Sawyer
tumblr_myn696khJL1rrndj1o5_r1_250.gif
The rest of school after her little Spanish session with Grace went by a lot faster than she thought it would. By the time school was out and and practices were done, Sawyer was feeling a whole lot more confident about this whole thing. The whole ride home, Sawyer hummed unconsciously under her breath and was still humming when she stepped inside to grab everything she needed.

Oliver gave his daughter a look as she rushed around the house trying to find where she'd put the guitar she'd borrowed from Ryan. But he said nothing and simply pointed to the corner of the room where it was propped up. Sawyer thanked him with a quick hug before rushing out of the house and back to her car. She had to do this fast. There was no telling how long June could keep their parents out of the house and she did not feel like getting caught.

Sawyer's car screeched to a stop outside of the address she'd acquired from June and she cringed at the noise. After sitting there for a few minutes hoping no one had heard the commotion, she hoped out. Guitar in hand Sawyer strode up to the house and glanced up to the one window with a light on. She smiled. Perfect.

Sawyer picked a rock up from the ground and launched it just hard enough that it would lightly tap Grace's window. Three more were thrown until Sawyer felt that was enough and paused to wait for an answer to her rock tossing with baited breath.

Grace walked home, knowing her mother &..David. She almost thought of him as her father. What? No, stop. Shaking her head. She continued walking.

Upon getting home, she went straight to studying. Sawyer helped alot, i mean. Despite the dirty words she learned, which was totally was probably her plan all along. She understood it better.

Getting an alert on her phone, she read the tweets from Sawyer, and Ryder. She rolled her eyes, tempted to reply. But she changed her mind about it. A few minutes later she heard a tap on her window.

She went back to the book convincing herself it was nothing, when it happened the fourth time she knew it had to be something. Closing the book and heading to her window, furrowing her brows when she caught sight of Sawyer.

She opened the window, smiling. Eying the guitar she laughed. “What’s this about?” She asked leaning her elbows on the windowseal.

Mason shrugged. "There's nothing really to say to something stupid like that." He admitted. Despite that, Ari was the best thing that had ever happened to him. Having her had forced Mason to pull his head out of the sand and actually try to get his life together -- and he had... for the most part. Stopped doing drugs and drinking, gotten a decent job, picked up his grades, rose to football captain, and all of it was for him to try and get Ariana back once he graduated from this stupid hell hole. If he could provide her, he'd be able to. It was as simple as that, but with the hospital bills... well, the money he had saved up to get that nice apartment with all of the furniture, clothing, and other toddler supplies he'd need was suddenly a horribly far-fetched idea.

His face twisted into one of annoyance when she mentioned the whole temper thing. "What the hell is that supposed to mean?" He asked, not letting her change the subject. Well, she could try. "Don't have any funny memories or happy moments." All of those were now tainted by Adriane, the damn sly but beautiful bitch. "So tell me what you mean by 'that's why you have a temper.'" And well she was at it, well, Mason might as well pull whatever else he could out of her.

"And tell me your biggest secret. Like, the thing you'd never tell anyone else." Hey, Mason had done just that. Sure, some people knew about Adriane since she'd also gone to Westbrook, but no one knew about Ari. The two of them had kept it on the down low so the only people who knew were those closest to Mason and Adriane. So... Drake, and that was it.

His day had gone by too slowly. Jace had fallen asleep in history, which awarded him embarrassment from the teacher when he threw a ball at his head, and Jace fell out of his chair in horror at what was attacking him. That left him in a fairly annoyed mood for the rest of the day until, finally, he was free from that mind-numbing hell hole of learning and misery. Jace was quick to grab his guitar from the music room, taking a moment to hug it and apologize for leaving it alone all day before he headed home. Again, Ash had driven separately thanks to cheerleading, so the ride home was filled with him just singing along to songs on the radio in the most out of tune, joking voice that he could manage. Once home, he was quick to head inside and make sure his room was clean and that his instruments were perfectly organized. By time he was done scrutinizing the stupid harp and decided that exactly thirty-two degrees from the window was perfect, he could faintly hear a knocking from the front door. Making sure his beanie looked good, Jace headed towards the front door.

He did pause along the way to wink at himself in the mirror and finger gun, and then he finished his casual walk to the door. Jace took in a deep breath, readying himself, and then opened the door with a smile. "Hey, Nova." He grinned, stepping back and opening the door all the way for her to come in. Once she was in, he closed the door after her and then hurried ahead of her to lead her into his bedroom. He was glad Ash wasn't here because he would never hear the end of it with having a girl in his bedroom. "So, uh, what do you want to work on first...?" Okay, that might have been a weird way to word things.

Sawyer

Sawyer smiled up at Grace when she finally made opened the window. Her fingers fiddled nervously with the guitar strings but that was her only give away. She was nervous as hell but she'd always been pretty good at hiding it, a skill that came from acting most probably. But, she couldn't hide the way her heart was pounding stupidly against her ribcage like it had forgotten how to work properly.

"I'm serenading you. Duh." She informed Grace with a smile as her fingers started strumming out the tune Ryan had taught her in preparation for this very moment. Sawyer couldn't be more thankful for that boy. She'd have to tell him later if this went as well as she hoped.

Without saying anything else, Sawyer's mouth started singing on it's own so she just went along with it. She'd chosen possibly the cheesiest song she could've and was only beginning to realise that now, but there was no turning back from this point. Shaking off all the worry that had been nagging her all day, Sawyer just let herself relax and focus on Grace as the song built up and then came to its end. She let the words and guitar cords hang in the air for a moment before speaking again.

"So, I know this is probably super sudden and random but..." Sawyer sucked in a breath. What are you doing? Calm the fuck down, dude. You got this.

"Sorry, fuck. I'm like shaking." She held her hands up in front of her face where they made a show of showing her nervousness. "I know we've only known eachother like two weeks, but I like you a lot. A lot more than I've ever liked anyone, actually. I made Ryan teach me guitar for this." She laughed quietly, "Anyway, I sound like a dork and that was super cheesy and now I'm rambling. Oh my god." Sawyer stopped herself, raising her eyes to meet Grace's and taking another deep breath.

"What I'm trying to say is, Grace Jackson, would you do me the honor of being my girlfriend?" Sawyer snapped her mouth shut to prevent herself from saying anything else stupid as she waited for an answer.

A smile gracefully found Nova's face as Jace pulled the door open, his beanie laying perfectly atop his head, his voice for once not dripping in awkward tension. She noticed this last time too, Jace seemed so much more comfortable and at ease at home, like no worries could touch him and he could just sort of act like himself. And Nova liked it, a lot actually. This super cool, smooth Jace that didn't look like he had a care in the world. Tucking her thoughts away, the brunette stepped through the threshold of the door and followed the blonde to his room, making herself at home as she tossed her backpack next to the couch and carefully set down her guitar before flopping onto the comfy couch, grabbing a pillow and hugging it. "Today was sooo long," She groaned, sitting up to look at Jace with a smile, slightly blushing. The blue eyed boy had told her to make herself comfortable here last time, so... she was.

She could see it on Jace's face that he was unsure of the question he asked, and she couldn't help but giggle a little, a noise she hardly ever made. Jace was just so cute, and somewhat unsure of his words which kinda baffled her. He was so attractive, and he didn't realize that he could probably get away with just about anything. "I have a question for you, Jace West," Nova hummed, moving her legs so that Jace could sit next to her. Jumping right into the lesson wasn't what she was after, she genuinely wanted to get to know Jace a little better. He was cute, and she admitted to herself on the drive over that yeah, she was definitely crushing on the boy in the beanie... at least a little bit.

"It's a very important question to me," Nova sat up a little straighter, brushing some hair from her face as she tried to remain in this faux serious expression with her smile seeping through.

"I need to know your opinions of The Walking Dead."

June
June frowned a little when he seemed to get upset that she pointed out his anger. And she was a little disappointed that he didn’t answer her softer question. “Right. I really mean no offense by it. But. You do have a tendency to be quite...” She tilted her head away. “Angry.” She then quickly waved her hands. “Which is fine sometimes. Everyone can get angry. But your anger leads you into a lot of fights. You honestly seemed pretty scary. However, I think you’re a pretty good person. I just don’t think others see it because they just see the angry you.”

She sighed a little when he asked about her though. “Okay, since you told me yours. I’ll tell you mine. However, it’s still pretty fresh.” She started to twirl her hair as she spoke. “I met a girl named Ruby. I really wasn’t that good at making friends and when I did, they usually took advantage of me. Ruby however, she was genuine. She was quirky, happy, playful. Everything I wanted to be.” She smiled a bit remembering it, their time together. “However, as time grew, we grew apart. We went to different schools. She started to hang around pretty... crazy people. And we barely kept in touch...” She started to play with her hair more and more.

“We did run into each other sometimes. But each time, Ruby acted differently. Like she wanted me to see something. Then one night. I got a text from her. It was long and carefully written and I brushed it off and told her I needed to sleep. The next morning, my mother told me Ruby died. She stole her father’s car and sped off a cliff. The car was ruined. Ruby was dead. The police said it was drunk driving. But...” She stopped pulling her hair and dropped her hand. “It was on purpose.” She let out a breath and looked at him, tears on her face. “I haven’t told a soul yet. You’re the first one actually.” She sniffed and used her sleeve to wipe her eyes. “Okay, I think thats enough for today.” She slid off the table and looked at Mason. “Thank you for telling me. And thank you for listening to me as well.” She said with a smile.

Grace

“Serenading?” She said raising her eyebrows in surprise. It was extremely cheesy, but Grace was the type of person that loved all of that. She completely went quiet watching her sing. Admiring her voice. My god, she was amazing. And it wasn’t just her voice she was talking about. No-one ever did anything like this for her. Ever. She couldn’t say in words what it meant to her.

When the song came to an end, she applauded softly. Smiling, she spoke. “That was amazing.” She said in awe. She let her speak, or at least try to.

She chuckled as she showed her that her hands were shaking. But she didn’t say anything, she just watched her, flustered Sawyer was an amazing sight to see. As she spoke, Grace just thought about her feelings for her. She never felt like this for anyone either. She’s never even had an actual girlfriend before. All of this was new to her. While Sawyer talked, Grace was uncharacteristically quiet.

Her smile grew wider, unaware that it was even possible. When she asked her to be her girlfriend. Her jaw almost dropped in disbelief. She opened her mouth to say something, but decided against it. She quickly closed her window. And rushed downstairs, after fumbling with the door for a few moments. She opened it, and walked outside.

She slowly walked up to her. At this point she didn’t care who saw her, she took the guitar from her and gently set it on the ground. She put her hands on both sides of her face, and pulled her into a kiss.

After a few moments she pulled away, “Yeah, okay. You might just a little bit of a dork.” She admitted chuckling, and shaking her head, “But i really want you to be my dork.” She just gazed at her for a few moments. Until she realized that Sawyer deserved a proper answer.

She knew it was cheesy, but once again. She loved cheesy. “The honor is all mine. I’d love to be your girlfriend

Right. Well, Mason had long ago stopped caring what others thought. He only cared about a few things in life anymore: Drake, money, cigarettes, and getting laid. And that last one wasn't as much a priority now as it once was, although hey, it was still on his mind occasionally. Anyway, yes, he knew he had a habit of jumping to anger. But what was he supposed to do when people were constantly challenging him and getting under his skin? The answer was nothing but fight back.

Mason listened in silence as she spoke, and part way through, he had a feeling of what was going to happen. It was obvious that this was upsetting to Mason and maybe if he felt as if he had any empathy left in his damn body, he would've felt something. However, as June got up to leave, Mason sighed, grabbed her arm, and pulled her back towards him, wrapping his arms around her in a tight hug.

He was a little surprised, yes, at how quickly Nova mad herself at home in his room, but at the same time, it was refreshing to have someone who actually did seem so comfortable here. So in the end, Jace was pleased and was probably jumping for joy like a small child in his head, although none of that outwards emotion showed. Of course, Nova taking up the couch didn't really leave much room for him to sit so he was on his way to his desk chair when Nova mentioned an important question and moved enough that he could sit by her. Jace was hesitant, but still slowly sat next to her, eyeing this strange girl suspiciously as he did so. "Okay..." he said slowly.

Jace had been prepared for some deep, serious question about the meaning of life (his answer was going to be forty-two), but instead, Nova asked him the simplest question to answer, and he had no idea how to respond. "I, uh, don't really watch a lot of television." He admitted, blushing a bit as he thought about the TV he did watch. Ash was obsessed with Grey's Anatomy and sometimes Riverdale and yes, Jace binged those shows with her. But The Walking Dead, well... "I tried and, uh... it scared me when I watched the first episode... I turned it off and had nightmares for like a week afterwards." He mumbled.

Yes, big, cool, handsome, obviously-not-a-jock Jace hated scary things.

Nova's jaw almost dropped when Jace said he didn't watch a lot of TV, her heart sinking a little bit (which was semi pathetic, and she knew that). Although she couldn't help but smile at his next words. Yes, The Walking Dead was freaky, but Nova loved the storyline of it all. She loved the action and the romance and the apocalypse setting, it was all very thrilling to her. But there was something adorable about thinking of a slightly freaked out Jace cringing at the special affects blood spurting from a zombie. "Awww," Nova cooed involuntarily, tilting her head to the side and pushing her lower lip out a little, obviously joking. He was just so cute, she could barely stand it.

"I'm a binge watcher, especially on cold nights," Nova sighed, leaning back into the couch and hugging her knees to her chest, setting her chin on top and peering up at Jace. "Although you have now made it my personal mission to get you through one season of Walking Dead," A wicked smirk sifted onto Nova's soft features, a smile begging to be let through, but she did her best to keep it at bay. She could see it in her head, how cute it would be to be cuddled on his massive couch, blanket around them, popcorn on the arm of the couch while Jace flinched at every hit to a zombie. Nova, of course, would comfort him and pat his beanie and tell him it was okay and- Stop it!

It was becoming more normal, these rants that went on it her head about Jace... not that she minded, it gave her a bit of hope. "So not a TV guy," A sigh left the hazel eyed girl's lips as she cocked her head to the side once more, pursing her lips and looking at the blonde inquisitively. "Well then what're we going to do in between lessons Mr. West?" Flirty Nova was starting to take hold, not in an abrasive way, but more of her own cute, shy way of flirting. Although it was easy with Jace... he made her feel oddly comfortable.

June
June was caught off guard immediately as she felt his hand around her then his body. She didn’t know what to do at first, the only person to really embrace her was her family and Ruby. Then, she felt his warmth and something in her started to crack. It felt like a jar containing a storm had the glass shatter slightly, allowing fragments of storm clouds to rumble her heart.

She put her hands around him and closed her eyes as tears slowly came out. The rain in the storm. She felt bad for getting his shirt wet with her tears, but his embrace felt so nice. She couldn’t help herself. “I’m sorry about your daughter.” It came out in almost a sob. “I’m sorry about Drake too and sending you the hospital.” She shook her head. She was not gonna have a breakdown. But it sure felt like it. “I didn’t want her to die...” She said finally before letting an actual sob out then.

She hated hugs if it meant every time they happened she would just let another storm lose.

Raven, as usual. Walked her way home. But this time she took her time. She wasn’t excited to see her mother. Not even in the slightest bit. Andrea was only her mother, because of biological means. She wasn’t a mother. Never was.

She hesitated outside of her house, her eyes drifted over to the run-down car in the driveway she could only assume was hers. What did she want, money? It had to be. Oh, well. That’s gonna suck for her. They didn’t have any to give.

I mean they did, but that wasn’t enough for whatever she was hooked on this time.

She walked into the house, and as soon as she walked in she saw Andrea. Her mom, for whoever actually wanted to call her that.. It’d been 3 years since she’d saw her last. She didn’t look as bad as last time. But she wasn’t going to hand her the compliment, her eyes scanned the house, looking around for Nancy.

“Where’s the nurse?” Raven asked, Andrea got up from the couch. “No, hello? No, hug?” Her mother, asked. Without answering her question.

Raven didn’t move or speak, but she raised an eyebrow. Waiting for her to answer. Her mother looked hurt. But Raven didn’t care enough to do anything about it. “I sent her home.”

Raven blinked in disbelief. “Why? What was the whole sense of that?” She said throwing her bag near the door, rather harshly. She didn’t really mean to. But perhaps her emotions did it on their own.

“I’m here, i could help now.” She told her. Raven was taken aback. She didn’t say anything for a few seconds, she scoffed.

“You didn’t even know she was sick!” She exclaimed, she shook her head. Frustrated. “Jesus, why are you even here? What do you want?”

“I’m here, because i wanted to be with my family.” She spoke defensively, crossing her arms. “I don’t want anything, is that so hard to believe?”

Raven just stared at her. She already knew her answer, so why even ask if it was believable? “Did Nanc— Did the nurse fill you in on her medications?” She spoke. She didn’t wait for an answer, she knew Nancy probably did. But Andrea wasn’t smart enough to remember. “Forget it.” Her voice hoarse.

Getting some blankets and pillows, she threw it on the couch. It was still fairly early in the day. But she’d rather do this now then talking to her later. “Sorry, i claimed your room 17 years ago.” She didn’t tone down the snark. “You kick the nurse out tomorrow, i kick you out.” Walking into her own room, and closing the door behind her.

Maybe she was being harsh. But this was nothing compared to her level of harsh.

She resided in her room for the rest of the day. Every so often she’d come out to check on her Abuela.

If you could tell Raven this morning, that this day was going to end up going to shit. She wouldn’t of laughed. She would’ve just agreed. She was used to it by now.

Worn hands trembled over a running faucet, fumbling over orange pill bottles, dropping medications into the sink. The water carried the dull colored pills down the drain, washing them away. He didn't want to take his medication anymore. It wasn't helping. He still had the dreams, the flashbacks, the guilt. All of it. No matter what he drank or what he took, the memories were still there, haunting him like ghosts. He couldn't do this anymore. It had gone on for too long, and the man in the mirror couldn't find any relief. There was nothing left for him here. His family had grown distant, his life stagnant. Maybe he wasn't thinking straight anymore, but it was time to go.

He could hear pounding on the bathroom door, wild and frenzied. Panicked even. But he didn't care anymore. He was past that. After tonight it wouldn't matter anymore. There was peace in an ending. Peace in its absoluteness. That's all he really wanted. Peace.

With empty pill bottles scattered across the bathroom counter, the man reached out for the alcohol sitting precariously near the edge. After having taken so many painkillers, he couldn't even feel it's burn as the liquid ran down his throat, settling on a stomach full of pills. His gut was filled with a cocktail of anti-depressants, acetaminophen, and ambian, all mixed together with a healthy dose of alcohol. It wasn't the kind of mix you'd wake up from, not he next morning. Not ever. That was it's purpose though. To finally silence a mind plagued by the past.

If that didn't work, the noose would. It hung still, from a hook screwed into the ceiling. The rope scratched at his unshaven neck as he slipped it over his head, tightening it around his neck. The stool he stood on wobbled, partially from poor craftsmanship, but mostly because the man was shaking...

The pounding on the door was louder now. Whoever was out there must've been throwing their whole weight against the door now, doing whatever they could to break down the heavy wood. He could he yelling. No. Screaming. Terrified screams from a boy who was afraid to be alone. He couldn't understand whatever the boy on the other side of the door was saying, but it wouldn't matter anyways. It was over now.

He kicked the stool away.

His body fell.

The rope pulled at his neck.

His own weight broke his broke his windpipe like it was nothing.

The man thought it would hurt more, but it didn't. For the first time in a long time, he felt in control. As the world started to turn black, the door finally broke inwards...

Through the doorway charged Kanen, desperate to save the only family he had left...

~-~-~-~-~-~-~

Kanen's body snapped awake, joking upwards. His hands shot to his neck, raking his flesh for a rope that wasn't there. His mouth open gasping for breath. His eyes wide with terror.

It took a moment for Kanen to realize it was only a nightmare. The same one he had been having for nearly a year now. Suddenly tears were flowing down his face, flooding over his cheeks and dripping from his chin down into his lap. Sadness turned into anger as his hands balled up into fists, pounding into the steering wheel. A yell slipped past his lips, and then another, snowballing into a tantrum. Soon Kanen felt like he had lost all control, beating down onto the steering wheel and screaming until his vocal chords felt like they would be ripped from his throat. He was so mad at himself. Furious. He hated that he wasn't there sooner, that he couldn't have been there quicker.

He had tried so hard that night, beating on the bathroom door until his fists were bloody, slamming his shoulder into the wood until it was purple and bruised. But in the end it wasn't enough. Despite how hard Kanen had tried to help, it wasn't enough. His dad was dead anyways. He was alone.

So alone.

One night had changed everything for Kanen. He fell apart, pushed everyone away, given up on everything. Following in his father's footsteps, Kanen had crawled into a bottle the next day. He drowned out his own consciousness with copious amounts of scotch. The first time he had every touched a bottle ended up being the last time he felt like himself. Since then, every day felt like he was sinking down deeper, turning into his dad. That's probably what scared him the most.

~-~-~-~-~

Kanen had wiped his eyes, taking time to calm himself down before he got out of his car. He could feel his eyes were still puffy, but a pair of sunglasses worked well enough to hide it. He couldn't just hide in his car. Practice was soon.

A part of Kanen dreaded going to practice now. He was thankful for the visor on his helmet. At least it would cover his face...

"Sounds like a concerned Mum. Or an overly-strict one". Then Rory asked why she was upset. "Oh... my sister's moving to be closer to her boyfriend. Without notice or even a goodbye. And their relationship isn't the best anyways". She reached up to her face and took off her glasses, wiping more tears away. "But I'm glad you're here. I know we barely know each other but... I feel attracted to you. I might not remember much from that night, at the party, but I remember how alluring you are. Also... how drunk was I? We didn't do anything crazy, right? Don't think we did".

"Please don't apologize for any of that." Mason mumbled as he held June in his arms. Hey, he had like half a heart, and he couldn't stand to see people upset. Sure, he dealt with upset people in different ways -- such as hugging June. Either way, he couldn't stand to hear someone apologize for his own mistakes and stupidity, as if he deserved some kind of sympathy for the pain that he'd brought upon himself. "I'm sorry for Ruby." Mason wondered if she blamed herself for it at all since Ruby had called her that fateful night, and he had a feeling that the answer was a very depressing yes.

---------

Despite his obvious inability to practice football, Mason was still there at practice. He wasn't going to give up being football captain without a fight, and he was hoping maybe he could just encourage the team from the sidelines. He'd be like a little miniature coach, and then maybe, just maybe, he could still get that scholarship that he greedily had his eye on. Mason hadn't given up hope completely yet, despite typically being a terribly big pessimist about everything.

At first when he saw Kanen coming over, Mason was ready to cuss him out or something. And then he noticed the sunglasses, which left him puzzled, and then he realized that Kanen was not okay. Hey, they had been best friends for years, and Mason could still catch on to those little things. So he decided to keep his anger to himself for the time being and see what the hell was going on with him.

Mason crutched his way over to Kanen. "Dude, you look like shit." Ah, what a start. "Come over here. We need to talk." He said, gesturing with his head before starting to crutch a few feet away from the gathering group readying themselves for practice. It wasn't perfect solitude, but it would be far enough away that no one would be able to hear them.

Jace had a very different outlook on the whole "watching a season of The Walking Dead." First off, he'd blushed a bit at her aww since he wasn't particularly proud about the whole being scared thing, but that had quickly faded when she'd mentioned the whole watching a season. The way Jace viewed it would him trying to be manly, but ultimately getting sick to his stomach, and hiding under a blanket for the majority of the show -- basically any time there excessive blood and gore. And if he was denied the basis human right to a blanket, then he would simply pull his beanie down over his eyes and triumphantly sit there, singing songs in his head to calm him while dredging through the terrifying, bloody hell that was the first season of that show.

His own little scenario faded as Nova asked what they would be doing between lessons, and he shrugged, not getting that this was a flirtatious move in the least bit. You didn't even need fingers to count the number of times Jace had been flirted with (hint: it was zero), although now you probably needed one for Sybil, although he had been blissfully unaware of her advances. "Well, lessons won't go super long. Like an hour at most. And usually I let the other kids I teach get like a five minute water break halfway through, so that's all you'll probably get, too." Jace said thoughtfully and a very logically, un-flirtatious manner because right now, he was all business.

He really was impossible. Nova could feel this small smile of just pure adoration filing onto her lips as she listened to Jace explain the structure of their lessons, and even she couldn't tell if she felt semi-defeated due to his lack of flirtatious behavior or just confused as to whether or not the blonde even knew that she was flirting. She guessed the latter of course, seeing as what she had observed of Jace and Sybil, she had hardly any faith that Jace knew how to flirt with a girl, let alone receive the hint that one was flirting with him. Now no, Nova wasn't a headstrong, abrasive flirt, but she was really trying her best here. "You have no idea that I'm flirting with you huh?" Nova chuckled a bit, releasing her knees and leaning back into the arm of the couch, leaving her legs bent as she looked down and fiddled with her thumb ring before looking back up at Jace. He was so innocent and aloof, and something about that drove Nova crazy. She didn't think it was a superiority complex, the guy didn't seem like the type, he was just genuinely unaware. Not that the brunette could blame him, she used to be the same way.

Sitting up a little more, Nova nodded towards his windows out towards the cars. "Or like the other day, Sybil was hardcore flirting with you. Like very obviously. I thought you two were a thing before I realized that you didn't know how bad she was flirting with you," A blush fell onto her cheeks then as she tucked a piece of hair back, deciding that maybe it was time to shut up. She didn't want to accidentally go into a rant and ruin this for herself, but she couldn't have kept it in any longer. Hopefully her statement would either make Jace slightly happy, or worst case scenario, she would be asked to leave... she hoped for the first option.

June
She did not expect today to turn out like this. But, she did feel a little lighter. A skip in her step almost. She never knew how nice it felt to let something off your chest and be comforted as well. She started to walk back home and checked her phone to see that Sawyer plan was still going along swimmingly. Yeah, her parents weren’t home. However it had her curious. Maybe they are good friends to go through such lengths? She placed her phone back in her pocket and saw Grace’s house ahead. Somehow, the walk wasn’t all that bad this time.

She saw two figures however and started to slow herself. As she got closer there was no denying it was Sawyer and Grace. She frowned a little confused and got even closer. Then, she saw the two lean in and kiss each other. June was immediately thrown for a loop and couldn’t help, but watch it unfold. She had a small idea that maybe Grace could be into Sawyer. But now it confirmed it. And now she understood the meaning of the whole plan. And perhaps she had ruined it as well.

Grace was rather occupied, brushing a few strands of hair out of Sawyer’s face. She noticed someone off to the side and her heart immediately dropped. It was June. How long had she been standing there? It doesn’t matter the way this looked..i don’t think there was anyway she could’ve convinced her that they were friends. She dropped her hands off to the side. “I’ll uh, be back.” Grace walked over to where June was, nervously wringing her hands together.

“Hey.” She greeted, she didn’t know how to go about this. They lived together. What if June told her mom before she did? “So you saw that..whole.” She trailed off and nodded. “Yeah, okay.” She took a deep breath. “June, nobody knows.” Grace tried to explain. “Not yet. I don’t want anyone to know for now.” She told her, silently praying her not-sister wouldn’t tell anyone.

Yep, Jace had had no clue she was flirting with him. His eyes widened as realization hit him, and everything seemed to live together... And he felt stupid. "I... uh... no, I didn't know..." That was the understatement of the century. Right now, Jace's thoughts pretty much resembled that scene from Inside Out where the boy bumps into Riley, and then all his emotions panic and just repeatedly yell "Girl!" while the boy sits there in quiet shock. Yeah, definitely what was happening. And was it even possible for him to blush more? Apparently so as his cheeks reached a new shade of rosy.

When she mentioned Sybil flirting, Jace found himself confused, until it was like a lightbulb lit up over his head. That explained so much. "Oh, is that why she asked me to serenade her?" And here Jace thought it was just some kind of... well, he hadn't really known what to think of it, but certainly hadn't expected it to be flirting. Wow. Here Jace went from having no girls liking him to two thinking he was just the bee's knees. However, now that the initial shock had earn off, confusion flooded Jace's features. "Wait, what the heck? When did girls start crushing on me? When did I get desirable?"

Kanen wanted to be left alone, to just get through practice and just spend the rest of his day down at he boardwalks or something. He caught sight of Mason hobbling his way across he field, looking like some sort of alien as he lurched forward on his crutches. Kanen didn't really care, not until Mason started coming towards him anyways.

"Listen buddy, you can go right ahead, and fuck off. I haven't go jack-shit to say to you." Kanen practically snarled, sidestepping past the cripple to take a seat on the bleachers. He tried to go as quick as he could as he pulled his shoulder pads over his chest and tightened things down. He just wanted to have his helmet on before anyone else on the team made it out to the field.

At this point, Kanen just wanted to get up and go. Sprints, drills, plays, whatever. He just wanted to blow off steam, even if it left him puking on the sidelines. He felt like he just had to do something before his chest blew up or something.

Laughter instantly broke out from Nova's lips, her hands going to her stomach as she watched Jace discover a whole new world that he (somehow) hadn't noticed before. Did he really think that girls didn't like him? That he was just 'the music guy'? C'mon, every teenage girl loves a musical man... especially when they look all cute and wonderful like beanie boy beside her did. She couldn't help but notice just how cute he was right here, with her cheeks flushed a light crimson and his eyes flickering as if he was trying to understand the space-time continuum. Although, with the mention of Sybil asking him to serenade her, she shrunk back just the slightest bit. Sybil was much more forward and headstrong than Nova was, she could tell that much by the first time she met her, and Nova well... she was more of a 'give a cookie and hope it works' kinda gal. But even with that trait, she was proud of herself for even bringing up the whole flirting debacle with Jace.

Another wave of laughter came when she saw the blonde's eyes widen, his mouth spewing questions and his body softening a bit. He really was clueless. "Seriously?" Nova laughed again, shaking her head and running her fingers through her hair, gesturing around the room and finally to Jace. "You're an insanely talented guy who has the heart to want to teach people about music. You have instant artist factor which is working in your favor and-" Nova cut herself off, debating her next words which she wanted to choose carefully. She wanted more time, which she didn't have, so instead, she settled for the first thing that came to mind. Looking up, meeting hazels to blues, Nova sighed.

"And it helps that you aren't bad looking Jace... at all."

Mason stopped mid crutching away. Well, it seemed like even with no alcohol in his system, Kanen was still the same thick-headed, stubborn dick that Mason found almost intolerable. Almost, because he knew he was the same in a lot of ways, especially when it came to talking. Anyway, he slowly turned himself around to glare at Kanen. Yes, he missed his best friend. But no, he wouldn't tell Kanen that or get all mushy. If that made sense, which it barely did to Mason.

"Of course because you're big, tough ass Kanen. Can't accept help from anybody and just treat everyone like shit, and yet for some fucked up reason people at this school still care about you." It pissed Mason off that Kanen had so many that cared when he was such a shitty person to everyone. When Kanen had broken his leg, no one had sympathized with Mason except for June. Everyone had been on Kanen's side, and many had even gone as far as to blame Mason for the whole encounter.

He hated people.

"Look you're in a pissy mood -- no surprise -- but it's obvious you're fucking upset. So which bitch do you want me to call to come comfort you?" Mason had seen the girls that had tried to talk to Kanen. "What about the new little brunette? Fucking Nova or something? Or I could Ash. That bitch is all about the Kanen show for some fucked up reason." Mason knew Ash had convinced her dad not to send Kanen to jail. Even more special treatment for him.

He had discovered a whole new world. A whole new, beautiful place where he maybe he could finally kiss a girl. Yes, Jace, eighteen-year-old, senior in high school, obviously super confident Jace had never kissed a girl. What a surprise, right? But maybe now he could actually do that stuff before college. After all, there was a perfectly gorgeous girl sitting on his couch, in his bedroom, who thought he was attractive and worthy. This was probably the best, most eye-opening day of Jace's life. But before he could truly appreciate it, he needed to handle Nova.

Jace's blue-green eyes snapped back to Nova, watching as she described everything that made him... well, him, and how it was attractive. And here he thought he'd always given off more of the awkward band geek guy vibe who was almost too obsessed with music. "I... umm..." Jace awkwardly rubbed the back of his neck, and then his hands trailed to that signature yellow beanie of his. "Thanks, I think." His blush had faded until she mentioned him being attractive.

"Well, umm, does that mean you... like me? As in like like me?" Jace asked, his eyes awkwardly flicking to the ground and then back to her. "Because I might also think you are... you are amazing... and beautiful... And, uh," ooh, this was hard and his stomach was churning a million miles a minute, and his mouth felt dry, all as he managed the last part. "I might have a crush on you."

He had just about pulled his helmet over his head when Mason started talking shit. Like a Jack-in-the-box, Kanen practically sprung up onto his feet, walking over to Mason and shoving his helmet into his chest. "Here, put this on, and we can talk it out on he field!" Kanen snapped."Oh? Yeah. You're just some fucking cripple, and in a month no one here will remember your fucking name! Take your gimp-ass leg and walk the fuck away, Mason."

Yeah, Kanen had probably gone a bit too far, but Mason probably could've expected that. Kanen didn't like talking about things, he never had. It was easier to lash out at people and push everyone away than to just man up and talk things out. Of course, when you've got two stubborn boys like Kanen and Mason that can be a bit of an issue.

It didn't seem like it was before though. Being stubborn had worked before they had grown distant. Kanen had been too determined to let Mason sulk, and vice versa. But now, Kanen was just too damn stubborn to let things go. Besides, things couldn't be the same now. Not when Kanen may have just ruined Mason's life Monday afternoon.

Now it was Nova's turn to be rosy in the cheeks, her butterflies fluttering in hope of escape, though she managed to suppress her giddiness just enough .She couldn't hide the smile on her face though, and she knew that she wouldn't be able to. He really hadn't done this before, and it was quite obvious. His nerves were ticking, she could see the anxious expression on his face, even as she complimented the brunette. What she didn't expect was to be called beautiful, this being the second guy at Westbrook to have given her the pleasure, but it was still something she struggled to see. But before she could answer his question, she had to think... if just to make the already nervous boy tick just a little more. Although as she tilted her head and rocked it side to side, as if thinking, she knew she couldn't keep the act up for long. "Of course I like you, Jace," She chuckled, slightly nudging him with her foot, the fox socks she was wearing stretching a bit. "Think back to any TV drama you may or may not have watched like... like Riverdale," Yes, she was guilty of liking the show too. "Do you think I would've asked to come over to your place for a second time if I didn't think you were the sweetest guy? Or if I didn't have a massive crush on you?" Now maybe the last part she didn't mean to say. The sound of 'massive crush' was something that she feared would scare her fragile beanie boy away. She quietly shut her mouth, pressing her lips together. If anything, maybe it would make Jace relax a little? He had to find some ease in knowing that all this time, while he was being himself, is when Nova began to like him.

The brunette shuffled nervously in her seat now, sitting up and criss-crossing her legs, hands resting on her ankles and hair slightly falling in front of her face. "But, to answer your question," She sighed, giving the blonde a gentle smile as she nodded her head. "Yes, I like like you."

Mason glared at him, almost stumbling back when Kanen thrust the football helmet at him. "If you think I became football captain just so everyone would know my name," he said, his voice quiet as he spoke through gritted teeth, "then obviously you never really knew me." He crutched backwards away from Kanen, and turned towards the coaches.

"Hey, I'm heading home. Can't do much, obviously, and Drake's still sick. Want to check on him before work." Yeah, after visiting Stu and Mason in the hospital, Drake had slipped back under his blankets and not moved. It took so much to get Drake to eat or drink anything, and he knew from experience that this depressive episode could last at least two weeks. At least.

Mason turned to look at Kanen, amber eyes narrowed at him in annoyance. "Everyone might forget who I am, but at least I'll never be some stuck up asshole like you. I'll never treat people who just want to help me like shit." And with that final sentence, Mason turned and started the long walk towards his apartment, all the while still fuming.

Jace was so nervous he thought he might just puke as Nova considered the possibility of whether or not he was worthy of her affection. Finally, when she admitted to liking him, too, all the nerves flushed away to leave him both exhilarated, and still a bit flustered. Oh god. Seasons of dramas hadn't prepared him for this moment and when she mentioned Riverdale, he realized he still had no idea what to do.

"I thought you just really liked music and guitars, too, and just wanted to learn!" Jace admitted, his voice a terrible squeak that he was not proud of as he said so. Hey, other girls had wanted the same thing, and they had just wanted-- ... Oh. Oh maybe they had also been crushing on Jace, and he'd been too naive and stupid to notice. Wow. Jace could've been playing the field all this time, not that he would've.

He was quiet at this new revelation, lacing his hands together in his lap and looking down, biting the inside of his cheek as Jace carefully thought about this whole thing. "So uh... what do we do now...?" Jace had known how to handle the situation as friends, but now?

"I do really like guitars and want to learn, I wasn't lying about that," Nova cooed, her figure softening as she realized that Jace was going to be okay with what she had just said. He was still nervous, which was expected. This was his first time doing anything like this, and honestly, Nova didn't mind feeling sort of 'in-charge' of the progression. If anything, she was at ease knowing that Jace most likely wasn't going to push her into anything, and that was more relieving than anything she had experienced since she moved out to this weird, ocean-side town.

She couldn't help but chuckle as she watched realization hit Jace's face as he thought about the previous girls who wanted guitar lessons (for other reasons) and bit the corner of her lip, trying not to be too loud as the blonde processed this newfound experience. Nova knew that she and Sybil couldn't have been the first girls to hit on Jace, and part of her felt bad for all the girls before that had attempted to gain his affection. The poor, clueless guitar player, just thinking that several girls wanted to play guitar... oh honey. Then came the question... what did they do now? Even Nova didn't really know, they hadn't known each other long enough to solidify anything (obviously) but it was out in the open now that they both had some semblance of feelings for each other. So, she went with her gut.

"Now we get to know each other more," She nodded, sitting up straight just to prove that she was sure of herself. "I don't know much about you, Jace West. Other than the fact that you seem like you've got a kind heart, a talent for music and a cute face," Nova couldn't help but wink as she nudged him again, wanting him to relax around her more than anything. "And," She cooed her addition, soft as she scooted a little closer to Jace, gently pushing some hair back from his face to see his eyes before dropping her hand and smiling at him. "You get to calm down a bit. I like you, Jace. You don't have to worry about being awkward or saying the wrong thing around me. I'm awkward and say the wrong things too sometimes. Now we can just do that together." Nova was beaming as she took a deep breath, the big cardigan she was wearing had fallen off of one shoulder, and she even looked more at ease, not having this on her chest anymore. Now she just hoped that Jace actually wanted to get to know her instead of going out and finding the girls who had been pining after him before.
