finished his last sentence. He looked up from where he was squatting and grind at her.

Antje shrugged and gently threw a small clot of snow at him.

"Tante told me that I'll have growth spurts eventually. My body is trying to deal with hormones and emotions and so much that it makes my metabolism ridiculous. It's slowing down, though, which means I'll catch up eventually." she'd neglected to mention that that was the day where she wouldn't talk to him about school at all and she'd seemed so sad for the next two days after that. She'd been verbally assaulted in the girls bathroom that day, and she'd very nearly tried to kill herself that day. She was called "It" at school. The bullies even explained it to her. "You have no tits. But you look like a girl and a boy. You're an IT." she usually found ways to avoid them, but she'd started dressing more...girly lately, and she'd even started to wear her hair more girly lately, which she clearly wasn't allowed to do. She'd gone to the bathroom to check her cellphone for anything Tante needed to tell her, because her shift was always changing. She'd checked it and she was fixing her eye make up when they came in. They'd pushed her into a stall and they'd screamed at her and pulled her hair. Then they'd left like they'd followed her in there, and Antje had stayed in the stall all day, miserating.

She'd stayed on the fire escape until Tante got home, and Tante had had to coax her down from there and out her room before Antje finally said what had happened, and she'd demanded answers about why her hair would grow so slowly and that she was still a mostly-underdeveloped girl instead of a young woman.

"I don't worry about being seen with you. I just worry about why you invest your time in me when there are certainly much more developed women you could date or something." She bit her tongue really hard, her eyes hurting. She didn't want to cry. She worked with him on the middle part of their snow man. Maybe they'd make a snow-couple. That'd be cute. "My hair's grown longer lately. Which it hasn't done since I was 16, so I think I got worried about it at the right time instead of being miserable for four years..."

Luke came up behind Antje and hugged her really tight. “Antje, no one understands me more then you. No one.” He said in a whisper. “Even though you don’t understand me as much as I would like, or me you. I can count on you. I have not had someone to count on for years.” He sighed, he wanted to comfort her and hold her and everything else under the sun. Lucifer hissed in his mind telling him to not give in to such emotions. “Human women are food for me. That is all. You are much more important than a human. Vampires are petty, I am relived you were not raised in such vampire society. I don’t even know how I manage to escape…” He thought for a long moment and then leaned his head and laid it on her shoulder. “No, I am a monster and if you saw that part of me… the true part of Lucifer you would be as scared as you were when you first meet that side of me. I just worry about tainting your innocence from our world. It is far from a ‘human’ world. It’s cruel, ugly and bad. You would be better off as a human.”

He let go of her and then made a head to the snow man, placing it onto it, the last piece. “You would not like me anymore if you saw that part of me. But if you took the ritual, you would see how twisted I really am when I loss control. When I am not Luke.”
