Fantasy Whisper Wood (A fantasy adventure rp)

Novah stopped in front of a small hut, "This is it, come on in I'll just light some lanterns," she said with a smile. As she got two lanterns she couldn't shake the feeling that something was weird, but she ignored it, her nerves were probably just acting up after everything. She put one lantern on the small table and the other in the side room with two tiny beds, she tossed Dominic an apple knowing he was hungry. Novah went about getting some berries, bread, and water in case he wanted more, he did say he was starving after all.

"So what kind of adventure are you on?" Novah asked sitting at the table, her head in her hands excited to hear all about it. "As a healer I pretty much have to stay close by in case I'm needed, I don't get to travel much so I love to listen to stories of adventures that others have." She wondered if he was on some sort of rescue mission, or maybe a treasure hunt, he mind was buzzing with ideas.

Scarlett watched Dysis walk away. That was probably the best conversation they had ever had despite seeing each other almost every day at school. She didn't pity the girl mostly because she felt like she could relate to her. Looking down at her now finished drawing she rolled it up, stuck it in her back pocket and headed inside herself. She could hear laughter and music, it must be the feast she heard everyone talking about earlier.

She slowly walked into the dining hall, it was so pretty all lit up with candles and decorated with flowers. The Queen was sitting at the far end smiling and chatting with people. Scarlett wondered if it was hard to look happy when you just lost your child, but it was part of their beliefs and it was all they knew. Looking around she saw lots of sweets and food everything looked delicious. She picked up a small bowl and put some fresh raspberry looking berries in it with a bit of cream. She felt a little out of place being the only human in the room and the guards seemed to be watching her closely. Intimidated Scarlett took her plate into the next room which seemed to be part of a kitchen, it was warm and smelled even better than the other room. She grabbed a seat at an empty table in the corner and began to eat the berries. They were amazing. Better than any berries back home. Maybe tomorrow she would convince Dysis to try some but for now she was going to eat a lot of them. She dipped the deep red berry into the cream, Scarlett thought it might just be the best thing she'd ever eaten. She was glad no one seemed to be near by to see her eating so many berries.

Cerulean grabbed the pot he needed and began to mix the ingredients. The guests had gobbled up his small chocolate and berry cakes in what seemed like minutes and were asking for more. With a sigh, he realize he had forgotten the extract he needed. Stepping into another part of the kitchen, where the pantry was, he stopped short. There was someone sitting at the small table they kept there for the staff. "Uh.. hello." He greeted her softly, trying to remember where he had seen her before. Breakfast. Oh, right, shes one of the humans, he recalled, putting a smile on his tired face to seem more friendly. "Those berries are delicious, yes? We call them cloudberries." He said, opening the pantry and pulling out the extract he needed. Mint; it gave the cake the right amount of lightness to play well with the berries.

"You can say that indeed. I'm surprised you haven't figured that out on your own yet," Kalora replied very calmly. She had not quite forgotten or forgiven the things that had happened in the past. But regardless of what had happened, it were things they would have to put beside them for now. With the threats seemingly looming in every corner, they would have to work together if they wished to protect the kingdom. Something, she hoped, they both desired one way or another. And though on the one hand it surprised her Kael seemed to clueless to think further than he was doing now, it also made her quite relieved to know he still had no idea of her actual occupation within the palace. Maybe it just meant she was really good at keeping up the act of the innocent young girl and bard she always pretended to be around people who didn't know any better. Well, except for the people who knew her as a kind and wise friend who might have seen more than what's good for her. Those people probably suspected there was more to the bard than met the eye. Yet the one who knew the most of her past seemed to know the least about her now. She inwardly chuckled and turned her attention back to the current matters and Kael's question.

"I just paid a small visit to the library to see whether they might have some old books or scrolls," she said. "Unfortunately, as you have just said so yourself, they haven't been the talk of the realm in a while. Most information on them dates back to far before they closed themselves off from the outside world. No recent information, nothing valuable enough to pay attention to. We'll have to do it with whatever rumors we can pick up, and perhaps some of the very old information. But news...? No news."

Scarlett was almost finished her bowl of berries and cream. She was sitting at the table not really paying attention to anything other than how good they tasted so when she heard an unexpected voice she jumped. She had seen him at breakfast with his sister, that's right he seemed pretty protective of her. Scarlett had always wanted a brother or sister but her mother already thought she was enough trouble so she never bothered having any more children. "Hello," she said swallowing a berry in her mouth, "I'm Scarlett," she told him with a smile.

"Cloudberries, that's a nice name. They are amazing. I had no idea something could taste so good." She frowned a little, "We don't have anything like this back home." She watched him get exactly what he needed, he seemed to know right where everything was. He didn't look too much older than her and yet he was already the palace chef, back home something like that would never be possible for someone so young. He must be older than he looks, she thought, these Shifters age much different than humans do.

"What are you making?" she asked him curiously. It was probably something delicious. Scarlett usually didn't eat anything that wasn't healthy, growing up a gymnast meant a strict diet but she wasn't a gymnast anymore and here she wasn't even a cheerleader anymore. She could eat anything she wanted for the first time in her life. She hadn't told anyone but Dysis that she wanted to stay here but the berries were so good they were another whole reason not to go home.

"Hello, Miss Scarlett. Im Cerulean." He said in a friendly manner, giving her a small half bow. The shifter watched her face curiously, noting her small frown as she spoke of her home and its lack of cloudberry-like treats. "Well, then Im glad you came to Whisper Wood, because everyone should taste cloudberries in their life." Cerulean said, turning back to her as he fiddled with the top of the vial. He still had a smile on his face, but it was slipping a little.

"I am making cakes. Little, personal ones." He said, making his hands into about the size of the dishes they were baked in. Unbeknownst to him, humans had a similar dessert called cupcakes. "Dark chocolate, filled with cloudberry custard and topped with a sweet cream mint frosting and a chocolate dipped cloudberry as garnish. The guests love them. I thought I had made enough, but.." He trailed off in his explanation, giving a shrug and running a hand through his hair as his smile fell away and revealed a stressed frown. "Ah, well, I would be out of a job if no one wanted more of my food." He said, giving a small laugh. His blue-gray eye rested on her again, and he tilted his head to the side slightly. "Why are you in here, instead of out wit the other guests?"

"It's nice to officially meet you Cerulean, and thank you for making such good food." Remembering he had made breakfast for everyone earlier she hoped he had time to sneak in a nap before making this feast. Being a chef seemed like a difficult job especially if you had to feed a whole palace.

"That sounds so good," Scarlett told him giggling, "Like a cupcake only yummier." He looked tired and worn out, she wondered why he was doing all this work alone, didn't he have people to help him? It must be like 3 am or something, she was a little tired herself but it was hard to sleep when there were so many new things all around.

"I came in here because people were giving me weird looks, I don't think anyone really trusts us. I understand with everything that's been happening and well, I didn't want to interrupt anyone's good time." She shifted a bit nervously, "Why are you working all alone? This seems like an awful lot for one person," she hesitated for a minute but continued, "If you need any help I could try, I mean I'm not a chef or anything but I know how to wash dishes."

Cerulean gave her a smile. "I certainly try. Its the only thing Ive ever wanted to do, so this job has been a dream come true." He said humbly, trying to divert her praise. He wasnt all that acclimated to praise- the palace expected amazing food and he simply delivered. He had never thought about impressing people. The shifter raised an eyebrow. "A cupcake?" He repeated as a question, testing the way the world felt in his mouth. It was odd, but he was glad that there was something at least a little familiar to her.

But when she explained why she was hanging around the kitchen, he frowned. "Mmm.." He hummed thoughtfully, before stepping closer and lowering his voice a little. "Well, you must understand, it is nothing personal. We are a secretive people by nature, and humans are.. well they were myths to us. Stories to scare children. Obviously, you are not quite the monsters the tales made you out to be, but it is hard to move past something that has been taught since childhood. In addition, our prince was healthy and young, many in the kingdom are smart enough to know that he did not really pass for natural causes. So to have you all arrive and find out he is dead, it is a rather big shock for the kingdom. People are simply afraid of the unknown." He said gently, offering her an apologetic smile.

"And I am working alone tonight because I sent my staff home. They were grieving and distracted. They needed to be with their families, and I didnt want to risk a kitchen fire." He explained, giving another shrug. "It is quite alright, Miss Scarlett, you ar a guest of the party as much as anyone. You should be enjoying yourself, not washing dishes. But, if you do not wish to rejoin the party, I wouldnt mind the company while I bake." He gave her a sheepish smile, gesturing for her to follow if she wished.

"My friend, one of the other humans worries that we are in danger after... the prince... you know," she told Cerulean. "I really like it here though so I hope after a while everyone realizes that we're pretty harmless." The very idea that she was a scary monster from a bedtime story seemed silly to her but if she thought about all the damage humans could and did do to each other and the earth it made more sense. She didn't really want to open that up for discussion so she kept quiet about it. Besides they were just a group of innocent kids not the entire human race. "Maybe whoever... did that to the prince brought us here too? Maybe they expected us to take the blame for it so you wouldn't suspect them?" Scarlett laughed a little at her made up theory.

She thought it was very kind of Cerulean to send his staff home so they could mourn with their families even though it meant a lot more work for him. Scarlett was glad to have met someone who wasn't suspicious of her so she hopped up from the chair to follow him when he offered. "I can do that," she said with a smile, her green eyes sparkling. "I've never really watched anyone bake before, my mom hated having people in her kitchen." She couldn't wait to see how these delicious sounding cupcakes were made.

Dominic took the apple and started to eat it, he looked around the place, seeing all the medical supplies, turning his head back at Novah, he responded. "Well, I'm not sure, I'm just on the road to see the land." He lied, luckily he was able to say some excuse rather quickly. He shrugged at Novah, he really didn't feel like telling some story, but he needed to gain her trust. "Well, lets see... There is a lot of them. Oh yeah I got a story for you." Dominic told he and finished eating his apple before he started.

"Well, it was a dark and stormy night! I was out at sea with these Pirates! I was tied up over a a wooden plank over the water. (This is when I switch from the character saying what happened to what is happening in the story.)

The rain was harsh on Dominic skin, it felt like needled were stabbing at him. He was tired up, over the water on a small wooden plank. A pirate walked up to Dominic and placed his sword on his back. "Any last words you landlubber!!!!" The Pirate continued to stick his sword on Dominic's back. Dominic looked back at smiled, he turned his head to look at the pirate. Yeah, you must be one stupid pirate if you forgot an important feature that I have with me!" Dominic laughed, the Pirate looked confused, he then pushed him off the plank, falling, Dominic go used his claws to get out of the rope and quickly turned into a vulture to fly back up onto the boat. The pirates looked shock and confused, one of them jumped next to Dominic and slashed him with his sword, but, Dominic guarded his his claws and counted the attack, throwing the pirate to the ground. "Ha, You'll need to try more than that to beat me!!!" Dominic laughed as a bunch of pirates charged him with his sword. Dominic smiled and he strike them to the ground, one by one. Dominic brushed off his hands and sat down, but he celebrated too quickly, the Captain of the ship walked up to him with a sword, he strike down his sword on top of Dominic. Luckily, Dominic got out of the way and attacked the Captain Pirate. They were parrying each other attacks to no end. But, then luckily, a loud burst of thunder screeched a crossed the sky, making the Captain loose concentration. Seizing his chance, Dominic slashed at the Captain. The Captain, just feeling one blow to Dominic's strike, fell to the ground, defeated he gave up and just laid on the wooded ground of the ship. Dominic laughed, Well then, with that our of the way, I think its time to free those orphans!" Dominic smiled as he took the keys from the pirate and opened a locked door. In in were some children that were kidnapped from there orphanage. "Don't worry all you little kitties, I'll get you back with your home!" Dominic smiled and the kids cheered in pure happiness.

(This whole story is a lie btw :3)

Novah waited impatiently but politely for Dominic to tell his story. As he was telling it she almost didn't blink she was listening so hard. She snacked on a few berries while she listened not looking away from him. "Awww, you really saved all those kids? That's so nice you're like a hero or something," she said smiling at him. "They must have been so happy to get back home safe and sound, and their parents must have rewarded you." Novah wished she could go on an adventure like that, she wasn't a fighter and definitely wouldn't be able to protect herself but her healing skills would probably be really helpful and she knew a lot about poisons.

Shaking herself awake from her daydreams she said, "We should go flying together sometime, I shift into an eagle." Novah really wanted to make more friends to keep her mind of Everestt and since they both could fly it seemed like a good idea. "How is the food by the way? Did you need anything else?" she asked him remembering he was a guest and she should make sure he was alright.

Dysis was lost. Yeah. Wandering around the palace without a clue where she was going. It was late, that was obvious. Pausing she would lean on a wall. Her previous troubles resurfacing.

"No one will cause you harm, not while youre guests of the Queen." He reassured her, moving back to his bowl of ingredients. He added a dash of the mint, then set the bottle aside for later. He continued adding wet ingredients, stirring carefully but quickly. Cerulean looked up at her gesturing to a nearby stool with his free hand. "Please, sit. Make yourself comfortable." He said with a smile, before returning his blue-gray eyes to the bowl. "I love having people come into the kitchen. It is the best place to get to know one another. I believe it is the room with the most love of a whole house. After all, if you love someone, you cook for them, yes?" The shifter said, grinning up at her while reaching for a bowl of melted dark chocolate. He folded it into the batter, adding richness and more flavor. "Here, taste the batter. Its my favorite part about making these." He said, dipping a spoon into the dark brown batter and then holding it out to her. He got a spoon for himself and ate a bit of the batter, analyzing the taste carefully. The chocolate flavor was rich and decadent already, and even though one couldnt taste the mint specifically, there was a note of lightness in the taste that kept the chocolate from being too heavy.

Dominic thought to himself for a moment "Is this girl stupid or something..." He shook his head and looked at Novah. "Yes, because orphans who live in an orphanage have parents..." Dominic said in complete sarcasm. Dominic continued to shake is head, "No, I don't need anything, I'm fine." Dominic stated "Of course, it be nice if you would shut your trap!" Dominic thought in his head and looked at the girl. "An eagle eh? I knew someone who was an eagle... Sure, I wouldn't mind going flying with ya..." Dominic told her.

"I meant the orphanage parents, as in the people who run the orphanage and take care of the children until they find families," Novah said secretly happy he didn't slip up or make a mistake. There was a good chance he was telling the truth, either that or just a good liar and told this story a lot. "I just thought that they would cook you a big meal, or the kids would do something cute to say thank you is all, no need to be so sarcastic." Novah felt a little better letting a stranger stay the night after making sure he was probably telling the truth. It was a trick Everestt taught her, he used it on the palace staff all the time to find out things he shouldn't know. She stood up and pushed her chair into the table, "I'm going to head to bed, I need to go to the palace first thing in the morning. If you change your mind about needing something let me know I don't mind."

-----

Scarlett watched closely as Cerulean added ingredients. It was pretty amazing watching someone effortlessly doing their chosen craft, maybe people felt the same watching her sketch something. She jumped up on the stool he gestured to, it was a little high and she was a little short but she made it work. "You know that makes a lot of sense," she told him. "I guess things are a little different back home though, people cook less because they are so busy with their jobs and they go out to restaurants a lot but I like what you said better." She really did like the sound of what he said, being a romantic at heart she thought it was sweet. Everything seemed so much better here, it wasn't a simple life by any means but it made more sense to her than the hustle and bustle of back home.

She took the spoon he handed to her and tasted the chocolate batter. "This is amazing, it's so good," she said with a big smile, "I didn't know it was possible for something to taste this delicious." She made sure to get every last bit of batter off the spoon, "Thank you," she giggled, "I think I just found my favorite room in the palace." Scarlett was naturally a curious person and Cerulean did say that the kitchen was the best place to get to know someone so she decided to ask some questions while he was working away. "That was your sister at breakfast right? You seemed pretty protective of her," she laughed a little. "I always wanted a brother or sister."

Cerulean frowned as she talked about her home and their lack of cooking. "That doesnt sound very pleasant. Everyone should learn to cook, and should cook for those they care for. I cook for the palace partly because it gives me the freedom to have an many ingredients as I want to experiment with, but also because it allows me to show my love for my people, my kingdom, and my Queen." He said simply, even though the words held a depth of emotion that he didnt usually show. But Scarlett needed someone to open up to her, so she could feel at ease. The easiest way to get someone comfortable with you is to let yourself be uncomfortable around them.

Her joy at tasting the batter brought a massive grin to Cerulean's face, as nothing made him feel better but people enjoying his work. "You can come in here any time. You are, by far, the best company Ive had. Most of my staff are fairly grumpy." He said, with a sly smile to her as he began pouring the batter into small bowls. They were shaped like cloudberry flowers, which would look like daffodils to Scarlett. His pouring was neat and practiced, and he spoke easily as he did it.

"Yes, that was Azure. She works in the village, at the forge. Making and maintaining weapons and equipment, but she also makes beautiful metal jewelry." He said, his smile turning tender at her mention. "And yes, I am very protective of her. She's younger than I am, and our parents died about 6 of your years ago. She is tough and capable with alost every weapon imaginable, even a few of her own invention, but she's innocent in a lot of ways. I didnt appreciate the way the Elf was ogling her at breakfast." He admitted with a nervous laugh, finishing the pouring and starting to place the little flower-shaped bowls onto a tray to put them in the oven.

Dominic waved his hand goodbye and laid down, he snickered quietly to himself. It appeared my plan is going better than expected, of course, I didn't think the girl would be that stupid!" Dominic thought to himself and grabbed an apple and started to crush it. "I'm sorry Queen, but that assassin sealed your fate! Now then, once I kill you, I'll be a step above the rest of the assassins! I'll be a legend!" Dominic thought to himself has be crushed the apple in his hand. He then placed some covers over him and fell asleep.

"I took a cooking class once for fun," Scarlett told Cerulean, "But we didn't learn a whole lot, just how to make cookies and muffins. Then my mom said it was a waste of money because we had a chef at home, but she never made anything half as good as that batter." She thought it was really nice how much he cared about his kingdom and his Queen. They were lucky to have someone so talented around.

"How can anyone be grumpy when there are cloudberries around?" she laughed. Everything Cerulean did was a work of perfection and she watched as he poured the batter without spilling a drop. "Those are pretty, the cakes will look like flowers when they're finished." It made her wonder why no one back home ever thought to make cupcakes into pretty shapes. If she ever did go back home she'd have to try it out. "Thank you, I'll have to stop by more often. Especially if there are more delicious things like cloudberries," she blushed a little, glad that someone didn't think she was a monster.

"Making weapons sounds like hard work, but an important job. Does she visit you often?" It was impressive to Scarlett that Azure could not only create weapons but wield them as well. Maybe tomorrow she would visit her workshop and say hello. "The Elf's gaze was a little unnerving," she agreed with Cerulean, "He liked my drawings though so maybe he's not all bad, but definitely not someone you'd want your little sister spending time with." The Elf had seemed powerful, like he could kill a group of people with little to no effort at all but maybe if Azure was as tough as Cerulean seemed to think she could handle herself. Of course Scarlett wouldn't tell Azure's big brother that if her life depended on it, besides it was terribly cute how much he cared about her. "I wouldn't worry too much though, your sister seems smart and that Elf seems like he could be trouble, she's probably just keeping an eye on him to make sure he doesn't do anything bad."

She tucked her hair behind her ears and watched him put the cakes on a pan. "How long do those take to bake?" she asked, curious of how the finished product would taste.

Cerulean listened to her talk with a happy smile. She had a nice voice, one her could get used to hearing. When she spoke, she reminded him of Azure for some reason. He nodded agreeing with her. "Azure does well with her job, but it keeps her a little too busy for frequent visits." He admitted a little sadly, giving a shrug. "But she is very capable of caring for herself, even as inexperienced in romance she is. But I still worry, and I always will. Its my job. And its her job to be annoyed by it." He gave her another smile and he picked up the tray and put it in the waiting oven, which was heated by a wood fire.

"Hopefully not long, because the guests will have my head if they dont get them soon." He said jokingly, turning back to his wood stove. Now it was time to make the custard and frosting. He gathered the needed supplies, which included a large bowl of cloudberries.

"I'm sure she'll appreciate you looking out for her someday," Scarlett said in a hopeful voice, "Even if she doesn't show it right now." She had dated a few bad apples in the past and sort of wished someone had been there to tell her to stay away from them. Even though she did find it a little fun to worry her mom by bringing home guys with tattoos, or fast cars, she never actually dated those guys it was all just a game. In her experience it was the guys who seemed to be good that were the real trouble makers, those guys with the tattoos, that was the worst thing about them and they wore them for everyone to see. The jocks with the high grades and flawless school records, they were the ones to watch out for, they had someone to cover their tracks.

"I bet Azure worries about you when you start to date someone too she probably just doesn't say anything," she said to Cerulean laughing. "Or maybe she talks them in secret? Warning them about her big brother?" she knew that was pretty unlikely but really funny.

"I sure hope so, because its a lot of work." Cerulean said with a laugh. His little sister was a handful, mostly because she wanted to be, but in his mind the hassle was worth it. She was a good person, strong and full of life. And she deserved the best in the world, which was why he was so opinionated when it came to her taste in men. Not that she really had much taste- she was as busy as he was, and it left no room for a love life.

He laughed again as she did, stirring his saucepan happily. "Oh I dont think so. I have wonderful taste in women, no reason at all to worry." But he pretended to think about her second statement, then admitted. "You might be right about that though. It would explain quite a few wonderful first dates that had no sequel." He said with a small chuckle, for a moment lost in thought. "But she doesnt have to worry much now. I dont have much time for dating anymore." He brightened again, his hands still moving as if independent of his mouth.

"Quite a few first dates?" Scarlett laughed, "Popular with the ladies are you?" She teased. She was having a great time hanging out in the kitchen, even more fun than drawing in the gardens. Cerulean was so easy to talk to, not one bit of their conversation felt forced, it just flowed like they had been friends for a while.

"All work and no play huh? I used to be like that, gymnastics was my life for a while," she told him with a sigh. "I miss it sometimes but I like that I have more time to do the things I want, like my art or spending time with friends. Though I guess things are a little different since I'm here." Scarlett wasn't about to let that get her down, for her the good far outweighed the bad. Sure she missed a few things back home but she was already growing to love this place. "As long as you're happy in the kitchen all the time I think it's great, but you should remember to take time for yourself too." She smiled at him not meaning it as a lecture just a friendly reminder that his wants were important too.

She giggled, "How can you pay attention to me and still cook so effortlessly?"

"I would not say I have a reputation, but I do enjoy romance, and making a lady feel special." He said with a laugh, actually blushing slightly. He added a few more sprinkles of sugar to the saucepan, then set it aside to cool slightly. He checked the cakes, but they were still a few minutes away from being done. Cerulean looked at her closely as she spoke, thinking deeply.

"Gymnastics is.. like acrobatics?" He asked. He had heard the word a few times before, but acrobatics was the common word used in their world. The shifter pulled even more ingredients toward himself, spending a few moments organizing the, while he mentally counted down to when the cakes would be ready. He turned and pulled the oven open again, carefully checking his creations. Deciding they were good, he pulled them out carefully using towels to shield his hands. "I am very happy in the kitchen, but you are right. Everyone needs time to care for themselves." He agreed, placing the cakes away from the hot stove and oven to cool before returning to making the frosting.

Cerulean smiled at her easily, shaking his head a little. "Dont be too impressed. It is mostly because I know the recipe so well. The cake batter is my mother's recipe. When I was young, I added to it with the filling and a new frosting. These cakes were my mother's favorite; Ive made them countless times." He admitted, smiling fondly as he recalled his late mom.

Jack stretched as woke up, his clothes and hair all covered in hay, even some stuck on his cheek. He fluffed out his hair, rubbed iff the hay from his cheek, then patted himself down, dislodging and hay on him. He looked around, seeing that Lucas was still sleeping, and tiptoe out to the courtyard to not disturb him. If he was gonna stay here, he might as well get to know the area. He began to walk around to see what he could find.

Exhaling deeply in vexation as he shifted his attention toward the dragon emblem set on her desk, Kael began to furiously drum his fingers against the armrests of his chair and pursed his lips together. Great! If it wasn't bad enough that his brother [and quite possibly other familiar figures] was conspiring against he and the Queen, they also had to figure out how to survive being pursued by an unknown enemy; that is, if no one else got to them first. It was hard to imagine that just a few days ago, he was living a pretty average life, ya know...as average of a life that a bastard child of the Elven King could live. And now, it seemed like nearly anyone and everyone was out to get him --them. What he didn't understand was: why me? As for the Queen, it was pretty easy to put the pieces together [even without having stumbled upon that savior of a letter]. But for them to continue to hound him. even after he had already done what they were so keen on avoiding, was futile.

In all honesty, Michaelis never was one to fear death, and that may have been due to the fact that he didn't exactly have much to live for, but he'd be damned if he was going to let his brother's plans fall into play with no issue. Straightening himself out with newfound resolve, Kael reached out for the stud and rolled it between his fingers.
"Not a trace of information from the library? What a way to fold." He muttered under his breath before finally looking up to meet Kalora's contemplative gaze. Rumors were nothing but misconstrued gossip, and with problems sprouting from one corner then another in less than a days time, they didn't exactly have the luxury to rely on hearsay collected by Whisper's drunken plebeians and travelers. "If that's how you want to go about it, then by all means, do so. But if you could convince the Queen to open the marina for just one night, I could probably get into contact with someone from back home." He began with a slow roll-off-the-tongue elucidation to steer clear of giving off a dubious tone.

Having drifted into the castle out of the blue with a ridiculously singular anecdote as to why he was there could put anyone off, but adding a demand for the port to be opened for one night was a bit
overkill...and suspicious. No matter how well they knew one another, and he understood that. The last thing he wanted was to accidentally trip over his words and set her off; the Queen's safety being her main concern and all [something he still has yet to comprehend the reason for]. But there really was no other way -no other efficient way- to get the information needed and to get any aid he could possibly round up. After all, there was bound to be another issue with the Dragon Kingdom and Cyprus in the near future; he needed to know that he still had the support of his friends and family if need be. Aside from that, he wanted to make sure everything was well and good in his absence. He feared Cyprus might've gotten into contact with the Dalka supporters, but he could only hope for the best at this point. "I highly doubt my father has any knowledge of this, and I intend to keep it that way --at least, for now. That being said, I have a mate back in the mainland -whom I trust with my life. If I can get in touch with him, I'm sure he could get some sort of information from the scriveners back home to us. Yes, it may be a bit of a task, but it's better than just sitting around and analysing gossip."

"There might be information there," Kalora said without turning to look at Kael. "Just old stuff. Nothing that would point us to their involvement in the recent affairs." She walked over to a bookshelf in a far corner of the room and started rummaging through the journals and scrolls. Her eyes quickly scanned the titles and the occasional few lines as she picked a book from th shelves before putting it back in place. She half turned to him as he mentioned opening the marina for one night.

"Too suspicious," she answered. "We don't know what kind of ships might be waiting just beyond our visible coastline. And though we are good friends, I am quite convinced I wouldn't be able to convince the Queen to do so. I will try, but I cannot guarantee anything. But certainly there must be other ways to contact that... mate of yours." Kalora hesitated a moment. She wasn't quite sure what to think of Kael knowing somebody who might be able to provide them with information they could not find. Sure, she had plenty of similar contacts herself, but as far as she knew, Kael was in no way in a similar position as she was, so in this case the thought was a tad unsettling to her.
