Fantasy Warring Nations Unite

Devin was about to show the monarchs the way to the banquet hall, but it seemed like King Leonard already knew the way. As he watched the two powerful figures grow small in the distance, he couldn't help but wonder what it felt like to be king.

~~~
King Leonard and Akitka arrived when Leonard was halfway through his book. It was one he had read before, but one of those books that you could read everytime and still enjoy it as much as you did when you first read it.
The King greeted him cheerfully, and Levian responded back in kind. As they sat, Levian noticed the pain in the Kings face, and the concern on Akitkas. The young princess looked between her father and the prince, and it hurt Levian that he couldn't do anything about it.
Then he remembered. A book he had been reading after his own father had died. It held many remedies and the such that dealed with pain and the sort. Levian wondered if it could be useful to the king
"I have something I want you to try after we finish eating." He said quietly. "I think it might help you deal with some of the pain, if not did it all together."
King Leonard looked to Levian and offered a kind smile as he rubbed his knee carefully. “I have tried many remedies my boy, but I’m still willing to try anything.” He said smiling softly as he would try anything to get that worried look off his daughters face. Plus he still needed to get many good years out of himself, in hopes that there was an heir for his throne, as selfish as it sounded.
Akitka looked at her father for a moment and then grabbed his hand carefully. “He’s has knee pain mostly since the war.” She admitted as she knew enough to know that the war was the big cause of the change.
Leonard took in a deep breath and nodded his head, “It is not unknown that the war did take much out of me. Heck, I literally took an arrow to the knee. That’s what sent me home in the end.” He admitted as he rubbed his knee carefully and smiled. “That and the death of my wife,” he soon added as that was another factor.
Akitka hugged her father tightly and sighed as they were waiting for Queen Seline to arrive before they started to eat as she knew proper etiquette.
Levian sat quiet for a while, twiddling his fingers. "I've found most "professionals" overlook the basics." Levian wasn't an expert, but he knew some things about the medical field.
"For example, turmerry is an herb that's usually found in spicy dishes. But taking it by itself or combined with ingredients such as ginger or coconut oil will help relieve joint paint and such." He explained. The prince had a good memory which helped him retain knowledge he had read from books long ago.
Just then, Seline arrived. Her platinum blonde tresses tied in a bun, and her ice blue eyes sharp as ever. In her face however was a sort of weariness that she rarely showed.
"Pardon my being late. I had something I needed to do." She took a seat next to Levian, and clasped her hands together as the maids rushed to bring the plates and the such.
Akitka looked at her father for a moment and smiled softly, "please take a treatment daddy." She said as she hugged him tightly as she didn't want him to be in pain anymore, didn't want him to suffer like he had been doing all this time with this injury.
Leonard chuckled as he looked at Akitka and rubbed her head carefully to try and comfort her a bit. "I will do what I can my darling little girl." He whispered as he looked at her and smiled a bit more. He then looked to Levian and nodded his head carefully, "as I said, I'm willing to try anything at this point to try and get these pains to go away." He said as he really was and he would do it to try and see a smile on his daughters face.
He then looked to Seline as she came in and sighed a little, "what is it Seline? You have something written all over your face." He said as the maids brought them all their lunch.
Akitka looked at the plate infront of her for a moment before looking to her father who had already started eating. This was new to her so she wasn't sure if she would like it. That was the hard part about being in a new kingdom, without knowing the cuisine how would you know if you liked it or not? Certainly her father had been here before and eaten their food, so it made it easier to him, but for Akitka it was a bit more difficult than she thought it was going to be.
Seline gave Leonard a quick look before smiling. "Ah. Its nothing too big, don't worry about it."
Levian ate his food slowly, making sure to fully chew it before swallowing. It was a far cry from how he was like as a kid, when he ate his food super fast and basically swallowed it whole. After a couple bites, he looked up to the guests seeing how he liked the meal.
King Leonard was eating heartily, while Akitka was merely picking at her food. Her fork rarely came up to her lips.
Seline saw this too, and smiled at the the girl. "If you'd like I can get the cooks to make you something more familiar?"
Levian raised an eyebrow, curious as to why Seline was being nice to Akitka suddenly.
Akitka looked up from her meal and shook her head a little bit as she felt like she might as well get used to the food here. Plus, it wasn't like she was a picky eater because she was usually pretty easy to get to eat different foods.
Leonard looked at his daughter and smiled softly as he reached over and rubbed her head. "She's a strong girl, she'll adjust." He said a she knew that this would just take her a bit of getting used to.
He soon looked to Levian and Seline, "however Seline, I feel your holding something back." He said as he looked at her for a moment and then continued with what he was doing as he put his fork in his mouth.
Akitka looked at her father and then looked back to her plate, "you know not to be pushy daddy." She said as she looked at her dad and giggled a little bit before looking to her plate again.
Leonard chuckled and nodded his head as he looked at his daughter.
Seline cut her eyes at Leonard. "As I said, its not a big deal..." With one fluid motion she untucked a clump of hair and downed her drink.
"Its nothing that concerns you. So you shouldn't worry about it." She snapped.
Levian shook his head, embarrased at her moms rude display.
Leonard looked to Seline, “there’s no need to snap now. I was simply asking a question because something was bothering you.” He said before shaking his head, “certainly not the kindness you showed my wife.” He muttered under his breath as he got up from the table and left.
Akitka looked to her father when he spoke and was kind of surprised by what he said. She now felt really weird about being there and she didn’t know why he got upset and brought her mother into this since she had no idea the extent of her families history with Levian’s family. She only knew of the war and the toll it took on her mother and father combined.
She sighed as she looked at her plate and started playing with her food now before getting up. “I’m going to go,” she said as she just felt awkward now, sitting alone without her father. She sighed a shrug she pushed her hair behind her ears and started heading towards the exit of the room.
Seline glared at Leonard as he left. "I don't why you insist I'm somehow to blame for Katrina's death. You above all know that she was my best friend. We've been friends longer then your marriage!"
Levian sighed, feeling extremely uncomfortable. He had known King Leonard's wife. Often times when the king had come to visit his wife would bring the then-young prince a variety of treats.
"The war has not only effected you and your kingdom but ours as well. There were many casualties." Seline said this more to herself, her voice quieting to barely above a whisper. "Why do you think that I'm agreeing to this in the first place?"
Leonard allowed Akitka to leave and then looked st Levian and motioned for him to leave. “The adults need to talk.” He said as he didn’t want to involve either Akitka or Levian in this entire argument because it wasn’t their faults, he was short tempered ever since his wife passed, especially Seline.
“You insist that you were her friend, but you were the one who started the war.” He stated as he looked at her, “so, if you were thinking of Katrina’s failing health maybe you wouldn’t have thought about taking her husband away from her. She died because you started a war with our nation.” He said as he looked at Seline, “don’t you ever call Katrina your friend.” He said as he was furious with all of this.
Akitka didn’t go much further as she sighed a little and waited patiently for her father to finish what he was talking about, even though she knew there was an argument going on in the other side of the door. She curled up across from the door and sighed a little as she hugged her knees tightly.
Meanwhile in the dining room, Leonard was still digging into Seline. “Your agreeing to this for the same reason I am, because if we fought any longer then both our nations would die.”
Levian gladly followed the kings command, not trying to get caught in the crossfires of the monarchs verbal battle. Outside, he saw Akitka curled up next to the door listening to what was happening inside. Suddenly, the prince felt extremely embarrassed.
Seline stood up gritting her teeth. "Don't you forget there are two sides to every war. You are as much to blame as I am."
"Our countries have been allies since creation, and we asked you for help as because we were going through a tough time with our resources. You put aside years of friendship and declined." She continued.
"Although you may think that you're somehow morally better, I had to do what was right for my kingdom." Seline cut her eyes at the king. "After all, it wasn't us that declared war first."
Leonard looked at Seline, “I gave you a reason for why I had to decline because we didn’t have resources either. We just found a way to adjust and fix our problem rather than ask for help. Besides you became a god damn tyrant that even Katrina was afraid of your nation. Hell, she’s probably rolling over in her grave because I agreed to marry our daughter off.” He said as she looked at Seline and frowned.
“I declared the war because you somehow thought you were morally better. I’m not a perfect person, not by far, I’ve made my mistakes, but as you just said, there are always two sides to a story. You just never wanted to listen to mine no matter the pleads Katrina put to both of us to just listen.” He stated as he looked at her, “so, no I’m not morally better than you, but I gave a good long thought to my actions before declaring war.”
Akitka sighed a little as she could hear the yelling on the other side and she kind of covered her ears and closed her eyes. She wasn’t a stranger to yelling because she heard her father yell before, but not in years since her mother passed. It was hard to see him so upset, so defeated.
Leonard finally calmed down, “I am not a puppet you can bend to your will Seline. I’m sorry you thought I would give you everything, but I married Katrina, loved her, and her kingdom provided us with our resources. We had nothing to give at that point, not to mention Akitka could barely get out of bed because she was so damn sick all the time. We were draining our resources to keep our daughter alive.” He said as he shook his head, “I’m done discussing this any further... you’ve been a cold hearted bitch ever since Romulous died. It shows because even your son doesn’t like you.” He said before grabbing the door. “You ever hurt my daughter and I will come back here and retrieve her, whether you like it or not. I don’t care if she’s married to your son, she is mine and I will protect her from you as much as I can.” He said before leaving the room finally to end the conversation because it just brought up old memories and it made the pain worst.
Seline scrunched her eyebrows, her blue eyes erupting within like fire. "You dare threaten me in my own kingdom?!"
Standing up from her seat, she approached the king as if she was going to confront her. Even though their was a massive difference in height, weight and everything that would give someone advantage in a fight.
"King or not. I could have your head cleanly swiped off and dished in the very silverware we dined in!" She snarled. Never in her life had the queen lost control of her emotions like that.
"Speak to me like that once more in my home, and I will become your worst nightmare!!"
Levian in the meanwhile facepalmed at his moms dramatics. He was so embarrassed at the fact that his mom was yelling about killing the king, when his daughter stood right outside the door.
“Oh stop being a drama queen. I didn’t say anything about you, I said if you hurt my daughter I’m taking her.” Leonard said frowning before opening the door, “now leave me the hell alone.” He said as he exited the room surprised to see the children hadn’t left. Well, not really so much that Akitka hadn’t left, but Levian as well.
He shook his head and sighed as he went to his daughter, “come on sweetheart.” He said as he held his hand out to her. He helped her up from the ground and kissed her head. “Levian, if you would like to try that treatment I’ll be in my room.” He said as he wanted to spend time with his daughter, alone right now. He wasn’t opposed to having Levian come along, but right now his daughter was all he had left.
Akitka looked at her dad for a moment and carefully got up from the ground and held onto his hand. She looked st Levian for a moment and then to Seline. She finally looked back to her dad and smiled softly as she nodded her head carefully. “Let’s go daddy,” she said as she held onto his hand.
Leonard smiled to his daughter and started walking along side her. He was worried about her, about his kingdom and his own failing health. He had so many worries that he wondered if he would survive to see his daughter have children. Right now it looked like she probably wasn’t planning on it anytime soon given her feelings towards Levian, which he felt bad about, but could understand.
Seline sighed as she watched the King live. When the burly man was out of site, she collapsed in her chair and put her head down. What am I doing, Romeus? Kat?
~~~

Levian stood up abruptly when the king came out, door swinging. He had a sheepish look on his face when the Kings gaze stopped on him, but he quickly lightened up when he heard what he said.

"I'll bring it in a few minutes." He said as he left. At the kitchen he prepared the proper ingredients, and mixed them. The result was a light brown mixture that slightly resembled root beer.

Leonard nodded his head as he wrapped an arm around his daughter and Akitka almost instinctively braved herself for the weight of her father. She was a strong girl to say the least as she could support her father who wasn’t much bigger than her without too much of an issue.

She soon guided her father back towards his room taking a break every so often to adjust the mountain of a man currently on her shoulder. “Is it getting worst?” She asked with a concerned look as she pushed open the door to her fathers chambers and helped him to lay down in bed.

Leonard looked at his daughter for a moment and nodded his head as the pain had been getting worst ever since he got here. “Yes, I’ve been pushing myself too much.” He said as that was the gods honest truth. He had been pushing himself to stand more and endure the pain, but it was a losing battle and even he saw that. He sighed as he relaxed s little bit and looked at his daughter and offered a kind smile. “Don’t fret child, I will be fine.” He whispered as he closed his eyes to help himself a bit.

After letting the mixture cool for a while, Levian made his way to to the kings quarters. Inside, he saw the great king lying on the bed, and his daughter beside him kneeling. As he made his way to the bed, he cleared his throat to make his presence known.

"I'm not sure if it'll work, but if it doesn't, it'll at lease help mitigate the pain." He placed the tray on the drawers next to the bed, and focused on pouring a reasonable amount of the concoction on the cup.

"I hope it won't taste too bad for you. Turmerry is a rather strong taste by itself."

Leonard and Akitka sat in silence for awhile before he noticed that Levian had entered and he offered a kind smile as he pushed himself up to a sitting position. “It’s okay my boy, I’ve tasted a great many things and most of them have been none too friendly to me in the realm of taste.” He said as he looked at him and carefully took the cup. He downed it in one swig and swallowed it before setting the cup down.

He let out a breath and sighed a little as he laid back and closed his eyes. “Jesus it’s not the taste I have to worry about.” He said laughing a little as he opened his eyes and looked to Levian. “Gave me a bit of a headache, probably because I drank it so quick.” He admitted as he watched the boy. “You look a lot like your father,” he admitted.

Akitka looked at her father for a moment and smiled, “you need to drink slower daddy.” She said as she looked back down to the ground infront of her. She wasn’t very social right now, probably because of the fact that her father was ill right now, even if he wasn’t seriously ill, she was worried and it made her quiet for quiet some time.

Levian smiled at King Leonard's compliment. He loved being compared to his father. While his fathers skin was a few shades darker, and his eyes were a dark hazel color, the two both shared the same general head shape, jawline and etc.

"Yeah, you have to get acquired to the taste." He explained. "You know like alcohol... your first time you don't go just drinking it all quickly. You take a few sips and wait for it to work its magic."

As the King waited for the serum to work, Levian looked around the room. It was certainly a room built for a monarch. The room was enormous, several times bigger than his own, and it was painted a deep royal purple. The bed was big enough for everyone in the room to sleep in, and still have space to themselves.

As his eyes wandered around the room, they suddenly stopped at his soon-to-be bride. Akitka. He barely knew her. Only that she didn't want to be here, and her father was ill. At the moment, she was staring solemnly at her father, her lips pressed tight.

He looked away after a while, and looked at the ground.

Leonard laughed a little, “I was the best of friends with your father. He would muse about you in letters and such... he would be proud of you Levian, he really would.” He said as he leaned back on the bed and smiled softly. “In our youth, your father and I would beg to see each other, beg to spend time in the others kingdom. When I would visit I would play chess with him, and when he visited he would ride horses with me. It’s strange to call someone from a different nation a friend, but he certainly was my friend.”

Akitka looked at her father and smiled a little bit as she reached for his hand and gently took hold of it. “Kind of like my cousin Lily and I?” She asked and Leonard laughed and nodded his head, “exactly like your cousin Lily and you... she’ll be here soon by the way.” He said smiling, “I thought you might like her to see you on your wedding day.” He stated.

Akitka took a moment and smiled thinking about her cousin who was a bit older than her, already married and monarch of her kingdom. “I love her, I miss her.” She admitted as she looked at her father, “once she got married she didn’t have much time for me.”

Leonard nodded his head and smiled, “she had a kingdom to run my love. She has even more on her plate with an heir on the way.” He stated as he got the news before they left their kingdom.

Akitka looked up for a moment, “yes, I made sure she does... what is she having?” She asked and Leonard shrugged, “they think a little bit based on how her mother was when she was pregnant with boys.” He stated as he chuckled, “but what do they know?”

Levian smiled as he listened to the king tell stories about his father. He didn't know that the king and his father were such good friends. The conversation went like that for about a good minute until Akitka spoke up. Which made Levi kind of annoyed. Here they were talking about his father, and the princess suddenly starts talking about her cousin 'Lily'.

Levian glared at the princess before he caught ahold of himself and realized what he was doing. Why did he suddenly feel contempt for the princess? Some part of him hated her on how she was acting like such a baby. It wasn't Levian's fault that they were to be in an arranged marriage.

Until today, he didn't even know Akitka was alive, let alone something else.

Leonard knew it was a bit of a change of subject, but he hoped Levian didn’t hate him too much. Akitka needed something to compare it to, to try and get a reference for what he was talking about. However he was thinking more and more about his friend. “I remember the day you were born Levian... your father had summoned me and he had this big grin on his face. I got out of my carriage and he was all over the place, bouncing off the walls. He immediately took me to your nursery and showed you off. He was so excited to have a son. Of course my wife was due a few months down the road. He asked me if I was having a girl or boy and at the time they thought Akitka was a boy. So, of course I told him what the doctor said and he thought it had to be right since it was right for him. Well he made the same trip out to my kingdom just a few days before Akitka was born and when he got there I did the same god damn thing he did, only a little toned down because Katrina was hurt and Akitka wasn’t doing to well. Well I brought him into Akitka’s nursery against doctors orders and he marveled at her. Then came the burning question of why she was a she and not a he. Of course I explained the doctors were wrong and we had a mighty fine laugh over it. He went home and a few days later Akitka got very ill. I never blamed your father though because he made sure to be careful around her.” He said and shook his head laughing, “I’m deeply sorry I’m a rambling old fool.” He said smiling as he enjoyed the memories of his friend.

Akitka looked at her father and smiled softly, “it sounds like you two were close... I don’t remember him though.” She said and he sighed, “well it’s because we both got busy and couldn’t come visit one another as often.” He said as he rubbed his daughters head and smiled softly. “He would send you toys though,” he added. Akitka smiled softly, “you mean those toys that used to scare me at first?” She asked and he nodded his head, “he always made the hair too frizzy and Akitka hated it. She loved the dolls, but the hair was just something she didn’t like. I believe your father would buy them in town.”

Levian could never get bored of stories about his father. As he grew older Levian realized that he didn't know much about his father. Other then the fact that he was his father and was a masterful swordsman when he was younger, Emperor Romeus was an enigma to the prince. He saw him as a perfect memory, one that he would forever remember and would long to relive.

Any mention of his father that disrespected that image, was met with a fury. So, when Leonard mentioned that piece of information about Akitka disliking his fathers gifts when she was younger it angered the prince.

"I remember when dad bought the gifts because he would take me along with him. I would always ask who they were for and he would laugh at me, and say 'You will know when you are older'." Levian explained slowly, anger building up as he talked.

"My dad was Emperor and still took the time to get something for you. I think you should be more grateful." The prince quipped rather pointedly.

Leonard looked at Levian, “Levian, she didn’t mean any harm. She was young and one of our maids had really frizzy hair. It was the maid that gave her the treatments. She still has the dolls, they are in her room.” He stated as to try a diffuse the situation a little bit because he knew Akitka was hot headed like himself. She could speak in anger and he wanted her to not do something brash.

Akitka frowned as she looked at Levian, “oh bugger off.” She said as she looked to her father, and he sighed a little. “Akitka, be nice please.” He said as he wanted her to not do what he just did with Seline. “No, he has no right to judge me just because I didn’t like something about a god damn doll that I got as a child! He has no right!” She yelled and Leonard took in a deep breath and sighed, “Akitka, please.” He said as he didn’t want to say anymore. “Before you say something you regret,” he stated.

Akitka frowned and shook her head, “no! He has no right to judge me because he has no idea what I went through to get where I am today!” She yelled and kept going, “I don’t want to be here, I never wanted to be here! I want to go home!” She yelled and started crying.

Leonard got up from the bed and sighed, “Levian, I’m really sorry... I think it’s best if we all just take a breather.” He said as he wasn’t proud of his daughters behavior, then again he wasn’t proud of his earlier behavior either because he knew he was being stupid and bringing up shit from a long time ago. He sighed as he sat down next to Akitka and looked at her. Tears were running down her face, “I’m losing everything! I hate this!” She yelled and Leonard sighed a little bit as he let her kind of deal with it on her own. Maybe he had sheltered her for far too long and this would be a reality check for her. He could only hope this would be the case.

Levian grit his teeth, trying to stifle his anger for the kings sake. He wasn't really an overly emotional person, but something about the girl set him off.

"You act as if you're the only one losing something here." He rebuked. "I didn't wake up one day and decide to marry you. Its not my fault this is happening."

Bad shit happened to him too. But he was an adult, and he knew this world was not fair. Life was not fair. That's why he wasn't going around sulking, and glaring at everyone. It wouldn't change anything. All it would do would put you and everyone around you in a bad mood.
