Fantasy Aether: The Age of Light OOC [being rebooted]

yeah. i was just thinking it along the lines of the usual power decline. That way different types of mages can be balanced out. A mage that can conjure flames or summon beast having their power decline at the same rate as a mage that can control dreams or heal seems a bit unbalanced. I know we don't have those types of matches i mentioned first but it's just in case. Because in my mind they likely exist somewhere. but that's the sci-fi in my head going on. things gotta be explained :P

You're gonna be in demand a lot in this RP, hahaha!
Guys wanting to run off into a place like the wetlands without a Healer will die quickly. You're gonna make a fortune!

just like in MMOs :) i main healers in anything that has the role available so i know just how much my role is needed lol

Is there interbreeding between any of the races (like half-elves and the like), or are they more homogeneous? If there is a genetic melting pot, are those not of pure blood or breeding ostracized in any way?

Half Elves are a thing, Half Dwarves are not.

Also welcome <3

Just remember who gets blamed for a party wipe! xD
i've never been blamed cause everyone knows i do my job well :D it's normally the tanks and dps that get blamed for not knowing what to do. the great thing about being a healer is that you don't have to know how any of the dungeons work ahead of time or who to focus in order because your concern is just keeping people alive :D and people know if they try and flame the healer then the healer can just leave and they can wait about 10 to 15 minutes until another one comes XD but i'm a nice healer. i've yet to quit on a party even if they are bad.

I was always a dps man myself, but that's awesome! Good healers really are invaluable, I was just referencing a funny stereotype about healers xP

They went to war because the then King fell in love with someone else. Maybe it was a plot by another noble family and that what sparked the war.

So I quickly made a Map for the main families/territories that they hold.
Astoras are the Royal Family and currently the guys in charge
Silverwards are the second most powerful, and have the largest army. Warriors.
WolfSwifts are a blank slate right now
As are ShieldHearts and Hawklights.
DarkBloods are kinda odd, probably coz they live right next to the Wetlands and Dark Fort. @Joker987 I was thinking this might be the family who screwed you, if you want to rename the Ravens.
East Hedge is neutral, but the Ashen Keep is currently controlled by the DarkBloods, Abendrot Abendrot Perhaps this keep used to be under control of your family. I might add an extra City in the area, for a bit more influence. Might adjust East Hedge so the neutral area is way smaller.
I like the map, though I'm not sure where the Varnelles feature in here. Were you planning on shaving off a bit of territory from the Darkbloods? In the draft I have right now, their keep is situated on the mountain just below Lake Anduin, though I think that might be a bit too close to the capital.

In any case, I'll probably be developing the family's history a bit more after I finish my character.

Also, what kind of languages are spoken on Aether? Do the elves beyond Merluminal still speak Elvish? Do the dwarves speak Dwarvish?

Yeye, I mentioned above that the white neutral zone is probably gonna be adjusted a wee bit.

But it might be easier if the Varnelles don't actually own any land right now? Perhaps there's an estate somewhere they're clinging on to. The map just shows the provinces and which Noble family is currently responsible for it, there's a lot of smaller noble families who have land within each one.

Dwarves probably have their own way of saying hello and stuff if anyone wants to develop it, Lumen have ancient Elvish but it's a bit piecemeal

Also, the Ashen Keep is a blank slate right now though currently under Dark blood control. I might add a small town to it as well. May wanna use that as their original land perhaps?

I might slide into your DMs coz I got plans there.

I wouldn't mind creating some of the Dwarven language

Khazalid (Native Dwarf Tongue):
Deldren: Children of Iron, Dwarves
Deldre: Dwarf
Atrast Vak: Honor to you, common Dwarf greeting
Urk: Orc
Umgi: Humans
Rik: King/Lord
Gromthi: Ancestor
Gorog: Beer/Ale
Elgi: Elves
Baruk Khazad: Retribution through blood! (Dwarf battle-cry)

Just a couple quick terms

Just don't go to crazy coz honestly I might not be able to remember half of it hahahha

Hello/Goodbye is probably enough for simply regular use. But do what ya fancy!

I won't add anything else besides that, I imagine Dwarves don't speak their language to outsiders often, if at all, so it wouldn't come up often.

Also would it be possible for the Dwarves to eventually try and colonize some of the mountains to the north? If and when they manage to get their shit together in Gulorum

Issue is numbers. It's hard to colonize when there's scarcely 500-600 dwarves left across an entire world. And

Issue would probably be if they had the viable population numbers for it. If there's barely 1000 Dwarves left stretched over an entire world, sometimes it's just a slow decline to extinction no matter what you do.

But hey, never give up hope and all that.

How many people are there on Aether in total?

IIRC the population of Medieval Europe in the year 1000 was close to 40 million. Perhaps we could use that as a reference.

I am now going to bed. See y'all ^_^
