After Mason had left, football practice started soon after. Warm ups went by quickly, just a couple laps around the football field followed by stretches and various strength workouts. Not even ten minutes into practice though, Kanen walked off the field, heading over to the coaches. "I need to leave." He declared

"Practice just started." The coach argued,"Go get back out there with the rest of be guys."

"Well I need to go. I'll run extra tomorrow or something." Kanen said back, unbuttoning he straps on his helmet and loosening the laces on his cleats.

"You skip practice, you don't play. That's always been the rule, you know that."

"Give my starting spot to someone who cares then. I'm leaving. See you all tomorrow." With that, Kanen jogged off the field, heading right to he parking lot. His cleats sliced across the concrete as he jogged, his pads and helmet slung over his shoulder, bouncing on his back with each step.

His car was hot after sitting in he sun all day, but as soon as Kanen started driving, windows all rolled down, the temperature in the car dropped. The breeze blowing into the car was comfortable and cool. Summer time was definitely over. Fall was coming quickly, and soon it'd be cold enough that Kanen would have to start wearing a jacket.

It wasn't hard to spot a cripple hobbling alone down the road. What could be an hour of walking would only be a few minutes in the car. Kanen knew Mason would probably be stubborn about it, but Kanen was just offering a ride home. It's not like they needed to say anything o one another.

Pulling up to the boy on crutches, with the window already down, Kanen leaned over so he could see Mason out of his passenger window. "Get in... You're going to get bruises or some shit hobbling around all he time..."

Sawyer
Everything was going wonderfully, possibly even better than Sawyer had imagined in the first place. She was so wrapped up in Grace that she was confused when the other girl moved away from her. It wasn't until her brain adjusted back to the world around her that she realised what was happening. There was June, standing there look surprised like she had just seen.... oh shit. The haziness that had been drawn over Sawyer's eyes immediately dropped and she was left wondering what the hell she was supposed to do.

What do you mean what are you supposed to do, idiot? Go.

Sawyer hesitated, her feet only carrying her forward a few steps before her inner voice started screaming at her and she took off again. She slowed once she was behind Grace, trying to make room for her to tell her to go away. When nothing came she stepped right up next to Grace and looped her fingers through the other girl's. Sawyer prayed she wasn't making things worse but she made no move to let go. She was here. Sawyer wasn't going anywhere.

Martin French

‘Actually the brilliantly homosexual playwright, Oscar Wilde, reportedly kept a statue of Dionysus in his office in London. . . Dionysus was known to the Romans as Bacchus, the Roman religion having absorbed the Hellenistic pantheon and given them fancy Latin names. . .’

Much like his Roman heroes, Cicero and Marcus Antonius, Martin was a natural orator. He marched across the lecture hall like a senator before the Populus Romanus, casting a confident silhouette on the PowerPoint slideshow behind him as he did. Then he pressed the remote to change the slides and continued:

‘In the philosophy of Nietzsche, we also encounter the dichotomy of the Apollonian and the Dionysian. In Dionysus—’ Suddenly a wave of giggles and hushed laughter went round the hall. Martin wasn’t sure what the giggling was all about, until he turned around and to his horror, found that a picture of himself posing in a toga had been projected onto the screen.

Martin blushed and laughed. ‘I think I’m going to have a word with my son after this.’

Stu must have tampered with the slides when he was messing around with the laptop earlier. In case there was any doubt, the next slide was a picture of the whole French family, all wearing togas and posing as Roman statues.

‘That’s him on the right, the cheeky little bastard. And those are my two baby boys,’ he said, pointing at the picture with his stick, ‘And that’s my wife.’ He meant to say ex-wife. ‘We were at the Roman baths in the old English city—coincidentally enough—called Bath, in Somerset. . . Of course the Romans preferred to keep clean, and their complex system of aqueducts meant that they could sustain baths throughout their cities, and later on to actually build them to the limits of their vast empire. Most Romans didn’t bathe in the privacy of their own villas. Only the very rich, a fraction of the patricians, could have afforded such luxuries. . .’

Martin was stuttering. He was clicking through the embarrassing toga photos as fast as he could. Stu had been bored enough to put the whole holiday album on the slideshow.

‘And wine was one other such luxury that was available to Greek and Roman aristocrats. Dionysus was considered a God of madness and indulgence. His followers—those who drink from the wine—suffer the destructive effects of inebriety. They are often stricken with madness, religious hallucinations, and ecstasy. . .’

He stopped clicking at a picture of Stu. He stopped talking, too, as he reflected on the son he almost lost to the God of the Grape-Harvest, the Eater of Raw Flesh. A tear rolled down his cheek. There was silence in the lecture hall.

A few seconds later, Martin recomposed himself. ‘I’m sorry,’ he said and wiped his eyes. ‘Um. . . And as you can see. . . Dionysus has been a source of much literary inspiration down to the present times.’ He got to the end of the slides. ‘Well, listen, how about we wrap up a little early today?' He needed to get back to the hospital. 'But don’t forget your essay topics for next week,’ he said and promptly dismissed the class.

June
June felt awkward, stepping side to side slightly as Grace came over and talked to her. “Uh, yeah. I saw the whole thing...” She mumbled and flinched a little when they held hands. “Wait, tell no one? Is this suppose to be a secret relationship?” She frowned and looked at Grace. “No one knows. You gotta be kidding me. You’re so...” She felt herself getting mad once more. She quickly walked past the two and into her home, slamming the door behind her and walking up the stairs. So much for feeling light on her feet.

She slammed her room door behind her. Of course, she shouldn’t be so upset. It’s not her relationship, but something about her keeping it a secret and having Sawyer go along with it made her mad. Everyone will listen to Grace because she had everyone in the world in the palm of her hand. June didn’t want to be like that too.

Grace winced when Sawyer took ahold of her hand. She was just trying to help, Grace knows that. But she couldn’t help but think she was making it worse. “I mean-“ she didn’t know what she was going to say. But she didn’t even know what to say. Yeah, it was a secret relationship. She wasn’t ready to tell the whole world. She just needed time, and she was afraid June wouldn’t give it to her. She probably should’ve just told her that.

June spoke. Saying that she was.. She waited for her to continue. But it didn’t come, she just stormed past them. Grace closed her eyes and sighed. Gently removing her hand from Sawyer’s. “I’ll um.. call you later.” Giving her the tinest of smiles. Grace didn’t exactly sound cheery, but she hoped Sawyer would understand. Everything was going so well. why did this have to happen? She wanted to say more to Sawyer, but she was unsure at the moment. With a last look at Sawyer she went into the house.

When she walked in she heard a door slam, and nobody was home. So it was obviously June. Walking up the steps and after hesitating outside her door for a few seconds, she knocked.

“June, Can we just talk?” leaning her head on the door. “Please.” She pleaded.

June
It wasn’t even long before she heard Grace knocking on her door. She gripped her pillow and put it over her head until she heard some desperation in Grace’s voice. She wished once again, she could stick her ground. She just hated to be rude to people. So she got up and quickly opened the door.

“I’ll keep your secret. Is that the only thing you want to hear from me? You’re so selfish. The only thing I wanted was a friend here and the first thing you do is ignore me. You ignored me the first day of school too. It always has to be about you and what you want.” She felt tears slowly well up again as she angrily shouted at Grace. “You have it all. A nice mother, friends, popularity. Everyone makes up with you. You even had my own father. What do you have that my father wouldn’t stay with us? What made him want you than he wanted me?” She bit her lip as tears rolled down her eyes. She didn’t mean to tell her the truth. It just tumbled out with the rest of her feelings. “Now you want me to keep your secret. Even though you two love each other, you can’t risk your damn popularity for Sawyer.” She shook her head. “I bet this isn’t what you wanted to hear.”

Grace

Grace backed away from the door, when June opened it. She was surprised she did, but that surprise was nothing compared to what she felt when June started yelling at her. It hurt her when June said she was selfish. Grace didn’t think she was wrong, that’s probably why it hurted. “I didn’t mean to ignore-“ she let her continue. Grace felt guilty, how was she supposed to make it right. Can she even?

Noticing the tears in her eyes just made her feel worse. It was when she mentioned David, June started to actually cry. She looked away from her. Grace didn’t know how to answer that. She hated David, she didn’t understand why he wanted to stay here either. “June..” what was she supposed to say? She knows exactly how she felt. But that doesn’t matter, Maybe she was right. Grace was selfish.

Her eyes snapped back to her’s when she mentioned Sawyer. She winced as though the words physically hurt. Her own eyes teared up, but she blinked them back quickly.

“No, it isn’t what i wanted to hear.” She admitted.

“Nobody likes hearing the truth about themselves.” By now Grace believed it. She had it all. Maybe she was just afraid to lose it.

She shook her head. “I care so much about what other people think.” It was the truth, she did. That wasn’t just going to go away in a flash. Just because she lov- liked, liked. someone.

“And i hate it, but i do. It’s how i was raised.” Her mother was nice, to June. Maybe. She could be tough to deal with sometimes. It’s apart of why she’s trying so hard to not fail spanish. “I try so hard get everyone’s approval.” She told her.

“I’m afraid, June.” She tried explaining to her. “I’m afraid that I’ll lose everyone i care about.” She quickly wiped away a tear that fell, she didn’t want her to see her crying, Grace didn’t know how her mother would act. She raised her to be her own idea of perfect, and maybe being gay...would change that. She’d look at her, and she wouldn’t see her daughter anymore, she’d see the real her. Which was terrifying to think about. Or even Ash, what if she gets all weird about it and doesn’t want to be friends anymore. It sounded stupid, yes. But Grace didn’t want to take the risk. Even though one day she has to. “I just..”

“I want to tell everyone on my own time.. and i will, when I’m ready. Just please.. don’t take that away from me.” And she was making it about herself again. She was just proving her right, at this point.

“I get it, how you feel about your dad. I do, but i don’t know what to tell you about David, he’s an asshole.” Okay, so maybe insulting her father isn’t apologizing correctly.

“But you’re right. About everything.” She nodded, “I’m sorry, that i ignored you. I’m not used to having anyone else but my mom & I. And i took that out on you.” She continued remembering the night of the party. “I’m sorry that i dared you to kiss Mason.” It was her first kiss, it wasn’t fair that she had it stolen from her.
“I’m sorry for all of it.” She bit her lip, thinking about what she said earlier. “But we don’t have to make up.” She sighed.

“It’s okay, if you hate me. I understand I’d hate me too.”

She paused, her hand still resting on the doorknob as she watched Grace. Then, she understood as she spoke. June’s have softened on the doorknob as she spoke more and more about her just wanting people to love her as well as being sorry for her actions. She didn’t know what June expected, but she didn’t want her to hear she hated herself. “No.” She immediately said. “You can be sorry, but don’t stand here to say it’s okay to hate on you and for you to hate yourself.” June eventually let go and reached out, taking a page from Mason and hugging her.

“I don’t want to hate you.” She said gently. “And you don’t have to be sorry either. I just had that on my chest. I’ve always wanted a sister, but not one that knows others’ hearts before her own.” She stepped away and put her hands on Grace’s shoulders. “I won’t tell anyone and I’m sorry for going off on you.”

She furrowed her brows, “..no?” She didn’t understand until she continued. She tensed up when she hugged her, she didn’t expect it. But after a moment she hugged her back tightly. “I don’t want to hate you either, so. It works out.”

She couldn’t help but chuckle when she said she always wanted a sister. She always wanted a sibling too. “Yeah, i always did too.” She released her, she didn’t know she was so sweet. Maybe she never realized it or never wanted to see it until now. She eyed the hand on her shoulder. And smiled softly, despite all the yelling, Grace felt like they broke some kind of wall that they both put up.

“It isn’t a big deal. Next time you’re upset, you can yell at me all you want.” She shrugged.

“It isn’t like i can ignore you, we live like..20 feet from each other.” It was a playful sentiment.

Rory Quinn
Angelina cried more after explain why she was so sad. "Wow that was mean", he sighed as he thought of his brother Jayden. It has been six years since the two have seen each other and their last encounter was anything but nice. He ripped from his brother arms after the police found their hiding spot. After that they deemed his brother too old to be in foster care but also on unable to care for Rory. Despite his age he was able to find a new home rather quickly but at what cost. To be stripped away from his freedom and never have contact with brother ever again? "I feel attracted to you too". He wasn't sure if at that moment he should blurt out that they slept together but he didn't see why that would be an issue it she liked him anyway.

"We sort of...slept together. It was great though. Good thing you were to drunk to remember my pick up lines".

"It was very mean but she'll come back; she does eventually" Angelina muttered with a sigh. "We didn't... have sex? I don't think so. And I'm sure I remember laughing at your pick -up lines. For what reason, I can't remember".

Rory bit the inside of cheek trying not to feel upset. They had a great time so why didn't she remember? Of all things that happened all she could remember were dumb pick up lines he found off the internet. "Yeah we did. Don't you remember when I laid you on the bed. I tried to get you food but you told me you didn't want me to leave".

"I remember that but the rest is blurry". Angelina ended the hug, wiping her eyes again. Her glasses were still clutched in her hand. "So... did you want to go out? Later? On a date"?

"Yeah...that'd be nice", he said as he tool Angelina's glasses and put them back on her face. "While you were drunk I also told you how beautiful you were with your glasses on". That night was something he would never forget. It was full of passion, lust and bliss all wrapped into one. Rory had never experienced that before but he was glad he it with Angelina as she was the only person besides his bother that seemed to understand him. "Where would you like to go. I have always wanted to go to this ice cream shop I pass by on my way to school. Or we could go see a movie", he suggested.

Mason glanced over at the car, and rolled his eyes. "Oh like you care," he grumbled and for a moment, he continued to struggle his way along the street. However, he then decided that making Kanen spend his gas driving Mason home was a good middle finger, so he hobbled his way over and opened the car door, hopping in and pulling his crutches in after him.

"Thanks." Mason grumbled, although it was hard to say. He didn't want to accept the hospitality, and this dang car was crowded with his crutches on his lap. But hey, anything was better than walking. He suddenly found himself strongly missing his old car that he'd sold when he was tight for cash. Now... well, it sucked but he had nothing to sell for extra cash.

Jace was calm. He was cool, calm, and collected... And then Nova scooted closer, and his heart started pounding harder. And then she nudged his shoulder, and Jace's heart went even faster. And then she even had the nerve to touch his hair, tuckin it back, and Jace thought he might burst. He'd never been this close to a girl before thanks to his lovely awkwardness and inability to understand when anyone flirted with him.

Once air had returned to his lungs Jace, still frozen in absolute shock, managed to utter out. "I hate to tell you this..." His voice was barely a whisper, his hands were probably shaking a bit, and his eyes were darting all around, taking in every inch of Nova's face. " "But I'm awkward with everyone. It's not just because I like you."

Dang, he was great at sexy words.

Elise Daniels

Elise Daniels had spent the last several years of her life trying to make something of herself as an actress in New York. Little did she know that trying to make a career for oneself there was just as difficult as it was rumored to be. So although she had made herself a fairly sought after actress, it still wasn't enough too pay the bills.

So she had found herself back in Westbrook at the University where she now sat, watching the newest professor struggle through his lecture. He had been doing so well, so strongly, until pictures of his son had popped up. Elise wasn't sure what it was like to care so much for a child, but she could tell that it obviously caused him pain.

So after Professor French had released the class, Elise gathered her things and walked to the front of the classroom to greet him. "Professor French," she said, pausing in front of him, her voice smooth like velvet as she spoke. "I'm Professor Daniels. They asked me to sit in on your class and make some notes about it. Intriguing topic, and I loved the personal touch with your own photos." She teased.

Angelina giggled as Rory put her glasses back on her face, going slightly red. "You're embarassing me" she whispered as he complimented her. Getting a little flustered by his simple compliment, she turned her head away from him. "W... we could do both. Ice cream shop first, movies the day after. As long as you're with me".

Since the afternoon that Nova confessed her liking of Jace, and he admitted having similar feelings, life had been pretty steady. Her house was finally put together, her mother’s ‘vintage farmhouse’ theme coming along nicely, and her classes seemed to be calming down (though science was still kicking her ass). She spent most of her time either at home, at Jace’s or in the music room, not that she minded that either, she didn’t care for massive hangouts or big parties. Plus, she really enjoyed getting to know Jace more, the blonde’s awkwardness dying down just a tad... or maybe Nova was just starting to get use to it.

Saturday morning came quicker than expected, Nova sitting up in bed and stretching out her arms, her massive white dog at the end of the bed laying across her feet. She loves how her room turned out, all in light beiges and soft greens, some spots of yellow coming through on her floral comforter. She got great light in the mornings, and couldn’t even be mad as it shined brightly in her eyes. Yawning, the brunette reached over to her phone, which was blowing up with twitter notifications that someone named Ryder was throwing a bonfire... which actually sounded fun. Although she wasn’t a fan of crowds, she wondered how June and Raven had been, and maybe they would be there. Half asleep and still in PJs, Nova scrolled through her phone and found Jace’s contact, pressing on the call button (Jace hated texting she found out) and waited for him to answer.

Ryder

tumblr_pf4brtxYjf1t999oko1_400.jpg

Hosting a bonfire was potentially the most stressful decision the twins had ever made. Obtaining alcohol had been Chase's job, while their sister had been on snack duty and Ryder in charge of bringing enough blankets and chairs. It had taken much longer than they had plan to set up, mostly due to the fact that the twins shared a car and argued over who needed to run their errands first. After a few hours of stress-induced yelling, the three siblings managed to finally get the beach set-up for their bonfire.

"While you boys finish carrying the chairs I'm going to start the fire!"

"Oh no no no, Alaska you do not get to be anywhere near fire!" The eldest Vaughn called, dropping the chairs he was carrying to grab the lighter fluid out of his little sister's hands. Both boys very distinctly remembered the Alaska fire of 2016.

"That's not fair!" She complained, crossing her arms like a petulant child as Chase poured the fluid over the pile of wood they'd arranged in the middle.

"Yeah well maybe you shouldn't almost burn the house down." Ryder retorted, ruffling his twin's hair to annoy her as he set down the last of the chairs around their bonfire.

"That was one time!"

Alaska

large.jpg

While setting up had been anything but fun, Alaska had to admit they'd done a damn good job. Between the three siblings they'd invited practically half the school, a little concerning considering all the drama that had been going on and the constant antagonizing Ryder had, but as long as no one got too drunk they figured they'd be fine. No one would be dumb enough to get into a fight so close to a fire.

The brunette had pulled a pair of ripped shorts over her bathing suit as the sun was getting lower on the horizon, deciding to relax by grabbing a random bottle off the table and pouring a shot for herself as she waited for their friends to arrive, plopping herself down on a blanket in the sand.

Raven
tumblr_phpzybyLKJ1xl7j82o2_400.gif

“Damn, it.” Raven was ready to throw the computer into the wall. It wasn’t working correctly, and that meant she couldn’t work correctly. She knew she needed a new one, considering she had this one for years. But she didn’t have the money to buy it. This computer had to work. It had to. She heard a knock at her door. She mumbled a ‘come in’

Rolling her eyes at who entered. “What is it.” She asked her mother who stood at the doorway.
“Just wanted to see what you were up to.” Andrea asked innocently. It pissed Raven off.
But surprisingly she held her tongue. “Nothing.” She told her, almost shoulder checking her. As she exited the room, giving up on the computer for now.

Flopping down on the couch, next to her grandmother. “Abuela, help. I’m so bored.” She said, looking at her, waiting for some kind of answer. The woman didn’t answer her. she expected as much. Usually she just goes to her to rant about things, sometimes she’ll talk back to her, although. It’s about what would Andrea like for dinner.. like, 18 years ago.

Scrolling through her phone, she saw Ryder post about a bonfire. Could be fun.. although she didn’t even have a way to go. She frowned at the screen. And someone grabbed the phone from her. “Hey! Nancy, stop.” She laughed attempting to grab the phone back. “Ooo a bonfire, how exciting.” Raven rolled her eyes at Nancy’s teasing.

“Yeah, i don’t have a ride though..so.” She shrugged. “Oh well. Looks like they won’t be graced by my presence.” Finally taking the phone back. She flinched as her mother spoke directly behind her. “I could give you a ride.” Her mother shrugged. Raven raised her eyebrows in surprise. “What’s in it for you?” She asked.
Andrea rolled her eyes. “Raven, just let me give you a ride.” She could tell she was growing impatient.

Raven knew Nancy was staying late, so why not have some fun? She shrugged “Okay, fine.” She gave in. Her mother looked surprised but nodded with a smile on her face. After about an hour, they made their way to the beach, in the run-down car her mother owned. Andrea eyed her outfit. “You sure you don’t want to change?” She asked, Raven furrowed her brows. “It’s a beach. And little late for the cliche ‘go change’ young lady.” They sat in slience for a few minutes.

“You have a boyfriend?” Her mother asked, without missing a beat, Raven answered. “Nope, no girlfriend either.” Her mother nodded slowly. “Do you?” Raven threw the question back at her. Andrea looked like she was about to say something, at that time they pulled up. “Looks like were here.” She forced a smile. Raven rolled her eyes. “Thanks.” Getting out of the car, closing the door. And winced when it creaked. “Jesus..”

she said walking off towards the beach.
It didn’t seem like a lot of people were here yet. So much for being fashionably late.. So she decided to walk along the beach. Her eyes landing on a brunette that looked familiar. She furrowed her brows making her way to her, blocking the sun that she was bathing in.

“And people say the ocean is a sight to see.. ” She said grinning, admiring the girl in-front of her.

“Do i know you?”

Grace adjusted her outfit, looking in the mirror. She was wearing shorts, over her suit. But Maybe she should just change.. why was she so nervous? She was just going to the beach with friends. ..and Sawyer. Who was now her girlfriend. Okay, okay, okay. She looked fine.

Her mother walked in.. After her talk with June, Grace went to talk to her mother to explain the whole fiasco that went down that night. She was surprisingly..calm about it. Maybe David put her in a good mood, ..let’s not think about that. she shuddered. “What’s up mom?” She said, offering her a smile.

“You’re going to that bonfire tonight?” Grace nodded. “June & I. Don’t worry, there shouldn’t be alcohol.” She bit her lip, that was probably a lie. It was high school, of course there was going to be alcohol. But after Ash’s party, she wasn’t interested in drinking. At least not anytime soon.

“I’ll ask David to drop you girls off.” Kate said. Grace shook her head. “Uh, no need. A girl we know is picking us up.” A girl she knew..yeah that worked.

“Ash?” Her mother asked questionably. “Not, Ash. Um..her name’s Sawyer. You haven’t met her yet.” Grace said while braiding her hair. She quickly finished. “Anyway, uh, we should go.”

“June!” She shouted “let’s leave, like..right now please.” Sawyer wasn’t even here yet, but she wanted to get out of this conversation with her mother. She didn’t want to continue talking about Sawyer with her mom, what if she wanted to meet her. She wasn’t ashamed of Sawyer, she just didn’t want her to catch on. Kate’s a criminal defense lawyer, she’s good at finding out the truth. Which is why Grace can’t believe she didn’t say anything about the alcohol about the beach.

Drake
tumblr_m9lj01Ph3E1rv8x1j.gif

After a week of not going to school or showering, Mason had informed Drake all about the bonfire. After some great reluctance, Drake had gotten into the shower, washing away the filth of an entire week of not moving from bed. He then stood in front of the mirror, drying off his hair and looking into the foggy mirror. He reached out, clearing the fog from the mirror, and then decided that maybe he looked better with fog across the screen. Drake sighed and got dressed in a simple t-shirt and swim shorts.

He then stepped out of the bathroom, whipping out some gorgeous pink sunglasses, sliding them on his face, and superman posing at Mason. "I'm ready. Take me to the party."

Turns out it was hard to see inside of a fairly dark house with sunglasses on, and he successfully walked into a couple walls on his way out, but refused to part with his strong fashion statement. Drake followed his brother out, and the two haled down a taxi and took that on the long, long ride all the way to the beach. Drake thought he might pass out from the strong scent of alcohol and vomit in the backseat of the taxi, or from Mason's lengthy lecture about not drinking.

Once there, Drake spent no time scurrying away from his brother to get to safety. He pulled his shirt off, tossing it somewhere to show off that beautifully unsculpted, flabby chest of his. When he felt good, sometimes Drake would pinch his stomach together and make it talk sassy things. Right now, he wasn't in the mood.

Drake didn't take long before he found two girls. He rushed up behind Raven, throwing his arm her (Drake made it his mission to know everyone), and grinned at her and Alaska. "Hello, you know what else is a sight to see? Like half the people on this beach." Drake had spent his time admiring Ryder. Even if the boy was straight, Drake could still admire.

He had spent far too long readying himself for this dang bonfire thing. Ash had insisted he go and Jace had strongly refused, until he found out that his little sister was going on a date with Ryan. Why couldn't she date a good guy for once? Jace remembered her old boyfriend from the year before, and he had longingly stared out the window, remembering how the only thing the kid had ever gotten high on was life and candy. Now, she was back to this bad boy phase, and Jace would not let his sister go to the bonfire alone and be left without backup when Ryan undoubtedly let her down somehow.

But hey, it could've been worse. She could've said it was Kanen, which Jace had strongly feared after she saved him from getting arrested. He was thankful to know now that it was just friendship... hopefully. Right?

He had to push those thoughts aside when his phone rang. Jace checked to see who it was, heart beating faster when he saw it was Nova. He practiced how to pick up a few times before he finally pressed the green answer button, clearing his throat, and saying "Hey, what's up?" to Nova, his voice deeper than necessary.

After the whole front yard fiasco with June and Grace freaking out about her seeing them, Sawyer had gathered up the guitar from the grass and went to leave the house. She'd tried to make herself focus on the more positive aspects of that evening, but she couldn't help but worry about Grace. Sawyer hoped that she and June could resolve whatever the hell was happening between the two of them. They hadn't really gotten a break from the drama since Ash's party and Sawyer just wanted to chill out.

Thankfully, Grace informed her that everything was okay with a text message, with an added heart emoji at the end of it that made her smile, and everything seemed to calm down a bit. The rest of the week went by in a non-drama heavy blur and finally it was time for Ryder's beach party. As much as she would've likes to avoid a party he was throwing all together, she had been invited by Grace and there was no turning back now. All that was left was to pick what sunglasses she liked best.

"Sawyer, don't you have some girls to pick up?" Oliver called from the living room, "You're going to be late." Sawyer frowned and turned to glance at the clock on her bedside table before cursing out loud. She grabbed her keys and the sunglasses closest to her before taking off out the door.

"Bye, dad!" She darted past him in his chair in the living room and he called after her to warn about drinking and being a responsible chauffeur, "Yeah, yeah, I know. Only had a girlfriend for three days, don't feel like killing her." She laughed as she practically flung herself out the door and into her car.

A few minutes and an "on my way" text to Grace later, Sawyer was pulling up outside Grace's house. She turned the volume of her music way down so as to not seem like a total douchebag in her beat up Mustang, but it was still pretty damn loud compared to most respectable volume levels. Sawyer leaned back in her seat and pulled out her phone to inform Grace that she had arrived.

Another small yawn faded from Nova’s mouth as Jace picked up the phone, his voice oddly deep but she didn’t think much of it. It was early in the morning, and she’s sure she didn’t sound too wonderful right now. None the less, she smiled and sat up in bed, throwing her legs over the edge to stand up. “Good morning,” She crooned lightly, standing up and heading over to her closet, an angry Kelbi groaning at her owner. Nova opened her closet with a sigh, flicking through her clothes. “Do you know anything about some bonfire going on tonight? It’s all over Twitter,” Deciding she owned too many pairs of jeans, the brunette grabbed a loose white tank top and a pair of high waisted jean shorts, along with a thick green flannel button down to go over top. She hadn’t a clue where her swimsuit was, but began rummaging through drawers in an attempt to find it. “It looked like a bunch of people were going, I was thinking about driving the truck over and if it totally sucks we can go park somewhere and you could give me a guitar lesson?” Nova’s voice was more playful as she woke up a bit, really just looking forward to spending some time with Jace. Tapping the call to speaker, she threw it onto the bed, snagging her bikini from a random drawer she had looked in and beginning to get dressed. She sort of assumed Jace must’ve known and was probably going to at least accompany her.

June
June felt a little better about going to another party. The first time was... okay. But the world is known for their second chances. She looked at herself in the mirror. Her swimsuit was bought by Grace once they were informed about the party. She didn’t really care about swimsuits and how sexy someone could look in them. But she had to admit. She understood the appeal now.

She slipped on her blue beach dress over her swimsuit and grabbed her hat, twisting and turning in the mirror before pointing finger guns at herself. Then she heard Grace call out to her. “Oh, okay!” She called back and walked out. Together she walked out with Grace. “You look nice by the way. Sawyer is pretty lucky.” She told her with a soft smile as they waited for Sawyer.

Grace was surprised when she complimented her. Them getting along was still a bit odd to get used to. But Grace wasn’t complaining, she smiled genuinely, “Awe, thanks. You look cute too.” She looked down at her phone when she got a text from Sawyer right as she pulled up. Grace could almost feel her mother’s eyes on them. And looking behind her, she saw her mother speaking out the doorway.

The music playing in her car wasn’t uh..very appropriate for the surburban neighborhood. “Oh my god.” She face-palmed, shocked at the choice of music. But she couldn’t help but laugh.

“C’mon.” She said to June, making her way to Sawyer’s car. As soon as the two got in, she turned down the music as she scolded her. “Inappropriate language, Sawyer.” She shook her head. Though still quite amused. “..and Hi.” She smiled softly at her.
