Byakko frowned.

"This oriental thingy sounds booooring. I'm going back! I'll come back later to play with you, Virtus!" He mewled, disappearing in a puff of smoke.

Virtus smiled as Byakko took off, and yawned. He really didn't want to go to this orientation. He wasn't an idiot, as most teachers seemed to assume most students were. Virtus nodded to himself, thinking Trace probably felt the same way.

"I know where it's being held." He said to Cam, beginning to walk. He glanced back at Bast. And whistled, patting his shoulder. "Wanna ride up top, Bast?" He asked the 'familiar', wondering what it was. If it came up on his shoulder, he'd try and communicate with it. As a Theurgic mage, he had to know how to talk to demons, spirits and beasts. Not all of them spoke English.

Cam smiled and walked next to Virtus, Bast bounded after them. "What year are you," Cammie asked curiously, he seemed to be already fairly oriented with the castle already. Bast leaped up gracefully, and layer across his shoulders. Bast was not a lightweight cat, walking next to Cam, her head would come up past her knee, granted Cam wad still a kid, Bast was still quite tall and long.

Virtus pet Bast gently, bearing his weight easily. Being half-demon had a few physical perks.

"Well, I'm 13. Almost 14. But I think I'm a first-year, because it's my first year here." Virtus explained, not really knowing. "What about you?" He asked.

After asking Cam his question, Virtus reached out to Bast with his mind, using simple emotions to communicate at this stage. He was unsure what kind of response he'd get.

He let out curiosity and intellect to Bast, hoping she'd understand his intentions to communicate.

At the girl’s response, Minka just stared in a confused expression, not understanding how someone could be born from a water stone. As her explanation continued the only thing that stood out in Minka’s mind was the blessing from the ocean. She took a different approach so the girl could understand her better,

“Well then…my mum got a blessing in her for me, but humans take 9 months to grow…” she trailed off.

“Then…I don’t know what happens! I never made it past that part” she shrugged,

Although she didn’t quite understand the girl, or did she understand her, Minka thought they would get along well together. Then she remembered what the walls had said and jumped up, ushering the other girl towards her,

“Don’t we have to listen to the boxes?” she asked, looking around worriedly.

Bast blinked and starred at the boy, she knew he was deffinately different, he was placing things in her mind rather than speak them. Of course Bast could speak, but not very well, she preferred to stay quiet, believing Cameron prefered it that way too, no matter what she said. Bast thought about the boy's familiars and the pictures he was putting in her head; so she thought back to him, asking him why that was... Cam chattered on, "Its my first year here too. You seem to be pretty good at that magic stuff, I hope I can get as good as you--but I guess thats the reason I'm here, huh? I'm pretty new at all of this. Oh, and I'm only twelve, but my birthday's in a few months though!" Cam hopped along, bubbling with excitement.

Virtus smiled, now knowing for sure Bast was intelligent.

"Oh, I'm not that good. I'm not even mediocre at anything that doesn't relate to Theurgy. I guess, I know what I need, right?" He chattered back, lying a little, while sending Bast a complete thought without blinking an eye.

"You're interesting. You could be considered a familiar, yet you reside in the mortal realm and don't have the Theurgic bond with your master. Would you explain to me why you have the relation to this, rather charming, but otherwise rather weak young girl?" He spoke in Bast's mind.

Bast's tail began flicking back and forth, she frowned mentally into the boy's head, she didn't like the way he spoke of her master. She thought about Cameron and they day she had appeared behind Cameron, her soul bonded to another's; she thought about when Cameron had named her, choosing her exact name, unaware of what she had actually done; she thought about Cameron taking care of her, never getting mad even when she indulged in the clawing of the sofa; and the way Cameron knew what she was saying when she refused to speak. Bast decided she didn't have to tell the boy a thing--he obviously didn't understand. She looked away, pretending to get distracted and purposfully sent a thought, remembering the vole she had eaten the other day, then a thought about playing with a ball of yarn--since she supposed that's what most people thought felines do. Bast gave a small, "mrow," and pounched lightly to the floor. Cam shrugged, "Yeah, me too, I know only a few basic things, I never really got to practice at home," she mused causually.

Virtus' smile faded as Bast decided to ignore him now. He shrugged mentally, and now focused fully on Cam.

"Why didn't you have the chance to practice much?" He asked, feigning interest. He actually didn't care a whole lot, but he figured he could get to know the girl. It seemed like the polite thing to do, too.

Cam crossed her arms, "My parents don't like magic is all," she said, less than enthusiastic. Her fingers rubbed the palms of her hands, against the mark in her skin. Bast realized Cam wasn't feeling good and hopped up on her shoulders and rubbed her head against Cammie's cheek, her tail curled affectionately against her thoat. Cam reached up and scratched her, she perked back up, "But I'm here now, so I'm gonna learn everything I can cram into my head and try to get the highest marks I can!"

Virtus sighed. Now he felt sympathetic....

"If it's any consolation, I haven't seen my parents in ten years... And my mother was a demon. Like, a literal demon. I'm a half-breed. Everyone has some trouble with their parents, but all you have to do is become such a fantastic Mage they have no choice but to be proud of you." He spoke with some conviction, rubbing the back of his head sheepishly.

Cam raised her eyebrows, "Half demon, huh? Sounds neat! Do you have any other powers or something? How does that work?" she said, willingly changing the subject matter, "Soon as I know where the library is, I'm gonna read up on all of this stuff," Bast rubbed her head again, and Cam whispered to her, "Yeah, I know, okay?" and stroked her fur. Bast made a deep rumbling sound in her chest which was her way of a purr.

Nellie nodded her head, listening to the girl closely. So humans held the ocean inside them, she could understand that. Chuckling a little, not sure if it was appropriate at the girl's second statement she looked up at the ceiling. "I suppose...the box people were right with the train so...." Sliding off the window sill, she moved towards the girl and rubbed the back of her neck nervously.

15 MINUTES TO SCHOOLWIDE ASSEMBLY/ORIENTATION, GET TO THE MAIN HALL NOW.

James and the others were not in the hallway approaching the main hall

"oh man i wonder what it'll be like, do you think it'll be like hogwarts in harry potter?"

Minka hadn’t known that there were also box people on the train, so she looked somewhat confused when the girl said they were right then. The time was dwindling down though, so she put off the question for now and trailed out of the room. Expecting the other girl to follow, she made her way back out of the female dorms and towards the building the woman had pointed to.

As they made it inside, she looked around curiously as she expected a group of people to already be gathered there. The hallway only had a few stragglers in it and she looked around curiously for this ‘orientation’ they were having.

“Didn’t she say it was here?” she asked, without looking back

An older student seemed to notice they were lost,

“First years?” she asked and Minka looked around before figuring out she was talking to her, and just blinked.

“I’ll take that as a yes…follow me” she offered,

Minka did, albeit slowly, she followed the older student down the hall and through double doors, where she saw the bulk of the studentbody had already gathered. Whatever this ‘orientation’ thing was, apparently everyone had to show up to it; as the girl once again surveyed the room she saw the woman with the red hair standing near the stage.

"I dunno, maybe... What do you think Talhar?" Ili asked as the three made their way toward the real orientation. It sounded exciting; some kind of greeting with a big name like orientation?

"It'll be awesome to get to meet so many new people!"

Padding along after the girl, leaving Gullivan and Ross in her room, knowing they'd be fine until she got back, she looked around curiously. As someone spoke to them, she followed her roommates cue and stayed quiet, thinking that to be how you responded to that. As they followed another person, Nellie fiddled with a button on her coat, suddenly surprised at the amount of children in one room. Even in her town, the only time a bunch of kids gathered was for a summer festival, and it certainly wasn't summer.

Looking around, she bit her lip, eyes skipping over faces till she saw the woman who had spoken to them all before. Moving a bit closer to Minka, she suddenly wished she had kept her pets with her, at least they'd be able to guide her with what to do.

Lawrence causally scanned the faces of the people weaving in between the crowded room. Lawrence slowly moved his hand to his sword which was concealed neatly beneath his cloak. Closing his eyes he felt the sheer enthusiasm of the crowd.

"Amazing!" He exclaimed abruptly. Realizing he still had his hand on the supposedly concealed blade he quickly moved his hand off. The young wizard then continued scanning the crowd for something to hold his interest for more than a second.

Virtus sighed. He knew he'd get questions from this incredibly curious girl.

"I'd rather not talk about it right this second. A lot of races don't like demons, and especially not hybrids. But yes, by blood does afford me some abilities.... I still count it as a blessing I look completely human, though." He explained, the only physical abnormality that could possibly give him away in this state being his oddly tinted eyes. They seemed to have a touch of yellow nearest to the pupil.

They arrived just outside of the main hall. Virtus pouted slightly. He REAAALLLYYY didn't want to be here at this orientation.

Cammie's smile faltered a bit, it seemed like this predjudice when farther than her home town. She quickened her pace at the sound of the disembodied voice. Cam followed the masses of the other students to the auditorium where this orientation was to take place. When there, they were a tad bit late, standing at the back of the body of students. Cam eagerly wanted to get closer and wedge her way to the front, knowing many others didn't care what this speaker would be saying. Bast stayed close on her heals, some of the other pupils jumped and backed away slightly surprised when they noticed her, Cam and Bast paid them no attention. Cam held out her arms, and Bast simotaneously jumped into them. She cuddled Bast, both finding comfort in each other from the stressful environment.

(Carl just told me hes dropping the RP so lets just go pretending his character never existed)

ALRIGHT ORIENTATION BEGINNING

in the mian hall, the students all began to move int their places, this hall wasn't at all like the one in hogwarts, for one instead of a solid floor, they seemed to be actually hovering over a huge dark pit, down below there was still one light through, a brilliant blue light, what was making it dark was obviously a magical shield to prevent the light from blinding everyone, that must have been that "magic core" the teacher earlier had told them about.

the tables were long and thick, one in a huge U shape and 3 smaller long tables in the middle all lined with stairs on each side.

at the back of the room there were some steps and at the top was the Teacher's table, in the middle was the headmaster, a human man, he looked like a buff jesus with his hair only grey at the tips, yet his face looked old enough to have his hair fully grey or bald.

to the right of him was the Groundskeeper/bioloy teacher, an elvish woman who w=didn't even clean the dirt and mud off her face and clothes even for the orientation, nect to her was Miss Kathra, who gave them a smaller orientation when they arrived at the school, she was talking to a man beside her wearing long black robes with long, purple hair and a thick stubble, clearly battle-hardened, there was clearly something happening between them by the way she was fussing over his stubble and the way she gave him a kissbefore going back fully to her seat.

on the headmaster's left sat a giant of a man, he had a thick mustache and his long hair was in a ponytail, his legs were sticking out under the table and went down many of the stairs before reaching his feet.

then there was a Jaziida in fancy robes, taking a sip of fine wine from his goblet and talking to the giant whiole on the end was a strange man with a butterfly knife he was playing with hile giggling to himself, and finally there was an empty seat for the last co-ordinator of the school.

the other staff like the "trenchcoat guards" found everywhere, officially called "Ordinators" as well as all the smaller-role teachers, groundskeepers, janitors and other staff were in the chairs on the outside of the big U shaped table.

soon the headmaster spoke after everyone was seated, his voice thundering throughout the halls.

"Welcome.. boys and girls, ladies and gentlemen to the Highland school of magic... as you well know, our world was shattered in recent decades, followed by constant smaller wars, from Orc and Ogre "extermination campaigns" in russia to human Jihads and Crusades worldwide to Jaziida raiding parties in middle africa and the still-going conflicts between the Incubi and Succubi against the humans in the Americas... but this is not a place of war, this is not a place of hate, thisis not a place of fear... this is a place of safety, of unity, of confidence and most importantly... a place of change... a beacon of light and unity in this dark, shattered world!"

the old man stoped to take a breath, he looked over all the different youth of so many different backgrounds.

"students and staff... we all learn from each-other.. i have learned from my students, as much as i learned from my teachers, and you... all of you... will grow to be whatever your dreams are! powerful mages, diplomats, healers, scientists, at this place of education... you will be taught to be any and all..."

he gestured then tot he Ordinators, they had taken their helmets off and were waiting for their food, they all gave a bit of a wave to the new kids.

"these are the Ordinators... there are many who would like to see our school fall, that is why they are here, but they are not boodeymen students, they are also school staff, if you encounter bullying, are lost, forgot where a classroom is or lost something, do not hesitate to ask one for help, they are here to serve and protect, don't be intimidated by the masks, they're all nice guys... oh yes, and girls"

the headmaster was getting nearvous, this was dragging on, even though his voice was booming with confidence, he was not good with crowds.

"uhh.. y-yes and soon students, your foods and drinks will appear, vegetarians and herbivores will only recieve salad, carnavores will only recieve meat et cetera... and with your food you will recieve your diaries, they have all been enchanted to NEVER be lost and they update themselves and will remind you if you're missing any appointments... very intelligent enchantments on these books.... well then, without further ado, let the feast begin!"

the headmaster clapped his hands and as he opened them, the tables all began to ripple like jelly, and the foods we all desired were bought up from the table and beside our plates/bowls were our new diaries.

in front of James came up a bowl of Rice, Chicken and Ham in thick Mushroom sauce and a glass of Cola.

"woah! this is nice!"

The orientation was impressive, especially in a grand place like the great hall. When the headmaster clapped his hands and the food appeared, Ili looked down to see a heaping mound of anything he could have hoped for, steak here, broccoli there: grapefruit, pork chops, and the list went on.

"This is awesome!" Ili shouted, falling face first into the table, pulling the food into his body as he sat back up as a humanoid to let it digest.

"Mmmm..."

Cam was walking around looking for a spot to sit at when she saw the slime, her eyes went wide, "Woooaahh...!" she exclaimed in awe, she crept up closer and poked him expirementally. "Excuse me, you're a slime, right?" She grinned in excitement.

"Nope, I'm a caterpillar," Ili replied with a chuckle, his 'face' reforming out the back of his head, a huge grin on it.

"Take a seat," he replied, forming an arm again to motion toward the empty space beside him.

"I'm Ili, nice to meetcha."

Cam took a seat, laughing, "You sure are funny catapillar then, all the catapillars I know are about this big," she joked, pinching her finger together, "I'm Cam or Cammie," Bast squeezed herself onto Cam's lap and mewed, "Oh, and this is my familiar, Bast,"

(OOC: Let's just say that Trace was distracted by Gizmo long enough to keep him fromdoing any exploration)

Trace sat at the table, mildly annoyed that the brass robot,Gizmo kept him from doing any exploring. However, the headmaster's speech helped alleviate that. Unity. Progress. Learning. All of these Trace sought. A unified mind and past, progress to the future of himself, and to learn how to control, improve, and expand upon himself and his powers. When the headmaster clapped his hands, food and drink had materialized before everyone, all apparently tailored for the consumer.

However, while everyone else recieved roasted suckling pig or a glorious, nearly hedonistic salad,Trace was greeted with a simple glass of un-iced water, and several tubes of synth-food paste. Save for one item; a bowl of french onion soup. He quickly dug into his soup, and, almost litteraly, inhaled it. Crouton and all. He then began to suck back the several tubes of synth-food,taking in his surroundings, marvelling at the asthetic.
