Fantasy Whisper Wood (A fantasy adventure rp)

Lucas looked at Novah and shook his head laughing "You're worried about me!? HA! The Great Lucas needs not for worries!!! I am perfectly fine!" he lied. But, he could not bear to tell anyone the problem he had at the moment. He scratched the back of his head "I'm fine, honest! It might be just my lack of sleep." Smiling, he tried to change topics. "In all honesty I'm not really sure where I'll go. But I've been on may adventures!" He started to reminiscent the times about his adventures he had. Smiling while he was doing it, he closed his eyes to remember visual about his adventures. "I was actually a leader of a small mercenary group! One was my best friend, and the other...." he paused and shook his head. "Sorry, I don't feel like talking about it..."

Novah didn't believe for one second that he was fine. She was a healer, training to be healer for the royal family, she had a good eye when it came to that kind of thing. However Lucas didn't seem to want her help and she didn't want to pry into matters that were none of her business. Okay she did want to but she wouldn't, she would respect his privacy at least for now. She closed up her little healing pouch and didn't bring it up again.

When he mentioned adventures her eyes got really big, she wanted to hear everything. Every last detail was important. "That sounds so interesting I would love to hear more," she told him. But then his mood switched again. This was obviously about someone from his past, maybe a girlfriend or a rival, either way he was clearly burdened by the memory so she let it go. No fighting, no helping, and now no adventures stories. "Is there something that you would like to talk about?" she asked smiling to cheer him up a bit.

Lucas looked at Novah, feeling guilty with himself. He could tell that Novah was interested in a story from an adventure he had. But, he just wasn't ready to share them. "Not in particular really..." He looked up to the sky and sighed. He didn't want to bring this up but felt like he needed to be respectful. "Hey, you were friends with the Prince right? My condolences to you..." He has a hint of sadness in his voice, he still blamed himself for what happened.

Upon stepping out of the steamy washroom, the strangely cool Summer breeze came drifting from the slightly parted French windows and soothingly cascaded over Michaelis' skin. As if on cue, a scad of goosebumps quickly began to line the face of his arms, the back of his neck, and the sides of his clothed legs as he ruffled his silky, jet black locks dry with a small towel he snagged from the hamper stacked high with clean linen. After having moderately deviated from his original plan, Kael took a nice, hot bath to cleanse himself of the grime, dried blood and sweat he'd managed to pack on the night before and during that morning's unorthodox training regimen. See, he didn't exactly get to get through all of the things he wanted to [and that may have been due to the fact that those meat-head guards down at the conditioning base had kicked him out because he had no source of identification] but he still managed to get a good deal out of his work-out bearing in mind of his physical state. Is it my fault that my tattered uniform's being mending at the moment?

Rolling his eyes as he pushed aside his frustration from that morning's rude encounter, Kael removed the plain white cloth from his head and set it down on the bed before softly untangling any knots from his hair with his fingers. Shifting his kaleidoscopic orbs from the veranda over toward the rosewood vanity set across the room, he caught a glimpse of himself and reflexively frowned in mild aversion.
Dear Heavens, Kael! You look like the embodiment of 'shite' right now. Brows knitted down and upper lip curled up in a scowl, he puttered toward the large mirror centered on the dressing table and huffed exasperatedly as he stopped no more than two feet away, scanning himself with tenacious scrutiny. His complexion had paled two to three shades from his natural pigment. The cut on his lower lip had begun to scar. His eyes were ringed with dark bags -they weren't too apparent where all the attention was drawn to them, but they were bad all the same. Who let you walk around looking like this, you poor sap?

Yet, aside from his unbecoming appearance, the gashes and bruises from the attack were improving at an astonishing rate -which was quite a relief considering his brother was probably gathering ideas on how to get rid of him. In the wake of his hopeful recovery, Kael found that nothing surprised him from that point on. The person who he would've trusted his life with, his best friend, his brother wanted him killed. And for what? Reign over some far off kingdom that had little to no connection with any other powers aside from their own? To think he would've given his life for this cause a few years back, he had undoubtedly learned a lot within the past few years [seeing as this wasn't the turning point of Michaelis' bellicose mindset]. Cutting his crestfallen thoughts short to pull together whatever wits he had left, Kael cleared his throat as he tightened the belt of his black trousers, slipped on his white, loose tunic and then draped his forest green hooded courtepy over his shoulders.

Taking one last look at himself as he pulled on his shined leather boots, he exhaled deeply in the course of realizing this was the best he could pull off for the time being.
It's an upturn, at least. And with that, he hauled himself out the door and began his search for Kalora's study. Being weary of his limitation, he avoided any type of mental conveyance and asked around instead -mind you, the staff wasn't exactly the nicest when asked, but he simply shrugged them off. No use in losing my composure over some petty distaste. After reaching the door to her atelier, Kael straightened himself out before knocking twice and standing by. However, there was no response. Knocking again, he tilted his head and dropped his gaze toward the door hinge out of curiosity. Of course. Noticing the sliver of space between the door and his holder, he found that the door was unlatched and lightly pushed it open further. Wouldn't you know? Ms. I'm-always-punctual isn't here? Smirking at the thought, he trudged through the room with a purposeful amble after kicking the door closed behind him. This'll be fun...

"Thanks," Novah said her eyes dropping to the ground. "We were very close, more than friends you could say." The familiar sting in her heart came back and her eyes watered a little. She wiped her hand across them to stop any tears from falling. "He told me only a few days ago that he was falling in love with me," she wasn't sure why she was telling Lucas all this, he was only being kind offering condolences. Still she felt like she could trust him and continued on, "He was going to ask the Queen for permission to court me." She remembered all their last night talks and the trouble they used to get into. "He was definitely my best friend."

She thought for a minute, "Why do you think someone would do something like this? Just to make a claim for the throne? Queen Emberly's husband is dead she can't exactly produce another heir." A new determination appeared on her face, "And who do you think did this? Maybe it had something to do with Damian getting attacked in the woods..." She looked back to Lucas, "We have to figure this out!"

With nothing to do, Dysis aimlessly wandered the halls. As she did this, she soon became lost in thought about the events of yesterday and today. Of how drastically her life has suddenly took a wrong turn. With herself lost like this she would have failed to notice anyone nearby.

Lucas eyes went wide once he heard that. Not only did he fail to protect the Prince, he also ruined a chance for love to spark. He head started to hurt again, he placed his hand on his has and shook it. That seemed to be the magical way of curing that. He sighed and looked up to the sky. "I got to find a way to redeem myself for this failure..." He thought to himself. He looked at Novah, he eyes filled with guilt, He continued to feel sorry for himself. But, what Novah said to him, he realized he needed to throw those emotions off for now and focus on the new mission.

Lucas nodded his head. "Yeah, we do need to figure this out! With every ounce of our souls!" Lucas Novah with such determination that he felt he could do anything. "I'm not sure who would want to do this, maybe they are trying to make a New World Order or something..." Lucas thought for a moment. "But, wait a moment, why are the humans here then? They come to our world and then the Prince is dead?" Lucas told Novah. "I don't think humans or my good buddy Smoker over there but..." He left out a grunt of frustration. "I'm not sure whats going on anymore."

@Aeron ( I'll only use these if I mention someone that is in the area when I haven't been talking to them.)

Jacob looked up, noticing that Lucas had moved away and towards a woman nearby. He walked over as he put the cigarette between his lips and brushed his hands. "Hey, I felt my ears burning; you guys talking about me?" He chuckled as he heard 'smoker' from his friend. He smiled at the woman and nodded his head in greeting as he introduced himself. "My name is Jacob...I don't think I've met you before?" Jacob asked as he held out his hand, palm upwards as he reconizes her attire to be that of the castles. @Sparkstorm1000 @Lithia

(Just mucking about with my own characters xD )

Azure set down the hammer, wiping her brow with a huff. She had taken off her pieces of armor before starting to work, and would leave them off until she decided to train next. It left her arm feeling strangely bare, but at this point she didnt mind. Wandering to the back of the forge, she exited into a small, grassy field at the back. It was where she had her equipment set up, a smartly laid out assortment of targets for shooting and figures for striking, along with a series of platforms, rings, and bars that she used for agility work. She couldve easily been a soldier, but it had seemed too restrictive at the time for her to join up. Instead of working out, she climbed onto the highest platfort and sat down, watching the sunset from her perch as she cooled off from working.

Something like this, although more natural looking since it wouldve been built by Azure herself

Kalora hurried back to her study. She wouldn't say she has wasted valuable time, but she had definitely spent a little too much time talking to Novah and mister Floínn. Of course it had both been for important reasons. Comforting the heart-broken girl was, to her, almost as important as finding out more about the Dragon Kingdom and everything involving the attacks. After all, a distracted and heart-broken healer could prove very inconvenient should there be another attack. That, and Kalora just genuinely cared about the other people in the palace. Especially if she felt like there was something she could do for them. Talking to mister Floínn was also very important. What if he actually had had scrolls on the Dragon Kingdom? That would have proven very useful in their research. But alas, they had to work solely with whatever information they had already gathered.

The atmosphere in the palace halls was grim, nothing too surprising. But it did feel quite unsettling to see even the servants and maids who were always the happiest with such dark looks. It wouldn't take long before the wildest of rumors would start spreading. And for the safety of the humans and Kael Kalora hoped none of the rumors would involve them being responsible for the recent events. She shook the worries off her mind as she reached her study and opened the door. Much to her surprise, the room wasn't empty as she had left it.

"Kael. You're here already," she said in a calm tone, but mentally cursing herself for arriving after him. She wasn't going to hear the end of this anytime soon, was she? Kalora closed the door behind her and walked over to her desk.

"I not sure what is happening either Lucas, but I think I have a plan to get more information." Novah smiled at his determination, she would need help and he was just the right person. Her eyes sparkled with a hint of deviousness, "To be honest I don't think the humans have any connection with... Everestt," she whispered not wanting anyone to overhear them. "So tonight is going to be the funeral at the beach," she began but stopped just as someone came over to them.

"Hello Jacob, I'm Novah," she said placing her hand in his slowly and cautiously. "No we haven't met previously but I'm pleased to meet you now." Novah hadn't seen him around before so she was being careful what she said in front of him. "Are you friends with my good friend Lucas?" she asked him trying to get a feel for the type of person he was. She noticed he had something in his mouth, "Is that like a pipe? Those are bad for your health you know." Novah knew she wasn't working right at the moment but she couldn't help it as a healer she always put everyone's health as a top priority.

--------

Emberly paced back and fourth on the beach as the sky faded into a twilight glow. It would not be long now. When the sky grew dark she would light the funeral pyre for her only son. When the flames went out it would all be over. Emberly would always have a mark on her heart but the Shifters believed when someone passed on, their spirit was reincarnated into a new animal. The Prince had been a tiger, so his spirit would join with the Spirit of the Forest and then be born into a new tiger. Everestt would be free to run and hunt permanently as a tiger for the rest of days. Death was another stage of living for them and so once the flames became embers and his spirit released, they would not mourn him any more.

It was not entirely true, those closest to the Prince would miss him very much but the Shifters held onto the belief of immortality in their true animal form. A part of Emberly would mourn him forever but no one could ever hurt him now, he would become the mighty creature she knew him to be.

There were torches placed in the sand around the pyre, the waves lapped peacefully at the shore, and soon the stars would be out. Their funerals were truly beautiful and never before witnessed by anyone other than a Shifter.

Emberly's guards watched her closely from a distance to give her space, they were the best guards charged with protecting their Queen. They did not make careless mistakes and they knew that only shifters may be present for the funeral.

Growing tired, Emberly sat down in the soft sand. Yes soon it would be over and she would be able to find peace and comfort in all of this.

As the sun sank low, Cerulean halted his work. He had finished the preparations, despite being on his own. He had secretly hoped that his work would continue until after it was time for the funeral, but he was out of luck. Despite their beliefs, he hated going to the funerals. He felt they were still such sad events, and they didnt give him the closure that his sister experienced. They only made him miserable; he was one who needed time to move past grief. With a heavy sigh, he began his walk down to the beach, scuffing his feet as he arrived and found his Queen already there.

Azure watched the sun slip down, silently wiping angry tears away. She would let her anger and sadness show in tears now and perhaps late, when no one was around, but at the funeral she would stay resolutely composed. She climbed down from her platform slowly, giving herself an extra few moments before making the short walk to the shoreline. Cerulean was already there, standing just at the edge of the sand, and as she walked further, he joined her.

They stood just beyond the torches, staring at the pyre, Azure's face peaceful and resigned, Cerulean's uncomfortable and saddened.

Lucas looked at the two and smiled. He'd just arrive in this place yesterday and he already has two friends. It started to remind him of his adventures be shook off the memories of them. Looking at the two, be began to talk. "Yeah, I mentioned Novah earlier When I told you about how we humans and shifters look the same!" Turning his head over to Novah to continue speaking. "Oh, by the by, Smoker here apparently is a human."

@Aeron @Lithia

Though never having really explored the place, Dysis found what she assumed to be a smithy. Judging by the anvil, burning embers and ingots scattered about that is. Nearing the main work area, Dysis began to look around to she who might own the forge.

"Another human? How many of you are here?" she asked Jacob. Novah thought back to when she found Damian and Scarlett in the clearing. What had they been doing? There were rules the Shifters followed when it came to relationships, she didn't think there was anything against being friends though. Still she couldn't help feeling the need to be cautious around the humans.

It was getting late, the sun was setting, Novah new it was almost time to go. Most of the people would be heading to the beach soon if they weren't there already. "Hey Lucas I'm going to go, I have to do something important, it's what we were talking about earlier." She didn't want to say too much in front of the human, besides you needed to have wings to do this. She new that Lucas was also an eagle and he could go with her but there's no way anyone else could. "I guess I'll see you later, and it was nice meeting you Jacob." She turned and started walking towards the palace.

"I really don't know about the other humans here, miss." Jacob said a little curious, noticing her tone of voice change to a bit cautious. Jacob waved to her after she said goodbye and turned to Lucas as smoke came out of his nose. "What do you guys think about humans, eh?" He asked him as he ran his fingers through his hair a bit to comb it.

"W-wai-" Lucas sighed and waved goodbye to Novah, he wanted to show his respects for the kingdom by being there but felt like he didn't deserve to. Turning his head, he looked at Jacob. Lucas thought for a moment and sighed. "Well, I can't really speak for other people but, I don't think of you any different than anyone else." Lucas told him, coughing a bit as soon as smoke got in his face.

"Opps...sorry." Jacob said as he saw his smoke reach his friends face. He put out the cigarette stub and began to wave his hands everywhere, trying to ward off the smoke. "Well, I hope I'm not gonna be suspect to what just happened, though I wouldn't be surprised if I was. I mean, group of humans randomly show up out of nowhere and the next day, the prince is...you know." Jacob shrugged as he leaned against a tree.

Lucas shrugged he didn't realize that some people might turn on the humans for what just happened. "Well, they really don't have any valid proof, so, I'm sure you'll be fine." Lucas smiled and looked around. He felt a guilt for some reason... He wanted it to stop. "Well, Smoker, lets go find a spot to rest, now any good ones?" he was curious, maybe some sleep will put this guilt to rest.

"What about the stables?" Jacob said. "Im pretty sure that's gonna be the quietest place around here right now." He said as he yawned. He was actually pretty tired himself. "But...I dont know where the stables are, so..." Jacob blinked as he realized this.

Waiting always was a torturous thing in Kael's view, that being said he wasn't one to just sit around and twiddle his thumbs. Sauntering around the messily organized work area as his eyes carefully scanned over every nook and cranny, he reached out and grabbed a few interesting looking books from a nearby shelf and skimmed through a few pages. He took note of their respective places, of course. Taking a seat on one of the nearby dark leather armchair's, Kael set the bundle of books down and began to quickly sift through the one in his hand. No, this wasn't his study. And yes, there was a high chance that Kalora had a few documents in that room that she might not have wanted anyone to view... but then again, when did Michaelis ever care for anyone's privacy. Okay. Maybe that was a little too curtly stated, but he wasn't one to succumb to boredom. That being said, he was willing to rummage through another's belongings to avoid said boredom. However, before he could become too engrossed with his book, Kalora had walked into the study and held forth to him as if neither of them acknowledged her tardiness.

A single brow rose at suit to her call as he closed up his book and set it down, following her movements when she closed the door and shuffled over toward her desk.
"Ah, Kalora! How nice of you to finally show up." He began, clearly trying to prod her for a reaction. Lazily getting to his feet, Kael straightened out the hem of his tunic and followed her to her desk, seating himself on the edge of the walnut coloured platform. "Did you get lost on your way here? I wouldn't blame you, these corridors are as complex as a warren." Maybe he was having a little too much fun with this? Either way, something had caught his eye long enough to direct his taunting in another direction. "Oh? What have we here?" He muttered, a devilish smirk curling at the edges of his lips as he reached out to pick out a specific book from a crate set on the floor beside her desk. And seeing as a page -one many chapters forth- was marked with a ribbon, he figured she was well into it. Kael's eyes seemed to light up with mischief upon reading the title. "A romance novel? Oh-ho... no. I really have missed a lot."

"There were a few other things that needed to be done," Kalora simply stated. It wasn't a lie, after all. She did really feel like she needed to talk to Novah first, and then there was the having to see if she could find more information on the Dragon Kingdom. "Ever heard of not judging a book by its cover? " she asked him. "It is no secret I have a thing for stories filled with Drama and Romance, but I haven't had the time in ages. This particular book is more of research material. Don't let the title fool you, this work is quite violent and bloody... Records of some of the most horrible murders committed in the name of passion."

That ought to shock him. Such a sweet, innocent looking girl like her, nothing more than a bard, and then with a passion for such horrid stories? She inwardly chuckled. If only he knew what her other job was. Well, likely he would find out soon enough.

Novah circled around the palace, finding a secluded spot out of eyesight she quickly shifted into her eagle form. She gracefully flew up to Everestt's balcony, shifting back once she was sure no one was in the room. She slipped through the curtains, what she saw surprised her. The room looked as if he hadn't died there. The bedding was fresh and the walls and floor had been cleaned, there wasn't a speck of dust. That makes things difficult she thought. How was she supposed to find clues if everything was already gone. Novah slowly walked over to his bed and sat down, she smoothed her hand across the blankets. If she closed her eyes she could almost believe that he would come running in laughing about a prank he had played in the kitchen.

She wondered if the killer would come back and strike again or had they accomplished their goal? Novah quietly went over to the book shelves and found the journal she knew was hiding there. Inside there was poetry and important things Everestt never wanted to forget. She went back to the bed, flipping through the pages. On the very last page with writing there was a strange symbol. It seemed to be blood. Novah gasped, and dropped the book making a loud bang. Whoever killed the Prince did this, she realized, they must have put it back on the shelf so it wouldn't be found right away. She quickly picked the book up worried that someone might have heard the loud noise. There could be more clues in here.

Novah slipped out through the door this time hurrying down the hall until she felt she was safe. She would take the book back to the healer's hut and read it when she was alone.

Usually Emberly would light the torch and hand it off to the family for them to say their sentiments but this time it was all her. She looked around at the crowd that had gathered, not as large as when her father had died, but it was a good size. Most of the Shifters didn't attend funerals unless they personally knew the family, feeling the ceremony to be private, however it was a little different when it was for a member of the royal family. She didn't see Kalora there and was a little relived, it meant she was doing something important probably to do with he son's murder. The faster all of this was solved the better, she still did not have a plan to protect the throne and it was slightly worrisome.

After the fire burned low and turned to embers there would be a giant feast back at the palace. She knew that Cerulean probably worked very hard to prepare something delicious. For a minute Emberly wondered if it was smart to let anyone who wanted into the palace, she would make sure to tell the guards to check and make sure that all who entered were in fact Shifters.

One by one the stars began to come out as if to light the way for Everestt's spirit. Emberly stood and all the hushed whispers around her stopped. She walked to her guards and one of them handed her an unlit torch. Holding it over a small fire the torch lit up, as she walked to the pyre the guards lit the torches in the sand lighting up a walkway behind her. Emberly stopped at the pyre, she whispered her love for her son so only she could hear it, then louder so everyone could hear she said, "May we meet again when we are both free, wild and running through eternity." It was what they said at all funerals, the crowd echoed the words and Emberly lit the pyre standing back as the flames rose high.

Now she would wait until the flames burned away. Most people would leave though a few might stay and speak with her or others if they wished. This was the last time for tears and sadness, at the feast they would be happy celebrating Everestt's life and not mourning his death. The Queen sat in the soft sand watching the fire and hoping her son's spirit found it's way by the light of the stars.

Azure and Cerulean watched silently as others gathered and the sun's light finally disappeared completely. Many of the people around them were talking in soft voices, a lot about how the Prince died. To the siblings, who had an inkling from being in the palace, it was morbid. They moved away from the crowd, standing slightly closer to the torches and to the side. No one noticed them move away, which suited the pair just fine.

Watching, Cerulean felt waves of emotion crashing inside of him. Anger, hurt, sadness, and no small amount of fear. None were shown on his face, but Azure could tell from his clenched jaw that this was affecting him. She slid an arm around his waist, leaning against him as if she needed comfort while he draped his arm over her smaller frame. They both knew that she didnt, and the contact was for his benefit, but pretended otherwise. Azure was a picture of peace and acceptance, repeating the customary words in a strong, but gentle voice. Cerulean uttered them softly, his brow furrowed harshly.

As the pyre burned, many of those in attendance left. Those that didnt moved a small distance away and began speaking in conspiracy theories again. Cerulean excused himself softly to his sister; he had to go and finalize things for the feast. Azure caught his hand and gave it a squeeze, one he returned happily before they parted. Left alone as her brother retreated, Azure watched the flames silently leaping higher and higher. She found peace in them- not unlike being in the forge. The blonde shifter stayed where she was, weigh shifted to one foot and the other hip popped, arm across her stomach with the other resting on it and that hand placed against her lips, the stance of a saucy individual. But her expression was soft, eyes gentle as they reflected the fire.

Lucas laughed "Man Smoker, you're such a help!" He chuckled and sighed, he started to realize the grim mood around the town. Lets just find a spot to sleep..." Lucas sighed and started to walk off to find a spot to sleep.

Eyes seemed to look out from a tree to the funeral. "Oh, what a sad day!" a voice laughed quietly, he looked around, kneeling on a tree branch covered by leaves. "I wasn't the one that kill the Prince... Oh well." He strange man laughed quietly and help up his gauntlet. He pushed a button and claws came out of it. "I'll get my chance to Slice right through some flesh. Like a hot knife through butter!" The man continued to laugh quietly. He sheathed his retractable claws and stood up from the branch. "I'll tell you, that will be a fun day!!!" He told himself with a evil smile. He jumped from the tree and shifted into a Vulture, flying away into the darkness.
