BloodLines

Antje startled, a deer-in-the-headlights look in her face. After a second she smiled, happy to see him.

"Herr Luke." She said, sticking out her tongue. There was no one else in line, probably due to the dangerous vampire behind the counter.

"How's work?" she teased. She was making eye contact, and she realized he had nice eyes that sort of sucked you in. She liked his platinum, silver hair that framed his face. He was kind of beautiful.

“Mmmmm Work was boring until you got here Miss Antje.” Luicfer said lazily. Leaning more over the counter he started at her, “You are out rather late, I hope your guardian does not keep you on a tight leash.” He said with a smile. He was assuming she lived with whoever changed her since she had a changling tattoo.

Soon another man came out of the back room. He had long blond hair and brown eyes. “Hey Luke, stop scaring girls will you?” the man said, approaching the counter with some boxes.

Lucifer laughed at loud, “you are just jealous Rick, beside this one is special. I think it would take a lot more than me to scare her.”

Lucifer then scanned both of Antje’s soda and then took out his own wallet and paid for them. Putting them both in a bag he graved them and came around the corner. “I am going to take my break now. See you in a half an hour.” Lucifer said, carrying Antje’s soda in one hand and graving her hand with his free hand.

“Luuuuke don’t leave me man. I was kidding!” Rick said, slouching on the boxes he had just put on the corner. When they got outside Lucifer smiled at her, “I think I am going to hold your soda’s captive and make you spend my break with me. Would you like to take a walk with me Miss Antje?” Lucifer asked, gently tugged her hand and staring at her eyes and his well placed smile.

Antje blushed, surprised.

"Oh..uh, sure.." she'd never held hands with anyone before, and she finally understood why people liked it. It was body language for "You're not alone". She then realized that he would be able to feel her pulse, which wasn't too terrible minus the fact that changelings had no pulse. It would explain her odd scent, her tolerance to some light, and especially it would explain why she could very well pass for human. Antje let her hair fall into her eyes, trying to understand why he'd decided to abduct her on his break. And what was Rick talking about? Luke probably had lots of women. Sometimes the dangerous feeling from talking to or being around a vampire actually attracted foolish women.

"I'm so happy it's the weekend." she finally smiled.

"Now I can work on my painting and maybe get that done, and I don't have a curfew on weekends."

Luke felt did feel the pulse, which meant she was human or something other than that, regardless she had a beating heart. She did say she drank blood though. He didn’t let it bother him though. Antje had been on his mind since their first meeting and he had wanted to see her since, he’s not going to let this chance slip. Besides if she was human still, he could just taker her away from her master and change her himself. She has a changeling tattoo so she has probably made a deal with a more powerful vampire or something. In less it was someone from his immediate family, he wouldn’t mind killing them.

“Oooh, so you usually play on the weekends? You should come over and paint something in my dreary abandon warehouse. Give me something pleasant to stare at when I can’t sleep.” He said simply. He paused a moment to look both ways at a street and then gently pulled Antje with him across at a jogging pace. When they got to the other side he slowed to a walk again. Motioning his hands that were holding the soda, he pointed out a small park. “I pretty much know all the parks in the area, that’s where I usually hang out.”

Pulling her further into the park and found a chair next to a fountain and a little ways from a play place. Sitting down he patted next to him on the bench for her to sit down, placing her stuff next to his feet. He has to admit he was disappointed that Antje did not seek him out the next day, or the day after. Obliviously this was just pure coincidence that she stumbled in the same store he worked at. “You know when I sit in the park at night like this I usually get one of two reactions. Either people cower in fear from me or they flock to me. It is truly strange. Humans can be very strange. In truth, Vampires are the real boring ones. They never change, over the years, they all stay the same. We hate change, so awkward. But humans, they change so fluently and readily. It’s so interesting to watch. To me they are like fish, they have a standing memory of 3 seconds. One minute they are trudging about over something important… and then the next they forget or move on to the next ‘important’ task.”

Lucifer looked over at Antje and smiled a small smile, “Oh sorry, I guess I went off on a small tangent just now.”

Antje smiled and shrugged.

"Well, most of us were human once..." she almost cringed, "But we have nothing to change into after that. And everyone knows their rank here, and they can't do anything to change that. But humans are a naturally insane species to begin with. They're constantly trying to change, and there are thousands of things they could change into..."She shrugged. She certainly agreed with him; vampires were boring creatures. She was glad she'd bumped into him again. She hadn't really meant to blow him off, she had school and homework to balance. Tante usually was home before school got out, but mostly on school nights she couldn't go out and paint.

"I have this thing where male humans are terrified of me, where females seem to think it's their job to assert themselves around me, but then I don't scare children." she smiled wider. She liked children; they were so funny and so accepting. Other women were horrible to her. And men just got scared. Which made high school difficult enough.

“Children huh? You are something else you know.” He paused a moment and then looked down at her. The moon light made her face look bright, on top of that his night vision helped to see her. “ I was not planning on saying this being our second meeting, but I will take a risk anyway. If are in any trouble, come and get me. When I am not working I am usually at parks around the area of here or my home. My home was actually that building next to the one you were drawing on.”

Luicifer leaned a little closer to Antje and touched a strand of her hair and tucked it behind her ear. “I don’t often take a liking to other Vampires. It makes me want to steal you away from your master, whomever they are.” Leaning back on the bench, Luke smile to himself, He was being pathetically soft with this girl. “As for school, I have a feeling you’re a strong girl. Don’t let it get you down, if you get lonely, you can come see me. What school do you go to, if I may be so bold to ask?” He asked, leaning over so his elbows are on his knees and his face is resting on his hands again.

Antje smiled, trying to think of what to tell him. She essentially had no master. His obvious interest in her made her chest feel on fire. Could she trust him? She wasn't about to risk herself, though. Dhampires were pariahs, and many were encouraged to kill them. By someone's grace, the Magics and her parents had for some reason kept her alive. But who was he, really? He had no tattoo, and he said he was rogue. He also had the same erethreal beauty only aristocratic vampires had. Maybe he was from a family, too.

"I'm at the town high school. I graduate this year, and it's been a long four years." she kept making eye contact and then breaking it; unused to any sort of undivided attention.

Lucifer thought about where that school was located. He never concerned himself with places like that because he looked too old to pass as a high school student and he also thought it was pathetic for any vampire to hunt children. Although he had to admit, children have the purest blood because they had yet to go through many diseases and drugs old humans digested. Besides there was no spot in hunting children.

He was beginning to feel like a stalker. Why does he even care so much about Antje? He just meet her not to long ago. Was he that bored? Feeling a bit of frustration bubble up in his chest he looked away from her and leaned back. Maybe he should not have offered to help her, he could get into real trouble just being around her. Looking back at Antje he noticed she would smile and often look at him and then look away. She was being incredibly shy, and it was flat out adorable.

Luke let out a long sigh and put his hands over his eyes. “I was home schooled.” He said simply after a while. “What are you going to do after you graduate? Work? Stay with your master?”

Antje shrugged. There's that word again... "I dunno what I want to do..." she sighed, having never admit this out loud.

"I mean, I could do the human thing and go to a college, but that means day classes. I could do a night program, but the learning is excelorated, and I want to be able to do well..." Her parents wanted her to go to college, this year constantly suggesting respectable places they'd like her to get into. She clearly couldn't tell them that no matter the school, she'd still learn the same things and get the same degree as if she went to a better school.

"And if I left, I'd really have nowhere to go..." she tried making eye contact for longer periods of time, wondering why he was so interested. She sort of understood that in a way for him to trust her, or her to trust him, they'd sort of need to know things about each other, which wouldn't happen through osmosis.

"So what did you do before you came here?" She didn't mean to pry at that, but she was sort of interested. Her suspicion that he was maybe from a family was still forming, but it felt pretty solid.

“Hmm, what I did before here….” Lucifer said, repeating her words. Honestly Lucifer was running before this. Hiding in places his siblings would not be able to find him. He was even running from that hunter one time. The first few years were intense, this was the first year he had gotten by with minimal problems.

“I can’t seem to find a nice answer, so I will just say escaping. I escaped everything. I have been free for about 6 years now. Which is a short amount of time in Vampire standards. For you maybe a lot of time still because you have not go through one human life time yet. But I have been running for a while now. I think this is the first year I have not had an incident yet. With hunters or Vampires. Except you, but you have yet to turn into an incident for me.” He said, flashing her a large toothy smile, “I would hate if that happened. I enjoy your company.”
Too much for my own good, this might actually get me in trouble. He thought.

He knew he was not going to listen to himself, she was too interesting to not talk to. “I should be getting back to work Miss Antje.” Standing up Lucifer handed her the two sodas in the bag and gave her a small smile. “Good luck in school Miss Anjte, don’t let a bunch of wusses get you down. Perhaps we can meet again some time.”

Antje almost pouted. Mehhhh. Why did he have to go? She put her sodas down and smiled a little.

"I'll see you later..." She wasn't so much as saying the saying, she kind of meant it. Her heart sort of went out to him; his story was sad, and she was sure there was plenty he had left out. She liked talking to him, finally happy to have someone.

Hiding was something she was certainly used to, but a different sort of hiding.

Antje hadn't left the bench since he left. She finished a soda and threw the other one away. It was a clear night and you could see the stars. She'd eventually laid on her back and watched the sky, and she eventually fallen asleep with one arm as a pillow and one arm on her waist/side. She was comfortable enough that she'd drifted off, despite wanting to work on her painting. She hadn't the motivation, and she were tired already from not drinking today. It was one of those days..when she decided to be human as much as possible.

Luke waved at Antje and turned around and walked back at work. When he crossed the street and then walked back into the shop he saw Rick lazily laying on the counter. “Hey, no sleeping on the job.” Luke said, kicking the counter. Rick jumped up and looked at Luke, “What? I wasn’t sleeping… Besides I was waiting for you to get back. So what was up with that girl? She looks too young for you man. You being a womanizer and all. I don’t get it, you are honestly a scary looking dude sometimes…” Rick continued to talk and Lucifer ignored him as he opened some of the boxes Rick had left there.

Thinking about the things Antje said today he smiled a bit, feeling slightly less lonely then he use too. If things continue the way they do, he has a feeling he might really steal her away from who ever had control of her. He feels like there is something about her that he is miscalculating, something a lot larger than his own back story. He is sure if she was to fully trust him he would he to spill the beans about his heritage. He had a feeling they both knew they were hiding things from each other, purely for protective purposes.

After work was done and the two replacement shift got there, Rick and him headed out. “So do you want to get a bite to eat? Not that you ever eat anything, you are so stingy with your money. You should really eat out ever now and again.” Rick complained. Luke laughed, “Sorry, but eating out never interests me, I rather use my money on other things and eat at home.” Walking into the park they conversed about simple college things.

“Hey man, look. Isn’t that the girl you were with earlier?” Rick said, pointing at a girl on a bench. Luke looked over to see Antje was still in fact sitting on the bench. “What… I hope she does not get in trouble for being out too late…” Both approaching Antje Luke took her hand in his and checked her pulse. Normal sleeping human pulse, slow and steady. She looked kind of sickly, but she kind of always looked sickly. “Antje…” Luke bent down a bit and placed his head on her forehead, She seemed so human sometimes, and sometimes she seemed vampire. “Antje…. “ when she seemed to come around Luke was frowning, “When was the last time you feed today?” He knew she would understand what ‘feed’ meant, while Rick out think eat normal foods. He did not want to have to deal with taking her home, her master or caretaking would probably recognize him, maybe not right at first but eventually.

Antje's eyes fluttered, and for a moment she was confused. She sat up and yawned, wondering how late it was. Not that she had anywhere to be. 'Out by dark in by light.'

"What? Oh. I fell asleep. Derp." she mumbled. She noticed Luke wasn't alone and she felt like a weirdo. Why did he care if she ate today? She was fine. Besides, why'd he ask in front of his friend? She could tell his friend didn't know a thing, do she carefully picked her words.

"My stomach hurts...So I haven't had anything..." she twisted her mouth to the side and pulled her hair out of her messy ponytail and fussed with it.

“Derp? Haha… Do you eat food at all, or just drink? Should I take you out to eat? I think Rick and I were about to catch a bite to eat at a restraint.” Luke said, offering Antje his hand.

“We were? I thought you were blowing me off just now.” Rick said, hovering behind Lucifer.

“Well if Antje would like to eat, I would be happy to treat her. You can take It or leave it Rick.” Luke said, helping Antje up a bit. Rick seemed to make a face and then sighed. “Yeah sure sure, if your friend wants to eat we can go get fast food or whatever she wants.”

Lucifer was wondering if she was even being properly taken care of, or if she was properly taking care of herself. She did seem very skin and sometimes sickly looking. Although he still found her rather beautiful and once he got past her wall of sarcasm, rather pleasurable to talk too. Not that he did not mind some sarcastic spunk. Luke sighed, he felt like he was seriously likeing this girl too much.

Antje shrugged. Rick seemed wary of her, like most men. She tried to remind herself to not make it personal, but it was very easy to. She felt better having Luke there, though, someone she didn't scare away.

"I don't have any money..." she mused, her hand reaching for her empty wallet. She had spent her allowance on art supplies, and she sort of regretted it. She sort of wondered again why Luke liked her. She would feel like a bum if he bought her food, even if she knew he wanted to.

Lucifer even wondered if she ate real food. She never denies or confirms she’s a changeling. Hes not even sure if she’s a human or a Vampire. She still has a heartbeat and she smells so human. So he is not completely sure if she feeds strictly on blood or on some human foods as well. “I am offering to pay. Or at least let me take you to my place and give you something.” He said, not really letting go of her hand.

“Wait… you just said you would go eat with me Luke.” Rick said, ruffling his own hair a bit. “Man you really should not creep on high school girls. You’re like what… 28?”

300 and something, He thought. “28 sounds about right. And I am not creeping.” Luke said with a sigh.

“Sounds about right? You don’t even know your own age? So old losing your memory already Luuke.” Rick laughed out loud.

Luke waved him off, “So, would you like to eat with us Antje?” he looked down at her eyes when he asked.

Antje smiled. Did she really look that young? She stretched a bit. Why not, right? She could go.

"Sure." she found it hard to say no when he was looking at her, she realized. She liked human food, and she probably should eat more of it. It was hard to have any appetite when she felt so lonely or sad. Antje left her choppy layers out of her ponytail, oddly enough it was like a sign of trust, coming out of her shell.

"Where do you want to go?" she looked at Rick, trying to be friendly. He seemed weirded out, but she didn't understand why he was sort of okay around Luke. Antje yawned softly, trying to hide the small mewling noises from her yawn.

Luke couldn’t hide a small smile, she was so cute sleepy. Rick grinned and pointed at Antje, “Do you like Italian food? Because I was totally in the mood for Italian.” Rick laughed a little nervously and glanced at Luke. Luke shrugged, “Its completely up to both of you, you know I never actually eat out.” Luke said, finally letting go of Antje’s hand to cross him arms over his chest.

“Oh oh, well if you don’t like Italian, I know this great Chinese restaurant like a few blocks away from here. Oooh that place is so good. Its sucks working the night shift sometimes because it’s hard to find places open at 1-2am in the morning.” Rick was making an obvious effort to talk with Antje.

Antje shrugged, unused to the sudden burst of friendliness.

"I like sandwiches." she said, quietly. She stood up straighter, shaking away her grogginess.

She felt awkward talking to more than two people at once. She figured it would be awkward for Luke to sit there and watch them eat. She'd feel awkward in his shoes. She wondered if he knew how to telecommunicate. She wasn't bad at it, but it was an old trait. But he said he was 303...but that'd freak him out if she could do it. Poop.

Rick frowned a bit and thought for a long moment, crossing his chest. He soon started to make ‘Hmmm’ sounds. Lucifer let out a heavy sigh, “RICK! Dammit, choose already… we are wasting night. I need to get home before sun set…”

Rick scoffed, “You are your stupid curfew. Who puts a curfew on themselves?” He said, shrugging.

“Rick… Please.” Luke said in a lower tone. “Ok ok, take a chill pill. I think there’s a 24 sub shop a few blocks away from here.” Rick defended, taking a few steps ahead of them, leading the way.

Lucifer smiled at Antje, “Come on, well get some food for ya.”

They walked about a 3 more city blocks then Rick had thought, but Luke was not really bothered by it, it was more time with Antje, Rick was wary of her from the start, just as she said about most males. Although Rick’s relentless teasing of Luke transferred to Antje, meaning he was past her scary demeanor. That was the most fascinating part of humans, given enough time, they adjusted and got past barriers, granted you had to find a human with the ability to do that. Rick was one o those few humans.

When they ordered food, Luke paying for whatever Antje wanted, they sat down at a table together and Rick talked to mostly Antje, asking her relentless questions about her family, school and hobbies. When Lucifer though Antje was getting uncomfortable, he would intercept Rick a question of his own. Of course Lucifer knew all the right things to ask Rick to make him go onto a tangent and forget about Antje.

Currently Rick was talking about Ghosts and why he thinks they exist, “There was this show I saw on TV once, it was about these guys who went hunting for ghosts. They actually found them!” Rick took the last few bites of his sandwich and then continued talking, “ They had the picture evidence and everything… Maybe Luke you should come over some time, I will show you, I videotaped it. I know you hate TV and all, but really you should see it.”

Luke scowled and looked away, “Really no thanks. Besides, your apartment is a mess and your roommate wouldn’t let me sleep during the day while you were in class. Ridiculous.” Lucifer hissed in annoyance, “I really don’t want to spend the night again.”

“Then don’t… go home.” Rick frowned and leaned back in his chair. Luke leaned over and smiled his toothy smile, “No.” he answer simply. “You see this Antje, he says this stuff to just piss me off.” Rick said directing his attention to Antje. “You would come watch the ghost movie with me riiight?” he asked with a smile.

Antje blinked. She'd finished two-thirds of her sandwich, but she rembered that she was thirsty, and she stopped eating her hands in her lap. She bit her tongue a little, trying to sate herself for the time being.

Ghosts? Seriously? If only he knew. She'd been thankful for some of Luke's savings on the hard questions, but she couldn't exactly try to say it out-loud. "Nah, man. I'm afraid of enough stuff as it is. I don't need ghosts to worry about, too." she smiled. She quietly sighed."Besides, my stomach is upset." Mentally she tried to see if Luke could hear her. She felt like she was trying to talk to him through a cup on a string.

I think I need to go... I'm...thirsty. Thinking it made her paler and her throat was dry.

Luke listened to what Antje and smiled at her and laughed a little, Rick started to whine some more until felt an intense feeling of thirst come over him, but he was not really thirsty. When he heard a voice however an extreme and intense wave of fear washed over the connection from Lucifer and then he closed it off. During the time, Lucifer shot out of his seat and whipped himself around so he was staring at the door.

“Luke are you ok?” Rick said, causing Lucifer to turn and look at them. “Oh yeah… I am fine. I just… Yeah. Sorry I think I need to go home. Sorry Rick, I’ll walk Antje home as well. I will see you later dude.” Luke said, waving bye to Rick.

When they both got outside, Lucifer whipped around and looked at her, “Was that you?” He hissed, he was kind of pissed because he had sent extreme waves of fear to whoever the link belonged too. He was so caught off guard. If that was Antje, she might understand since he is a rough and is on the run.

Antje nearly shrieked, but what was she supposed to expect as a reaction from him? Still, she shook a little, trying to nod. "I'm, I'm sorry! I didn't even think it would work but I wanted to try because I couldn't think of an excuse and I'm sorry I shouldn't have tried that on you.." she could only blurt out her fumbling apology before she anxiously pulled her hair and roughly wrenched it into her hair tie before she put her hands to cover her eyes. OHHGOD what did she do? She'd be killed and eaten or maimed or set on fire or locked in a room with no way out forever or something along those lines.

Lucifer let out a long hiss that ended in a sigh. The fear rolling off Antje was in ridiculous amounts, and he could tell she was getting ready to cry. Did he scare her that bad? Has she never seen a Vampire lose its cool? Then again when Vampires with his kind of blood line lose their cool it pretty much scares the pants off anyone, especially if you are a lesser Vampire. He took a long breath and then hesitated about touching her. If he really was the cause of her scare, he probably should not touch her.

He chose to touch her, thinking the worse she could do was pull away, he won’t hold her against her will. He let out the long breath he took in and the graved her wrists and lifted them from her face, “Look, Antje, It’s fine. You just startled me. You know I am on the run… I don’t have rinky dinky Changelings searching for me. You are right when you said you should not have tried that without asking me first.” Luke said a bit sternly, he let go of one of her wrists and covered his eyes and then rubbed his face.

Still holding her other wrist he let it lose a bit and slid his hand on hers and held it. He gave her a few long minutes to get her breathing under control. When he spoke again he tried to make his voice calm and warm, the one he usually uses to make his prey feel calm and relaxed. But he did not speak to her like his prey, just as someone wanting to calm her down a bit, “That… as much as I don’t want to admit it, scared the hell out of me. From there I just went into defensive mode, I didn’t mean to scare you…. Antje, please don’t be afraid of me, I promise nothing bad is going to happen. I am not mad either, ok?” Taking a deep breath of her scent again, Lucifer tried to make sure he was really calming her.

She quietly waited with him for her hands to stop shaking, and she was nearly about to bite off her lower lip to stop it from trembling. He'd only reacted the way he should have, and she knew his apology was sincere; she was blown away by how powerful he was. But she realized something, she'd seen more of what he'd tried to hide. Whatever he was hiding from, at that. She took a deep breath to steady herself before looking at his hand in hers. The man she'd seen in his fearful message was a different him. He'd had long platinum hair and the red tones in his eyes were much more pronounced and he was wearing the stupid golden colors of an heir and he had a stupid necklace and he'd lied he was Lucifer Lancaster and he was one of the most powerful vampires around and she just wished she hadn't tried to alert him that she had to go.

She could have made something up and told him later. He could have stayed Luke.

"You're name is Lucifer, right?" she quietly asked. She nearly cringed, terrified that she would provoke him with his old name. She was idly worried he would kill her, but she figured better. She had a tattoo. She was accounted for. But she didn't think that it would really matter. She could sort of tell that even though she'd seen him, or his truth and his fears, he couldn't tell much about her.
