Jace was in the middle of chewing on another bite of cupcake when Raven finished talking, so he couldn't immediately add on to her trailing off. It was a bit weird to him, the idea that someone would stand Raven up. Weirder even than the idea of her just not having anyone to date. Sure all the compliments were just for fun, but he couldn't see any reason to ditch the girl at homecoming.

"Hm." Once his mouth was clear, he opened it to say something in response. "We've got something to do, if you're up for it." He picked up where she left off, setting down the unfinished cupcake down on the table. Next to hers. "I think I could take a shot at learning how to dance. 'Course I'll probably never use what you teach me..." Jace paused for a moment, letting out a short laugh. He moved as he talked, taking a couple steps towards the dance floor before stopping to offer his gloved hand. "...But it might be fun to learn. Beats just standing around, anyways." There was an eagerness about him, coloring that ever present crooked smile. An expression that hadn't ever really gone away since he started talking to Raven.

Admittedly it wasn't the best way homecoming could be going. Jace didn't need a date, but he'd much rather have it be Ashton teaching him how to dance. Still it was going better than expected. He had juice, he had cupcakes, and Raven was making for a fun conversation partner.

He let out a small laugh. "And yet I'm still here. Yeah, ok you made a few mistakes, but so did I. I could have noticed the guy in the back. I could have left that gun. I could have been stronger but, at the end of the day. I'm still here with my arms wrapped around you... And I wouldn't have it any other way." He said holding her tight. Truth be told, Ryan had liked the girl. She had taken a bit of his heart with her, where ever she went. "So let's not dwell on the past mistakes. Let's look to the future of a partnership that will be benificial to both you and I." He said putting his head on hers. "So, let's have our fun." He said with a devilish smile on his face.

Raven

Raven liked this guy, and to be honest.. not
many guys in this school were worth her time. She raised a curious brow, waiting to see what his idea would be. Watching as he set the cupcake down. “If I’m up for it?” She said teasingly, unsure of what he was suggesting. It was a surprise to her when he brought up dancing, but a welcome one.

Usually guys she talked to weren’t as.. nice? Raven wasn’t sure. But he seemed like a.. good person. She laughed softly as he held his hand out. Furrowing her brows for a split second at the glove, She decided not to bring it up. She might’ve no, would’ve. Any other time. But tonight she didn’t want to pry enough where it might ruin the fun banter between them.

“I could teach you many things, cupcake.” She gave a fake disappointed sigh. Taking his hand and stepping towards him. “But I’ll settle for dancing.” Raven gave a genuine smile.

Pulling him closer to the dance floor. Waiting a few moments in slience as she heard the music behind them. “Okay, first off..I lied.” She chuckled a bit before continuing. “I don’t really know how to dance. I..just do it.” Granted Raven danced. She did. Although.. she was known as more of a sexy dancer at times but at the moment she wasn’t interested in doing so, maybe.. Raven just wanted a friend. “Okay, so that sounds super ego-y. But I’m serious, you just..” she paused trying to find the right words before laughing.

“You’ve gotta dance like nobody’s watching.”

Many things. Raven got a laugh out of him as she took his hand. Jace was grinning while she brought him towards the dance floor, his bright blue eyes giving her an expectant look. A look that turned to surprise, then to amusement when the girl admitted to her lie. "Heyyy!" He quickly put on a fake protest, feigning annoyance with a rakish smile on his face. "D'you lie about that to every guy you dance with?" It wasn't really a question. Jace didn't mind, although he was secretly a little disappointed.

Nevertheless, his foot was already tapping to the beat of the music. It wasn't as if he disliked the idea of dancing for a bit. "So how d'you go about that?" He asked, tilting his head slightly. Again he didn't really care about the answer. Jace wasn't a stranger to dancing, he just didn't do it very often or for very long. Really he was just trying to get Raven to start dancing first. She did say she was going to teach him, after all. "Best way to teach is by example, from what I've heard."

Raven chuckled at his reaction, putting her hands up in defense. “I don’t lie to every guy, you’re special.” Using his own words against him. Smiling when he continued. “I dance alone all the time at home, pretending nobody’s looking gives all the confidence you need.” tilting her head mimicking his own actions.

When he told her to lead by example. She nodded understandably, chuckling. He just needed a little push, so why not make him more comfortable? she let go of his hand, creating distance between them. Before she slowly swayed her hips getting into the beat of the music.

Soon moving her arms and shoulders to match. It wasn’t supposed to look sexy, but if it did.. well no-one should take it personally. It was just Raven’s nature. Lifting her hands to snap her fingers, subconsciously sticking her tongue out from the smallest corner of her lip.

Raven was just trying to break his shell. Making her way closer to him with an over-dramatically putting a hand over her heart while singing the lyrics, to whatever song she thought she was positive she didn’t know.

Guess that was another lie. It didn’t matter to her if he thought she was hot, or a complete nerd. She was.. just having fun. And it’d been awhile since Raven actually enjoyed herself without being expected to be anything else. “See. Nobody but us.” Giving a small shrug.

Elizabeth

She sighed with relief at him giving her a small smile as she took the (arguably) stale chocolate. Seeing him drop the stuff he was holding as well as the tie, the girl listened to him speak. She agreed with him. This wasn't really for him, at least at that moment. She walked alongside him as they made it out of the more crowded room and into the hallway.
"It's Elizabeth.. uhm... I have never been to one as well, to be honest." She was not fond of going to these types of parties herself. She wasn't a social butterfly and would rather prefer staying by a close group of her friends... who were still in Portland.

After he finished the cupcake, he tossed out the paper and wiped the stickiness off on his pants as best he could. "Dance? Yeah, sure. Like I'm not great but I can tap my foot." That wasn't even a lie -- all Mason really did was tap his foot and kind of bob awkwardly. Most of the time, he held out on dancing until a slow song came on. Now slow dancing was something he could do, and was basically the only reason he ever came to these stupid dances.

He took his now not sticky hand and grabbed June's hand, pulling her towards the dance floor and into the throng of dancing high schoolers. Mason also hated dancing on the outside -- people didn't watch you when they were busy dancing, but he didn't like being judged by those who just sat on the sidelines and stared in. "Alright, June. Show me your moves."

Jace

Just the act of Nova replacing his beanie reminded him of why he adored her so much. Or... maybe loved? It was a strong word, and not one that he wanted to use this early in their relationship, but Jace was definitely starting to feel like he loved her. With his beanie replaced atop his head (even if it wasn't very dance-worthy), Jace felt a lot more comfortable and more confident about this whole dance thing. "I'm so happy to be here with you." He said, smiling down at her as he did so.

His eyes then trailed around, from the cupcakes to dancing, to the people milling around who weren't dancing. "Hey, Alaska and Drake are over there. Do you want to say hi?" Okay, so Alaska scared the heck out of Jace, and Drake was... well, he wasn't someone Jace liked to associate with, but they were Nova's friends, and he was glad that she had people at the school who cared so much about her.

Nova
The sweetness just dropped off of Jace’s words as Nova looked up into his blue eyes, her heart melting just a little at how loved she felt by the boy. Well, maybe not loved. Jumping to that kind of conclusion was dangerous and not something that had ever gone well for her before so maybe she just felt... heavily admired. Sure, heavily admired worked. Shaking the thoughts from her head, she too took a moment to look around at the scene. Everyone seemed happy, dancing about as if there weren’t major feuds and fights between the lot. It was almost weird to Nova, how everyone could put aside their differences just to put on pretty dresses and sneak alcohol onto campus. But hey, whatever worked.

Looking towards where her boyfriend had been pointing, and without a word, a bright smile covered Nova’s lips. She immediately pulled Jace behind her as she made her way to her friends, a flash of yellow surging through the crowd before the brunette threw her arms around both Alaska and Drake, hugging them tight. “You look fantastic!!” Her voice was soft but still excited, a wave of serenity falling over her. The hazel eyed girl stepped back from her two besties to return to Jace’s side then, holding his hand with her right hand while her left looped around his arm, giving his bicep a slight squeeze. “You seriously both look incredible,” She said once more, looking between her friends and her boyfriend, in utter shock that she had these people in her life.

Stu

The mention of girls had Stu blushing like a tomato. The blonde boy shrugged slightly, scratching the tip of his nose uncomfortably, and then went going back to what he was doing: picking the burnt bacon bits out of his carbonara.

After their meal, Stu promptly assumed his position at the keyboard, stretching his thin arms and cracking his knuckles. Elise and his dad stood behind him eagerly awaiting his performance. Like a pilot performing final checks before take off, Stu went over what Jace taught him about the correct posture: Back straight. Hands curved. Shoulders relaxed. Deep breaths.

Finally, he brought his fingers to hover over the keys, and gently pressed them. Shit. That was the wrong chord, wasn’t it? He quickly took his hands off the keyboard. He pretended to busy himself with the volume controls and all that. ‘I. . . I think I’ll start over.’

Now his hands were shaking, as though they had a mind of their own. He’d played Fur Elise a hundred times before. He could play that tune with his eyes shut -- hell, it was probably the only song he knew! Then why had he suddenly forgotten it?

Stu felt the pressure of Elise’s gaze over his shoulders. His heartbeats quickened and sweat ran down his temples. It was clear Stu had no experience playing music in front of an audience. The boy did give it another good old crack though. This time he managed to get through a few bars, before disaster struck. He painfully kept on going all the way through to the end, though. . . in the wrong key.

When he finished there was an eerie silence and a great sense of relief around the room. ‘I’m not very good,’ he said, turning to Elise. But it’s the thought that counts, right?

"Before I went to this school I wasn't allowed to go the parties", he awkwardly chuckled. "I was kind of sheltered for most of my life so interacting with others is still new to me". As the finally exited the building a breeze washed over him and he finally realized how hot it was inside. A small bench was placed right at the bottom of the steps. He though about life in his private school where everything was strict and no was allowed creative freedom. It had been months and still he wasn't used to wondering the halls, talking to students the other students and all of the parties.

The noise that Stu made from the keyboard started out... alright, but ended up being something that Elise was struggling not to wince listening to, or to keep herself from covering her ears from the horrid sound. As much as she thought Stu was a very nice kid, he wasn't very talented at this whole keyboard thing, and she worried about how their production of Grease would suffer. Chances were if the rest of the musicians were this bad, it would be the worst rendition ever.

"That was lovely, Stu." It was not, but Elise was good at the whole lying thing. How else would she have gotten through years of encouraging young adults to continue their classes in the various arts classes? "You really did justice to that song. You're going to knock it dead at the musical." Okay, maybe she was being a bit too supportive.

"So Stu, it's Friday night. Why aren't you out with your friends causing havoc or... whatever it is the kids do these days." Elise asked. "I'm sure the last thing a young boy wants to do is spend Friday night with his father and his girlfriend." Was it appropriate to call her Martin's girlfriend in front of Stu? She had no idea. Elise was horrible with kids.

Ash
tumblr_inline_p8anemZby91urfelz_540.gif

One thing that Ash was good at thanks to the years of her mother shoving performing down her throat (Ash had even entered a couple beauty pageants as a young child, which she had hated) meant that she wasn't nervous in front of a crowd, and she could actually dance and make it look kind of good. "Don't worry, I'll tone it down so I don't make you look totally ridiculous." She joked as she followed after him onto the dance floor. For the first time tonight, thoughts of Ryder faded... for the most part.

She glanced around the dance floor, noticing Raven dancing with... Jace, right? Yeah. The Other Jace. She smiled over at them, but was sure they didn't notice her as she looked back around, her eyes trailing over Mason and June, and then finally she looked back up at Mads. "Wow, you're absolutely amazing." She teased as she started to dance, swaying her hips and body to the music.

Dazzle Dazzle

Raven's use of his own words earned another chuckle from Jace. He was hoping she'd give that response.
Jace didn't really have much of a confidence issue when it came to dancing. It wasn't terribly unusual for him to do things he thought were fun regardless of who was watching, sometimes even because people were watching. Sometimes it was amusing to know that someone thought he was ridiculous. He listened to Raven while she stressed the importance of ignoring everyone else though, wondering for a moment if maybe he should try dancing alone sometime. When no one was around. Maybe it would be a fun way to pass the time.

However it's when the girl started dancing that he really started paying attention. It wasn't hard to ignore everyone else with Raven dancing in front of him. Swaying as she was to the beat of the music, Jace couldn't help but notice that she was actually kind of gorgeous. Even if she wasn't trying to be. Of course he wasn't just going to stand there and watch. Gradually he let himself start his own sway, flowing to the smooth tune of the song, before loosening up his shoulders to move in time with hers. He even got his feet involved, putting on some almost decent steps to the beat of the music. Before long he was trying to move in sync with Raven, meeting her playful expression with an amused grin. Now he was having fun.

So much fun, in fact, that he failed to notice when Ashton smiled in their direction. At the moment it was just him, Raven, and the sweet melody that filled the air around them. He didn't really want to focus on anything else, enjoying the movement and the feeling of his heart pounding in his chest.

June
June smiled as he guided her to the dance floor. She had to admit she was nervous about dancing too, not sure if people were watching. She looked around the room and saw Raven with this guy she hadn’t really seen before. They were chatting and dancing. She wasn’t sure how she felt about it, but she wasn’t exactly happy about it.

However, she moved her eyes to Mason and found her shoulders relaxing once more. “My moves huh?” She said a little playfully as she grabbed both of his hands. “We can both dance you know.” She swung his arms and twirled once before finding his hands again. “As long as you’re smiling and having fun, you become the best dancer.” She said with a shrug. “That’s what I believe anyways.” She laughed a little and moved in a bit more closer.

He gave a small light laugh. "Don't you worry, it only gets better." He moon walked, or at least you could possibly consider it a moon walk. It wasn't very smooth. Finishing it off with a robot arm. “Be honest.” He smirked. “How bad do I suck” His tone was sarcastic, so he obviously knew he wasn’t any good. But you could tell he was having fun with the smile at his lips. He stopped just dancing for amusement and began to just sway with the beat of the music, being a few seconds off, but not too far behind.

Ryder

Ryder was still on a high from his date with Ash and their win on the football field earlier. Their first date had gone well, even with his annoying sister crashing it, and he couldn't wait to see her face when he surprised her at homecoming. Chase had helped him pick out a nice dress shirt and new tie to wear for tonight that would match Ash's blue dress. He had yet to see it, but he was sure she looked gorgeous. She always did.

He'd taken a little longer than his siblings to get ready since he had to shower after the game, so he drove separate and sent a text to Alaska to let her know he was ready for Operation Surprise Ash. The gym had several different entrances so he waited by the back door until it suddenly swung open, revealing Alaska with a wide grin plastered onto her face.

"Have I ever told you that you're the best twin ever?" Ryder grinned, giving her hair a quick ruffle as the walked towards the massive crowd of high schoolers packed into the room. The music was loud and it was pretty dark, hopefully no teachers would notice that he was here while he was supposed to be suspended.

"I think you should tell me more." Alaska teased before returning to her friends, leaving him to go find his date. He walked around for a few minutes before he spotted a familiar blonde head, a smile overtaking his lips as he walked towards her. There was an unfamiliar blonde guy talking to her, and he couldn't help but wonder if this was the mysterious basketball coach.

"Surprise." He announced, wrapping an arm around Ash protectively and planting a kiss on the side of her head as he stared down the overly friendly guy talking to her.

Alaska

Alaska blushed at both Drake and Carter's compliments, smiling brightly as she reveled in the knowledge that she had three great friends to spend homecoming with. It was a little surprising how daring Carter was, but she wasn't going to say no to a good time. Homecoming was really only fun if you were intoxicated, not that she'd ever tell Drake that.

"Honestly, I don't know how everyone else here can handle not looking as good as us." The brunette joked, throwing a wink in Carter's direction. While it was only her second homecoming, it was already far better than last year's. She'd gone with senior boy who'd been a complete jerk, she ditched him halfway through the night to go get drunk at some random after party.

"So, which after party are you going to?" She asked her friends, curious as to which crowd they were sticking with.

Mads
Austin-ButlerHomecoming.gif
His smile didn't waiver when the guy came up behind Ash 'this must be the guy who tossed some dude into the table'. He thought to himself before he stopped dancing and threw his hand out. "You must be Ryder, Ash has told me a lot about you!" Ash hadn't told him much about Ryder, just that he wasn't going to be around for the dance. And he had heard around school about the fight in the cafeteria that had occurred on his first day, that he just so happened to miss when hiding in the gym. He held his hand out for a handshake that he hoped would be returned. "I'm Madison, my sister and I just started school here on Monday." He smiled genuinely. He knew, at least to some extent that Ash had feelings for this guy, and he wasn't going to be one to try and cause issues for her. She acted like she had a lot going on, even if he didn't personally know it. "So uh... Who's after party is the one I should be at?" He cleared his throat, he felt more awkward than he let on. He didn't want to be the next one tossed into a table.

Carter
NkpQ.gif
Carter laughed at the jokes? Compliments? If he wasn't joking those were some really sad attempts at a complement.
"I'll give you an A for effort, but I think you need to work on your game a bit there bud." She smiled looking over at Alaska, "They can't, that's why they're ignoring us while we stand in the corner." She gave a half hearted laugh that got caught in her throat when she saw Mason come in with June hand in hand. Narrowing her eyes at them, well mostly June, for a moment before drawing her attention back to the group. She noticed the dumbass had taken off his brace, despite the fact he wasn't supposed to yet. She felt like she had given June the chance to come clean herself, maybe she had, maybe Mason didn't care. But every part of her was screaming that she needed to tell him, even if it was only for her own sake.
"I'm good for wherever, as long as it isn't a dud" She said, responding to Alaska but still stuck in her own head, obviously distracted. "Where are you guys planning?" She started to pull at her clutch's buckle. "Alaska, mind coming to the bathroom with me... I have to... Uh... Powder my nose?" Really Carter just wanted a drink, and she knew that drinking in front of Drake was the wrong move. "Nova... Right? You can come too if you want" Carter started to wander off before anyone responded. She was fighting with herself internally, 'I mean, he looks happy for the first time in a long time... This could ruin that... But I can't not tell him.. He deserves to know.. Right?' She wouldn't ever say any of this out loud to anyone. No one understood the relationship her and Mason had. He was tough to get along with, but so was she and that didn't stop them from being friends.

Raven raised her eyebrows in surprise when he actually matched her own movements with the beat of the music. "Oh. C'mon, that's not fair. You lied!" She shook her head, still dancing along side him. "You know how to dance. I didn't have to attempt to teach you anything." Raven teased. Barely noticing Ash, but caught her eye when she smiled over at the two of them. Tilting her head and narrowing her eyes, with an approving nod slightly towards her, Ash looked nice. But most importantly, she looked like she was owning it. Good for her.

Her eyes twinkled with amusement as the song came to an end. And another started up but she didn't pay any attention to the music, focusing on the boy in front of her. "But i am glad that you took me up on the offer." Grinning all the while. Shrugging slightly, "you make a good dance partner, cupcake." Yes, Raven knew he had a name. That didn't matter, she uses nicknames for people she likes, cupcake is the way it'll stay.. unless he pisses her off.

But somehow Raven didn't think that'd be a problem with him anytime soon. Moving away from the dance floor, standing on the sidelines. Taking a breather from all the dancing and now that they were out of their own little dance bubble. Her gaze roamed around the dance floor and she spotted June, of course she was dancing with Mason. She sighed quietly. Raven didn't get why she was basically pining over her, it was so stupid. Turning her head slightly to look at Jace who seemed to be staring at Ash, she let out a breathy chuckle and nodded understandably.

"So..do you have a thing for a certain cheerleader?" Raven asked with raise of her brow.

He couldn't agree with her statement, but he appreciated the sweet innocence of the idea. For Mason, appearance to others had always been more important, so it wasn't as easy as just smiling and calling it good. One slip up and he could become like Minuteman -- with a horrible nickname that ruined his reputation... kind of. And one thing Mason couldn't stand the idea of was losing his fragile reputation. His bad boy, good family, perfect football captain idea that people tended to see. It was all he had anymore.

"I will do a small sashay, and that is it." Mason announced, and then proceeded to move his hips in an awkward not very sashaying fashion, but hey, it was trying to impress June and well... if she wanted to dance, then god damn it, he would. Even if it killed him. Which it probably would. Still, a faint smile crossed his lips as she took his hands before twirling, and then finding them again. "I never took you for a dancer, but damn. You've got that twirl down." He said, and then let go of her hand, and used his other hand to twirl her, and then he caught her with his other hand on her hip before moving his other hand to her hip, too. "See all I know how to do is slow dancing. This fast paced stuff is just too much. I'm not a fast moving guy."

She'd been having a good time with Madison, dancing to the music and just having fun -- more fun than she had originally planned on having. And then, out of nowhere, came Ryder, and Ash's eyes did indeed light up in surprise. "Ryder!" She said, her voice a surprised squeak as a blush crept across her face when he kissed her. "I thought you were suspended and not allowed in? How did you get in here?" Ash asked, peeking through the crowd to see if any teachers had noticed but... they all seemed to be too caught up in their own conversations to even keep an eye on the many teenagers.

Shrugging, Ash leaned into Ryder's side, wrapping her arms around him in a tight squeeze before she looked back at Madison and remembered that they had been hanging out. Right. She was a little worried that Ryder might also throw this guy on a table, so she kept her arms around him to try and stop him. Maybe. Yeah. Of course she could do that.

"This is the guy who taught me basketball so I could kick your butt at the carnival." Ash said, smirking up at Ryder before looking back at Mads. Was it just her, or did he seem slightly uncomfortable? ... Nah, it was probably just her imagination. "Bryan is throwing a party. Like, he's a total dick, but he throws good parties."

Drake threw a couple finger guns in Carter's direction. "Any time, girl. Although I'm sure you have plenty of people telling you that you're hot." There was no denying that Carter was hot, although there wasn't a lot of time to dwell on it as Nova came out of nowhere, throwing her arms around both him and Alaska.

"Nova! Are you managing to have a good time, or is this ol' stick in the mud complaining about the kids and their horribly short dresses too much?" Drake asked. Yes, he was teasing, but it was all too real. Jace shot him a dirty look as he said it, even though yes, he was indeed judging the dresses on a few of the girls and was thankful that Nova wasn't one of those.

"Bryan's party. Not only is he fine as hell, but he throws pretty good parties." Drake loved admiring the hot dudes. This was probably the biggest reason he tended to get along with the ladies better -- he loved talking about the good looking guys, although he also loved talking about hot women and-- ... Lord, his brain was such a mess.

When Carter started inviting all of the girls to the bathroom for some odd reason, Drake feigned pretending to be offended. "Oh my, Jace! Carter is stealing both of our dates! We'll have to stay here and have guy time!" He said, throwing a hand across his forehead dramatically before he shrugged away from Nova's arm and moved over to stand next to Jace. He rose up on his tippy toes and threw an arm around the senior's shoulders. "Guy time is when dudes hang out."

"I know what guy time is." Jace mumbled. He was uncomfortable, and his posture was now more slouched. His blonde hair fell in front of his eyes and even his beanie seemed to reflect his sour attitude as it started slouching off his head a bit.

"Well good because that's what's going to happen. The ladies are going to leave and I'll get you all to myself." Drake joked, and poked a finger into Jace's stomach, which earned a smack on the hand from Jace.

Nova
A small frown spread over the brunette’s lips as Drake poked some fun at her boyfriend. Sure, Jace wasn’t this bad boy hot rod who was looking for trouble and drinks, but it wasn’t hard for Nova to admit that she kind of loved how low key and well... maybe a little boring her relationship was. There was so expectation to be up for getting drunk or sneaking into amusement parks, in fact she was pretty sure the only thing she expected from Jace was his attention. God, she loves his attention. Butterflies erupted and a blush flooded her cheeks anytime the boy called her pretty, or got wide eyed when she wore his clothes. And honestly, what could be better than that. So, as Drake continued to lightly harass a miserable looking Jace, she gave the black haired boy a small punch in the arm. “You leave my boy alone,” She pouted, before taking a step forward and pressing a soft kiss to the blonde’s lips. Yep, right in front of Drake, knowing he would probably make a comment. But hey, that’s why she loved her friend. He was always light with Nova, joking and able to take a joke. What a guy.

Before she could hear whatever sly remark was to come, Nova was suddenly being pulled to the bathroom by Alaska, trailing a pretty red head who had the posture of a Queen. It was intimidating, being seen with these two beautiful girls, but Nova did her best to stand up straight and look...decent.the brunette sighed lightly, shooting a ‘help me’ glance back at her boyfriend. The dance was fun, yeah but she couldn’t help but wish she was in Jace’s room, on his couch, in his t-shirt and falling asleep to the sound of him playing guitar.

Jace's grin widened when she called him out on his lie. In all fairness, he hadn't lied about knowing how to dance. He just conveniently'forgot' to mention that mildly important point. The boy didn't bother bringing that up, though. Better to keep quiet and talk with his dancing until the song was done.

He was still pumped full of energy when the next song began, ready to start dancing again on a moment's notice. It seemed Raven was done though, so he kept his restlessness tied down in his tapping foot. Only a little disappointed that she didn't want to keep going. "How could I turn it down?" Jace replied to her with a laugh, following his partner back to the sidelines with a bright expression still on his face. That had probably been some of the most fun he'd ever gotten out of a dance. His heart was even still pounding even though he wasn't moving anymore.

On the dance floor it had just been him and Raven. The way she danced... She'd made his heart start pounding long before it should've, made it so easy to forget they were in a room of people. He hadn't wanted to see anyone else. Now that they were still though, now that they were just resting on the edge of the dance floor, Jace's eyes started wandering. As they always did when he wasn't involved in anything. It was only inevitable then that his piercing blue gaze would end up falling on her. Raven had been beautiful on the dance floor, but Ashton was...

Perfect.

Jace found himself with an absence of breath for a couple moments as he watched the cheerleader dance, swaying her hips to the music in the background. Noticing that she was still with that new guy, he felt an oddly unpleasant feeling take root in his chest, making his bright smile waver a little bit. It was an unfamiliar sensation, one that he wasn't sure he liked.

There wasn't too much time to dwell on it, though, as Raven soon interrupted his thoughts. Swiftly his focus snapped back to the girl next to him, as if he'd been caught doing something unsavory, as a light pink intruded on his pale cheeks. For a moment he considered trying to lie. Jace decided against it though, that would've been an uphill battle. Kind of pointless really. Instead he sighed, letting his smile drop away as he looked back to Ashton. "I don't know what I have..." He reluctantly answered, frowning slightly as Ryder emerged from the crowd to kiss her. Wasn't he supposed to be suspended? Normally Jace would've been amused by someone sneaking in like that, but for whatever reason he was less than thrilled to see the football player.

Raven grinned when she saw the blush on his cheeks, she shook her head eying him for a long moment. Waiting for him to actually give her an answer. Nodding when he told her, he didn't know what he had, but the answer was simple. Raven knew that feeling all too well. "You don't have her." Her grin faded when she saw Ryder come up to Ash, Turning to Jace with a sympathetic look, her gaze turning towards June once again. Watching as she danced and laughed with Mason. Sadly.. she also knew that feeling all too well. "We all can't have what we want." Staring ahead at the party-goers.

Why did everything have to be so complicated. When was the last time everything was just.. easy? Raven shouldn't ask herself that question, nothing had been easy for her. It was always a challenge to get what she wants. But the more she thought about it, the more she realized June wasn't a challenge. She was just her, and honestly... that sucked. What even was that conversation they had today on the ferris wheel, why did they talk about love? was it even a thing she could possibly ever feel? No, definitely not. Raven couldn't love anyone. Maybe that's why she stood single for so long. Not having a real relationship protected her, right? no one's leaving if you don't let them stay.

All the fun they'd had together just disappeared simply like that. They were just two people who just distracted each-other long enough to not pay attention to what they wanted, or what they... craved. So to say. Did it matter even? What she felt or what he felt? Was Ash even aware of him? Did June really care about the kiss? There was so many questions that neither of them will probably ever get an answer to, or the time of day to actually ask them. Why spend homecoming pining over the people they couldn't have, or the people who wanted nothing to do with them? Any sane person that wasn't in their position would probably just say, just don't care. Conflicted feelings or not, you can't just not care. "Okay, so i've thought about it." Raven nodded.

"Homecoming sucks."

Stu

Stu felt kind of bad that he ruined the song. He knew how much this meant for Dad, and that was probably why he felt so nervous playing it. Elise was nice enough to compliment his effort though. Yeah, he really was going to knock it dead at the musical, wasn’t he?

‘Actually, that’s not such a bad idea,’ Martin chimed in, ‘Stu, aren’t your friends at a homecoming party tonight? You’re missing out on all the fun.’

‘It’s already getting kind of late, though, Dad,’ he said, glancing at the clock on the wall, then at his dad and his ‘girlfriend’. Boy, that felt weird. Old people having girlfriends was weird.

‘Nonsense. We could have you dropped off within the half hour,’ Martin said, winking at Elise. He thought the plan was perfect, actually. They’d be rid of Stu for a few hours and they could grab a drink, have a romantic night out, make up for that disaster of a meal. Who knows, they might even go see a movie together, share popcorn and hold hands. ‘I’m sure you’ll have lots of fun with all your friends. It is Friday night, after all.’

Stu got the message. He knew Dad wanted him gone and, even though he didn’t want to go to homecoming at all, he quickly obliged. ‘OK, I’ll go get changed.’ He went into his room and changed into his suit and put on his famous tie and doused himself in a generous amount of Dad’s expensive cologne. The last thing he wanted was to go to homecoming smelling like smoked bacon.

They pulled up in front of the party and Stu slipped gloomily out of the car. ‘Hey, Stu,’ Dad called him to his window. The boy circled round to see him. ‘You look stunning,’ Dad told him, and then gave a small sigh. ‘Here, come closer.' Stu stepped closer to the window and Dad reached to fix his tie. 'Take good care of yourself, OK?’

Neck Tie nodded. ‘I will, Dad, don’t worry,’ he said. A little smile graced his face, and then he turned those dimples at Elise who was sitting next to Dad. ‘Bye, Elise. It was really good to see you,’ he said, ‘I’m sorry about dinner and for messing up the song.’ Then Dad watched the boy pace up the steps by himself, and his heart sank at the thought of leaving his son at another party. The memory of that cold hospital room was forever etched in his mind.

When Neck Tie got there the music was blaring and pretty much everyone was shuffling on the dance floor. He squinted at the swirl of the colourful disco lights overhead and suddenly felt kind of estranged. He was there alone without a girl and the last party he attended nearly killed him. He started looking around for some familiar faces, hoping to find Jace in the crowd though suddenly realising that his best friend would be with Nova, and that they didn't need a dorky freshman ruining their night. So he ended up backing into a wall and staying there, playing Space Invaders on his phone and trying to beat his own high score.

"Oh.. so you were not allowed? How come?" The girl walked alongside the guy, soon seeing a small bench on the bottom of the steps. She decided to take a seat on it.
Rory was so far really interesting, and she was not that afraid of him, despite his tired and worn out appearance. She pat the space next to her, encouraging him to sit by her

Raven's words caused that feeling in his chest to turn into an ache. A burning feeling that made the sight of her suddenly painful. Did she really have to put it like that? Not wanting to watch Ashton and her boyfriend anymore, he focused his gaze elsewhere, his brow furrowed in slight frustration while he tried to distract himself from his own obnoxious pining. There was nothing else he wanted to look at though. No one else he wanted to watch.

Eventually he just closed his eyes, with nothing but the music to influence his thoughts. It kind of annoyed him that Raven had to force the subject of Ash. He didn't want to think about her from such a hopeless perspective. What use was there in acknowledging that he couldn't have the girl? In acknowledging that he even wanted her in the first place? That kind of thinking always messed with his mood, it was too serious.

Jace let out a heavy sigh, starting to tap his foot to the music again as he reopened his eyes to the beautifully painful sight of Ashton. It was such a waste of a decent school dance to just stand around being jealous. Such a waste of time. At some point he had to figure out how to address the things she made him feel, but not now. Right now there was good music saturating the air, an entertaining girl standing next to him, and a tragic cupcake that only wanted him to finish eating it.

"I dunno..." Jace quickly replied when Raven finally spoke again. With the music putting a spring in his step, he stepped out in front of her, turning his back to the cheerleader so he could face his partner in pine. "It's gone a lot better than I expected it to." A small, playful smile accompanied his words, defying the smoldering heartache that still plagued him. There's no way Jace was about to let a little unrequited affection put a damper on his night.

June
June smiled brightly as Mason danced. She kinda liked his sashaying, it just felt like he was trying for her. Which she enjoyed seeing. She also liked twirling, even though whenever she thought about the dress she remembered that dressing room with Raven, it twirled well. She looked down to her waist and then up at him. “Twirling isn’t that difficult, I just like how I look when I do.” She said tilting her head up in confidence a bit. “And you are hardly a slow guy. Even with crutches you’re faster than me.” She said glancing at his leg, which she was still concerned about. “That’s about all the dancing I can do. Unless you wanna go do some slow dancing privately.” She smirked a bit, learning a bit from Mason and Raven with the amount of flirting they do. She felt her heartbeat fast and her mouth stuck in a smile as she swayed with him. This night wasn’t off to a bad start.
