Fantasy Aether: The Age of Light OOC [being rebooted]

IIRC the population of Medieval Europe in the year 1000 was close to 40 million. Perhaps we could use that as a reference.

I am now going to bed. See y'all ^_^

Ah but Aether did go through a near-extinction event to be fair. Perhaps the country is in the middle of a population boom - for humans at least.

Hey, y'all. I had an idea for a character that might fit in this world, but I don't know if there are too many people reserving a spot already. Are you still accepting characters?

There it is. Let me know if I did something to mangle your carefully crafted lore and I'll fix it or go back to the drawing board as necessary.

I like it a lot!
I am adjusting the role of Inquisitors so they don't come after you for simply talking out of turn, rather they actually target evil dooers and those who would actually undermine the church so that might need a slightly adjustment.

Apart from that, great! What do you have planned for him though? He's a blacksmith with no real combat capabilities, will he remain in Alcamoth or?

Obviously Dwarf-skill leveled blacksmiths are a dying breed and highly in demand - we could get him travelling around with that perhaps? Up to you. I just didn't want him to be left behind if everyone moves on to other things haha!

To begin with, yes, nothing too crazy. It depends largely on what comes his way.

Since his mentor is a pretty old dwarf, I'm thinking he might eventually get roped into something in Gularum and have to travel there for some reason or other. Maybe Lord Devon (or whoever's in charge over there at the moment) has some pressing need for capable smiths of Hogan's caliber and Hogan, unwilling to travel, sends Arryn in his stead. Lots of hijinks a single human in a Dwarven society might be able to get involved in.

Alternatively, he might inadvertently get wrapped up in some kind of political scandal if he stays in Alcamoth. Arryn has humble beginnings with an affinity for the poorer, non-noble, non-church segment of the population that tends to suffer most when high lords play the game of thrones (as Varys said). In addition, Hogan's Forge is known as the best smithy in the city and is likely frequented by some high profile nobles, knights, and/or paladins. Perhaps if he stays in Alcamoth, he can somehow get involved in some kind of political maneuvering between bickering noble houses scrabbling for power. Maybe he overhears some plotting he shouldn't and has to decide what to do about it. Take it to the Church and/or Empire or just pretend he didn't hear anything. Or maybe he falls for someone noble, above his station, and he has to find a way to deal with that kind of situation.

As far as a lack of combat ability, he has no real training, it's true; however, he is a very big dude. Put some armor on him, give him a shield and a sword/axe/spear, and I'm guessing he could do some serious damage even with what little real combat experience he has. If not that, someone could just hand him a crossbow and all he'd have to do is point and shoot. I think combat situations for him are definitely not out of the question, but I'm not sure yet quite how he'd find himself fighting in an organized group to get to that point.

Lots of possibilities here and I'm open to just about anything, so we'll just see where things take us.

Ooo what if uses a war hammer eventually . War hammers are cool.

But yes, sounds great! The prologue will lead into the Kings wedding and they'll be a festival. I imagine someone Hogan would have a stand. Good excuse to meet lots of movers and shakers and think about what to do next.

Yes, we like war hammers. War hammers are good.

I was thinking about that wedding as well. It wouldn't be unreasonable, I don't think, for there to be some kind of ceremonial sword presented to the king (or someone; maybe the victor of a tournament held in celebration of the wedding?) that could be made and presented by Arryn. Or, maybe the king asked Hogan and Arryn to craft the ring he plans to present to his new wife so he has to meet with the king for that reason. Or maybe some noble family just had a really big order for a whole bunch of horseshoes and they use the festival as a place to make a delivery in bulk.

Sounds good!

I added currency to the Lore page, might be adjusted.

Short story: If you're mage, you're gonna be rich.

I'd like to get this started on Friday at the latest, so if we could get the rest of those CS up soon I'd appreciate it. <3

Mkay. Is it okay if I switched my character to a full elf, because I had an interesting idea for his backstory

We're kinda maxed on elves buddy, you might have the opportunity for a second character later who's an elf - really we need more humans maybe an extra dwarf

But I already planned on making a half elf. Damnit. Alright then.

what was your idea btw?
Well, the idea was that, as a baby, he was left on an ancient stump near Arcanlux, swaddled in the shedded skin of a gigantic snake, with a beautiful sword of unknown origin resting beside him. As he grew up, he felt an odd connection to the forest, different from what other elven folk felt. It felt less like a call to come home to the forest, but a call for him to leave, and find something. But he never knew exactly what it was he was supposed to find.

From that, I would expand it, revealing where he came from.

Oh, and this is the sword:

interesting.

Never say never, keep it in the back of your mind.

So does that mean I can make him, or does it mean I should make a different character and I might be able to make him later as a second character?

Put him on the back burner for now, if you still wanna do a Half-Elf with a similar story that's fine or do something completely different.
