Fantasy Aether: The Age of Light OOC [being rebooted]

Yup, this is awesome. I can't wait to create a faction bent on breaking the churches power- reads about inquisidor
Hm.....maybe not the best of ideas XD

It's rather hard to be completely Anti-Church anyway. I know it's tempting to have that knee jerk reaction. But honestly, when the world almost ended due to some cultist maniacs, you can kinda understand why the Church's approach is what it is.

Even if it is dangerous I think that a faction that challenges the church could add an interesting level to the political dynamics of the world. So long as I don't go Cultist/tread VERY carefully so that the church can't warrant completely destroying me. Btw, if you can't tell I'm really invested in the political aspect of things. Even if it takes a long time to build up I want to have political weight, in any case it's gonna be interesting interacting with the church/other factions no matter what road I take.

But why would they want to take down the church?

Not necessarily "take down" the Church, but call it out on some of it's darker sides. For example: The churches lack of tolerance for other belief's (Prime example being the elves) or maybe those who are scared of the churches increasing power and dominance over the lands. maybe even something along the lines of The Protestant Reformation? Couldn't there also be internal forces at play, such as power hungry/corrupt higher-ups? Just kinda throwing out some ideas, could be something of a story arch down the line maybe? In any case I'm cool with not screwing with the church, don't want to be slain XD

No doubt the church - such as its scale - has its fair share of darker individuals. I haven't really filled them all out yet but I consider the Grand Cleric Lawful Good, the Paladin Boss dude (Whose title I forget) Lawful Neutral and the Inquisitors Leader Lawful Evil. (But then again, she's kinda crazy). I think together they make a cute little team. But yes, absolutely. I'm happy to pursue this idea if you'd like to develop it as a slow burn.
I think however, since the Church is so integrated with the Empire at pretty much every level, and has been for almost a thousand years now any conflict will have to be internal, rather than external. Short of a war with the Orcs or Lumen.

You may have some support from an ancestor worshiping Dwarf, when he's not obsessed with his own work xP

Was wondering how would a non-mage do against a mage. Like say my warrior with a hammer and rifle goes up against a mage, is he boned, or does he stand a chance?
Also, perfectly normal dagger my ass :closed eyes open smile:

Alright, my charrie is ready to be torn apart! :closed eyes open smile:

Looks good to me! I can't find anything to pick at!

How effective is Thunderer by the way? What does it use for ammunition and how much does he carry with him? Is it easily replaced?

Maybe change Patron God to Favored Ancestor to avoid confusion, part from that....

Ye!

We could also have some potential fun with Lord Devon down the road, if there's a leadership contest for the remaining Dwarves. Perhaps Devon is actually the most competent one, with a vision for the future.

Oh, the internal struggle.

It's incredibly powerful, able to tear through armor fairly Easily, but reloading can be a bit slow, like a minute. As for ammo, I was thinking steel shot, which he has a decent supply of, generally enough to last an expedition

And will do!

Also that would be great, i was hoping for something along those lines! This'll be great! :closed eyes open smile:

Coooooooooooooool sounds gooood.
I think a Dwarf killing another Dwarf must be a Terrible crime tbh. Like, more so than usual murder lol

Considering how few there are, it's probably on par with worshipping the god of death in front of the church xD

But aye, Dwarf murder would be about the worst thing you could do in their society. I wonder what they would do, perhaps send them to the Wetlands or try to send them to the Ashen Mountains on a suicide mission (if they can make it past the Paladins)

Dunno, depends if there's even

I mean, depends on the Mage and what type of magic they can use. There's nothing stopping a mage from wearing armor and learning how to use a sword and shield as well as anyone else. If you shoot a mage in the face, they're gonna die. Hahaha

MAP FAMILIES.jpg

So I quickly made a Map for the main families/territories that they hold.
Astoras are the Royal Family and currently the guys in charge
Silverwards are the second most powerful, and have the largest army. Warriors.
WolfSwifts are a blank slate right now
As are ShieldHearts and Hawklights.
DarkBloods are kinda odd, probably coz they live right next to the Wetlands and Dark Fort. Joker987 Joker987 I was thinking this might be the family who screwed you, if you want to rename the Ravens.
East Hedge is neutral, but the Ashen Keep is currently controlled by the DarkBloods, Abendrot Abendrot Perhaps this keep used to be under control of your family. I might add an extra City in the area, for a bit more influence. Might adjust East Hedge so the neutral area is way smaller.

Requires a weekly ritual rather than Monthly, Mages act odd for around a day after - over-stimulated, mind works faster. Maybe kinda tetchy. Bit like a magical PMS.
hmmm. a weekly ritual seems a bit frequent. and would greatly nerf the mages since that would mean their power drains much faster. Maybe different types of mages require different time frequencies. Like the stronger ones won't need to do the ritual as much unless they use a great amount of power. My character deals with healing which wouldn't use as much mana as, for example, summoning or conjuring anything. But it depends on how in depth you want to go with the whole thing because I feel there's a lot of potential room to build the rules mages have to follow.

Thing is, simply with how time will pass in the RP - you'll probably find you'll be writing about doing a ritual less than once every two months. So I simply thought, hey, lower the time a bit so it can be explored a bit more. Plus, we can have the power dip start on like, day 6 rather than being a constant decline.

A Day in the RP will probably be a Weekish IRL I expect.

yeah. i was just thinking it along the lines of the usual power decline. That way different types of mages can be balanced out. A mage that can conjure flames or summon beast having their power decline at the same rate as a mage that can control dreams or heal seems a bit unbalanced. I know we don't have those types of matches i mentioned first but it's just in case. Because in my mind they likely exist somewhere. but that's the sci-fi in my head going on. things gotta be explained :P
