Cresion Breezes Cresion Breezes I was planning to have a CS out yesterday or today, but Zufaix character's power is pretty similar to what I'd envisioned, so it looks like I'll have to tweak my concept significantly or overhaul it from the ground up. So, I'll be a little later than anticipated. Maybe tomorrow or the day after.
They have the power of brain. Use the power of brawn. They use bullets. You use giant ass boulders and chuck them. Stomp their heads.

Rip and tear.

As much fun as this would be, I’m pretty sure Rai’Shauni has it covered.

Well, shoot. I mean, it's telekinesis but I see your point.

Maybe trajectory and velocity manipulation? Make bullets go fast and can adjust or go around an object? Or maybe the ability to alter density? Himself or others? Make people or creatures float while he stays weighted and more durable?

These are just a few suggestions! I hope they help!

Well, personalities is quite important in this too, not just powers. And it's also less about what the power is and more about how it's applied

Hell, powers are sort of secondary because at some point you might have to... actually, these are spoilers

Those aren’t bad ideas. Thanks, I’ll consider them.

I see you. I see the personality. Two cool cucumbers have arrived, huh? Either they going to be okay with one another or hate each other.

Eh, well, Maverick is too nonchalant for hate. Just don't try to deduce what's under the mask. Or in his pockets. Or what's in his room. Or under his bed. Nothing there. Nope. Nothing at all.
Well that mostly depends on how interested she is in Maverick. She pretty much only cares about her research at this point, so we'll see how that develops XD

Ah so this is the cast that's tasked with breaking the cycle of suffering and violence and change the world for the better

...I mean that's an optional storyline, I know some people aren't interested in world saving endeavors

I wanted to make a relatively mature and experienced character, with an extroverted personality geared toward organizing, teaching and supporting others. Do you think this would fit with the group dynamic? I was thinking a healing or defense oriented ability might compliment this.

Personally, I really go in for all the idealistic “This world is worth fighting for” and “Must protect innocents” stuff… but I know that’s not everyone.

Well it's not she wouldn't help save the world, she'd just be a lot more motivated about it if it actively aided in her research. Though on that note she'd probably be at least somewhat interested in Maverick considering his Slate status but probably not much outside of that.

Play what you think you'd enjoy playing as long as it's not toooooo similar to another character. And although I am the GM I'm not in charge of the group dynamics, that's something created by everyone here.

There is a way to find out the truth behind the world persay, but that requires a few prerequisites

The choice based stuff in this plot is more or less structured like Undertale, it generally depends on what NPCs are killed.

Interested? She hasn't even bought him dinner first! Jk

Her research can go hang itself unless it proves useful (in a practical manner) would be Maverick's idea of it if he was really mean/rude about it.

My man is down to save the world if that's an option. But until he knows it is an option, he gonna be in his same devil-may-care cycle. He does his duty and he'll rescue people out of the line of fire. But don't expect much more unless he's given good reason.

The group dynamic consists of edgey folk (no offense), mental folk (again no offense), and the new group of "*Yawn!* Who cares?" people (no offense and I'm part of this group), so no matter what the group dynamic is, I think a healer with a heart of gold would be a welcome change of pace.

(This is what I've seen at a brief-ish sort of glance. I only read a bit of each character bio so take what you will)

Anyways, I'm planning to do a big update of new character reviews + base update/recap + new ic arc intro on Wednesday.

Hopefully, Monday Monday can finish a CS by then but if not I'll be going regardless.

Cresion Breezes Cresion Breezes In light of my writer’s block I’ve decided to just go with my original idea, and let you be the judge of whether the power is too similar to Aurelia’s. If so, I have a few alternate ideas.

Vanessa Ross

“Oh? You’re new? Then allow me to offer a word of advice. Anything worth doing is worth doing well. So, if you can’t do it well, don’t do it. There’s no shame in leaving things to the professionals. No one expects you to be a hero, dear. We won’t remember how brave you were while scraping your entrails off the pavement.”

esVPU39.jpg

Appearance: Always sharply dressed and seldom seen with a hair out of place, Vanessa is a fit, curvaceous woman, standing at 5'9", with black hair and violet eyes.
Name: Vanessa Ross
Age: 32
Combat Experience: 9 years
Department Transfer History: Armament/ Logistics
Protective Ward: No. As much as she respects Chief Luden, Vanessa succeeds on her own merits, or not at all.

Eye Color: Magenta
Ability Name: Eye of the Beholder
Visionary Ability: When Eye of the Beholder is activated, Vanessa gains a boost both to her visual perception and mental processing abilities, granting an advanced awareness of space, depth and motion. Among other things, this enables her to track the movement of a target to determine the precise moment to land a hit, set up an attack based on where it will be, or warn allies of incoming attacks. This is not precognition- rather than seeing the future, her brain makes rapid calculations based on current trajectories, providing an estimate of an object's future position. These predictions can be disrupted by a sudden change of course or the introduction of a new variable. In practice, her ability gives the illusion of enhanced reflexes. In addition, given enough time to observe, she can comprehend the chaotic form and function of a Muduo's body and estimate its weak point based on its movements. Just as a human will instinctively protect their head and torso during a fist fight, a Muduo will drop subtle hints about its vital regions when threatened. Prolonged, repeated use of her ability can cause eye strain, fatigue, and headaches.
Equipment:
-Bolt-Action Sniper Rifle
-Pistol
-2 Combat Knives
-Night-Vision and Infrared Goggles
-Special Glasses

Personality: Ever the consummate professional, Vanessa embodies competence, hard work, and dedication to the job. Cultivating these qualities is the surest way to earn her respect. Growing up as a Slate- or perhaps growing up protected- left a chip on her shoulder, fueling her drive to prove herself even to this day. Those who were forced to pull themselves up by their own bootstraps are lucky, in a sense, because they know for certain how capable they are. Individuals with particularly powerful visionary abilities might be subject to harsher scrutiny or treated with a barely perceptible contempt. Vanessa earned her place, and she wants you to know it. At the same time, she understands what it is to feel helpless, and goes out of her way to protect those who can't protect themselves.

An eager problem-solver, Vanessa sees what needs to be done, and then does it- or makes someone else do it. She has little patience to spare for inefficiency and bureaucratic stonewalling. Though she values cooperation, she will intimidate when her patience wears thin. Despite being demanding and occasionally ruthless, she prioritizes her team over her own interests, and places individual welfare over deadlines, preferring to take on extra work herself rather than burdening her team. Taking new employees under her wing and showing them the ropes is something she actively enjoys, drawing from her experience to offer pithy advice and develop their individual gifts. Often, she adopts a subtle, teasing humor with her subordinates.

While some may find her intimidating, Vanessa is ultimately a caring individual who exudes a kind of fierce, overbearing friendliness, always ready to offer assistance.

General History: In terms of her ability, Vanessa was very much a late bloomer. Growing up in a housing development in the shadows of Misthart tower, thanks to her father's position as a doctor at St. Nautilus hospital and her mother's job in the Logistics apartment, Vanessa had a more sheltered and, some might say, privileged upbringing than most. Still, her life was not free from struggle. Vanessa was an overachiever both by nurture and by nature, both parents holding high hopes for her and her sister. "Don't waste the opportunities you've been given," they would say. "Not everyone is so fortunate, so make the most of it." At the age of ten, a routine medical examination revealed her to be a Slate. She was ecstatic, sine there was a good chance she'd develop a Visionary ability.

However, Vanessa's sister resented the new attention showered on her sibling, creating a rivalry that was never truly resolved. As her teenage years went by, and Vanessa showed no signs of developing an ability, she sensed a shift in the attitudes around her. Where at first she was a worthwhile future investment, she was now one more problem among many. Whether this impression was given by her parents or the culture of Misthart Tower itself was hard to say. "If you're not going to be a Visionary, at least make yourself useful," she seemed to hear.

So, that's exactly what she did. She attacked her studies and extracurriculars with gusto, determined to get by on sheer effort where others might cruise on innate talent, or resign themselves to mediocrity. Thanks to her excellent GPA, everyone urged her to go into Research or Logistics, or to become a doctor like her father, but in defiance of all expectations, she applied to the Armament Department. Tired of being a disappointment, tired of being a burden, tired of being someone who needed protection, she would prove herself by facing Muduos head-on. While she took to physical training rapidly, having participated in sports and trained on her own time throughout her high school years, and showed a particular talent for marksmanship, advancement was an uphill battle, and she was mostly relegated to supporting roles or dealing with human threats.

At the age of 20, during a chance encounter with a Muduo while out on patrol, she suddenly awakened her ability- almost to her chagrin. Now how would she prove that she was capable even without one? Still, it required intelligence and finesse, and made good use of the skills she'd already acquired. Perhaps she was uniquely equipped to use it well. That's what she set out to prove next. In due time, she was given leadership of her own squad, and even spent two years as a combat instructor. However, a particularly brutal Muduo attack changed the course of her career. Rather than waiting for backup, she made the call to get involved, ostensibly to prevent civilian casualties. Despite her best efforts, half her squad was killed, along with several bystanders. Afterward she was commended for her decisiveness and offered a promotion, but she refused, instead resigning her position and requesting a transfer to the Logistics Department.

While she won't discuss her reasons, it can be surmised that she holds a very different view of the incident than the other witnesses. She threw herself into her work after transferring, perhaps in an attempt to distance herself from the past, and quickly rose to a managerial position. In the meantime, she kept her skills sharp, whether out of an inability to let go of the past, as a hobby, or simply to be prepared. It paid off when she was called upon to join the Special Task Force after five years in Logistics. Regardless of any personal reasons for avoiding combat, far be it from her to refuse the call of duty.

Miscellaneous Info:
-When using Eye of the Beholder, she has perfect 20/20 vision, but otherwise she's slightly farsighted. To compensate for this, she wears custom-made bifocals with clear lenses built in so that she doesn't need to take off her glasses while using her ability. She has two pairs- a durable sport-type to wear in the field, and another for everyday wear.
-She's not a fan of nicknames. While she might tolerate "Ness" from close friends and family, calling her "Nessie" is a sure way to get punched.
-She was absolutely an obnoxious know-it-all and teacher's pet in school.
-While she does love to unwind with a glass of wine after work, she never allows herself to get drunk.
-Despite spending a lot of time shopping on her days off, she always spends her money efficiently, seldom making impulse purchases. Appreciating the finer things in life is no excuse to be irresponsible, and scoping out the market lets her assess value and compare prices. Besides, window shopping is fun.
-She has a habit of pushing up her glasses whenever she explains something important. This is anime, after all.

If Cresion does decide the abilities are too similar, I don't mind rewriting Aurelia. I had a few different ideas her I could work back too easily enough.

I would feel bad if you did that on my account. I also have some alternate ideas. Maybe we should just flip a coin. XD

I'm fine with whatever XD
Like I said I have ideas as well. I can see the powers similarities, but there's also some differences. Like Aurelias ability is always on while Vanessa has to activate hers, which gives hers the ability to be more impactful, especially in combat. I'm mostly playing Aurelia ability as eidetic memory with the ability to quickly process info, as compared to Vanessa who seems much more tactical about it. Vanessa can quickly sus out an enemies weakness by using logic and calculations as well calculate stuff like wind speed, pressure, distance, bullet drop at the drop of a hat. Aurelia can do that, but she needs to proper equipment to figure it out that quickly. Her processing abilities are more akin to searching the internet in a split second to find out something assuming she's already learned it.

Hi!! To the new RPers!!

Welcome to the RP! We offer you a seat but all you need is the Edge(y)!! Antisocialists Unite!! Lol

Yeah so for Tony he a good dude. Flippant and easygoing and gives enough of a shit to be a good team mate.

Remus is like still joining up and getting over blowing up half a city block (and Rai lol) but he making up for it as a tepid, timid teammate but a good one too.

Then there's Rai... Like I pushed her into this "life-altering trauma" arc so I could cut off some of her edge after facing the big bad basket-case muduo. So like now: She realizes she been saved by Tony, Remus bought her fave cigs as apology and she visiting with her estranged baby sister so she gunna have a change of heart

Imma swap out: Do it myself and Blind hate of enemy (cuz she can't do it herself and she actually got shook by basket case muduo)

Then put: Reluctant to give praise and Holds a torch for old Squad (cuz at least she thinking about others and I posted where she constantly alludes to her old Squad.)

Cuz I want Rai to finally give in to peer pressure and SAVE THE WORLD!! too lol

As much fun as this would be, I’m pretty sure Rai’Shauni has it covered.

K so like it's all goods. Rai played part of the sneaky assassin type in her old Squad. It's just this time around there was no leader telling her to stop trying to beat up everything she encounters. lol So if you wanna do up a bruiser then all goods by me!

I'm fine with whatever XD

Yeah, I can definitely see the different applications of the two abilities. Aurelia could feed the team all sorts of information that would be useful for developing an overall strategy, while Vanessa is more about being decisive in the moment. We'll just have to see what Cresion says.
