Jace couldn't even voice how pleased he was to have someone to go with to this stupid bonfire. He was horrible on the whole flirtation front, obviously, and equally bad with socialization, so he would've spent his whole night awkwardly sitting on the sidelines, sipping beverages and checking his phone for when he could finally leave. Instead, he could waste away the hours hanging out with Nova. "Yeah, that sounds great." Jace agreed, scratching his head as he flipped through his closet in search of his elusive swim suit. You would think that given the whole "having a pool" thing, Jace would always know where his swim suit was, but he wasn't much of a swimmer at all. The only one who really used the pool was Ash and guests.

"I mean, I don't know about leaving partway through..." He admitted, mumbling it as he said that. "But I'm definitely going and I would love to have you there." Ah ha. There they were. Boring old gray swim suit bottoms. Jace used to have yellow, and then Ash had informed him it was stupid and forced him to purchase new ones... that memory reminded him of something though and he realized that his yellow beanie would have to stay home instead of taking a trip to the beach.

Jace almost wanted to cry.

"Anyway, do you want to meet up there or drive together?"

Okay, so maybe she should've turned the music down more. Because she could see Grace's mother glaring at her car from the door and the second Grace got in she turned it down again. Sawyer just grinned at the chiding she received.

"Okay, mom. I will revise my music tastes." She smiled warmly and and gave Grace the slyest of winks as June climbed in behind them. "Alrighty, ladies, let's get this show on the road!" Sawyer put the car in drive once both of them were secure and pulled away from the house. When they were sufficiently out off sight, Sawyer leaned across the console and gave Grace a quick peck on the cheek.

"You look good, by the way." She winked again and glanced at June over her shoulder, "You too, red. I like the hat." Sawyer turned down a few more roads until they hit their destination and came to a stop. Turning the car off, Sawyer pushed open the door and let out a whoop.

"The party has begun, my friends!"

Nova

A small grin fit into Nova's features as she finished dressing, her swim suit a bit tight on the bottom (she hadn't worn it since last summer) but the rest of her outfit comfy and cool. She had no love of tight clothes, anything that was purposely made to show off her body. It wasn't because she didn't like her body or anything, she was very content with it, she just never felt the need to wear an XXS shirt with booty shorts. Just not her style.

Snatching her phone from the bed, she walked out of her room and down the hall to her bathroom, resting the cell back onto the counter as she started to mess with her hair. "We don't have to leave, just a suggestion," She teased, parting her hair down the middle and fixing her natural loose waves. She was excited to go to the beach, she hadn't been to one in Maine and rarely went in the cold world that surrounded Seattle. But she loved the ocean, and loved bonfires back home. Her small friend group would sit around and sing songs, make s'mores, just your regular group of cliche friends. Plus, cold beach nights meant the possibility to cozy on up to Jace, which Nova was definitely going to be attempting. Finshing her fussing with her hair, Nova said a quick "I'll be there in fifteen!" before hanging up and brushing her teeth. She quickly slicked on deodorant, put on her favorite cherry blossom lotion, grabbed her purse and started towards the door. Of course, her parents stopped and questioned her, Kelbi running down the stairs as her people talked and sitting by Nova's feet. Her mom especially was fine with Nova's recent absences, but her father... wasn't so keen. He was always bothering her to bring this 'mystery boy' around, which just made the brunette chuckle. As if Jace was a mystery... very funny dad.

Breaking free from her parents, Nova practically ran to her truck, jumping in and starting for Jace's with an Alec Benjamin album pulsing through her speakers. She drove with one leg tucked under her, the other down with a foot near the pedals, one hand on the steering wheel and one holding an Arizona iced tea. This was starting to feel like home, and it reflected in everything about her. And just as 'Outrunning Karma' began to play on the radio, she pulled up in front of the blonde's mansion-like home, honking the horn once and rolling the passenger window down to watch the door for her blonde boy to come awkwardly shuffling out.

The brunette looked up at the girl who had approached her with a grin, recognizing her as the flirt from Twitter. "Do you want to?" She winked, appreciating the little bikini and shorts that hugged the dark-haired girl's curves in all the right places. Her smile widened as Drake came running up, tackling Raven in a hug. The two may have been quite different personality wise, but the sophomore was about the only real friend Alaska had made at Westbrook so far and they seemed to balance each other out.

"Nice sunglasses. I'm definitely borrowing those." She greeted, standing up from where she sat and placing her hands on her hips. "Are you hungry? We bought way too much food and we've got enough alcohol to kill a small whale."

June
June liked the ride over. Despite the two sometimes staring at each other lovingly, she liked the beat of the car as they headed to have some fun. She made a mental note to download the songs Sawyer listened to, they were amazing.

Once there, she walked out of the car towards the crowd. She smiled a little to herself as she saw more familiar faces than ever before. Things are already great. She pressed her hat on her head and looked over at the ocean, admiring it and wishing she took her camera with her. She was so happy to have it back when Georgia gave it to her once she returned. She now hesitated taking her camera too many places. However, a phone would do as her camera. She took some pictures of the sea and everyone. Then, her phone camera landed on Mason. She stopped and smiled as she took a picture then put her phone in her purse. She walked through the sand and hoped that her hair wasn’t too wild as she approached him. “Mason!” She said. “I’m honestly super surprised you’re here. With your leg and all...” She didn’t even feel nervous here. She felt so relaxed and genuinely happy.

Raven raised an eyebrow, more than ready to flirt back with the girl. She opened her mouth to reply when Drake put an arm around her shoulders.

“Yes, great sunglasses.” She agreed. Okay, so she knew Drake.. where did Raven know her from? God, it was killing her. Maybe she saw her around school? ..it took her a few moments to remember, her eyes scanning the girl until she realized. Twitter girl. “Right, food and alcohol.” Shrugging off Drake’s arm. “Or maybe just alcohol.” She put her own arm out, pointing towards no-where in particular. “Lead the way.”

Jace finally changed, and headed out of his room to wait for Nova. He paused, wondering if maybe he should approach Ash and casually ask her about this so called "date," but decided it would be best if she had no idea that he was secretly there to spy on her. Well, and get closer to Nova, but his motives were still simple: Protect baby sister. Jace was not a fighter or much for confronting, but he would certainly get in someone's face and risk breaking himself for his little sister.

While debating on whether or not to talk to Ash, he heard Nova's honk and knew he needed to leave. He had wasted his opportunity. "See you there!" Jace yelled at the top of his lungs, waiting until Ash yelled back an "Okay!" and then headed out the door, slamming the huge thing behind him as he paused, looking at Nova's truck. The old thing was still nice, he guessed, although he wasn't a vehicle person as all. Jace only new music and instruments.

"Hey, ready to party?" Jace asked as he hopped into her truck. Naturally, his hands tried to reach up to readjust his beanie, but only felt golden hair. Right. He'd left his beanie behind, and the loss was already weighing heavily on him. He frowned a bit, closing the door and buckling up before waiting for Nova to take them to the beach. Still, he felt a little lost without his beanie. It was like a comforting blanket for him, like something a child would hold to comfort them. Being without it made Jace feel alone and vulnerable.

She'd only half heard Jace as he said he was leaving. Ash was still heavily debating on exactly what to wear to this beach party. One thing about her was that she hated showing off parts of her body, and bikinis made her incredibly uncomfortable. However, Ash still owned one, and no other swim suit. It was her way of throwing a middle finger to her body shaming mother, while also trying to learn to love herself. So she slipped on said bikini, but quickly pulled a loose tank top on over it, and shorts. Well, at least she had it on if she did decide to swim. Would the water even be warm enough?

Finally, she did one final spin in front of her mirror, gave herself a nod of readiness, and then went over to give Jeffrey a good luck pat. The little ferret looked up at her with eyes that said You can do this. That was the kind of support Ash needed for this date with Ryan. She was half excited, half nervous, but figured this was a step in the right direction. Hey, if it didn't work out and there were no sparks, then no loss, and Ash would be able to move on... maybe. And if there were... well, Ash would have to wait and see where that would take her. She was half expecting Ryan to ditch her halfway through the night for someone better, someone prettier, someone with that perfect beach body. Like Raven or Alaska, or even June or Nova. Damn, why were there were so many hot girls?

She then headed out of her room and downstairs to wait for Ryan, quietly trying to talk herself up, but Ash's thoughts were constantly self-deprecating.

So far, he'd been spending the party chatting with whoever stopped by, and then staring at the hot girls in bikinis that kept floating in. His eyes were currently resting on Raven and Alaska, mainly because he was worried that one of them might sass Drake and send him spiraling downwards. That's the only reason Mason had agreed to come tonight -- he didn't want Drake to do something irrational, such as trying to drown himself or drink, or--

There were too many possibilities, and Mason was kind of hating the fact that he'd even mentioned this stupid bonfire. For one, there was fire. Two, water. Three, bitchy people.

His eyes snapped from Drake and the two girls to June, and he smiled, albeit rather weakly. "Hey, I wasn't planning on coming, but... beats staying home any day." Mason shrugged, not mentioning the fact that he was here for Drake... and, well, being away from his mother was just an added bonus. To be honest, he was surprised to find June there. "What are you here for? Figured you weren't much of the party type." Although he had seen her at Ash's. "Did Grace force you?'

Drake
tenor.gif

"Whenever you want." Drake responded, wiggling the sunglasses with one hand. They were his pride and joy, but he was always willing to share with friends, especially if it made them happy. He pushed his sunglasses up on his head, which effectively pushed back his fluffy black hair into a crazy looking, stuck up array, but Drake didn't care and was too tired to fix it.

"I'm good, but I'll just like... follow you two there. For later reference. If I get hungry. Or want to get drunk" Drake hadn't actually eaten in an entire week, except for a few things here and there that Mason forced on him, but he didn't feel hungry at all. He wondered if maybe he lost weight and for a moment, looked down at his stomach thoughtfully. Hmm... yeah, Stomach Buddy seemed flatter than usual. This was an issue, but the thought of food was enough to make him want to be sick.

Actually, even being out here was enough to make him sick, but Drake knew being around friends and what not was good for him. So he was going to attach himself to Alaska and follow her everywhere, at least until he found someone else to annoy, and hope that she didn't kick him away like an abandoned puppy.

And of course, alcohol was off the table. He was back on his medications, and trying to be good about it, but alcohol pretty much ruined any good effect that they had on him. Being sick was hard.

She was slightly disappointed that he was looking towards Raven and another girl. But at the same time, she couldn’t blame him. She stepped back and smiled to him. “Yeah, I mean, you get a sight and everything.” She said nodding to the sea then back at him. He was also a sight. She thought, almost calling back on Raven’s techniques. However she stopped herself when she heard him ask another question. “Well you’re right. I’m not the party type, but bonfires should be fun right? Grace didn’t force me this time. We both wanted to go.” She said grabbing her dress and swaying it around. “It does help that I know people. Except whoever is hosting the party I guess.” She said with a shrug. “But, more importantly, I have a suprise for you.”

She didn’t want to dance around it any longer. She grabbed his shoulders and smiled up at him as she said. “With the help of me and Grace as well as our parents. We paid off your medical bills!” Hopefully he would be happy about this. She had kept it a secret and was eternally grateful for the money she got from everyone. Only she knew why, but it made it more special to her when they were able to do it.

"Me? Party? You're funny Mr. West," Nova's mood instantly brightened as the blonde hopped into the passenger seat of her car. She'd never seen Jace in shorts... it was quite different from his usually jeans and t-shirt which she had grown used to. Nevertheless, she pushed her truck into drive and started towards the address she had plugged in, turning down the radio just a little bit. It wasn't lost on her that Jace had left his beanie behind today, which she found a little odd. She rarely if ever saw him without that sunflower color atop his head, and it almost made her... sad. "Sooo," The small brunette crooned rolling up the windows and putting the truck in cruise control. In fear of being pushy, Nova pressed her lips into a thin line and she flicked her fingers silently, mustering up the courage before asking, "May I ask where the famous yellow beanie is today?"

Of all the things Nova admired about Jace, his dedication had to be at the top of the list. Both to music, to his beanie, and with the little he had talked about his sister, he seemed pretty dedicated to her as well. It was refreshing, meeting someone so selfless, but at the same time, she wondered if she was a good enough person for the guitarist at times. Hopefully she was... and she supposed time would tell.

Grace slowed her walking pace, watching June run off to talk to Mason. She subltly walked closer to Sawyer, “You look nice too.” She smiled at her, not wanting to say it earlier to make June feel like a third-wheel. Even thought that kind if went out went out the window, when she kissed her on the cheek. But Grace wasn’t about to complain, June knew. She trusted her not to tell anyone.

“Hey, i know you don’t really like parties.” She said. She kind felt like Sawyer only agreed to go because she invited her, that’s the whole reason why they got together in the first place. Was because of an invite. Maybe she felt obligated to go.

“This don’t have to become like a regular thing, y’know. We could do things that you wanna do too.”

Ryan was home. He had been spending the past few days at home with his dad. It was probably the happiest time it Ryan's life. Seeing his dad everyday, not having to worry about waking up and him not being there. Ryan's dad however was not so lucky. He had a hard time trying to find honest work. Not a lot of people would hire a man just out of prison. But Ryan's father would never share that with his family. He didn't want them to worry. It was kinda like saying he was weak to them, and he didn' want to do that.

Ryan had talked with Ash and there best bet was to go out to a bonfire later that weekend. He slowly got ready. He had a pair of red and blue swiming trunks. He was driving his motorcycle. Ryan had that, his jacket and his helmat on. As he pulled up to Ash's house, he slowed down till he had stopped a few feet from her door.

He stopped, kicked the kick stand down and slowly walked up to her front door. He walked up to her door and rang the doorbell. He waited for her. When she came out, he whistled. She was beautiful. "You ready for a fun time at the beach." He asked holding a second helmat up. "You look absolutly amazing." He said looking her up and down.

The hockey player took both by the hand, dragging them over to the table where a massive amount of snacks were set up and her older brother was grilling hot dogs and burgers. They may have gone a little overboard at the grocery store, but it was their first party of the school year and the twins planned on getting schwasted.

"Oh by the way Raven, I loved your article on Monday. Very informative." Alaska complimented, grinning at the dark haired beauty as she poured them both a drink and clinked their red solo cups together before taking a sip. She had seen the journalist around but had never talked to her, though she was rather impressed by her writing skills. The newspaper had blown up for the first few days it was out.

"Hey Drake! Good to see you bud." The oldest Vaughn sibling called from his grill, offering the younger boy a bright smile. He was used to seeing him around the house all the time with Alaska, but he hadn't been around lately which was surprising considering he seemed to be the only person insane enough to hangout with his sister.

Sawyer smiled down at Grace as they walked, her fingers itching to reach out and take Grace's which she resisted. To be honest, Sawyer didn't really care where they were as long as she was with Grace.

"That's alright. I can deal with parties." Grace's next words had Sawyer grinning rather mischievously. She glanced around to make sure no one was paying any close attention to them and leaned down close to Grace's ear to whisper at her.

"I could think of a few things I'd rather be doing to you right about now." Sawyer's hand snaked up Grace's arm briefly before she pulled away, still grinning ear to ear, "But I'm sure there's plenty of fun to be had here." She glanced around, "Like....." Not drinking alcohol. Stop. "Swimming, of course."

Raven raised a brow. Grinning at the compliment. “I’m glad you loved it. Some of my best work.” She gladly took the drink from the girl, taking a sip and eying over the rim of the cup. “Although, i plenty other skills, that i could inform you more about if you’d like.” She winked.

After about a moment, she spoke. She knew her name, it was only fair. “So, am i gonna call you ‘the 49th state?’ Or are you going to introduce yourself?” Raven was dying to know the girl’s actual name. Thinking of potential names the brunette could have, as she waited for her reply.

"Oh, I might take you up on that offer." The brunette winked, a smile lighting up her face. She definitely liked this girl, she was just as full of wit and flirtatiousness as her, the beginning of a perfect friendship. Or, maybe more than that. Raven was definitely flirty, but that didn't necessarily mean she was actually into her. Alaska had already made the mistake of thinking a straight girl was into her at her last school, hadn't exactly ended well.

"My name's Alaska, like the state." It was embarrassing that she'd never properly introduced herself, the 49th state wasn't exactly a great impression to give. Oops. It was her parent's fault for naming her after a freakin' ice cap in the first place. "So, what got you into writing?"

Jace flashed her a smile. "So you're not a party person, either? That's good. Parties are kind of dumb with all the drinking and bad decisions." And the petunia pissers of the world, but that was something Jace had almost completely gotten over at this point. Almost. He still didn't want to see the kid, but heard that he was still in the hospital, so at least he got some kind of reprieve for the time being. And yes, Jace wasn't much of a shorts wearer, mainly because he was always cold. Probably because he never exercised or did anything that would get the blood flowing because let's be honest, sitting around listening music didn't do much for the body.

At the mention of his beanie, his hand again rushed to the missing hat. "I don't want to risk getting it wet. Trying to clean a beanie is hard and like, I don't want to wait for it to get washed or dried, or possibly lose it in the ocean." If he decided to go swimming, that was. "Anyway, you uh, you look really nice." Dang, he almost got through that without blushing, but then his dang cheeks betrayed him.

She jumped when the doorbell rang, and then took a moment to take in a deep breath before she walked to the door, opening it up and smiling at Ryan. Right. Ash forgot about the whole motorcycle thing. It had been years since she'd ridden one with a... a past flame, but she pushed those thoughts away. "Aww, thanks. I tried hard just to impress you." Ash joked, smirking at him as she took the helmet from him, and then looked him up and down, making no move to hide her obvious viewing. "You don't look too bad yourself."

She then took the helmet, pulling it on and buckling, before nodding her head. "I'm ready." Ash was ready for a night that didn't end in horror like last week's back to hell party. It was hard to imagine that it had been only a week since then, when she was mad at Ryan and now here she was, on a date. "Are you excited for your first official date?" Her eyes lit up and she reached out, poking Ryan in the chest before hopping down the stairs and towards his motorcycle.

Now, well, Mason was completely focused on her, and not at all on Drake or the hot girls swarming around. At first, he was standing there in complete disbelief, his mouth open in shock, and then his face twisted into anger. "You what?" He snapped, amber eyes narrowing in anger down at her. "Who the hell do you think you are? I didn't need your charity. We had it, we could take care of it ourselves." Mason hated accepting or asking for help. He had worked hard to paint an image of a perfect family, with a happy mother, two normal sons, and no money problems, or drug addictions, or mental illnesses. Mason had worked so hard to give everyone the illusion that his and Drake's home life was fine and normal, and not a complete mess.

And the moment that he opened up to someone, this happened. June decided that he needed her assistance, and decided to wave her rich girl fairy wand and throw money at him. "I don't need some kind of god damn sugar momma or whatever the hell you call it. I don't need your family's pity or your help. We were fine." He exhaled loudly, his teeth gritting together in anger. "I fucking knew it was a stupid idea to tell you anything. And here I thought you were different."

Mason turned, shaking his head, and started to struggle his way through the sand. "This is why everyone at Westbrook seems so 'fake' to you. The moment we say anything, people like you decide to stick their noses where it's not fucking wanted." And with that, he angrily made his way away from her before yelling over his shoulder one last time: "Expect a check in the mail paying for you 'hospitality.'"

Drake

Amongst his many addictions, one that Drake tended to lean towards strongly was alcoholism. And here he thought he could stand around his peers, with their alcohols and their drugs and not have any problems, but the smell of liquor from Raven and Alaska's cups were enough to make him dizzy. The itch to get wasted, to not feel, was strong and Drake's fingers started twitching, and soon his hands were tapping against his sides. It was almost a godsend when he heard Alaska's very attractive older brother calling to him.

Thankful for any kind of pull away from the landslide that was alcohol, Drake hurried over to the brother, tapping his sunglasses so that they fell back down over his eyes. "What's up, Chasey boy?" He asked, flashing a huge grin while he still tried to kill the little demon inside him that was itching for a taste of that sweet fermented beverage.

"I see they stuck you on the great old dad duty of grilling." Drake had seen enough shows to know that dads were always the ones that did the grilling in wholesome family settings. He looked over the food, and then nodded his head in support. "Good job. Great job. Best hunks of meat I've ever seen and trust me, I've been around the block, if you know what I mean." Drake said with a little wiggle of an eyebrow followed by a wink, although the wink was hidden by his sunglasses.

Grace smiled, she was glad Sawyer could handle parties. They weren’t much fun without her. when she leaned in to whisper in her ear, Grace’s eyes widened. And her heart skipped a beat when Sawyer touched her arm. Woah, okay. She turned to look at her when she pulled away. And watched her as she talked about fun.

“Mmhm.” Was all she could make out at the moment. She was too busy gazing at Sawyer’s lips. She shook off the daze, clearing her throat. “Yeah, swimming is..great.” Her cheeks were unbelievably red at the moment. Blame it on the heat.

Ryan smiled as she put the helmat on. This was going to be fun. "Alright, looks like we're gonna have some fun!" He said walking over to his bike. He put on his helmat and sat down. "Oh, you might want to hold on real tight." He said turning the key on the bike. The engine roared to life. He felt the vibration from the engine sitting between his legs. "This is gonna be fun." He said. He could feel her hands wrap around his stomach. "Trying to feel me up?" He said laughing lightly before pulling out to the major roads.

He pulled up to the beach. "Welcome Ash, to Westbrook's beach. Or as I like to call it, Almost heaven. The only thing is the right company." He said taking off his helmat. He looked at Ash and took off his jacket. He had a white tee-shirt on. He slowly pulled off his shirt to reveal his bare naked chest. It's toned, tanned skin glistening in the sunlight. "I think I heard Sawyer is gonna be here." He said realizing that Grace was also planning on being there. "Maybe even a few other people." He said offering his hand out. He wanted to have fun, and he wanted her to be there with her so she could experiance them.

June
June instantly frowned when she saw his face. She had always assumed he would be mad, but she never expected this. She started to slowly step back as he went off and watched as he walked away. She was about to let him go until he mentioned he was going to pay her back. “Oh hell no.” She mumbled before immediately running to him and grabbing his arm. “Don’t walk away from me like that.” She gritted her teeth and used both arms to stop him.

“What the hell is wrong with you?” She said immediately. She wanted to get away from everyone, but she was also afraid she would lose him. “Look, I understand where you are coming from. I really really do. But don’t dare think I throw my money around lightly.” She started off then lowered her voice quickly. “The reason no one in this town even knows where I used to live is because it’s the poorest area in Maine. The slums of the slums. We don’t have anything.” She hated to remember the times her mother starved herself in order to feed her. And sometimes she didn’t even have that. The schools were terrible and that’s why it was so easy for her to latch onto Ruby and Ruby onto her. She didn’t exactly want to explain that now. “I only did it because you know why. I always wanted someone to give us charity because if we didn’t there was no way we could do it ourselves. Be greatful someone gives a damn.” She sighed and shook her head. “Don’t dare try to mail me or I’ll send it right back.” She threatened.

Despite her growing a pair and getting angry at the angriest person in town, she started to walk away. She truly didn’t know Mason and wasn’t sure if he would punch her too.

Nova understood completely why Jace had chosen to leave the beanie at home, nodding in agreement to his reasoning. She hoped one day she would get to know why the blonde loved that beanie so much (besides its obviously adorable color) and why even now, he seemed sort of... lost without it. Although in all fairness, she got that 'lost' feeling whenever Jace gave her one of his awkward compliments, confused as to why such a sweet boy found her pretty.

Nonetheless, Nova focused on keeping her eyes on the road, turning off of the main road and instead onto a gravely, sandy trail. She loved this, taking her truck off of the pavement and letting it do was it was made to do. It wasn't long before she started to see little spouts of black on the horizon, people gathering around a large wood pile, some in the beach and some just hanging out. Carefully, she drove towards the small group of people, letting her truck sift along the sand, backing up to park the bed of her truck to the ocean view. "Let the party begin," The brunette sighed, looking over at Jace with sort of a 'we-got-this' expression before pushing her door open, grabbing her bag from the backseat before slamming the door. The beach was so much nicer than she had previously imagined, and it didn't take long for the short hazel-eyed girl to feel slightly self conscious as she looked over the crowd of people that were there. They were all skinny and beautiful and semi tan, and yes, Nova was comfortable with herself but damn if this wasn't intimidating. "Does Westbrook only enroll the pretty and talented?" She scoffed as she waited for Jace, redirecting her attention from the people to the waves. She couldn't wait to dive into the ocean, if just to feel it. Nova hadn't ever swam in the sea, and it was some sort of childhood-mermaid fantasy of hers.

She chuckled a bit. “Alaska.” Well, it wasn’t one the names she was guessing of.. “I like it. It’s unusual.” She studied the girl for a few seconds, before her eyes drifted to June & Mason talking. Raven had decided she wasn’t a huge fan of Mason. She tried so hard to not roll her eyes. She turned her attention back to Alaska. No one ever asked about her writing before so it was a surprise. But she answered anyway.

“My grandmother.” She smiled fondly as she continued. “We used to read together a lot.” “One day, the power went out. I don’t really remember why, but we couldn’t exactly read in the dark, so we made up a few stories..” She trailed off, turning her head to see Mason yelling at June, well that was quick. Is he ever not upset? Raven was so ready to head over there maybe just to talk some sense into Mason. as June went after him.. she realized that Mason wouldn’t physically hurt her. He wasn’t that stupid. She bit her lip, trying to decide if she should head over there or not.

It seemed personal, and despite dying to head over there, June probably didn’t want her to get involved. She turned back towards Alaska with a apologetic smile. And continued “Uh..anyway. They were actually stories of our neighbors, so it wasn’t all fiction. It was a really good day, and i think that kind of put some things into perspective for me..” She shook her head, realizing she might’ve shared a bit much. Desperate to change the conversation to literally anything else but her.

Sighing heavily, Taking a big swig of the alcohol inside her cup, she spoke. “But enough about me.. what do you like to do for fun.” She asked.

He gave himself one final you got this inwards pep talk before Jace got out of the truck, his heart pounding harder than when Nova had professed her feelings for him. Even if he was a senior, this was Jace's first party... well, at least that wasn't at his house, but he always just hid in his room during those parties. He wasn't pleased about this, but he wasn't risking Ash getting hurt again by some jerk for the third year in a row. His eyes scanned the crowd as he came to a stop beside Nova. "Well, there's non-attractive people. But they aren't popular." Jace slowly did the imagination thing with his hands from Spongebob, while saying; "Popular people. Popular people everywhere." And yes, they were all super good looking, and it was intimidating. He sighed, his shoulders slouching forward as he started walking towards the party. "Like, what do you even do at these things?" He mumbled.

His eyes scanned the crowd until they caught on Ash, looking way too giddy while being accompanied by Ryan. Jace could throw a rock and hit a guy that was a better choice for her than Ryan, but she would never listen to him and his opinions on who she should date. Shaking his head, Jace turned his attention back to Nova, a faint smile on his face as he looked down at her. "Did I tell you that you look really beautiful today?" He was sure he had, but his nerves had gotten so under his skin that he could barely remember the nerve-wracking truck ride over here. And even if he did, Nova deserved the extra compliment.

Ash climbed on behind him, and rolled her eyes at the comment about feeling him up. "What can I say? You're just so good-looking, I can't keep my hands to myself." She smirked at him, and then squeezed a little tighter when the motorcycle started off. It was familiar, but at the same time new. Yes, she'd been on a motorcycle before, but it had been so many years that she'd forgotten what it was like to feel the wind, and feel free. After a little bit, her grip loosened up a bit, and she found herself actually enjoying the ride.

She fumbled with the strap a bit, but managed to take off the helmet, setting it on his bike and trying to stare as he took off his shirt and what not but, well, hey she'd have to look at some point during the night. "Oh yeah. Grace is going to be here." Her face lit up at the thought of her best friend, and she smiled when he mentioned Sawyer. "Perfect. So you won't be all alone with like, the popular kids." Ash laughed, although it was true. Was Ryan even friends with any of them? "Ryder's going to be here, too. Like, obviously, it's his party." Of the broken, messed up boys that Ash had decided were going to be her friends, Ryder was... well, he was a mess, but at least he wasn't a mess in the way that Kanen was. Ryder was a little better. Kind of.

Ash smiled, taking his hand and giving it a squeeze before heading towards the party, looking around at the crowd and scanning them for familiar faces. "Do you wanna go say hi to Sawyer?" She asked when she noticed her and Grace together. Strange... they seemed to always be together these days it seemed.

Mason

Curse the stupid sand and this stupid crutch and stupid Kanen for breaking him. Mason would've been able to escape in style if his leg was broken. Heck, this whole argument wouldn't even be a thing if his leg wasn't broken. Kanen hadn't just taken away Mason's hope of any kind of future -- he'd taken away his basic dignity. Mason had always prided himself on being able to provide for his family since he was just a young teenager. Hell, since he was a kid, stealing food from the grocery store under his shirt to feed himself and Drake. For years, he'd accepted no help, until Adriane. And what had he gotten out of the relationship?

A fucking kid that he couldn't even provide for, a kid that he had failed and let down. Mason was no better than his own father in that situation, except that at least instead of leaving Ariana with her deadbeat mother, he'd made sure she went to a good home. But his goals, all of his goals, were slipping through his fingers like the very sand he was trudging through.

"You can act like you understand, but you fucking don't." Mason shook his head. June had just stripped him to the last little bit of pride he had left. He hadn't had much in the world and within one week, every single thing that made Mason feel as if he had some kind of control, some kind of grasp on his life, had been taken from him. Great, so she was poor, too. Great. But that didn't mean she got to decide what everyone else wanted. So what if they had wanted help? That didn't mean Mason did, and certainly not for something as stupid as his freaking leg. That was something that could heal. What he really needed charity for was so many other things -- Ari, rehab for Drake. Things that couldn't be replaced or healed over time. Things that were ticking time bombs.

He knew he shouldn't be mad. But damn it, this was all he had left, and now Mason wasn't even able to care for himself.

Chase

The older Vaughn laughed at Drake's joke, shaking his head at the younger boys flirting, knowing full well that he was way too shy to have been around anyone's block. "C'mon, that's the best you can do?" He teased, flipping a burger onto a paper plate forcefully to prove his point before handing it to Drake. "Eat up, I didn't make all these burgers for nothing." It was true, they'd bought way too much food and while they did have three hungry athletes at home there was no way they could eat all the food they'd prepared, not to mention the alcohol.

While he may have been Alaska's friend, Chase still enjoyed the football player's company and his sense of humor. Drake was unlike all the other jocks at Westbrook, his younger brother included. "So, how's your semester so far?"

Ryder

tenor.gif

Ryder had grown bored talking to his hockey teammates and surveyed the beach, noticing a few people he recognized hanging around, specifically the hot blonde cheerleader he'd invited, her scary friend attached at the hip. He'd have to find a way to talk to her when Sawyer was too distracted to play bodyguard. A familiar head of blonde hair walked into view as he spotted Ash walking towards the beach with Ryan beside her, something he would definitely be asking about later, and an idea popped into his head as he remembered her minuteman comment from Monday, excusing himself and walking towards them.

"Excuse me, I need to borrow her, thanks." It would've been rude to just steal Ryan's girl and leave, so he politely apologized before picking the blonde up and booking it towards the water. He spotted another couple walking in front of him that he didn't know, and thought why the hell not, picking up the girl (Nova) in his free arm and continuing his sprint towards the ocean.

"YEET!" He yelled, tossing both girls into the clear water below and hastily making his escape back onto dry land. He figured this would probably end very badly for him, but it was worth the laugh.

Alaska

634P.gif

"Unusual is one way to put it." Alaska laughed, it had definitely made finding a keychain with her name on it rather hard. The Vaughn's had been a rather eccentric couple, at least Chase had a some what normal name. Apparently any hint of normalcy had gone out the window with the twins.

It was clear to see Raven was distracted, and turning her head to look she could see a very attractive, very angry boy to be the cause of her distraction. Not that she could blame her. Although she knew Mason could be an asshole, he was her best friend's older brother and she understood at least some of what their family was going through. Though Drake would never fully divulge their business, the few times he did open up to his friend had been heavy and Alaska could understand the emotional turmoil that came from a broken home.

"That's really cool. I take it you and your grandmother are close?" She smiled, enjoying the way the brunette's face lite up as she talked about what she loved. "Oh, me? I play hockey and volleyball, it's a good way to get the anger out without getting suspended. " Sports took up almost all of the Vaughn's free time, if Alaska wasn't at her own practice she was at one of her brother's. Their parents had practically forced it down their throats, but luckily all three siblings had hockey in their blood, even cool-tempered Chase.

"I like to read too, maybe you should show me some of your other work sometime." Alaska grinned, twirling a long lock between her fingers as she flirted. Hearing a loud splash, Alaska turned around to see her twin had thrown two unfortunate girls into the ocean. "What the hell Ryder, I swear we need to put a leash on you."

June
She sighed as she kept on her steady path away from Mason. Don’t dare cry. Don’t dare cry. She kept telling herself. Suddenly the fire felt cold against her. The wind was hard instead of gentle. She had her arms crossed slightly in the way someone looked when they were cold. She didn’t know what to expect from this. Another embrace from Mason? Being able to help someone who helped her. Yeah, she expected that. She came here happy too, confident even. Now she didn’t feel anything.

She stood at the edge of the ocean and watched the wave wash up then retreat back. She took off her dress and immediately jumped in just as she felt like she couldn’t hold in the tears. What is done is done. Stop feeling sorry for yourself. Her inner critic was sharp. However, her heart was sharper. No one cares. You think he cared about your little secrets? And look at you, you ruined another. You break bridges faster than you can build them. Give up. Give up. Give up. GIVE UP.

She took in a deep breath as she rose from the water, having been under longer than she expected. She shook her head and held her hands against her face. “Everything is okay...” She whispered to herself and took a few more deep breaths before dropping her hands back into the water. She looked back at the shoreline.

The ocean was still beautiful.

Rose pink flushed Nova's cheeks at Jace's compliment as she tucker her hair behind her ear. Yes, he had already called her beautiful once, but the words were never too much to hear. However before she could reply, she squinted her eyes and nodded towards what looked to be some muscle-monster of a man sprinting towards a couple a little ways down the beach, gasping as she watched him scoop up a pretty blonde girl and start running. She didn't know if it was some weird high school ritual that Westbrook had or if- why was he coming towards her? Nova instinctively braced herself as she saw the tall, dark and handsome stranger run towards her and Jace and before she knew it, solid bicep hit her stomach before she was thrown over a shoulder. "WHO ARE YOU?!" She sort of scream laughed, looking up to see Jace becoming smaller and smaller and- wait. If she was going farther from Jace that meant she was going closer towards-

SPLASH
At first, Nova was sure she had just been drowned. One hundred percent, no other options. It wasn't until she felt herself wading in semi-cold water that she opened her eyes, salt stinging them instantly as she surfaced herself. Her clothes were drenched, flannel and all, white tank top obviously see through and she thanked whatever higher power there was that she hadn't worn any semblance of makeup, otherwise she was sure it would be running down her face. Still laughing a bit, she flipped her hair back and stood to her feet, peeling off her soaked shirt and ringing it out, still in the cool water of the ocean as she looked for the other girl who had been yeeted in with her. "Are you okay?" The brunette chuckled, wading over to the blonde girl with a friendly smile before looking back to shore to see if her mystery thrower had stuck around to watch the reaction. She couldn't spot him... or Jace... or anyone really with the stinging in her eyes. "Is this like... a normal way to start a party?" Nova sighed as she shook out her hair, tucking her shirt in the pocket of her shorts, not having time to care that for the first time in front of her classmates, she was topless.
