Futuristic ARK: Survival of the Fittest (Closed)

"Well, the baby's a few months away," Jack shrugged, "We've got plenty of time." In just a week they'd gotten to their current point. A few months down the line and the question might change from 'how do we take care of another human being' to 'why are we doing all this for only four people?'

Jack looked over the houses, "And after last night's storm, once we go crate hunting again and get the last medallion, I want us all to sit down and think about what we need from our home." Because that would determine what they built to that end.

"Well, Anna needs to rest" Roan hummed. He knew she was tired. He didnt want to wake her when she had a medallion, "So who all is going?"

"Actually," Jack turned to Roan, "I was hoping you and I could go, make it a quick trip and be back before noon."

"She's eating breakfast," Jack explained, "I was going to tell her before we left." He whistled for Janus, "You taking Cicero?"

Roan nodded, "Yea, it'll be faster that way. Oh, by the way, Pego found his way home."

"Pego?" Jack was confused for a moment until he remembered the pegomastax that had vanished, "Your pegomastax? How'd that happen?" Jack had thought it had fallen down a hole or gotten eaten by compies or something.

Roan shrugged, "I dunno, but Anna is terrified of it... dont tell her I said that.."

"Huh." Jack didn't think Anna was scared of anything, "Well, might need to find a way to contain it." He shrugged, "I'll meet you by the gate." He rode Janus back to his house to go tell Vera that he and Roan were going crate hunting, and he'd be back soon.

Vera sat, still eating. She was mostly enjoying the fire, and turned her head to look at Jack when he entered, "Hey, handsome."

Roan nodded. He wasn't going to wake Anna up. They would hopefully be back before she even started to get up, so he didnt see much need for it.

"Hey, beautiful," Jack smiled, "Listen, Roan and I are going crate hunting, we'll be back before noon. Anna didn't get any sleep last night, so you'll have the place to yourself, is that okay?"

Jack realized they didn't have any form of actual clock. He leaned out a window to see, "Late morning?" He guessed. "Maybe we can come up with a clock?"

"I'll try and figure something out." Vera nodded. She figured she could easily use the sun somehow, since it moved through the day.

"Alright," Jack smiled and patted Vera's thigh, "I'll be back." He left to go join Roan at the gate.

"You ready?", he asked Roan when he met him at the gate. They could see more crates than normal dropping out the sky in the aftermath of the storm. It was almost like something above was trying to provide relief.

"Yea, it looks like it might be easier today for you to find one." Roan said, gesturing to the tons of drops visible from the gate, "Lets go."

"Yep," Jack opened the gate and whistled the spino over to protect against anything dangerous trying to get through while they were gone.

Just like the other day, when they could get to a crate they were able to open anything up to purple tier, but not beyond, so red and yellow crates had to have better loot if they couldn't be opened. And just like the other day, Jack's luck with finding a ringed purple crate containing a respawn medallion was garbage. "Blueprints, recipes, phiomia saddle, a couple pieces of ghillie," Jack sighed as he looked over what had come of this hunt so far, "I think the crates are messing with me."

"Why dont I try my luck then? Maybe ill find one and I can give it to you," Roan said as they continued, "So.. what are we going to do about thw baby? I mean. Its a little ways away but thats something we should focus on. "

"Yeah, go ahead," Jack nodded in agreement with Roan's suggestion. It couldn't hurt anything to let Roan try. As for what they were going to do about the baby, "Babies have been pretty easy, so far," Jack said, relating to the raptors. "Make sure they're fed and safe, play with them, and teach them." He shrugged, "We're all gonna sit down, figure out how to cover our bases, and make the place safe for it."

Almost on cue, the very next purple ringed crate Roan opened contained a respawn medallion. "You gotta be kidding me."

Roan laughed out, "Your luck is awful. Here."

Roan took the medallion and gave it to Jack, "Thats everyone covered, right?"

Jack took the medallion and put it in his inventory, where the tiny implant and element cord then appeared around his neck. "I think that is everyone." Roan found one first, then Anna when she ran off, Jack and Vera together found only one, which was around Vera's neck, and now Jack had one. "We might have to go hunting again when the baby comes, but for now I think that's everyone." Animals probably couldn't use the medallions, so they turned around to head back home.

By now the sun was high in the sky, midday, and when they came back most of the animals were up and about. Anna was still asleep in Roan's house when they got back, but otherwise things were as normal for this time of day.

Outside, Vera had built an odd contraption from a spear and stones placed out in a specific order. She looked up at the men coming back and smiled, "You ordered a clock! I made one.. kinda... its a sundial. Uses the sun's orientation in the sky to show us what time it is."

"You.. are a genius," Roan chuckled.

"Huh," Jack looked at the sundial, "You've been busy." He smiled at her, "We've got all the medallions, so when Anna wakes up we'll be able to start planning." He went to go unload the blueprints and odd bits they'd collected in their crate hunt, coming back to put down a couple tables and benches near the sundial.

"Alright," Jack laid down some notes and inksticks so they could sketch plans. "Has Anna woken up yet?", he asked Vera.

Vera shook her head, "No, she's still asleep. I checked in on her a little bit ago. She looks tired."

Jack shrugged, "Roan said she didn't get a lot of sleep last night." He smiled and offered Vera a seat, "We found some more recipes and stuff."

A couple minutes later came a loud scream before the window of Roan's house came off, kicked out from the inside. When it hit the ground the pegomastax was on top in a cage of arrows. Anna's pike came through the window next, narrowly missing the thing as it scurried to Roan for safety.

"Well you weren't kidding," Jack bit his tongue to keep from laughing.
