Standing in front of Eeriel was an earth buddy, and its smell told her that it was the exact same buddy as the one that escaped before. The buddy was fixated on the rubble beneath her. Did it was awed by what she had done? Or did she just killed its parent? Whatever the reason she didn't care. The cat drew the buddy's attention with a rock to its face before launching another buddy ball!

"Oh, you are a new one, mmhhmm." Calliope grew excited at the sight of the Metal Buddy. "You will make an excellent addition to my team, mmhhmm." She pulled the Ball from her pack and threw it at the buddy, clenching her fists in anticipation.
Calliope's cheeks puffed in annoyance. How did she fail to catch it, she had been getting so good at this. But it hadn't run away yet, at least. "Please do not make this difficult, mmhhmm. It is for research, mmhhmm. I want to make you part of a team, mmhhmm." She grabbed another Ball and tossed it at the Metal Buddy.
The attempt failed as the creature escaped it's energy based confinement. Yet he would remain unwavering as he took aim with second ball already in hand. With this, he'd attempt to capture the creature again. To him, it felt like any number of labors he'd undertaken in the past.
"Aight Imma head out" said Izuru while looking over his currently balled Buddies. Time to head on back to the Professor so that he could get started on some intensive training. Hopefully Prof had some gravity training so Rhinox had sprout some big muscles. As for the others, they would also get their own training. Sprinting back towards the lab with his arms behind his back. Izuru began running numbers in his brain so he could better prepare.
The half-heatedly-thrown ball hit the light buddy, before shaking and chiming with success.
Glacier & Snowbolt stared in shock, surprised by the unexpected success. Then, Glacier turned to look at his buddy. "Well, you did it, Snowbolt!... The light buddy is ours now!" Snowbolt twirled in response, happy to have done it.
"Hmm... would you like a third type, Snowbolt?" The buddy's eyes widened, before it nodded enthusiastically; Glacier smiled. "Then, let us return to the lab..."
...
As the two approached the lab once again, Glacier called out to Blacnhard. "Professor!... I would like to merge buddies again." He gestured his head to Snowbolt. "My buddy here, and a recently caught light buddy... with Snowbolt as the host, of course."
Meanwhile, Glacier would also refill on his supplies for the next trip out.
It failed, yet what more was there to think? What more was there to do? He would merely try again -- repeating the practiced motion of throwing the ball like any laborer.
Calliope stared in astonishment as the Metal Buddy broke out of the Ball. "That... but... you can't do that, mmhhmm!" She grabbed another Ball from her pack and chucked it at the Buddy.
Snow crunched beneath his feet as he approached the now still Buddy Ball and picked it up.
"Welcome aboard, friend. You'll be let out soon, probably when I go back. I see no need to have you all walking around with me at the moment." Marcus spoke to the ball in his hand, expecting no response. He then put the ball away into the makeshift sack he'd made for himself. The journey, then, continued on. Deep footprints were left in the snow, wherever he so tread.
Calliope walked over and picked the Buddy Ball up, pressing the button to release the new friend in front of her. She kneeled down and squinted at it. "I am very happy to have you on my team, mmhhmm. Why did you have to waste two of my Buddy Balls, hhhmmm? We're all going to have to try our best and make sure we do as much research as possible, mmhhmm." She patted it's head gently and smiled. "Now, let's get back to searching, mmhhmm." She stood up, stretched, and returned to her work.
Fortune seemed to smile on him with giving him another buddy of his preferred affinity. Only one more would be needed. Hopefully, the Ice Zone will start offering an Ice Buddy soon enough. But for now, he'd have to worry about catching this one first. A ball already in hand, he took intuitive aim at the creature and threw the ball to try to add the creature to his growing collection.
Eeriel shivered as she arrived at the ice zone. She wasn't ised to this kind of temperature. Even during winter she's usually just spent her entire days lazing inside.
Still, she braced the cold and look for her next buddy.
Fortune giveth and misfortune taketh away. The Fates could be as kind as they are fickle. The creature had managed to escape and Marcus could only shake his head in response. Though, he couldn't claim to have particular need of another lightning type, it would be nice.
The search would continue. And he knew not what he might encounter. He trekked deeper into the snow-y lands, searching for another creature in the place of the one he'd lost.
Calliope points out the approaching Fire Buddy to Patina and Umbra. "There's our quarry, mmhhmm! You two cut off it's escape, I'll get the Ball ready, mmhhmm." She pulled the Buddy Ball from her bag and tossed it as the other two got into position.
Marcus stood still instinctively, waiting for either it to show itself or to gauge it's distance. Standing like a Sentinel, Marcus stood ready should the creature reveal itself. However, it did not stand still and wait as predators did. Nor did it make any noise. Instead, he could hear the noise getting farther...and farther away....
Until there was nothing.
After the creature's fleeing could no longer be heard for about 10 seconds, the silence broke with Marcus' movement. He continued his prowl of the ice fields with ball in hand, ready to catch whatever creature fell into his sight.
The Ball missed and the Fire Buddy headed left, but was cut off by Patina. "Good work, don't let it get away, mmhhmm." Calliope grabbed another Ball from her pouch and threw it at the Buddy.
Arriving back at the lab and seeing the professors wrinkly ass face after having left this place without Buddies. Izuru immediately requested use of the training facilities so he could train all of his Buddies. Bringing out Rhinox for the special training he promised. The first step was preliminary stretches, which looked a little weird on Rhinox's little body. He started the small rhino with one-HUNDRED pull ups, one hundred sit-ups and one hundred squats. Izuru funneled some of the Professors spare bait into Rhinox to keep it alive.
Again the Buddy dodged att he last moment, the ball smacking into the ground. As it tried to u-turn, Umbra came down and blocked it this time. "Excellent team work, keep it up, mmhhmm. We'll get him, mmhhmm!" She tossed another Ball, feeling the last one in her pocket as she waited to see how this one faired.
"Keep shoving down the protein, Rhinox. We can't be outdone by the other Buddy Tamers" stated Izuru while doing his best to instruct the small metal Buddy. So far they hadn't been able to improve any of Rhinox's ability parameters. The minor improvement earned from fighting Mudrock was the closest they had gotten. Borrowing a whiteboard from the Professor. Izuru outlined the ways in which they could gradually improve Rhinox. Self Improvement was a gradual process so while they needed to be quick, they couldn't rush.
The Ball went high, plopping into a lava pool and sinking in a hiss of smoke. Meanwhile, the Fire Buddy leapt off a rock and over Umbra, disapearing among some jagged caves. Calliope smiled and held her arm out for Umbra to land, rubbing his neck again. "It is okay, mmhhmm. We did well, though, ultimately the mistake was mine, mmhhmm. We will continue to train and improve, mmhhmm." She held her other hand out to Patina and scritched her drill. "You'll see, we'll become the best Buddy researchers of all time, mmhhmm." She helped Umbra lift off and wiped her face before returning the scarf. "Alright, back at it again, mmhhmm."
"Why do you looks like a floating ice cream cone made of lingering anger?" Eeriel asked the new creature in front of her, the lightning buddy only replied with a buzzing noise.
"Whatever. Get in the ball!"The cat didn't waste anymore time as she hit the buddy with a rock and then followed by a ball.
"Alright so none of that seemed to work... but maybe if we keep pushing. Your body will just naturally accept change and you'll get better at this" said Izuru while wiping everything off his whiteboard to try other stuff. Making a very bad drawing of Rhinox. He then added muscles to the drawing to motivate the little rhino creature. Yes even Rhinox who was currently getting pushed to his limits could become a stronger buddy.
Calliope glanced up as something flew over head once more, shielding her eyes from the sun. Another bird like figure circled with Umbra. She smiled beneath her face covering and picked up a stone as she reached for her last Buddy Ball. "I am very glad to see one of you again, mmhhmm. But I'm afraid I'm down to my last Ball, mmhhmm. So I will put everything into this throw, mmhhmm. But, if I believe in the heart of the rock, I can't lose, mmhhmm." She pulled her arm back. "Prepare yourself, mmhhmm!" Both objects hurtled toward the Shadow Buddy.
