And continuing from the interest check conversation, WlfSamurai , then I'll try creating a fighter. That seems to fit into the party composition and should be straightforward enough for a newbie to play, I think. I'll look how far I get with the materials I have for now, and ask if anything comes up, does that work?

Not exactly sure how to work this out yet but I'm currently considering the Traveler as Cas' source. Just taking shots in the dark here ngl, haven't played a sorcerer before much less one with Divine Soul as an origin hahaha

Also maybe a bit off-topic in a way, but - WlfSamurai , you recommended I buy access to the full players' handbook via dndbeyond, I tried making an account, but... it won't let me. Sign up appears to be possible only through Google, but the button is completely unresponsive. Looking through the customer support section, it seems I'm not the only one with the problem, but that's it, apparently nobody knows a solution. So I suppose I'm stuck with the basic rule book for the time being, and my best bet is now looking to get it delivered from Amazon or something.

Nah, I'm sure your sheet will turn out great!

Also, you can try pdfs online for the meantime (for both the player's handbook, and other books). They are a bother to flip through though, and it took me a while to get my way around. I'd recommend reading through, but if you forget mechanics, I'd recommend just googling online. Much easier than scrolling through a 300 page pdf.

Thanks! I'll see what I can find. And yeah, I can imagine, the basic rules are a 180 page pdf already and it's convinced me I want a physical version sooner rather than later so I can flip back and forth more easily.

The trinkets are not necessarily pointless, you can work them into your backstory and the DM might latch onto it to incorporate it in the story.
