He nearly let it slip as to why his son was unwell. He was ashamed to say that it was alcohol poisoning. What would people think of him or of Stuart if they had heard it? What kind of a horrible parent would that make him? Stuart had never drunk before, at least not to his knowledge. He wasn’t that kind of kid, so how could Martin have ever seen it coming? At the end of the day he couldn't blame anyone else other than himself. He’d failed as a parent and he was lucky that the punishment wasn't more severe. So he had gotten away with a pretty sharp wake-up call.
‘He’s. . . been unwell, just come down with something nasty. He'll be fine but in the meantime, he’s bored out of his mind and finding his own entertainment, mostly at my expense. Though I’m sure if he’d known you were auditing, he would have made the slides ten times worse.’
Martin laughed and reached for the handshake.
‘Actually, I was told to be on the lookout for you this afternoon. . . It’s a pleasure to meet you at last.’
