Realistic or Modern We'll Get Through This Together

Vinaya must've been out of it for a little while, because the next thing she knew her doctor was gently nudging her shoulder, careful not to aggravate any burns. When Vinaya focused, she thought her doctor looked a little apprehensive.

"Miss Mudaliyar," she began once she got Vinaya's attention - Vinaya was too out of it to be concerned that this woman knew her name - "a boy named Tommy wants to see you." Vinaya frowned, confused. She remembered a Tommy at the orphanage, but what would he want with her? And why was he there? Figuring she'd get some answers, Vinaya slowly nodded her consent. The doctor sighed and stood up straight. "Alright then. I don't want you on your feet quite yet. Even though you're awake, you've still sustained some serious damage, so I'll escort you in a wheelchair." She would've loved to protest, but Vinaya knew better, and so she cooperated with the doctor. Getting into the chair was awkward at best, but she managed after some time. They stopped outside a hospital room on another floor, where Vinaya's doctor took a moment to converse with another doctor, who kept looking back to the closed door they stood by.

((Feel free to control Vinaya's doctor, so you can move Vinaya around if need be))

Tommy's Doctor looked a Vinaya, "Tommy suffered a major head injury and now has two separate personalities, there is Tommy, who we assume was the original, dominant personality and then there is Issac, who is convinced you two are lovers and that Cassie is his sister. When I left him, he was Issac, and was asking for you. When we go in there now, we're not sure which personality will be there, but we're hoping interaction with others will force his main personality to prevail. The reason Im telling you all this is because this may be very, very awkward for you, and if you don't want to, you do not have to do this. Now, I've been told that you currently understand English, but cannot speak it? Do you think you can write out on a pad?"

Vinaya listened as attentively as she could, but the combination of the head injury, morphine, and general confusion severely impaired her complete understanding of the situation. Considering she couldn't easily ask any questions at the moment, she considered this information and simply nodded; perhaps she'd figure things out along the way. All she knew so far was that her and Tommy were in some sort of accident, something bad, and maybe Isaac, another boy she remembered from the orphanage, was involved somehow. She did know herself, however, and knew that regardless of what she'd forgotten, Tommy wasn't the kind of person she'd go for and she wanted no romantic involvement with him; if this visit accomplished what the doctors were hoping for, then Vinaya would be just as relieved. To the doctor's question, Vinaya shrugged, but she resolved to give writing a try, anyway. It was evidently the sounds she was forgetting how to connect to the words, not the words themselves since she was understanding perfectly fine. The only sounds that were currently making any sense amidst her dulled headache were Konkani words.

The Doctor nodded and pushed her in. Tommy sat up and looked at her and smiled.

"Hey Vinny.. You looked like I feel.." He looked her over for a moment a frowned, "Have you heard from any of the others?" He showed no indication if he was Tommy or Issac at the moment, but he was very relieved to see her. He looked her over for a moment, "I think something is wrong with me." He looked sad for a moment, "Sometimes I, just pass out. Occasionally I wake up, doing something, and I dont remember starting it."

Vinaya managed a smile towards Tommy. So far, so good. When her doctor quietly leaned over her shoulder to hand her a yellow legal pad and a plain black pen, Vinaya took them and carefully began to write. Each letter took some consideration and focus, and it was slow progress with a shaky hand as though a young child were writing it, but it was more or less legible English.

Others?

After a moment, she added:

Wrong with me too cant remember

He looked at her for a moment, "Sorry." He frowned a little. "The others from the house, Cassie, Aspen, Xavier? Do you remember any of them?"

Vinaya took a while to decide how to answer, and once she did, the answer took even longer to write.

I know them from orphanage? Doctor said memory returning soon im sorry too

Cassie had went to the hospital in the ambulance with Issac, Tommy, and the paramedics. After they arrived she got kicked out, so she went to the waiting room. She wasn't sure if Xavier, Nico, or Aspen had came here, and had hoped they would show up. As she was in the waiting room she realized she didn't even know where Adam is, and she buried her face in her knees, worried. After a while, she went up to the information desk to ask about Issac, Tommy, and Vinaya. "I'm sorry, we can't give any information out on them, at the moment, I'm sorry dear." The nurse had told her. Cassie nodded stiffly, and walked back to the chairs, sitting back down. In the back of her head she worried that any minute, the authorities would come and take her back to the orphanage. However, as the time passed, she stayed lucky and no one had come for her. Cassie had fallen asleep in the chairs, when a doctor came up to her and woke her up. "Are you Cassie?" He asked. "Um, yeah..." She braced herself expecting something about the orphanage. "Okay, I wanted to inform you that you are allowed to visit Tommy." Cassie's eyes widened relieved. "Really?" The doctor nodded, "Yeah, he's actually been asking for you. But... I must tell you, he's not entirely himself... He's got two personalities going on. Sometimes he thinks he's Tommy, his actual self, and other times he thinks he is Issac, and you are his sister. So just be careful of that. We hope that seeing you will trigger him to remember again." Cassie bit her lip nervously with this news, but was really glad she could see him. "O-ok. Thank you." She said then started heading to Tommy's room immediately.

Meanwhile, the real Issac was still entirely unconcious. Unlike the others, it wasn't predicted that he would suffer memory loss and other head injuries. The main issue with him currently was the broken leg and the loss of oxygen to his body for an extended period of time. He had been entirely denied of visitors, as he was in a much more critical condition.

Tommy nodded to her, "Yes, from the Orphanage.. We all left together for whatever reason and shacked up in an abandoned apartment complex. It was great, but I guess.. there was a faulty pilot light or something." He looked at her, "I dont know how the others are." He sighed a little. He laid back, "I hope we recover." He closed his eyes for a moment, then opened them again, his eyes grew wide and he sat up quickly, then groaned in pain.

"Vinny! Babe! You're alright!" he smiled to her, "I was worried. I knew you were alive, but they didn't tell me much else, how are you holding up?"

Vinaya looked down at her lap and at the plain white cast on her right leg. She'd never broken a bone before; it was such a bizarre feeling. As she listened, she nodded slightly and began writing again.

Oh how many of us? Who? Dont remember much now. We will be fine

It took her a moment to realize what must've happened when Tommy's attitude changed, but she ran with it and added underneath:

Im fine how are you?

"A little sore, better now that Im seeing your beautiful face." He smiled to her, then his eyes ran over her body and he frowned a little, "Looks like we really got beat up." He manuvered himself and with some grunt sat on the side of the bed. With his legs uncovered she could see a burn on his left thigh, that would scar up pretty nicely. He stretched his back, "Im... Im glad you made it, I dont know what I would do without you Vinny." He looked sad for a moment and looked at her face.

Cassie was walking through the halls to Tommy's room, and when she entered she blinked surprised to see Vinaya, but relief filled her. "Vinaya! Thank God you're alright!" She examined her and Tommy and frowned seeing how bad the injuries were. Or maybe not alright... She sighed then looked at Tommy and Vinaya again and realized something else. It appeared they were having a moment, or at least Tommy was, and she backed away to the door, and muttered, "Sorry if I intruded something..." She looked down.

"Sis! No!" He jumped up off his bed, which may have been a mistake, he stumbled a little, but limped to her and drew her into a tight hug, "Im glad you're alright, I was worried, the doc told me you weren't hurt and I kept telling him to let you see me.." he smiled, "I dont know why,b ut they keep forgetting you're my sister." He rubbed her shoulders and looked at her face.

Cassie blinked surprised and gulped, looking at Tommy. Tommy is not himself... He thinks he's Issac... She reminded herself. She answered shakily, "That's really weird To- Er... Issac..." She frowned noticing he was in no position to be standing and lead him back to the bed. "Maybe it's a good idea to stay laying down." She glanced over at Vinaya nervously, wondering what she thought of this, if she even knew what was going on.

Tommy sat and rubbed his head a little, "Ive been getting these really bad headaches lately, it really, really sucks." He looked at Cassie and them Vinaya, "Im glad I got my two favorite ladies here... Do you know about the others?" He looked back at Cassie, "Aspen, Nikki, Xavier, Tommy, Im hoping all of you were together."

Vinaya nodded at Tommy's remark; they weren't looking so great at the moment. On her part, despite the conversation and distractions, she kept sporadically coughing, which made her chest and throat hurt more than they already did. On top of that she still had a headache that would no doubt worsen once the medication wore off, not to mention the burns that so far she'd managed to ignore. Surely they'd become a nuisance later. When Cassie walked in, Vinaya turned suddenly to look at her and instantly regretted it. She put a hand to her head as she listened to the two of them talk, certain now as to what she was dealing with concerning Tommy - but she wasn't sure that Cassie knew. Vinaya met her eyes and tilted her head; she knew very well what was up with Tommy. She wanted to hear Cassie's answer to the condition of the others, though. The names he listed were all familiar, connected to the orphanage, but beyond that she remembered nothing of the people behind the names.

Cassie looked at Vinaya and Tommy thinking about how to answer. She didn't want to stress them out or anything like that. "Well... Nico, Aspen and Xavier are alright, but... I don't know where they are at the moment... I'm sure they are alright though." What if they got brought back to the orphanage...? She forced that thought out of her head immediately. "Issa- or.. Tommy..." This was getting difficult. "He's in... Really bad condition I think. Last I saw him." She recalled thinking back to on the ambulance. "But he'll recover in time." I hope... "And... That leaves Adam, and I haven't seen him since he left the apartment." She gulped, "I'm sure he's safe though." Again, I hope...

"So what will we do now? I mean, odds are for us, when we get discharged we'll be put right back in the orphanage." He sighed a little, "I really do not want to go back to that place." He looked at Vinaya for a moment then to Cassie. "Do you think you can find the others? Or do you have any clue at all where they're at, if you guys start up another place, when the time comes, Vinny and I can meet you there."

Cassie thought for a moment, "Last I saw the others they were all at the apartment... I rode the ambulance with you guys. I don't know if they came, or were coming to the hospital... For all we know, they were forced to go back to the orphanage." Her voice trailed off, and she looked down, starting to wish she had stuck with them. At least if she had done that, she'd know where everyone but Adam is. Cassie really was worried about Adam. He could be anywhere. Possibly caught, and thrown back in the orphanage. Or else maybe he ran off without them. She couldn't know for sure, so she wasn't going to jump to conclusions.

With her memory gone, the names Cassie mentioned were little more than vague recollections of faces Vinaya had encountered in the past few years. Part of her felt a little bad for how disconnected she was from the group without any memory; she felt nothing for these people, who could potentially be in danger. Nor did she feel any particular desire one way or another when it came to possibly going back to the orphanage, but she figured if she'd already escaped, she might as well keep out. Perhaps when her memory returned, she would know why she'd been so desperate to get away from the place, so she'd go along with Cassie and Tommy for now. Realizing she should probably contribute to the conversation somehow, she wrote,

Theyre probably okay we should worry about Isaac and how to get out of here

As she considered this, she found frustration with the fact that she wasn't very independently mobile at the moment, not to mention her other debilitating infirmities. The damn cough wouldn't go away, and every time it happened, her throat and chest felt like they too were on fire. The headache was mounting, overcoming the pain medication, and it was making her feel a little woozy. Really, she just wanted to go to sleep, and that attitude wouldn't get her safely out of the hospital. She added,

Maybe we should worry about healing a bit first too

Cassie read Vinaya's notes and nodded, as she looked them over. "Yeah... Maybe. You guys need to get better." She sighed. Any plans for the future that they were making... They were ruined. She thought bitterly, Maybe I should just go pack my few belongings and walk right back into the orphanage... How did we even think we would live out here? We're just kids. She hid her thoughts in her expression but it might have shined through her eyes. A fire is what blew this for us. And here we were only worried about getting caught. Risking our lives for this... It isn't worth it. Cassie looked at Vinaya and Tommy, estimating just how bad their injuries were. Bad enough. "You guys... I'm really sorry this happened to you both. I feel responsible for this mess, and I wish things could've went differently for us." Just our luck though, right?

Vinaya carefully eyed Cassie and in her, sensed something similar to the thoughts and feelings she'd had and was still having. As she'd decided earlier, she thought they should keep going and try to make a life for themselves outside of the orphanage, even if she couldn't remember why she'd wanted to in the first place. What mattered is that obviously, she'd had a reason, whether or not she remembered it, and they'd already made it so far. The fire wasn't anyone's fault, just a freak accident. A learning experience, too. They would be more careful in the future. Vinaya wrote (it took her a bit of time),

Dont be sorry not your fault you are not responsible for anything you are younger than we are

I wish things could have gone differently too but it is what it is now we need to make the best of it

The whole thing was uncharacteristic talk for Vinaya, and some small part of her realized this with shock. Perhaps it was the memory loss, or maybe something else had changed since escaping the orphanage, but Vinaya didn't normally talk this hopefully. Nor was she ever inclined to console people (although it didn't make sense for Cassie to be responsible for the mess or for the fire to be anyone's fault). Was it because she so adamantly wanted to keep going?

Cassie read the note Vinaya showed, and was surprised. It wasn't something she'd expected Vinaya to say... Or more or less write, but it made Cassie feel better somewhat and she smiled sadly in agreement, "Yeah, you're right. Maybe, just maybe, we can find a way out of this mess, and get our lives back... or basically more like start our lives." She scanned both of them over again, "How long do you think it will take for you guys to get mostly better?"

Tommy shrugged, and winced, "No clue... I mean, it should only be a few days for me, but for Vinny here I have no clue." He looked at Cassie for a moment, and then to Vinaya, "Ever think we should've stayed at the Orphanage? Avoided all this?"
