Just as Aaron thought he would have to abandon the door to the infected, as they were starting to get in from the barred alley enterance, a screech of tires cut through the groans of the dead. A military truck now loomed at one of the enterances to the alley, blocking out some light. It took a second for Aaron's eyes to adjust to the dimmer light; he could still see, but colors were distorted and darker. Aaron tried to look for those on the truck, but the sun was in his eyes. Barely audible over the infected, a whisper called out to him asking if he was infected. Before he answered, a man walked up to the door and lightly tapped his knuckles on it. "No," he replied to the woman's voice, and then added "I think the door has noise suppression foam on the inside of it or somethi-" and then the door opened. The gap in the wall revealed a handless man in military clothing, a ginger-haired woman, and a well-built man. The handless man immediately walked over to the other military personnel on the truck, while the ginger-haired woman stopped to ask him a question, and the other man just... stood there. The woman from the truck, who introduced herself as "Doctor Evelynne Volga", approached him. Just as another voice quietly called from behind, asking if he was alive or not. Aaron turned his body to the side so he could face both people, and realized that the infected had cleared out of the other enterance of the alley. Aaron acknowledged the other man, who was poking out from behind a wall. He seemed to have some sort of shoulder injury as well as a handgun. Adwin
answered with a definite "Alive.”

Cpl. Gerben 'Kerberos' Schwartz

Army Compound 4, Mitten District

Mood Music

Gerben was asleep when a shot sounded in the distance and soon more shots could be heard. He shook awake as the distant shots rang out and the radio came alive broadcasting the alert that the zeds had broken through. The zeds had broken through. The alarm went immediately after, not that it was necessary as they were all awake, and everyone jumped from their beds to gear up. Whilst they were busy their CO walked in. "Full on combat gear men! We're going to be the ones cleaning up this mess, again!" Captain Messer yelled at them. They knew better than to question his orders and put everything on, armor, gas masks, everything that complemented their full gear. The distant shooting became more intense but then began to disappear and the sound was replaced by distant screams and alarms going off. Gerben felt like he was about to puke but he steeled himself as he secured his gas mask and ran over to their armory. Him and the rest of his unit armed themselves rather quickly with their personal weapons, sidearms and some carried an extra shotgun for those who had to bring the flamethrowers, Gerben being one of those carrying an extra shotgun.

When they came outside the compound was quite deserted with quite some of the vehicles already gone. "Probably already responding to the situation." Their captain said. "Figures, as they never seem to bother to call us in before the situation has gotten bad. Mount up men!" They took the last remaining vehicles and moved out in the direction of the radio station as it seemed the first breach was in that area. It didn't take long before they were bogged down by survivors running away from the hordes close behind. Everyone except the gunners and drivers dismounted and formed a firing line. "What do we do with the wounded sir?" One of the men called out. "They know where the hospital is." The captain replied before cursing and shouting out. "Civilians have 5 seconds to get out of the way before we open fire!" Gerben's eyes widened upon hearing that, they were to fire into the crowd? "Sir? But what about-" He started to ask before the captain yelled out. "5 seconds have passed! OPEN FIRE!"

Instinct took over when he noticed how close the zeds had gotten with the crowd of survivors as their cover. The civilians and even some wounded soldiers seemed as if they were about to beg them not to do it but the drumming and noise of automatic weapons firing blurred any other sound for Gerben. At first it were scared eyes that stuck with him as the light left those eyes but soon after only a sea of empty eyes stared back as the horde shuffled forward. He knew everyone was scared to the bone but if they faltered now they would all die. Bullets flew, grenades exploded, fire was blown straight into the horde and machine guns spew bullets like there was no tomorrow. If it wasn't for the gas masks they would be suffocating now with all the smoke and stench. The horde was dealt with and they moved up to the crossing, it was there that they saw that their situation was way worse than they anticipated. The gate at the Alexanderplatz was open wide, blown open as it seemed. "This is no mere breach, this was an act of terrorism!" The captain called out from his hatch in the IFV. "S-sir! We got trouble!" Somebody else called out.

There were zombies coming from multiple locations, in force and there were clearly specials among their numbers. Most notable was the lack of gunfire coming from all around them, there was the occasional shooting and explosions but nothing indicating the army was fighting and they certainly had the numbers to deal with this situation. "Get ready men! Fight as hard as you can!" The captain bellowed as the unit split up in smaller parts to face the multiple locations the zeds were coming from, all around them. There were calls for help coming over the military radio but they were simply unable to respond. There was only death on the menu, either theirs or the zeds, but likely a strong mix of both. The sound of the fighting was deafening but they managed to hold the line against the hordes. They were prepared to die right here, right now if it meant thinning the herd significantly. His buddy with a flamethrower had just emptied his tank into the horde and threw off the flamethrower and nudged Gerben. "I need the shotgun!" the private yelled over the noise. Gerben reached for the shotgun when an odd sound made him instinctively drop to the ground.

Then the explosion happened. He didn't know what caused it but it knocked most of his unit off their feet and the IFV and the captain were a burning wreck. The other vehicles took most of the explosion impact and were also in a terrible shape with most inside dead. With the lack of machine guns or motorized vehicles the outcome became very bleak but they still had to fight. Whoever was left gathered themselves and continued fighting the zeds but it was less effective as they just missed the firepower and numbers to keep all fronts going. "We have to pick one side and all go that way, it's our only chance!" He yelled to his comrades and as they came over to him to talk over which side to take when the IFV's ammo hold started to cook off. Rounds blew through the rest of his unit but also flew into the horde on one side. He... He was the only one left... Again... He fell back against the side of the truck he was behind and just sat there sobbing to himself as he began to lose his cool.

Wolfgang holsters his gun. He realize he is not at an ideal situation too be holding up a loaded fire arm, and he has a dislocated shoulder.

“I’m gonna approach you, I’m going to recommend you enter that building. The dead are starting to frenzy. Unless being eaten alive is your kink.” He says, using sarcasm to mitigate the pain in his shoulder.

“I also should warn you Im holstered. Though it wouldn’t be wise to take my gun from me” He now approaches the door

“I see we have another physician.” He scans the rest of the group “some military as well.” He then simply lowers his guard. “Lucky you, I am a mix of both” he then motions to the doctor lady “ I’d recommend you let us in, shut the door, and lock it”

Just as he says lock it he hears a big boom

“I feel like my point hasn’t now been justified”

Aurora chewed on her bottom lip as her question wasn't answered. Harris seemed a bit out of it but then again he had lost quite a bit of blood. She would just have to keep a close eye on him for now. It was on her to deal with him if the time came. But it was best not to think about the possibility of having to physically end someone's life. What was their next move? Well for starters they should probably get on the truck so they could get out of there before the situation got more difficult. The longer they stood around the lower their chance of surviving became. As she started to move towards the truck a loud-mouthed male started barking orders at them. He had an air of cockiness about him that she wasn't too fond of. The way he just assumed she was a doctor and spoke against the lieutenant's orders. A classic example of men's superiority complex.

"Sorry to burst your bubble but that plan is suicide. I'm going to stick to the lieutenants' plan but go knock yourself out" Aurora said as she climbed onto the back of the truck. Hopefully, some of these other survivors had more sense than him. Now that the Z-virus was spreading around the inner walls this was the most dangerous place to be. There were thousands and Thousands of people living within the walls and almost all of those people will now be infected. That is a lot of zombies in an enclosed space. That's not even counting the infected that flooded in and will continue to flood in for food. Best case scenario if they stayed they would be stuck in a house until they starved to death.

"Well? Is everyone just gonna stand around and wait for the dead to come knocking or what?" Aurora asked, keeping her eyes on Harris. Her mind was still zipping around working out what percentage chance he had of survival. Should she mention the fact that he was bitten to the others? She wasn't sure but if he and mystery guy weren't then oh well.

Aaron took a deep breath, lots of people had shown up suddenly without warning. The newest person, military physician dude, who had yeeted the infected out of existence, was trying to get everyone inside the room with the really strong door. Maybe Aaron missed a sound, nevertheless he must not know what these things do, because the truck and door made noise, infected like noise. Simple, easy to learn, forget this detail and prepare for death. Lucky everyone, luck is on their side. An explosion! Aaron flinches, then looks around to see if anyone saw him flinch to a pretty normal sound nowadays...

As short and succinct as Aaron could make it, he states his position on the matter “Infected are drawn towards noise because that’s where the food is. You all heard that explosion, right? So while the infected go there, we should move in the opposite direction.”

Keeping her pace brisk, Jolie kept her backpack hoisted up and double checked her rifle to ensure it was fully loaded. She was lucky enough to not encounter any humans yet. Maybe that was a bad thing but the thought of being captured by the Military made her feel cold.

She'd rather be out here, on the outskirts, making her own way. Encountering the occasional small group of undead was as close to finding a human at this point. Jolie hoped that there were some survivors, and that they'd be considerate. Well she had supplies and spare consumables available to trade and spare ammunution. Surely she'd be able to barter in exchange for something beneficial for her. Maybe shelter. Jolie hadn't slept for a day now, her makeshift camp destroyed by undead when she was out attempting to hunt. Regardless, Jolie continued on through the wrecks that were the outskirts of Berlin.

It's been an hour since Niklaus, the radio host of the wall, triggered the emergency warning message and a lot has happened. For one, the radio host witnessed Lt.Harris self-inflicting an amputation and 'rescued' (or more let in) Aurore Sterling inside the radio room after a desperate cry for help. While trying to find weapons within the small space, outside the door, a young Aaron rushed for aid in vain. He was ambushed by an injured Wolfgang that somehow held a gun, questioning his current health status with impatience.

Luckily for him, Dr. Evelynn Volga, with the help of two unnamed soldiers, travelled upwards to avoid the southern wave of living dead and picked up any survivors. Their military SUV grabbed the attention of everyone present and Dr.Volga urgently invited all survivors!

Lt.Harris, recognizing the relative safety of coming out, accepted (without really questioning their motives) and took a seat. Both Aurora and Niklaus followed.

Aurora, the bomb expert, asked if they could grab her explosive supplies at the lab past west Alexanderplatz but her question was slightly muted with the commotion coming from that very same direction.

Wolfgang suggested to go back inside the radio station, to lock themselves up. Aurora immediately called out on the suicidal plan and looked at Lt.Harris, implying she would follow his lead. Growing impatient, she urged for a decision to be made. Aaron mentioned how the loud noises could be a distraction since the dead were attracted by it, from his observation... so, he unclearly suggested to go on the opposite direction.

Meanwhile, Jolie is wandering in old, infested streets of Berlin.

Niklaus nodded in agreement, "I agree with Aurora. I'm following Lt.Harris..." he pointed nervously. He's eyes could not stare longer than a second. "He... he looks like he knows what he's doing." he simply said as he looked down at the ground before gripping the side of the back of the SUV and pulled himself up with no other words. He found himself a free spot, sat down and looked down at the ground. He's hands rubbing each other and he folded himself.

Lt.Harris closed his eyes and nodded. He looked down at his hand and huffed. "Those who want to follow are welcome. We're going that way to get Dr.Sterlings arsenal and some supply from the Lab... Maybe we can even save some soldiers. They seem to be having quite a fight." he said with his grave voice. He looked at both his underlings before climbing inside the car. "Whoever wants to follow, follow. If not, get the fuck out our way!" One of the unnamed soldier took the wheel once more and brought the engine back to life!

Luckily for them, this was a big ass truck and they could squeeze in quite a few in the back. Lt.Harris looked at the approaching mass of living dead and tapped the front dash, "Ok, let's go!"

**So, both of these characters are NPCs! So, that means any of you guys could assume their dialogues/behaviours/decisions from past post. Try and stay consistent with them. Of course, that shouldn't be much problem if you keep reading everyones post (like you are supposed to). They are just devices to move forward the story and fill in the spots! I will be making a new character soon :3**

Keeping her pace brisk, yet being wary, Jolie continued on through the deserted outskirts. A few abandoned houses caught her attention; maybe she could scavenge for a few more supplies or recuperate for a time. While there was plenty of sunlight left, Jolie knew she'd need somewhere to sleep since she'd struggle to battle fatigue this night. Heading inside the closest house, stirring up clouds of dust, Jolie made sure to cover her lower face with one of her cloths in case her dust allergy flared up. The house seemed dark and barren, despite the amount of sunlight beaming in through the cracked windows.

It'd been ten minutes when Jolie decided to get going, finding barely anything. She decided to keep on going, risking burning daylight to get further into the city. Zipping up her backpack as she made her way out, she was careless and got her foot caught against some fallen wood, making her fall over and hit the ground hard. She yelped, the noise being muffled by the cloth, as she landed on her stomach, dropping her bag and her glasses falling off her face and landing somehere close by her. Not only was she almost blind without her glasses, the worst part was that she'd fired a few rounds from her rifle by accident, squeezing the trigger as she fell, the bullets hitting the eroding wall. Feeling around for her glasses, Jolie heard a daunting sound that lingered close by.

Undead.

Wolfgang sighs. He assumed the status of this female in front of him. “Probably the adrenaline” He states in his head.

“Sorry bout that, I assumed so since I’m currently dislocated” he points to his shoulder. He looks at the door, then to the truck. He sighs and debates his odds from a strong door, to a truck with a bunch of personnel. He just about opens his mouth to speak when he hears a large boom
“Motherfuck. That must be out military. Looks like the zeds have overrun them. I guess I’ll fancy my chances with the truck” he says and, albeit clumsily, mantles the truck. He sets his gun down and positions his dislocated arm.arm.

“Help me please” He motions to one of the soldiers. He gives brief instructions to the soldier who came to his aid and soon his arm is now relocated.

“Well that’s better.” He says in deadpan. He motions the soldier off and picks his gun up.

Cpl. Gerben 'Kerberos' Schwartz

Intersection near Alexanderplatz, Mitten District

Mood Music

Gerben was almost deep down in the proverbial rabbit hole when a different sound woke him from his shock. A shot, close by, followed by another shot, and another, and a scream for help. He snapped back to reality and jumped back to his feet. The IFV had stopped cooking off and was only burning off fuel now acting like a big beacon for any zombies in the area. Speaking of zombies, they had gotten quite close and some were already shambling among the wrecks towards whoever was still up and fighting nearby. He steadied his grip on his rifle before he swung around the truck and in almost machine-like fashion weaved between the wreckage whilst downing zombies with headshots and firing a second round into the head again to confirm the kill. He found the source of the screams and gunfire, two of his comrades whom are both down on the ground, one fighting back against a zombie that tries to maul him and the other seemingly tripped over something whilst trying to get away from a special. Gerben shot several rounds into the special and confirmed the kill before kicking the mauling zombie in the head full force to get it off the soldier before he fired two rounds into its head. He looked down at the soldier who he just saved from a mauling but he saw that it was already too late as the soldier had been bitten and clawed at in several places.

"S-sir, please help..." The soldier named Bertrand begged as his arm holding an empty pistol fell to the ground.
"I'm sorry Bertrand." Gerben replied as he took out his sidearm without hesitation and aimed at Bertrand's head.
"No wait-!" Bertrand called out before the shot rang out and he fell limp with panic in his eyes.

There was a moment of silence before the sounds of the apocalypse came back to him. Gerben wanted to scream but at the same time he just stood there with a face of steel as he deep down already knew Bertrand was only going to be a liability and a threat. The other soldier, Lukas, got up and rushed to Bertrand's corpse. Zombies were still coming their way and Gerben killed a few more whilst Lukas closed Bertrand's eyes.

"What the fuck is wrong with you sir?!" Lukas yelled at Gerben with clear anger in his voice.
"I put him out of his misery before he would become a health hazard." Gerben replied calmly as he fired the last round from his rifle and replaced the clip with a full one.
"How do you make a split second decision like that man?!" Lukas yelled at Gerben again but now more clearly grieving than angry.
"It's life or death out here Lukas, time is very precious." Gerben said as he began killing more zombies in a calm calculating manner. "Now grab his dog tags and any ammo he has on him and cover the rear."
"Yes sir." Lukas replied hesitantly before he did as Gerben asked.

Gerben then emptied his clip one shot at a time, most of them finding their mark before reloading and making sure he stuffed the empty clips into his hip bag. It was then that he looked sideways at the driver side window of one of the wrecked trucks. The head of the driver leaned against the window but there was condensation by her mouth, the same kind that appears when someone repeatedly breathes on a car window. He made sure his sectors were safe enough from zombies before trying to open the door, of course it wouldn't budge but it seemed to slightly wake the soldier inside up. He then climbed up on the hood of the truck and kicked the already damaged windshield out of the frame. He check his sectors again and fired off a few rounds to kill some zombies that were getting closer, he also heard Lukas firing off his weapon as zombies came from the other side as well now. He tossed a HE grenade well over the truck in a direction that Lukas wasn't at and then entered the driver's cabin of the truck. He positioned himself well and then proceeded to kick the door open from the inside whilst the loud booming sound rang through the air of the HE frag going off. It took a few good kicks but the door finally budged and he climbed out again. More zombies were getting closer and he tossed another HE frag in the direction of a small horde that was forming and fired off some rounds into loose zombies before the explosion came and sent zombie limbs and gore flying. He then swung open the cabin door fully and dragged the barely conscious driver out of her seat, her leg was clearly broken. He now recognized her, Annika, quite a fresh recruit when the whole apocalypse started but as tough as they all come.

"Lukas! Get a field splint on Annika's left leg, now!" Gerben called out to Lukas.

Lukas came sprinting over and began applying a splint to Annika's broken leg whilst Gerben kept watch and killed zombies that got too close to their little wreckage fort. As soon as Lukas was done splinting Annika's leg he went back to his position of covering the rear. Gerben deemed the situation safe enough for now to quickly use the truck's radio to get in contact with anybody who could help them. It was still working but there was little radio traffic anymore but he tried his luck anyway.

"This is Kerberos to any units near Alexanderplatz, break." He began his transmission. "We are in need of exfil, break. We're at the intersection directly west, break. Three soldiers, one wounded, none infected, break. We can hold out but not for long, over." He sighed as he stopped the transmission and waited for any reply when something else came through. "All units in district Mitten, this is captain Jäger, break. Containment efforts have failed, repeat, containment efforts have failed, break. Disengage if possible and get to safety with whatever and whomever you can, break. Berlin is lost, repeat, Berlin is lost, break. This message will repeat for as long as we're-" And then the transmission just drops. Gerben frantically checks the radio but it is working just fine, something must've gone wrong on their end. He banged the top of the dashboard before getting out, arming the now conscious Annika with her own sidearm and taking position to hold this position until someone could come get them out of here or until they end up overrun, probably the latter with how today is going.

Aaron sighed, while going to help the military with a problem the best couldn’t fix was nice, he was more interested in saving his own ass. Especially when most of the world thought his ass, with body attached, was the main course. He blinked. Then looked inside the truck and did a talk with everyone. “The explosion came from the gates in the Alex right? Ok, I’ll try to meet you guys there, probably on the outside.” The driver of the vehicle looked at him out of the corner of his eye, said not a word, and revved the engine. Aaron scooted around them and ran across the street into another alley.

The gun he scooped up from Hank’s corpse bounced uncomfortably against his chest in the sash, so he held it while running. God he hoped it worked. It seemed fine on the outside, but the earlier detonation may have messed around with the inside. Aaron knew how to operate firearms, but didn’t have the knowledge to open one and fix it.

He emerged on an empty street and looked to the Alex. He could see a bit of it from where he was, he wasn’t keen to go near though. A plume of smoke was rising from a lump of twisted metal that may have been some sort of vehicle, maybe that was the cause of the explosion? Aaron caught himself in the middle of the street, trying to get a better look. He then heard gunfire from the Alex, which dissuaded him from approaching from the inside even more. The infected must be crowding around there, and escape would be easier outside the gates. Aaron checked around him once more, making sure that no infected would come from behind him and possibly corner him in the next alley.

Proceeding, Aaron met a zombie in the alley. ‘It’s just one of the shambling ones’, was what went through his head first. ‘Wow, so much has happened in the last hour that I’m dismissing this life-threatening monster in front of me.’ was his second thought. Aaron let the rifle thump against his chest and hefted his hiking stick. The disorientation from the explosion had passed, he wasn’t going to miss now.

Walking away, he rubbed the point of his walking stick against a napkin on the ground to rid it of blood from that infected.

Eat healthy!

Aaron smiled at the dark irony in the napkin’s print as he climbed out of a hole in the crumbly wall.

Continuing on towards the outer side of the gates, he heard a few shots fire out in quick succession. While fighting was still hearable in the Alex, these shots were much closer. Walking at a brisk pace now, Aaron peeked around a corner and saw a woman fumbling around for a pair of glasses. ‘Goddamn it.’ The explosion was clearly louder and would draw more infected, and the shots from this woman had just occurred, so there were just a few infected. Taking the sash of the rifle off, Aaron raised it to his right eye. He made sure to slide the whatever it was back and load a round. It was already loaded. Aaron squeezed the trigger, expecting resistance. It didn’t budge, ‘Something must be wrong with the trigger.’ He grabbed the rifle by the barrel and chucked it at the nearest infected.
