John
1.jpg

SixSense SixSense saxon saxon

After being thrown into a wall in the darkness, John learnt something. He was severely underprepared for this entire mission.

Firstly, he didn’t have a reliable way to navigate or see in the darkness, so he was basically a sitting duck without Kota around or once his matchstick gets snuffed out. Even if he threw out a punch right now, it was likely for him to miss those disgusting bugs.

Secondly, he should have constantly kept his matchstick lit up (in the first action of every post), because apparently it doesn’t last long enough. Even then, the matchstick was always susceptible to being snuffed out by external forces, so a better and more reliable light source would be nice to have.

Thirdly, he was not versatile enough. He couldn’t hide or run from the threat before him, and so he got hit hard as a result. (Although he did wonder if he could just overpower the enemies if he was strong enough, and having the necessary means to see in the dark).

He could only hope that if someone were to venture into these dreadful caves in a future exploration, they would have ample preparation for it. But alas, it wasn’t as if anyone could read his thoughts and learn from his horrible mistakes.

With that said, John was hit with the realization that perhaps he would not make it out alive. It was a terrible situation, and yet, he couldn’t help but to crack a manic smile at his own plight. Perhaps he had already gone mad with fear.

"I knew I’d leave an impression, just didn’t think it’d be on the wall.” John snickered. He may not be able to take any of them down in this darkness, but he could try to buy as much time as possible by being a total turtle. “Bring it on, you filthy insects!” He yelled out, raising his guard once more.

Ryken Adventurer D - character knows all the basics, has been on some adventures, and shows themselves to be competent. They are only missing experience and a specialty that sets them apart in the guild. They are considered a full fledged member and can be called upon for most standard missions even if just as a supporting role.
Sandman - character's body is made of sand. Is likely to leave sand behind wherever they go. Has an easier time staying together in moist environments and less windy days. Even when solid, can give off the impression they may blow away at any moment.
Maze Runner - character has ran for their life in a confusing and trying place and situation. Character is more likely to perform better in confusing settings in the future where passive senses are not sufficient for getting through something under pressure. Increases ability to think on ones feet and improvise. More prone to finding themselves in similar difficult situations.
Comrade - character has proved themselves to be a good ally and approachable. Character will have easier time convincing others to team up with their cause or to allow him to join theirs. More likely to join a cause that isn't worth joining too, however.

Jareth could feel retreating movements from the bugs through the vibrations. He stood as Okami came beside him.

"The bugs are moving away for some reason. Now's our chance to advance further. We should still be careful." Jareth said, gesturing for Okami to take the lead. With her in front, Jareth would keep up as best he can.

Upon reaching the intersection that had just been vacated by the insects, a secondary sound aside from Jareth's and Okami's own footsteps could be heard. Jareth looked around, but the torchlight did not reveal anyone or anything.

"Did you hear something just now?" Jareth asked his partner. Regardless of whether she confirmed or denied it, Jareth's suspicion had been aroused. Without warning, he flicked his catalyst to the space in front of him and recited. "Sepulchre longed to consume them but wished to savor the moment. Thus he held them in his mouth."
[A zone of swirling sand above sinking mud is conjured in the area where the footsteps were heard. Upon a hostile stepping in the zone, they will be blinded by the sand as they partially sink, forcing them to use extra movement to escape the zone.]
The spell would be aimed in such a way to put the radius of the zone away from Jareth and Okami. Jareth would wait to see if he caught any flies in his trap.

"Fleet...Particle Armor." [Natural Armor (Heavy) D] Jareth said. A ripple went out from his chest as his entire form, clothes and all, began to conform to the contour of his body. Short black spikes jutted out at random intervals in the wave then receded as his form was encased in the pitch-colored armor. The darkness enshrouded his face last while simultaneously tainting his hair, leaving only two glowing white spots for his eyes.

The duo continued their descent into the hive with... seemingly no resistance.

The other teams were, apparently, doing their jobs well. Or, at least, they were causing so much of a ruckus that most of the insects in the hive had mobilized. According to Jareth, the insects were actively moving away from their position. Yet, despite that, Okami couldn't help but hear footsteps slowly approaching as they advanced through the tunnel.

"Yeah. I did."

The Geomancer unleashed a wicked spell from below to bind and blind whoever it was that had been creeping through the hallway unseen. Perhaps it was an ally they’d stumbled upon. Perhaps it was the first insect they would encounter that evening, looking to strike them both down before they could realize that they weren’t alone. The light from the torch revealed nothing to them.

Jareth’s caution would inform her movements.

The Wolf would move neither forward towards the hazardous area of Jareth’s spell nor backwards towards him, but to the side until she was interposed between Jareth and the direction from which she’d heard the encroaching footsteps. Let him use her as cover. Better to take the hit herself if something was lying in wait to ambush them, especially with the sorcerer cradling that bomb of his.

Then, for the first time since she’d entered the nest, Okami would draw her sword.

Jareth’s suspicion would inform her movements. In a blur of motion, she would perform [Red River Flow] and send a blade of compressed air hurtling towards the unseen intruder to cleave into their flesh. There was no way to tell how accurate her strike would be or even if the sorcerer’s suspicions were well-founded, but there was certainly an easy way to find out.

Either Jareth’s spell would trap them, a spray of blood would fill the air from her own strike, or absolutely nothing would come from the two of them reacting to the echoes of distant footsteps.

With her torch held high in her left hand, The Wolf would then begin to [Appraise] the area before her for information on potential threats.

Only time would tell.

Actions (3/3)
1). Movement: Position herself between Jareth and the source of the footsteps so as to provide him with cover with her body.
2). Perform [Red River Flow] to launch a strike in the direction of the footsteps, and towards one of the hidden foes. [+1Team-up Bonus with Jareth's Spell]
3). Use [Appraisal F] to scan the area for information on any hidden threats or new arrivals.
Red River Flow- Specialized Fighting Style [Wolf's Blood Red Fang] E, Range E, Deflect (1) E- The Wolf draws and sheathes her sword with such speed so as to leave her blade unseen by untrained eyes as she attacks. The thunderous shockwave released from performing this kata acts as an extension to the strike, allowing Okami to cleave a man in two from distances far beyond the edge of her blade. The name of the form comes from the ominous spray of blood that often follows a successful strike.- Grade E- 1 Action- 30ft range- 1 post cooldown.

After walking through the damp tunnel for who know how long, they finally see something new in the tunnel: lit torch. There's two people there and it's obvious from their get up that they're part of the adventurer groups. Normally she would probably choose to hide herself, or even engage them on some small talk, but the cat suddenly felts movement beneath her feet as the ground shift. For a tiny creature like her whose body was always close to the ground, it's much easier for them to sense the ground, the woman also launched a wave strike towards them.

The hell you people! Eeriel cursed at them in her mind as she threw herself forward to dodge the attacks. Fine, if death is what you want. Then it's what you will get.

Rushing towards the torch holder, the cat leapt forward onto her and use her Pocket Dimension in an attempt to store the torch she was holding. Thus robbing them of the light source.

Actions (Energized E):
1) Use Speed B, Acrobatic F and Light Armor F to dodge attacks
2) Night Slink to rush towards Okami - Fast F, Speedburst F, Stealth F, Undetected (vision) F, Energized F + Acrobatic F - Move quickly and quietly across the terrain. Grade F, 0 turn cooldown
3) Pocket Dimension F to store Okami's torch

After entering this forsaken cave, the sticky goop along the walls gave the first confirmation. Kota would maneuver the difficult terrain nimbly though as he looked up ahead, temporarily pushing the thought of John out of his mind. If we were to survive this ordeal, surely he would have to pay his respects to the man. Though such respite to think would be short-lived as he noticed a few bugs barring the path ahead.

It can't be easy, can it?

Kota would slow his movement slightly as he anticipated impending combat, clutching the bomb tightly within reach. It was now time to see who will come out on top, beast or bug.

Kota would strike hard and fast making use of his dark vision. He chose not to underestimate the enemies in front of him utilizing [Soulbreaker D] with his free hand as he entered within the creatures range, attempting to get the jump on it with speed. He would target the second bug with [Spirit Wave F] front short range. Kota would then turn to the last remaining insect and clash with it using a side kick.

Actions
1. Use [Soul Breaker D] on the first insect
2. Use [Spirit Wave F] on the second insect
3. Basic attack third insect

OOC: I took some liberties with the opening narration. Rp will run on a 3 day schedule, so post at least once in the 72 hours. Rounds may go faster if we post faster. Keep in mind advanced rules. Failure to post will be treated the same as a failure to deal with the situation at hand. Ask any questions that need asking, but I can only answer those appropriate to answer during worlds. Conditions for this rp will involve whether or not the egg chamber is destroyed and how many participants return alive per faction. Factions with fewer members will receive a bonus throughout the rp to ensure the other factions do not easily outdo them. Assume ability cooldowns always matter for the duration of this rp. Sandman and Minashigo, the sand pit that was now created on the floor quickly turned into a mud like substance, however the impression of two holes in the ground certainly gave away that something was there and there was the sound of pain. As a drow elf appeared as he attempted to free himself. The strike from Minashigo add to the effect as blood was dripping from the drow now. There was a sudden flash of light that came from the drow as he was now catching his breath from getting out of the trap. Then the lights went completely out in the tunnel.

For John, his guard was slipped around due to the low light conditions as the creature struck again, breaking through the armor that he had as he felt the armor cunch and get mangled by whatever was attacking him. But so far at least John was still able to do something or attempt to light something up. And the creature was cooling up for something else in the darkness. [Heavy armor broken, 5/6 HP, ?x ??x grade attacks]

For Kota, his first strike pierced the bug's carapace and it dropped to the ground as it struggled for a few seconds before going limp. He had successfully killed one of the bugs so far. As he moved on to the next two, his second target let out a shriek of pain as he felt a crunch coming from the carapace; however, he hadn't broken through it. But the bug was in pain as it reel back a bit. The third bug he stuck let out a shriek and looked mildly annoyed from the strike. [2x E grade attacks]

Eeriel on the other hand didn't waste time as the cat deftly moved across the sand leaving very minimal traces as Minasho's torch suddenly disappeared leaving the group in darkness. So far, the cat's strategy was working, but how would the other group respond now their force was missing?

Feeling his tough bones begin to crack under the relentless assault, John clenched his teeth, swallowing the pain that threatened to spill from his throat. Damn it! He couldn’t even block their attacks—the pitch-black darkness had left him vulnerable, and now his once sturdy body was failing him. Each blow chipped away at his defenses, and he knew it was only a matter of time before he’d be done for.

But he wasn’t down yet. He still had a chance to at least take the insect down with him.

With shaky hands, he fumbled for his matchbox, striking a match and holding it out. The small flame flickered to life, casting a dim, fragile light in the suffocating gloom. At least now he could see his insect assailant clearly.

John still had one last card to play. It was risky—dangerous, even—but at this point, there was no turning back. It was all or nothing, do or die. His body was already breaking down, so what did he have to lose?

He took a deep, steadying breath, flexing his body with [Breathe Air]. Every muscle in his body tightened, veins bulging under his skin as he pushed his limits. His strength surged, a momentary burst of power that could either save him or destroy him. With a roar, he swung at the creature with everything he had.

“IT'S NOT OVER YET, YOU BASTARD!”

A grin would form on Kota’s face as he felt his fist crunched the first bug. Its innards would splatter around with a satisfying sound as it went limp, its chitin was hard but wasn’t impossible to break through. The shriek from the second target gave indication that he had harmed it however it wasn’t enough to put it down. Kota would take a mental note as he extended his leg high into the air over his head, as he did a blue glint would shine from his boot as he brought it down with incredible might upon the insect's head performing a textbook axe kick.

He would turn to the annoyed insect, “don’t worry you won’t have to wait long.” His words were playful however his expression was dead serious, his bestial eyes ever so prominent within the caverns darkness. The kitsune would use the force produced from his initial attack to propel himself into a flip. He would Perform a double kick on the second insect, starting with his reg leg he would attempt to sweep the bug into the air before following up with a second kick.

A loud cackle echoed throughout the tunnels as Eeriel finally broke dark silence that permeates the cave. Making people dance on her paws was the thing that gave her happiness. Now that she had robbed the humans out of their light source, she would enjoying hearing them tumbling into the bugs and got shredded alive. Though she still had the suspicion on the earth mage guy, he hit the drow accurately even though they're invisible so he probably had other means of sensing his surrounding.

"WELCOME TO HELL, HUMANS. YOUR CORPSE WILL SOON LITTER THE FLOOR JUST LIKE THE ADVENTURERS BEFORE YOU." For someone who had been keeping her stealth all this time, she sure talked really loudly, letting her voice reverberates through the caves. As if she's trying to draw the attention of someone... or something to where they're right now. "I'M FEELING GENEROUS THOUGH SO HOW ABOUT A BARGAIN? DROP ALL YOUR WEAPONS, AND THE BOMB. THEN I WILL LET YOU LIVE... OR ELSE, I'M SURE THOSE COCKROACHES WOULD LOVE SOME EXTRA SNACKS. GYAHAHAHAHAHA."

Satisfied with her monologue, Eeriel's ears twitched as she use her hearing to sense her surrounding before she quietly backed away from Jareth and Okami, just enough to be out of reach from conventional spell range. The drow? She didn't give a damn, he's stupid enough to get caught in the trap.

Let's see if the other saboteurs or the bugs get here first.

Jareth heard the confirmation of Okami's hit in the pained cries of her target. When the torch was extinguished, however, he was less sure of their advantage. Perhaps they were even now: one of theirs was injured, but Jareth and Okami were now blind. Tedious. So immensely tedious. Why were they interfering? Who were they? Why were they in the hive in the first place? They were morsels for the bugs as much as anyone else. Hadn't they lost loved ones to these menaces too?

I don't have time for this.

Jareth walked forward, curling the bomb a little tighter in the crook of his left arm. His right arm held the catalyst outstretched as he advanced into the darkness towards where he heard Okami strike her target. Using the sounds of the elf's panting, he would launch attacks at him.

"Sepulchre taunted his foes after they had wounded his eyes, 'You've taken two of my eyes...but what about the rest?"
[Sand floats into the air immediately surrounding Jareth. He will be aware of and capable of using magic on any physical creature that comes within 5 ft of him.]

A spray of blood from an unfamiliar figure was the last thing she saw before the lights went out in the tunnel.

The weight of the torch vanished from her hand without any sense of motion or friction. For a moment, Okami assumed that it was one of the bug's tricks. But the voice echoing through the caves made it clear that this was the work of some third party. She brought a hand to her blade, ready to strike in the direction of the figure's last known whereabouts, but Jareth took off in the very same direction to finish the elf off; his position growing ever-less distinguishable from that of the enemy with each passing moment. Her hand slowly drifted away from her weapon.

"Goddamnit."

Not worth the risk of striking him from behind.

"Not gonna be of much use here," she explained, "Not until I can find a way to tell you apart from anything else we run into down here."

That was what really began to frustrate her. A clash between the duty she'd assigned herself and her current ability. The threat of being eaten alive by insects meant nothing if she could do her job. And if the sorcerer walked out of that hive alone and victorious, then so, too, was she.

But this cursed blindness. Not being able to draw her blade with confidence? Not knowing with certainty if her strike would serve to protect the sorcerer or wound him in the darkness? That was a bit harder to swallow.

So much for keeping the sorcerer safe, huh?

She was just going to have to trust Jareth with the elf. Better one blade coming in his direction than two. Instead she turned her attention elsewhere. Further into the tunnels. Let come what may. She would be the first to greet it. At least, then, she could strike without an ounce of doubt in her heart.

TLDR: A force of PC's and NPCS have entered the bug hive to place an explosive device in an egg chamber of the bugs. However one of the groups sees something light and floating in the distance.
1725167793056.png

For John, as soon as the match was lit the creature struck, the mandables quickly severing him from into two pieces from the waist down. the match droped to the ground as he landed in the goop that was on the floor which turned out to be flamable. While unintentional, he also managed to kill the bug that was attacking him in the process. However the match set off a large explosion in which it traveled in both directions heading back to the large sprial chamber they had come down from and to the direction that kota was in. [John has died and taken a bug with him]

For Kota, his strike on the injured bug sent it reeling back in pain and after a moment the bug went limp, then came the explosion that quickly engulfed the area, the blast intensifying due to the close space of the tunnel forcing the gases, vapor, and flames to expand in the small place giving kota little time to react as he was then singed to a crisp from the explosion along with the bugs setting off another chain reaction in which the bomb exploded adding to the explosion finishing off kota. [Kota has died.]

Sandman and Minashigo, The sounds of panting quickly gave away the elfs position as Jertith felt the earth quickly rip the elf apart, as the screaming sound from the elf and the strange unknown voice echoed throughout the tunnel. The sound of chittering was coming now from the path that Sandman and Minashigo had come from. Signaling that the bugs had been alerted to their presence here. They were going to have to act quickly, though thanks to the light Jerith and Minashigo could see a glow further down about 20 ft and the glow seemed to take the shape of round objects thought he exact nature of these objects were unknown but they might be important.

Eeriel thanks to the darkness and being able to move back steathily was able to avoid the protective layer Sandman was putting out for the moment though the cat could also see the light further down which could be the objective. The cat was goign to have to act quickly as well since the bugs were fast approaching.

However the explosion rocked the entire tunnel sending debrist falling from teh cieling as the area was rumbling and the smell of smoke filled the air. The sound of an explosion echoed to the tunnel causing the ears of those inside to bleed from the ear drums and the ringing that now took away their sense of hearing.

Eeriel scowled as the humans didn't shake in fear and bow down to her. Well, that's to be expected but it still frustrated her. She was thinking of dozens other method to psychologcally torture them before a huge explosion shakes the entire cave. She instinctively put both of her front paws on her head but thankfully nothing much happened to her except the painful ringing in her ears.

With the light revealing the way down, it also revealed to her another important thing, the bomb. She could now see the bomb tucked in the man's arms. If they're as deaf as her then this would be a good time to strike as they wouldn't be able to hear her chant, plus she's still hidden. Though her stunt before put her in a rather awkward position as her spell wouldn't be able to reach them... normally.

Dropping her invisibility spell to help her focus, the cat started casting her spell. She shifted some of the spell's aspects to match what she needs right now. This would be a rather risky move, but this would also be her best bet. Pointing her paw towards her opponent, Eeriel focused her aim towards the bomb in Jareth's hands and launched a bolt of magic towards it.

Action:
1) Stealth F to keep hiding
2) Shoot the bomb with Mana Strike (flux) - Magic E -> F, Magic Range F -> E, Energized E- Shoot a bolt of pure magic up to 100 ft away. Grade E, 0 turn cooldown.

Eyeglass Adept - D-grade artisan

"This tomb will suffice for someone like you." Jareth said to the fallen drow as a second voice reverberated off the tunnel walls. As these echoes waned, new sounds took their place in the form of crescendoing chitters from approaching insects. There pursuers had finally caught up, it seemed.

Amidst the sound of a rising tide, however, a small glimmer of hope appeared: glowing orbs a mere stone's throw away hinted that their objective might be at hand. Before the pair could investigate, however, the tunnel shook as a rumble sounded in another part of the labyrinth. This was then followed by an all-encompassing sound, the likes of which pierces through the very material of a man.

Jareth claps his hands to his ears as he falls to his knees. The [Sandman] started to shed his particulate involuntarily under the duress of the sound wave. It would appear as though he were literally falling apart. Thankfully, the sound waned, but it caused their tunnel to crumble slightly as debris fell from the ceiling. Jareth would slowly stand to his feet, reasserting his grip on the bomb as he did so. A persistent ringing was now in his ears that silenced all other sounds. Additionally, the smell of smoke wafted through the tunnel.

I can't hear anything...Where are the bugs? Is Okami still standing? Jareth turned to look for her as a glow appeared behind him.

Foolish boy!

Jareth suddenly about-faced and recited an incantation he could not hear.
[Jareth stomps his foot on the ground, sensing vibrations within range, while simultaneously releasing his sand cloud to blind sense his immediate area. A warped shaft of earth assembles in the air in front of Jareth. It launches itself and spirals towards target (first countering Eeriel's spell, then attacking Eeriel if possible), burrowing through anything in its path. Continues to drill even when forward motion is stopped.]
It wasn't clear which spell would persevere as they careened towards one another.

Assuming the bomb isn't detonated, Jareth would then move to the egg chamber and place/setup the bomb.

The Wolf had prepared herself to wander into the darkness and fight, blinded, until she was overwhelmed by the insect foe and unable to raise her sword again.

But the Gods had smiled upon her on this day.

A quake rippled through the area; noise to loud that her eardrums burst and sent blood trailing down the side of her face. Naught but luck that it hadn't come with a newfound case of vertigo. But, when she opened her eyes... there was light. No, more than that. Just as she had resolved herself to face certain death, she found that which they'd been looking for down in these tunnels the entire time.

The egg cluster.

The irony of the moment hadn't escaped her. It came down upon her light a bolt of lighting come to tear an unassuming tree asunder. And, had anyone in that cave still been capable of hearing anything, they'd have heard laughter. But, that joyous moment wasn't long lived. Okami's feet made up for her ears, somewhat, as she felt the rumble of moving earth beneath them. She glanced back to catch sight of Jareth exchanging spells with someone farther back in the dark. Right.

A bit too early for that.

If the two of them hadn't yet been blown to smithereens, then Okami would move down into the egg chamber alongside Jareth. Maybe in a different world, where she'd entered the nest with a different objective, she might've had some interest in joining in on the assault against that foe hidden out in the caves. But, right now, she had one goal on her mind and she would dedicate all of her effort to making sure that job got done.

If Jareth found any issue with setting that bomb into the egg cluster, she'd help him ease it in. And, if he found any issue, priming it, she was right there with him to get that done as well. Bugs were on their way, there was probably still a hostile third party lurking out there in the shadows and the path out of here was going to be an arduous one if they even got a chance to walk it. But all of that shit could wait until after the bomb had been secured and their package successfully delivered.

Actions (3/3)
1) Move into the egg chamber alongside Jareth.
2) Assist Jareth with properly setting the bomb. [Team-up bonus if applicable]
3) Assist Jareth with properly priming the bomb for timed detonation. [Team-up bonus if applicable]

TLDR: A force of PC's and NPCS have entered the bug hive to place an explosive device in an egg chamber of the bugs. The group has reached the chamber and set the bomb.
1725167793056.png

Sandman's attack cut through the attack from the cat, the crystal around its neck shattered and the sound of bone breaking echoed. The sound of the bugs continued to get closer. The duo moved further into the chamber and primed the bomb, there was still the chance to stop the bomb. Whatever was going to happen, if anyone was going to attempt to escape or try something else, they were going to need to be quick. Though outside the chamber down the two tunnels that led into the chamber, the chittering was getting louder coming from the darkness but every so often a bell sound emitted from the bomb that was planted.

Eeriel groaned as she woke up from the sharp pain from the magic clash. Unexpectedly, she actually survived a hit despite her small frame. Realizing the absurd way things had moved the cat opened her mouth and let out an unrestrained laugh, a laugh that she herself couldn't hear as her ears were still damaged from the previous explosion. All these shenanigans with the bugs and the people from the two nations. She had been playing with chaos, and it decided to put her back in place.

Now that her catalyst had been destroyed, there's not much she could do within the dark tunnel so she decided to ran back the way she came. This time she relies on her nose to track down either her own scent or the drow's to lead her way outside.

After getting the bomb in place, a nagging sort of feeling began growing in Jareth. Standing in the chamber, he was surrounded by the glowing pods that housed the next generation of insectoid menace. His hatred for them roiled inside his being, only being appeased by the thought of their approaching demise at the hand of this device Okami and he had delivered. Even so, there was a persistent unction from outside his psyche, imploring, insisting, ordering him.

Take an egg. Just one. Place it into your belly.

Jareth would find it was impossible to deny the order as his body moved on its own. His abdomen opened to reveal the pocket dimension as his hands reached for an egg. Carefully inserting it into his abdomen, the maw would swirl shut with the egg safely inside. When it was done, Jareth would blink a few times, appearing as though waking from a dream.

His hearing still hadn't been restored, so he turned to visually confirm with Okami. He would gesture for her to follow him as he turned towards the chamber's entrance and activated a lesser form of his tremorsense. The smaller radius would have to do for now. With Okami close behind, he would begin to attempt to navigate back out of the nest. If they get lost or run into dead ends, he'd use earth magic to create more direct paths up to the surface.

A wave of satisfaction rolled over Okami as the bomb was finally set in the egg chamber and their mission completed.

Were it not for the ubiquitous deafness, The Wolf would've had a few words of gratitude and celebration to share. So instead, a firm hand on his shoulder, a nod and smile were all she had for him at that moment. Quite frankly, neither the encroaching enemy force nor the threat of the bomb's detonation could do little to stifle her good mood at that moment.

Though she did find herself a bit confused as she watched the sorcerer pluck an egg from the wall.

She did try to rationalize it for a moment. Perhaps he thought he could use its glow to light their way. Perhaps he intended to use it as a shield; interposed between them and the enemy so as to dissuade the enemy from attacking in fear of hurting their own children. These attempts at making sense of his actions fell rather flat, however, as she watched him... insert the egg into his chest.

...

Hmm.

Perhaps he was just hungry. Questionable meal choice, but insects were high in protein. Mages were an odd sort, weren't they? The Ronin had no idea what it was like to cast magic but, if it was anything like brandishing a sword, then perhaps it was a good way to work up an appetite. A concern for a later time, either way. Even if she were to seek an answer to the strangeness she'd just observed, she lacked the ability to read lips or hear at that moment and, consequently, the means to ask or receive an answer to any question she might ask.

A hand would return to Jareth's shoulder, though for far more practical reasons this time.

The eggs were the only light they could find down here. Okami had no eyes in the darkness, and Jareth's senses could not distinguish friend from foe; only acknowledge presence. The hand on his shoulder and the footsteps at his side would mark the friendly presence in the area for him, so he would have no doubts on who to fire upon if they encountered the enemy on their retreat. And Jareth's magic, in turn, would act as a marker to guide her sword in the dark so that they could fight as one if the need arose.

Only thing left to do was get out of these tunnels before they all came crashing down.

Actions (3/3):
1) Place a hand on Jareth's shoulder as a means of identifying herself to him in the darkness.
2) Move towards the exit alongside Jareth while keeping a hand on his shoulder.
3) Move towards the exit alongside Jareth while keeping a hand on his shoulder.

Sandman's Minashigo successfully planted the bomb. However, the sound of the chitter was now louder and the sound of a bell echoed through the tunnel, signaling the timer of the bomb hit every so often. As they made it away from the eggs, the group was enveloped in darkness. The group followed their path back the way they had come eventually reaching the end of the tunnel and by the lack of a wall they had entered another room outside of the tunnel more than likely the room with the ramp. However it was too dark to see much of anything. Then there was a sudden screech and a stomping sound quickly approached them. [?x ?? grade attacks.]

Eeriel quickly slinked back through the tunnel, though the sense of smell was only mildly helpful the air still smelled fowl. As Erriel moved through the tunnel and hearing a screech as well and then the ground started to tremble, and there was screeching right beside the cat. [?x ?? grade attacks].

Eeriel I The Sus One

As soon as she heard the shriek Eeriel instinctively leapt away from the source, trying to dodge the incoming attack. Although the attack almost gave her heart attack from those terrible shriek, the cat immediately realize something: her hearing's back.

"Ahahahaha!!!!" The cat let out a hearthy laugh to celebrate the return of her sense, her ears twitched as it picked up the way her laugh echoed as she tried to determine the best way out. The cat didn't even bother to see the bug that was attacking her before she just leg it towards the cavern's exit. Even if she still had her catalyst, she wouldn't spent her time dealing with the bugs.

For as close as the insects had sounded before being deafened, Jareth and Minashigo were able to go surprisingly far without encountering anything. When the wall they were using as a guide fell away, it was obvious they had reentered the large chamber they had arrived in a the foot of the ramp. The sound would go unnoticed as Jareth was still deafened. The heavy, quickly approaching vibrations in the ground would be hard to miss however. Jareth's arms flared out to his sides imposing himself between the oncoming threat and Minashigo.

"Fleet Chomp!" Jareth would try to articulate in his deafened state.
[Black sand projectiles fire out of Jareth's form. Vicious maws form at the front of the projectiles as they seek out designated targets. If they connect, the jaws latch on with jagged teeth capable of piercing and crunching durable objects. Jareth would follow up by stomping, causing stalagmites to erupt underneath the bugs that were still alive. Regardless of who was still standing afterward, Jareth would sense out Okami's location and reestablish marching order before continuing their exit from the hive.

It wasn't long before the duo made it back to the edge of the tunnel and the ramp from which they'd descended.

The sound of the approaching insects grew ever louder and their footsteps ever heavier. Not surprising, really. The fact that they'd planted the bomb before encountering their first insectoid foe was luck if she'd ever seen it. Though, considering the looming darkness, perhaps not. One hand remained on Jareth's shoulder to help both of them identify each other's position down there in the darkness. The other quickly lowered towards her sword. It's hard to say what she was expecting to happen next.

But she definitely wasn't expecting for Jareth to flare his arms out in an attempt to get between her and the enemy.

Okami would've have been a hypocrite to get upset over this development considering her own behavior earlier, but she wasn't the one who could easily curve her attacks around allies in a battle, either. A noble gesture to be sure, but dangerous all the same. And slashing wasn't ideal when you struggled to tell where your ally's limbs were. She would draw her sword in the dark as Jareth released what seemed to be a plethora of spells. Then, she would let the sound of his strikes guide her own as she thrust her blade twice into the darkness to aid in his assault; her blade veering widely around his body to find purchase in her target.

Should they both still be standing in the end, then Jareth would have no need to search for Okami.

The very same hand on his shoulder used to mark his presence to avoid striking him in the dark would inform him of her location. And she would continue to navigate out of the tunnels by his side. The bugs certainly weren't the only danger down in these tunnels.

The ticking of the timebomb down below was ample reminder of that.

Actions (3/3):
1) Performs [Sāji Suiryoku] to counter the incoming attacks. Utilizes the hand still on Jareth's shoulder to avoid striking him. [+1 Team-Up Bonus with Jareth's spell.]
2) Basic attack (stab) to lash out at the insects a second time. [+1 combo with [Sāji Suiryoku] if applicable]
3) Continue navigating out of the tunnels whilst keeping a hand on Jareth's shoulder.

Sandman's and Minashigo's attacks counterd most of the attacks that were sent there way. The balls of black sand shot out in all directions. The teeth and orbs along with Minashigo's blind attacks kept the duo moving. Minashigo would recieve a gash to her arm, but with Sandman quickly stomping the ground. The opening was created allowing the two to continue on their way. They continued to travel upward as the sound of the bell disapated. As the sunlight came into view the tunnel was rocked by an explosion the force of the blast sending them out of the tunnel tumbling into one of the fae camps. Signaling they had managed to survive the bug nest and the chamber had been destroyed.

Eeriel would feel the pinchers rip and gnaw at her fur and quickly was torn a part in as the cat attempted to escape further away. However the encounter with the other group along with the bugs proved a little too much. [You have died await the grade.]

Well I hoped some things were learned from this one, both teams took some heavy hits, sabotage group attempted to intercede and stop the bomb however not to much effect. Meanwhile, sandman and Minashigo managed to set the bomb, and now that Jerith has an Egg from whatever voice was in his head could be interesting. All in all, Fae/Empire victory so good job!

The survivors of the bomb-planting squat were quickly named champions by their nations upon their return and the confirmation of the bomb going off. The ground shook, and a force went off, sending bug parts out of holes nearby. This showed that the bomb was far stronger when it was primed and rigged to blow up than to take damage, though it was still dangerous all the same. With the completion and the word sent out reports from other parts of the front came in as a mixed bag. The supply lines were in shambles barely able to keep up with the demand of supplies, and rumor had it the bug queen was still a live and kicking meaning the party that went down to the deepest depths of the nest had failed as well.

Epilogue

A shimmer of light made its way down through the tunnels, weaving in and out of the rubble and some holes that were formed from the bomb. Eventually the light reached the bodies of Kota and John. The shimmer disapated into the ground, a guiding light in the darkness. The beating pulse of a heart slowly started again for the two. As the rubble was move off of them the light took the figure of a woman dressed in Red robes holding a lantern.

"Rise, Champions of the Fae, the world has need of you yet!" The woman spoke softly as the bones, blood, and hearts were repaired and the two were able to stand once again, though they would feel different now. A new power that was awakening inside of them. "Champion of Holy Water and Holy Air, welcome back to the land of the Living, your souls have been judged and while deemed worthy you have been granted a second chance. I shall guide you out of the darkness, fear not for the bugs in this area are gone. I will advise caution to not longer here for long, who knows what else might be here to reclaim what is lost." The woman smiled as she held her lantern up high and then escorted them out and upon reaching the exit she vanished into thin air.
