Realistic or Modern Zombie Apocalypse

Aidan could only continue letting out exasperated groans. Echo was proving to be a burden the majority of the time and a hindrance the rest. It was understandable that the girl didn't want to stick around but she could try working a little harder at keeping them from getting killed. Regardless, it seems that they would be let inside. The group inside may be wary of them but they were in no way heartless. If they were to see that Jennifer was clearly wounded then of course they would be let inside.

Once Echo took her leave to do who knows what in the woods, Aidan let out a sigh of relief. This was quickly interrupted by the fact that Jennifer got out of the car. She knew that Jennifer's wound would have been getting worse but she didn't know how bad it would be at this point. At her collapse, Aidan couldn't help but run over to her. She offered an arm to help support her up. Not that it was as bad a time as running from a horde of zombies but now was still not the time to pass out.

Because one of the women in the other group was injured, Tiffany decided that it wasn't wise to leave them out in the cold or at the mercy of the infected. In fact, she should actually care about their well-being. Because how can she care for her child if she doesn't for anyone else? When one of them collapse, Tiffany immediately walked over to help her out. "What kind of wound does she have?"

Tammy looked up into the sky she was about to go take a test for her med class. Of course she didn't study. She smiled and looked back down ahead noticed two people giving her a slight glance it was hot so she wore a red crop top with the word "dope," on it. She remembered the smell of the soft air and all the people around her busy as a bee going from class to-

Tammy snapped back to reality. She was walking among the city. For the most part it's been silent. She left her apartment a couple months ago but it's felt so much longer. Time melts into one. The earth stopped turning. Her family probably has no idea if she was alive or not... they probably think she's dead. Tammy went to school in a different state so they only communicated through text. She had her phone on play. Playing an old album she liked of calm zen style music. It helped her calm down, feel human.

She climbed up on top a liquor store rooftop to assess her gear. "Okay." Tammy muttered.

' one pistol with 12 bullets' helpful but she wasn't trained in firearms so it's just a threat;' baby formula, a crowbar with lots of blood, 3 cans of mystery food, a carton of rice milk, 2 snack bars, empty bottle of water, a knife and a new bag of jerky.'

Realistically at her calorie intake this was about 2 days of rationalized food. She needs to make it last enough time to get more.... "fuck..." she grunted out of options.

She climbed down and continued to walk the liquor store was burned up and no supplies were left inside. supplies are hard to come by even though so many are dead. She heard a team of corpsers and went into hiding she used a tree for cover and hoisted up into it no making as much as a single sound. Slowly;they moved by one by one. The smell was much like a bag with rotten pig meat in it. It was so gross seeing them move she wanted to go postal and make all of them die. She can't though....not this many by herself. She looked a few blocks away and saw movement. Of people. They went inside a building it was at least 3 blocks away. Once this horde passed she would have to sneak over there and take a peek who they were. Maybe they would leave and she could grab some stuff from them. Or medical supplies she could use.

The moans got louder and louder and the herd of corpsers finished passing by. She waited for an opening making sure none would catch site of her. Then made her way toward the building.

"Surgeon?" Austin blinked at the woman, she'd probably do a much better job than him poking around in Jennifer's wound. "I hope you we're at least a Resident. We've got what we need." Well the minimum, and what I'd need. A surgeon might be more picky on what she uses, depends I guess. Then Jennifer was out and walking, but not for long. "You we're supposed to wait." He told her almost scolding, then he put his gun back in his waist band. The man would have helped her inside and even stood to take either the strangers place or Aidan's place if they'd rather, "She just told you it was a piece of wood. Most likely though there's still little pieces that need to be taken out before it decides to get worse." Turning his head Austin looked back at the surgeon, "I'd planned on giving it a thorough search and cleaning, but you might do a better job than me. Surgeon hands and all."

"I was actually an attending." She smiled, remembering her days of bossing around the interns and residents. "But yeah. I can can out the pieces of would. I was pretty great at my job." She stated, not trying to be cocky. She just said it like it was a fact.

"Tiffany? Can you please hold Josh? If I'm going to do this I'm going to need both of my hands to work." She asked.

"Do you have tweezers? Needles? Thread? Anything that I could pull out the pieces of would with and then of it's deep something that I could close her up with?" She questioned.

Jennifer tried to hold back the pain so she could be somewhat productive in this conversation. This was about her, after all. The sudden arrival of Aidan by her side and a woman from the other group made her feel a sense of humanity among survivors. Maybe it really isn't all gone? Jennifer ponder that for a moment. Aidan stuck her arm out, and Jennifer grabbed it. She needed some help right now, as the pain itself is excruciating. Struggling to get herself to her feet, Jennifer looked over at Austin, who seemed to be annoyed that she stepped out of the car.

"I'm sorry," she struggled to say, "I thought it would be a good time to come out and address everyone myself. And this pain is just getting worse. There wasn't anymore time to waste."

Jennifer hoped Austin would understand. This was about her, after all.

After listening to them talk about surgery, she turned to the woman who said she was a surgeon.

"Whatever you can do, please, help. I'll be in your debt. But as of this current moment, this thing is getting worse. God knows what is going on. I need you do please do whatever you can."

She then paused and looked at Aidan and Austin, and the others there.

"If we do this, I am going to have to have you guys hold me down. It will hurt a lot. And I will jerk around and squirm about while she does her work in my wound. If I move around, it'll be almost impossible, if not, impossible, for her to fix me up. And it could make things much more worse. So, if she does this surgery to tend to this wound, I need you, anyone to hold me down, so she can do her job."

The shear thought of pain from it being worked on was already making her uneasy. Dealing with the pain alone from it now was terrible. It felt as if someone took a knife, sliced open a piece of her stomach, dug inside, and stuck needles everywhere rapidly. It only got worse as time went on. And knowing that she'll have hands in there, she can't imagine the pain. But she knows it has to be done. Time to grow some balls of steel.

She took a deep breath, closed her eyes, and looked towards the ground for a moment. She then looked up, let her breath go, and opened her eyes. She looked at the surgeon.

"When you're ready, let's please do this," she said weakly, trembling from the pain, and the fear of the pain she is about to experience.

"Yeah, yeah." Austin said, heading back over to the car and reaching in to grab his back. "Tweezers, fishing line, and a fishing hook to boot. I heated the hook and compressed the barb as much as I could, but it's not perfect. Someone else has that antiseptic from before, and I even have a working flashlight to see better w ith." Austin looked from the surgeon to Jennifer, "And no, nothing to numb the area. So it is going to hurt like hell as you'd expect, now let's get inside before it gets worse or we get caught out here shall we?" The man moved towards the door to the mill and held it open for everyone to enter.

The fact that the woman was an attending put Austin more at ease over letting her do it. He was officially off the hook, so he'd rest up here and hang around to see if the kid made it back maybe before he left. Though there was the plan about getting Jennifer her medicine along with re-stocking himself on medical supplies. Austin groaned inwardly, maybe he'd just go on his own and get it done himself, possibly drop the medicine back off. How was it he was getting sucked into helping these people again?

Hailey sighed with relief when no one in the group of people seemed to notice her. She took a look around and spotted a tiny grocery store. It was about a mile run, but this wasn't a big deal. She ran a lot now days. Most of the area she would be running through was out of the group's view, so it was honestly a quick get away. Hailey took a final look at the group, and looked back to her destination. She began running full speed, nearly tripping a few times, but she managed to reach the parking lot without a scar. She bent over and took a moment to get her breathing back to normal before she pulled out her knife.

The grocery store had obviously already been broken into a few times, so she would have to look closely if she actually wanted to find anything. She climbed through the hole in the store's window and was immediately hit with the smell of rotting flesh.

Beside her, there were two corpses piled unto one another. She flinched uncomfortably before she leaned down and stuck her knife through each one's skull. Simply for good measure. Afterwards, she turned and breathed in a breath of fresh air before covering her nose with her tank top. She reached in their pockets and pulled out the following: A slip of paper with an address, a knife similar to her own, two bullets,and a picture. She tossed the picture and paper aside, not really wanting to see what they contained, and looked harder. There had been a bullet, meaning there had to be a gun somewhere. She needed that gun.

When nothing showed up, she got off of her knees and began to search nearby. In the process she found a can of corn that had rolled up behind the check out counter. Still, there was no gun.

When Skylynn asked her to hold her Son, Tiffany was more than happy to do so, despite already carrying one in her belly. When she scooped up Josh from Skylynn so that she could patch up the other girl's wound, she smiled down at the little one, whom she helped into the world. He was such a handsome little boy. But it was very unfortunate that he had to grow up in such a cruel world and never get the chance to experience any of the joys that she got to. While this saddened her, Josh did give her hope for the world. As she cradled him with one arm, she held her belly with the other.

After Echo had her crying fit, she went on a rampage and slaughtered many zombies, she then climbed high up into a tree, till she could overlook most the land, and also the mill, where she saw the group. She watched intently hanging unto the tree with one hand and her bloody katana in the other.

Aidan pulled Jennifer's arm across to her other shoulder so she could better support her. She hoped she wasn't pulling the wound apart by doing so but it would be easier for the two of them to walk this way. "We'll do whatever we need to," she wondered if this counted as her volunteering to hold down an arm. While Aidan figured that Austin might be willing to hold both her legs down, having an old job which previously required a fair amount of strength, she had no idea if he still wanted to stick around. They also may need one more person to hold the other arm.

Aidan looked out into the woods. She thought she might have heard something but it may just have been Echo. After a moment, Aidan remembered, "Not that we really can afford stalling this any longer but Austin, did Echo hand you that antiseptic or does she still have it with her in the woods?"

(Sorry for kinda moving around your character Jennifer but I figured it would be easier to move than just grasping at Aidan's arm. Feel free to assume she hobbles wherever you want to go.)

Tammy was making my way over toward the building aproximately 2 blocks away. The streets were silent her legs sore. They always were. She noticed a trail of the corpsers blood.... 'blood?' She thought. They all seemed pretty intact apart from the casual rigor and muscle degrading limbs. Tammy had her crowbar attached to the backpacks clip. She undid it. She didn't see anybody leave the building. Then again she couldn't tell if they were human or corpsers. She lurked around the corner..... the herd of walking corpses were littering the street.... "what the fuck happened..." tammy was uncertain who caused this she didn't hear it at all.

Whoever did this was good at what they do.

She examined a corpser wearing all pink covered in blood. The head missing. A perfectly clean cut. Someone did this recently. She drew her pistol as well as her bar. Although she could not aim for shit she was better off pointing it at someone and acting like it. She saw corpsers all around her one had a belt with what looked like a police officers belt. She reached and searched the body. Finding a taser and a clip of bullets for what might fit her pistol but not certain. She passed under a row of trees off the side of the street...

Something cold and thick slatted on her neck soaking into her tank top riddled with holes. Her head flicked up immediately.

After a while of searching the store for the gun, Hailey gave up. She sat with her back against a lower shelf in one of the aisles and went through her backpack. Inside, she dug out a box of uncooked macaroni and began to snack on it, as if it were a bag of chips. She also pulled out her map, which she had found while raiding a truck stop a few days ago. She crossed off the town's she had already been to and searched to see which towns were closest. Her plan was to hit every town on this map. She only stayed one full day in each town before departing to the next. This town was about two days away from the last one, and she had gone those days without sleeping. There had been no shelter along the road she traveled on. After taking a quick look at her next target, she folded the map up neatly and stuck it back into her backpack. SHe got up and went back out the hole she came in.

Once back outside, she spotted a road a little further off and began following it. She hoped she would find a house that she could set up for the night. As she reached the road, she noticed it was littered with corpses as well as fresh blood. She shifted uncomfortably as she examined the scene. She made a quick decision to follothe trail and see where it lead. As she followed it, she checked the bodies for supplies. Most had already been cleaned out. She hadn't been paying mch attention to what was ahead until she noticed a humanly figure standing a few feet away. The person was obviously not a zombie.

Upon impulse, she called out to the figure "Hello?".

(@tammynorthland )

"Ah, damn," exclaimed Jennifer, wanting to say many more words, as Aidan helped her up.

She could feel her injury stretch as she hobbled over towards the mill. When Jennifer saw the baby, she couldn't help but smile. It had been a long time since she had seen a child, let alone a baby. It was almost a surreal sight. It was so innocent. But then it dawned on her that the child would never get to live a normal life, or rather, a life that was before the dead started to walk, driven solely by their lust for living meat.

As they were nearing the mill, Aidan stopped. Jennifer wasn't expecting it, and the stop was sudden. Pain quickly jolted her, then vanished. She listened as Aidan started to ask who had the antiseptic. Jennifer remembered that Echo held it out for her. But she doesn't remember if she took it or not.

"Check my bag once we get inside. I'm not sure if I took it or not," she said to Aidan, with pain being hidden behind her tone.

@Mercer @Shimakage Thunder @KathleneWilliams2121 @Aryn Harris

She attempted to be as ginger as possible but it seemed that in no way was she not going to hurt Jennifer at least a little. As they walked past the child, Aidan couldn't help but take a moment to stare. If she were to describe it in any way, it would be weird. Newborns always looked almost alien to Aidan, not that she didn't like them. It took a while for children to look normal.

She hadn't expected Jennifer to keep speaking. It had previously seemed as though the wound had been getting pretty bad. Her voice was fairly level at the moment. Hopefully she wasn't straining herself too much.

"I guess I'll check in a second then," Aidan turned her attention to the woman who had said she was a surgeon, "Do you guys have a table or flat place which she could lie down on? And is it in any way possible to move over here? Can't really tell how well that stitching she has right now is holding up and I don't want to keep going on like this for much longer."

@Shimakage Thunder

"The stitching isn't holding up too well. I can feel the skin tugging on it. It could have been done much better, but I'm not trained how to do them properly," Jennifer said, as she looked around.

"There, that table. Clear it off and it should be a good spot to perform this terrible painful procedure."

She tried to keep some lightheartedness in her tone. The world may be shit, the situation may be shit. But shit. Keeping some positivity helps people mentally, at least Jennifer thought so. So she always tried to make lightheartedness over it. And furthermore, Jennifer hasn't had time to cope with the fact she had to kill people. She never killed anyone living. Undead, sure. But living, no. Today was her first. She hadn't even thought of it. She hadn't had the time to. It's been chaos since it happened. She hasn't had time to think about it. It's literally been hours of the hardest survival she has had to endure. This time, however, she wasn't alone. She met with some people, those of which, she had been finding herself liking. She didn't want these people to die or leave. She didn't know why she felt such a bond with them yet. Then again, by the nature of Jennifer, she did get attached to people rather quickly. Today has been a hell of a day, and it isn't over. She could really use some rest after this procedure. But she knows it won't happen.

"Lie me down on that table once it is cleared off. And, doc, that's what I'll call you," looking at the woman who said she could fix her up, "do what you do. I'll owe you for this."

She didn't really know what she could do to owe it to her. But hell, she's helping, and that's great, and a return for the favor seems fair.

Miyuki watches everyone tend to the injured girl, well everyone but Tiff and her. She walks over to an area where they can treat her and clean it of for them. "I will just stand watch, make sure that the noise doesn't attract any more of those things," She tells the group as she looks over at Tiff, "Better take him out of here where he can rest in peace." she says as she knew noise was going to wake the baby. She then grabbed a few items, rocks string, sticks and feathers and climbed up to where she could see everything around them. She sat down and started to work on the rocks, scrapping them to make arrowheads.

Tiffany was honestly worried about Miyuki's well-being. Now she felt bad for the simple fact that she was pregnant, putting responsibility on someone else. "Alright, try not to stay up too long. You need rest. You look like you haven't slept for days." She said, worried. Looking down at the baby, she held him close before turning to Skylynn who was still treating the other girl. "I'm gonna go ahead and take a nap. Josh will be napping with me. So when you're ready, come find me in the Jeep." She said before walking off.

@Aryn Harris @Jennifer Shotain

Skylynn smiled slightly at Tiffany and nodded her head. "Alright. Thank you Tiffany." She murmured and walked carefully, trying not to show her pain as she walked, over to the table. "Alright guys. Just set her here. Can one of you shine the flashlight on the wound for me? I'm going to need both of my hands. And does someone have something that she can bite down on? It might help her to keep her from screaming." She asked and looked around at the new group of people.

Austin helped clear the table once everyone was inside and he could release the door, eyes wandering around the mills inside momentarily as Jennifer was helped over to the table. The man held onto her to help ease her onto the cleared flat surface, "Now come's the fun part." He joked through a very straight face, then listened to the surgeon. A part of him wanted to be the one to hold the light, so he could see what's happening and possibly help if need be. It wasn't that he didn't trust the stranger or her skills, it was a need to see what was happening, a need to be sure. But he was also likely the physically strongest here, so his time would likely be best spent in helping hold her down.

"Yeah, the fun part..," Jennifer started sarcastically.

Jennifer took her backpack off, and put it near the table. Then, with help, got herself on the table. It was a little wobbly, but it was the best they could do for now. She turn herself to lie down across the table.

"There is a rag in my backpack. Would you mind getting it for me, Austin, so I can bite onto it when this is being done, and check for the antiseptic there, while you're at it."

Getting herself comfortable, or as comfortable as you could get on a wobbly table in a mill, she laid her head back, and pulled up her shirt to reveal the wound to the doc. The stitching looked like shit. But what else can you go when you have a hundred undead wandering into the place you're at. Something is better than nothing, and that something worked for the time being. Long term, no, it would probably kill her slowly. But short term, good enough.

"A long time ago, my younger brother got his leg sliced open. I think he was four or five at the time," recalled Jennifer, as everyone got ready. "I was maybe nine or ten, whichever one it was, I can't remember. Anyway, we were out exploring the woods, or what the woods were in eastern Texas, and shooting our BB guns at tree, pretending they were bandits and we were the sheriff and deputy. And yes, I know. I was such a tomboy back then. But my brother and I got along like that and had fun that way. There weren't any kids we could see nearby, so we made due with what we could. Back to the story now. When were exploring, and shooting the "bad guys," we found this stream, that was carved into a gully, a bit of a ways down. It was a bit too steep for us to climb down, but there was a tree that leaned down. One of us had the smart idea of walking down it. I went first, since I was older. I made it down fine. My brother, on the other hand, didn't. After the first couple of steps down it, he lost his balance and slipped. In turn, he fell, and on the way down, his leg caught a really sharp branch. He ripped his calf open, and broke his arm. Poor thing."

Jennifer took the moment to remember him. It had been long since she had thought of him, or any family. It's just been about survival. She closed her eyes and sighed, and as of recollecting him and the good times they had, shed a tear. She misses those days.

"Rest in piece, deputy. This Sheriff still remembers you," she said softly.

She snapped back into it.

"Alright, story time is over. Now is for the grand act we have all been waiting so eagerly for," she looked at Austin. "Do we have the antiseptic? And everything else we need?"

Now she turned to Doc.

"Are you ready there, Doc? We can't keep the crowd waiting," she said sarcastically.

She took a deep breath.

"I'm ready...," she said, getting increasingly nervous, visibly nervous, shaking as she was ready to have it hurt like hell.

"I am nervous as hell," she started, breathing fast, "but not as nervous as that lead role for that Christmas play I had to do when I was twelve," said Jennifer, trying to make a joke to ease herself a bit.

"Let's do this. Ready when you all are," she said, visibly nervous, and mentally trying to calm herself down. But after feeling the pain she already had endured from it, she can't imagine any worse.

After everything seemed to have finally calmed down and people were heading inside Tori had kind of stayed back. She was glad jennifer's wound was finally getting seen to since it seemed to be getting worse, pain wise at least. She ran her fingers through her hair and wondered a little away from the mill but not so far that it wasn't in a short running distance. Allot had happened today and it was kind of overwhelming. So was being around so many people after being isolated for so long. Tori wasn't an overly social person to begin with, She could deal with people and hell she was even good with this on occasion otherwise her company and the game would never have left the ground never mind getting to the heights they had with it. Her lips turned to a frown at that and she shoved her hands in her pockets as she looked out over the landscape. Yeah that stupid game! it was the only reason she got held up in this damn country in the first place..she was worried about her family. She supposed they all were..but hell she didn't even know if whatever this was had spread as far as her home. She hung her head allowing herself a few seconds to wallow. She really hoped not. When the blonde had, had just about enough feeling sorry for herself. All 20 seconds of it she raised her head and took a deep breath. Thinking on all that and getting herself down wouldn't get her anywhere and it wasn't what had kept her alive so far.

Tori's hands clenched in her pockets and she straightened herself up turning around and walking back to the mill. She really hoped that guy made it back, Him ending up dead was the last thing any of them needed on their mind. That was probably a selfish thought..to not want to be burdened with that but oh well there you had it. She had a quick look around when she crossed the threshold and followed after the sounds of the others. "Anything i can do to help?" she stood a bit back from the group she wasn't exactly medical smart nd didn't want to get in the way of anyone who was.

Aidan helped to lay Jennifer down on the creaky table. The situation wasn't the best, with an unsteady table which probably wasn't the cleanest, but it would have to do. Being that Jennifer had asked Austin to get the antiseptic and rag, Aidan figured she'd just wait at the arm furthest from the wound. It gave her a chance to listen in to Jennifer's story. Part of her wanted to ask what happened to her brother, but those stories tended to be both predictable and depressing these days. They were something to let people talk about on their own time. Or perhaps Aidan just felt like avoiding the question. Perhaps she could offer a question on the rest of her family. Perhaps Jennifer had a mother, father or grandparent she had gotten close to. She couldn't think of how to ask.

To be honest some days it felt like the world they lived in would simply fade away, like someone would find a cure to this epidemic and everything would go back to what they had once called normal. It hasn't been too long but Aidan was starting to understand what it meant to be stuck in a world like this. For that reason, she didn't like thinking back to the past though she suspected it helped others to talk about it. Her past wasn't great but it wasn't the worst by far. Aidan's mind started wandering onto her family but she stopped herself. It was time to focus on getting whatever task needed to be done.

Jennifer seemed to be urging Austin on to get this over with. Aidan should say something, something like 'you'll be okay' but after getting herself thinking such morose thoughts she wasn't sure it would sound believable. Instead she stood awkwardly waiting for a command from either Austin or the doctor.

@Shimakage Thunder @KathleneWilliams2121

Austin grabbed the bag and opened it up as Jennifer told her story, it was a painful reminder that everyone in the room had family at some point. And that they we're all likely dead, just like his we're. "Gott'em." He said, laying the bag back on the ground and putting the antiseptic on the table for the surgeon while he twisted and rolled the rag into a nice thick knot that the woman could bite down on. "Alright Sheriff, put this in your mouth when your ready." He told her, handing over the rag just as Tori walked in. "That deputy of yours would want you to fight the good fight. So you push through this and keep his memory going that much longer."

Compassion.
Something every decent human being has, something that he hadn't been given an option to have for quite a while. Something he once used daily on the job whether the person was young or old, boy or girl, good or bad. Austin saw people at their lowest moments, having lost all of their worldly possessions. Or on the harder days their families as well. There'd been a time when he prided himself in comforting these people and showing compassion, those same people who met and spoke with them on what was likely the worst day of their lives. If his words or actions made that day just a little more bearable for them it was worth it.

And it was nice to use it once again, even if only for a moment.

The man turned to look at Tori and Aidan, "Between the two of you one of you needs to hold the light for her, the other needs to hold down her arm. So whoever has the steadier hands and isn't squeamish would be the best bet." Though there was still a free arm in the end, of course Echo had decided to run off when they could have used her. Austin wasn't sure if she was coming back, and honestly he wasn't sure if he cared, he'd be leaving himself at some point so she'd just beat him to it.

@Shimakage Thunder @Jennifer Shotain @Mica

Skylynn smiled as Jennifer started talking about her childhood. "Being nervous is normal. Trust me. You have no idea how many patients I had to console before they agreed to a surgery that they absolutely had to have. Or an operation on someone's kid. I had so many nervous families come through. And they all turned out fine." Skylynn said, turning to everybody else that was still in the room.

"Yes. I agree with Austin. Whichever one of you has the steadiest hands I need right beside me holding the flashlight." She stated, shifting, albeit painfully, to one foot as she looked for a chair. Once she found one she quickly brought it over to the table and sat down, hoping to relieve the pain that still lingered from her giving birth.
