"May Stendarr's Mercy Be Upon You"

After the attack by the vampires on the Hall of Vigilantes those who remained went into hiding. Many took refuge with the Dawnguard. However after a few years, word spread that the hall had been rebuilt and from all over Skyrim new recruits and former members of all shapes and sizes traveled to the hall. Of these reformed warriors, a group was selected to specifically hunt the links of mortals and Daedra so that the supernatural could never regain the strength to take them down.

It was two days before they would go out on their first major quest. The Hall of Vigilants had finally been rebuilt from the ashes. ' Like a phoenix' their new leader, Dalin would always quietly chant to himself as he looked fondly over their progress. He was an older man, the oldest remaining vigilant and therefore when Aarik began to build the hall again, he quickly sought him out to remain at the hall and watch over it. It was better then it had ever been before, the wooden walls were now tall stones, the basement was restored and even a second level was built. It now resembled something more like one of the great halls of the Jarls. It was the headquaters that they had long required but never had worked on expanding.

Aarik was currently busy putting the finishing touches on his little room, adjusting the large sword that was hung proudly on the wall. His room was not big. Even though he was a second in command, of sorts, he did not want a large room for himself. Sure he had his own but it was little bigger than the small rooms that were often found at the Inns across Skyrim. It as just large enough for his chest, bed, and a little bit of walking room with a chair in the corner. He didn't want to waste any time while he was here but he did need a break, downstairs was there little kitchen area as well as a lounge of sorts, it was were everyone got to unwind, eat, and chat.

Prying himself from his work he made his way down the wooden steps, the boards gave soft creaks under the lumbering weight of the large nord. Even when he was not clad in his shining iron armor, and instead in his large vigilant robes, he was still quite the beast. " Good morning!" He bellowed with a cheer as reached the bottom of the steps. " Oris, pour me a big mug of mead!" The warmth of the fire flooded into his bones like the embrace of a loved one, he missed having a family but he was slowly gaining one. Of a different kind but family none of the less. And it was warm, and it was good.

Meanwhile Vidya was welcoming, not the warmth of a fire, but the chill of the mountainous air. She sat with her legs cross on a large, cold boulder. Her robes were wrapped tightly around her and her hood rippled lightly from the frigid breeze. In her hand she grasped her long necklace, composed of little silver links, her fingers ran over each one, counting silently ' twenty-four, twenty-five'. As her hands and mind focused on the menial task she was able to let her senses relax and soak in the sound of morning. She could here a gentle cooing in the distance as the thrushes called out to each other, the sound of the pine needles stroking against one another on the mountain side, their sweet smell filling her nose with the scent of their honey-like sap. The most potent smell though was the one of the clean, fresh snow, and the earthy undertone of stone and steel. She loved mornings like this.

((Not as smooth as I'd like it to be but I have to get in the writers mood))

"Decimus Flavius Axilla?"

"
Sir?"

"
Letter for you ... and a big bag of septims to boot."

His stomach twisted in knots and with a trembling hand he took hold of his parcel with a look of complete resignation. He wasn't sure what to expect of the contents, but he had seen scenes like this played out before back in Cyrodiil. Widows weeping and clutching their letters to their breast as they lamented the loss of their husbands. Grief-stricken children who simply stood there stunned as they were loaded up into orphanages by the bucket full. Oh yes, he was no stranger to loss and want ... They had tormented his very being since the day of his birth. Of course, that begged the question: who would even write to him? His ex-guild mates? No, they hated his guts for walking out on them. His parents? Probably not. If they werent dead in some maggot-infested ditch somewhere, they were off languishing their affections upon their true-born children. That left only one individual, one very close individual, who would probably even consider writing to him on the hour of their death.

Cassius ...

He felt his heart constrict a little in his chest at the thought of the man whom he considered his brother to have fallen in battle. Cassius was ten times a better warrior ... No, ten times a better man than he would ever be. What could possibly have happened in order to take him down? The candles flickered a little as he tore open the letter with his pen knife and studied the few lines that had been written.

No ... No ...

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The ex-soldier opened his eyes with a start and glanced cautiously around the room. He could hear the bellowing of Aarik in the background as the unnaturally boisterous nord went about his duties with all the joviality of a cave bear surrounded by bee hives. With a slight groan, Decimus lifted his head blearily and winced as his face stuck a little to the tattered pages of
Immortal Blood. "Isn't it a little early for mead, Aarik?" His eyes turned over to the man as he blinked the last vestiges of sleep away. "We can't afford to have you drunk today, you know."
Now, Decimus could drink mead with the best of them, but it seemed a little too lighthearted given the dire situation the Vigilants were in. Once they had been many ... and now they were but a small hand full trying to salvage whatever could be gained before the vampires attacked again. They needed to be alert ... all of them ... until the mission set upon them was complete. With another weary sigh accompanied by a half-stretch, he got up from the table and paused to look out the almost opaque windows to see if he could spot anything amiss from the tree lines. Gaze lingered upon Vidya as she savored the cool morning air, but then zipped on past to where the clearing was for signs of movement.
"
Are the others not up yet?"
Aarik couldn't count the times people had asked him that, so when he heard someone speak the forbidden words of 'a little early' he immediately perked up and turned in his chair. " Ah Decimus my friend! It is /NEVER too early for one to join in the sweet, sweet, pleasure of mead. Come, sit SIT, you could do well to relax a little." Smiling he took a huge gulp of the mead, practically purring as the warm nectar of the Gods graces his throat. " I swear Deci if you get anymore uptight you're going to start shrinking until you're a tiny little steel knot of tension and bitter feelings." Obviously, the Nord always promoted having a little fun in life and letting loose every now and then. Least someone be consumed by the sorrow and anger of Skyrim's harsh land.
" Just the ones you see here, oh and Vidya has the morning post. " he then pulled the man gently by his arm and whispered...well as quietly as a Nord warrior could. " Between you and I... I don't think the old man has the best judgement putting a blind woman on guard."
" That's offensive Aarik. I'd cry but I don't like it when my cloth gets all soggy." The softest voice of the morning (any voice was gentle after speaking with a Nord, especially Aarik) called from the top of the steps as she made her way down, her thick fur boots not making a sound to be heard. Vidya gave a small smile and pushed back her hood, the white cloth wrapped around her eyes and tied just under her braided bun. She made her way to the bar where the two men were and took a seat at the stool. " I'm not blind... I simply do not have eyes."
" You mages... alright now you explain to me just how I look."
" but I have never seen you, Aarik."
"HA! You ARE blind, Breton!"
" Then explain how I walk without aid, unlike the other blind of Skyrim."
This stumped the Nord and instead of answering he simply drank more mead. " Mages..... Y'hungry? Hey grab the woman some bread would ya?"
" Thank you Aarik... Decimus, how are you?"
She was not certain what his trouble was but she knew the man was troubled, she had felt his grief when they had accidentally brushed arms one day going down the steps. This was not an emotion that was unusual however, she felt that anytime she was near just about any of the vigilants.
Walks-with-smile was always outside in the early mornings. She enjoyed sitting upon the wall and watch the sun rise into it's daily routine. Her tail curled around her and draped gently over the wall. Her robes were for leisure currently, for she had no need to be concerned of battle. She closed her golden eyes and inhaled slowly, enjoying the soft air that came with the mornings. As she listened, she could hear the town coming alive. A smile pulled at her lips as she listened. The stir of birds, the start of a fire, the pulling of a cart, the town was waking and a new day was beginning.
Walks-with-smile stood from her perch and stretched, grabbing the large white staff that lay at her feet. It looked like a tree that held a blue orb. She smiled at it and nodded. "The beginning of a new day!" she said, turning on her heel. She headed toward a vendor, admiring the spread of sweet rolls. "I will take one" she smiled, pulling her coins and hanging him a few gold. "Keep the change for your little ones" she smiled to the dark elf who cooed over her generous contribution. The black argonian let out a sigh as she bit into the sweet roll.
Walks-with-smile began her stroll, keeping her staff like a walking stick as she spoke to the families in town.
Leon wasn't actually asleep, instead he was experimenting with some magic in the basement of the hall. He readied his left hand and pointed it out flat in front of him, his hand began to light up with electricity, he smiled as he shot a large bolt at one of the targets that were there, it caused a loud bang that was not supposed to happen... He sighed, "Curses! Ah well, I guess I'll have to keep practicing.." With that he left the basement and headed up to the main floor, where Aarik and the others were located.
Leon sighed yet emitted a slight chuckle. "Mead? Already? By the Gods you Nords are exactly the same..." He then walked over to the bar where everyone was, sitting at one of the other stalls he nodded at Decimus and Vidya as he got up and leaned up against the nearby wall, thinking abkut the day ahead.
@Oenanthe
Decimus grunted as though unconvinced. "In the Legion, that would have been considered unseemly." However, in spite of these words, the man sighed and crumpled into a seat. "Alright, Aarik. You win. Go ahead and pass the mead this way." By the 8 divines, he could use that drink now that he thought about it a little.
Thrusting an empty mug over in Aarik's direction, the eyes of the sly imperial wandered. He took note of the slightly ajar door to the basement as well as the glowing candle light coming from the bedrooms just a little beyond. "
Am I truly the last one to get up?" He smiled a little at that. Looks like he was losing his touch as a military man if that was the case! The smile faded a little as Aarik pulled him for a little whisper concerning the nature of their morning guard. Taking a contemplative sip of his mead, Decimus turned gaze to the fire. "I have heard stories that those with no earthly eyes have talents of another kind. I am sure the old man knows what he is doing." After all, it wasn't like Dalin was born yesterday. They were all whelps compared to him.
As he took yet another composed sip of mead, he found himself surprised as Vidya nearly snuck up on the both of them. He coughed loudly in startled surprise and wiped the spare excess mead as the woman proceeded down the stairs. "
I told you so ... " he muttered to Aarik before giving the mage a slight bow. "I have had better days ... but then again, we all have I am certain. There is no need to be concerned about me." He was always ready to serve the order in whatever way that was necessary.
@LeSoraAmari
When Leon entered the scene with his quip, Decimus put on another slight smile. "Told you so again." He didn't know the boy very well personally, but remembered seeing him in other divisions during his time in the Legion. It made him feel at ease having another ex-soldier in the room, but he had never said so due to the belief that he would be mocked for his efforts.
It was obvious that Vidya was not convinced in the least but she did not press the matter as another was entering the room, from the sound of his steps it appeared to be Leon. " What's with you Imperials?! Such bores I say! BORES!" Laughing he summoned another mug just for the new companion who had just came up from the basement. " Just try a morning drink, you might find it is perfect for calming the nerves and honing in on the mind." He said tapping his skull with a hearty laugh.
" Not all Nords all the same. Some are angry drunks, some are crying drunks, some are happy drunks like me, and some are wild drunks."
" but ...they are all drunk." Vidya stated as she ordered a glass of milk.
" MILK DRINKER"
" You know, that's the reason why I ordered that." Dipping her bread in the milk she took a small bite and grinned as Aarik laughed at her bold nature. He then proceeded to hit her on the back the way he would do any member of his family but she was a small woman. Nearly half his height and weight. This cause her to nearly choke on her bread and wince.
"Aarik I swear to the gods above, you will be the death of me." She would have rolled her eyes if she still had them but instead she just looked ahead and spoke "Goodmorning Leon, I assume practice went well from all the sound you were making?" It was always comforting in a way to hear the erratic explosions of magic in the morning. After all she was raised in the collage.
@Whisker @LeSoraAmari
Leon chuckled as Aarik made his remark, "I wouldn't say we are bores, I'd say we are just sensible enough to not drink first thing in the morning. Besides, what do you thing the General of a Legion would say if they saw one of their men drinking on their watch? Hm? It isn't a wise thing to do, I'm sure Decimus will agree with me on that. He sighed as he scratched his head "Although, my Magus-General was incredibly boring. All he cared about was bedding women. Pig." He looked at the Nord when he explained the different types of drunken Nords, to which Leon replied "Well by the looks of it you're a mixture of all four..." As he said that Aarik ordered another mug of mead for Leon to drink, but Leon refused and instead handed it back to him, "I couldn't get drunk first thing. That's unprofessional. And besides, I'd very much prefer some colovian brandy" with that he sighed as he heard Vidya spoke to him. He smiled to her and nodded, "I suppose it went alright, thank you for asking. Although it could have gone better, I just have to focus my magicka a little more and the spell will be perfect.." He chuckled as he began to flip a septim as he leant against the wall.
Decimus chuckled over the rim of his tankard. "That or the Centurions would toss you in the stockades for being drunk as a skunk on watch." He, himself, has never been placed in the stockades, though a few unfortunate underlings he was stationed with in Castle Dour had found their way there from time to time. Leon, of course, was chiming in by this point and Decim found himself nodding sagely at all the right points. He would scowl in distaste and sympathy when he heard about the bad habits of his commanding officer, but looked thoroughly unsurprised. "My commander did no such thing fortunately. I served up at Solitude so it kind of makes sense." With the whispers of civil war brewing in the air and the very thought that General Tullius might come there in person, Rikke took no chances with the men serving under her turning into louts. Gray eyes would narrow shrewdly at Aarik and he gave Vidya a wink even though she wouldn't see it. "And all are exceedingly loud." After a brief chuckle at Aarik's expense, the man sighed through his nostrils and turned gaze to the window. "When is the meeting today? Did Dalin say?" Though it had only been hinted at, Decimus was already feeling a bit antsy at finally having the opportunity to unleash vengeance upon the cursed Daedra. After all, the hall was almost completed and a hand full of vigilants were already back at work. One of them, Tolan, had reportedly gone to the Dawnguard for aid some time ago ... Decimus had wanted to go with him when he left, but the latter had told him to stay and guard the hall instead of meeting with Isran. He hadn't regretted it ... much ... but still he was eager for more.
Aarik rolled his eyes at them with a grin, after promptly finishing his first mug he continued to drink the one that was originally offered to and declined by Leon. " Hah, you Imperials are so different from the mighty Nordic warriors of old." He said proudly. " In our great armies we would always drink and sing before a battle, even early ones. Legends are told of the horror that was struck into the hearts of our foes as they gazed upon hundreds of large, armor clad, Nordic men; beating their chest and letting out ear deafening roars of conquest. Ah the glory days." Taking another gulp of his mead he then took to looking around and trying to guess what time it was by the sun streaming in the windows.
" He said it would be later in the morning, once everyone had their bearings. Which mean it is likely going to be a fairly important announcement but you never know with that old man. "
Vidya meanwhile had faded into the background and was enjoying the deep vibrating tones that radiated from the mens chest. There was something oh so comforting in those low vibrations that nearly every male gave off. Maybe it reminded of laying on her fathers chest while he told stories but it was just kind of relaxing to her. It didn't matter what they were talking about really at this point. Just so long as they were talking. She finished her bread and decided to use her chewing as a distraction so not to blow the secret. One thing about seeing possible near future outcomes was that the likely outcome was usually right and she usually knew the secrets before others did. So she was most certain they would be sent out to kill Daedra even if the vigilants didn't know what the quest was.
" Vidya...you're pleasantly quiet." Aarik finally said, looking to her. " What do you know?"
" That bread is better when you don't ground the wheat too fine so it still has some crunch to it."
" I hate you small woman...."
Walks-with-smile had made her rounds around town. The children were bouncing around her as she walked, telling her grand stories of adventures they dreamt of having. Her gentle smile welcomed each child they came for a visit as she walked. The parents of the children didn't really mind that they followed her each morning, and neither did she. One parent, however, did have a problem with her child coming near Walks-with-Smile.
"I have told you a million times, stay away from that scaly beast" came the voice of the frustrated mother. She was a dark elf and was holding her child firmly by the arm. The little boy cried, begging his mother to let him play with the Argonian. "No! I will not have her corrupting you!" hissed the mother. Her eyes glaring at the peaceful argonian. Walks-with-smile simply gave a gentle smile to the two and continued on her way. The children grabbed her tail and carried it behind her, as if it were some type of cloak. She chuckled, stopping in front of the Hall. "Now now children. You must go home and tend to your duties" she gently said. A large amount of "Awwww"''s rose from the children as the begun to head back home.
Walks-with-smile lifted a gentle hand, pushing on the large doors to the hall. Warm air leaked from the room and covered her scales like a blanket. Many were already gathered in the hall, drinking and eating. Walks-with-smile walked quietly, her barefeet barely making a sound against the cool floor. She moved quietly towards the fire, resting her staff against the wall and warming her hands in front of it.
Opi grumbled as the booming voice of Aarik rattled him to waking. He sat up in bed and rubbed the sleep from his eyes. He had been up very late the night before doing research in the Hall's library. He stood up and dressed in his proper vigilant robes, knowing he had been scheduled to have an important meeting with Dalin today.
"Aarik, we will never need a rooster as long as you're the first one out of bed." He half jested as he groggily stumbled his way into the dining hall. "But at least I'll always have someone else to drink with." He said with a lazy smile as he sat down at a table. "Oris, a glass of wine, please. It's too early for mead." Opi handed the man a septim for his service and raised his glass in Oris' direction. "Thank you, good sir." He took a short but indulgent sip of the hearty red wine. It warmed him all the way to his belly. He turned to the group. "So is anyone quite sure why old man Dalin has gathered us this morning?"
@Oenanthe
Decimus smiled wryly over at his comrade. "Ah yes, here we go again with the drinking and singing! You Nord warriors really do only have a one track mind." It was quite an admirable trait really. Though it was quite amazing none of those Nord warriors he spoke of had ever died of kidney failure given how much mead and ale they put down just before battle. Sipping his own pint of mead in a more dignified fashion than his friend, Decimus glanced upwards as Opi entered the room.
@ShakenNotStirred @LeSoraAmari
Ah, so I wasn't the last one up after all ...
"
Leon and I were just talking about that." Aarik had probably never used an inside voice even once in his entire life. Not that he begrudged the man for it, but it took some getting used to for sure. As talk and rumors began circulating about Dalin and the urgent meeting he had scheduled for that day, Decimus leaned in and began to put his listening skills to work. He was as interested in the topic as Opi was and the gray eyes would linger on Vidya just a tad longer than she probably would have liked ...
@FlawlezFalcon
It was fortunate for her that Walks-With-Smile arrived to break up the almost conspiratorial mood. "Ah ... morning, Smiley. See anything interesting out there?" He had known some traders and their children had set up in front of the hall in order to sell them goods used for rebuilding the hall. Decimus had never dealt with them himself, but he had seen the Argonian maiden out there with them from time to time when it was his turn to be on guard.
Walks-with-smile looked over to Devon is and gave a gentle smile. "Good morning" she said, her head gently k nodding towards him. "I see we have broken open the keg already" she joked, motioning to the mug of mead he was drinking. She gently tucked her hands into the long sleeves of her robe as she begun to talk with Decimus. "Nothing very interesting at all. Same ol same ol it seems" she shrugged. She walked to where the alcohol was, helping herself to some honey wine. She never let anyone serve her unless it were absolutely necessary.
She walked back to Decimus, her feet padding silently on the hard floor. Her gold eyes shifted over him and his traditional meeting attire. "I see we are already prepared for the day" she said, smiling his way. Her head tilted a but, causing the feathery plume on her head to Bob a bit. Walks-with-smile gently rested her glass down, watching the thick sweet liquid swirl around in the glass.
@Whisker
" I am sorry, what part of I am blind but I can still see do none of you dunderheads understand? No staring." She laughed lightly and gave a dismissal wave of the hand, her version of an eye roll. " I am not telling you, plus I don't know for certain. I just have a solid 90% chance of knowing what it is. I can only see the most possible outcome of the near future. Not what is definitely going to happen for all eternity." Vidya clarified before hopping down from the stool and walking forward, bumping lightly into the side of the arm of the argonian " Oh, sorry Walks-With-Smiles, miscalculated just a little. Goodmorning. I'd stay and chat with you too but I want to get a good early seat for today's meeting. I hate trying to see over people's heads." Snickering she exited and headed downstairs to the meeting room.
@FlawlezFalcon
Walks-With-Smiles, or Smiley as Aarik had come to call her, was one of his favorite people, creature, things. The nord in him still couldn't see her as a fellow but he didn't look down on her either, she was just something different. " See, now that's my girl right there!" He beamed over. Aarik always enjoyed sharing a good drink and a laugh with the argonian and prefered her company to that of the Imperials, they were a bit too snobby. She had suffered through, all of her people had. The strife made them better for it and not as arrogant, they appreciated what they had more. " I wish it were mead but at least you didn't scoff at a good morning refresher."
" Well, I think I am going to down the rest of this mug then I think I am going to head on down and see if that old man is ready. I'd hate for Vidya to get ahead of the game anymore than she already is." Him and Vidya had an ongoing sibling rivalry. She was wise and cunning, he was strong resilient. They were always trying to undermine the other in a playful way. If it came down to it though he would protect this little adopted sister of his.
Walks-with-smile perked up as she heard Aarik's voice boom above the rest. It didnt matter where he was, the nord could draw attention faster than a flame draws a fly. "Aarik, you cannot wake in the morning without the burn of alcohol in your belly. A grumpy nord is more fearsome than a dragon" she smiled, raising her glass to him. She liked his voice. He always seemed to be laughing and his voice made the air vibrate with energy. They could tease each other for hours and never get offended it seemed. Walks-with-smile sipped her wine, her tail curling around her feet as the wine warmed her belly. Her clawed hand wrapped around her staff as Aarik made mention of going downstairs. It was as if the staff came to life at her touch. The blue orb began to glow with the throb of her pulse.
Walks-with-smile had always made Opi uncomfortable. She was really one of the only Argonians he had ever truly known, and his time spent with the Dunmer had left a stale taste in his mouth regarding her people. He had never been open with his dogmatic prejudice, and was always poilte. Half out of respect for their union under the just cause of Stendarr, and the rest because he would never want to offend Aarik. He was a strong friend, and an even stronger enemy.
Opi had already finished most of his first glass of wine, and was feeling pleasant enough for a kind head nod and a smile to Walks-with-smile. "Hello, Walks-with-smile. Good morning." He acknowledged the Argonian politely. "You guys go ahead. I don't mind standing in the back. If this is bad news, I hear it goes down best with wine." He gave a toothy grin and a wink, sucked down what was left, and called Oris over for one more glass before heading out.
Decimus gave Smiley a warm grin in return. It seemed like it had been forever since he talked with the Argonian. He had almost forgotten how cheerful her disposition could be under the right circumstances. In fact, she reminded him of another Argonian he had grown up with in the orphanage. Both smiled an awful lot and were bright even in the worst of times. He wondered absently to himself if they were related somehow ...His silent musings were interrupted by Vidya to which he bowed his head sheepishly when he was caught.
Damn, she really does see everything ...!
He didn't know exactly how she did it, but then again, he wasn't blessed with the talent of magic either. All he knew was what he had been told by the old wives that used to live in the waterfront district back when he was in the guild. Rumors of the blind having eyes granted by Mara ... or some divine of that nature. He couldn't quite remember. Shifting a little as Aarik got up from his place, Decimus frowned a little as the man spoke of heading down. "Are you sure? I don't think everyone is here yet ..." Or at least everyone that Dalin told to come. Still, even though he had reservations about rushing the old man, he found his body moving on auto-pilot as he quickly began gulping down the rest of his mead. He didn't know exactly what the meeting was about but he had his suspicions just like everyone else.
Had the day finally come?
Despite the solemnity of his personal moment, Decimus found himself smiling grimly into his glass. The smile faded, of course, when the mead was finished, and he took his time before calling Oris to come relieve him of his glass. He needed to take a moment and slow down or his inner
thirst was going to run away with him ...
@FlawlezFalcon
Aarik grinned and patted the argonian on the shoulder as softly as he could when he got excited..which wasn't too soft but not enough to hurt her through her thick scales of course. " Ha! See, now SHE has an understanding of us Nords. Though I'll give it to you lizards. I am convinced you are half dragons yourselves. How else would such a being come to be. " It probably sounded a bit crude but he really was complimenting her in the best way a Nord could by saying she possessed dragon blood. After all, the only other ones who could claim that was their honored and beloved tales of the mighty Dragonborns. Their most revered warriors.
@ShakenNotStirred @Whisker
The Nord looked now to the two Imperial men and shrugged. " Let them be late, the old man will probably take some time to get himself together anyway. Best we probably head down there now and start getting ourselves together so that whatever he has in store, we will be ready for. Devines know he hates to be kept waiting even though he does that to us all of the time." He wanted to be able to go ahead and be waiting so that when he did finally arise from his elderly slumber that they could get right to it ASAP rather than having to try rally everyone awake and downstairs into their little meeting area. That would just be a real pain in the ass that he just didn't feel like dealing with.
He took his time finishing his last mug before Aarik finally forced himself to a stand and decided to make his way down the steps and took place at one of the seat around the ovular table, the large crackling fire in the center keeping them nice and toasty. Not that he needed it but not all of the races in his company were cut out for the kind of harsh, bitter cold that Skyrim had to offer.
Leon sighed and scratched his head as he stopped flipping his septim, he moved away from the bar and went to sit at a table not too far away from it. "Ah Walks-With-Smile seems to like a drink in the morning as well?" He laughed slighty, he liked the Argonian, and felt quite sorry for her kin. As he sat at the table he opened uo the palm of his left hand, he was eager to try out his new spell on some daedric scum. He made a tiny spark appear in his palm as he said, "I wonder what the old man wants this time, but somehow I think it is going to be very important... I guess we'll just have to wait and see.." With that he got up and followed Aarik down to the table, he sat at one of the seats located there.
Decimus gave Aarik a curt nod. "Aye." Though he didn't look it, the old man had been a warrior once just like them. A good man. A good vigilant, or so he had been told. It seemed only natural that the elder would rise to a position of power following the collapse of the hall. He had survived ... where so many of their brothers and sisters had not. It was also him that sent Tolan away to talk to the Dawnguard while they relocated their powers to this location and focused on rebuilding their hall. He surely had to have something in mind by now ... or else he wouldn't be calling them all here to begin with.
Climbing to his feet after Aarik, Decimus nodded towards Leon and Smiley as all four came drifting down the stairs to take seats at the great table that had been made just for them. There was a large sweltering fire going nearby but it only made Decimus wriggle a little in discomfort. Though he hailed straight from the temperate Imperial City, he had long gotten used to Skyrim's frigid nature during his time as a scout. He was sure Leon at the very least would understand when he chose the seat as far away from the fire as possible.
Now there is not much left to do but wait ...
It didn't take Dorian too long to join the vigilantes that had assembled and was eagerly awaiting knowledge on what might be going on. He was a tall slender man with a large grey beard a drooping face, however he was a Nord so he still retained some degree of muscle and might. Though at this point in his life he was more of a scholar than a the fierce warrior he had once been. In his prime he had slayed many Deadra, vampires, werewolves, and those of the like, regarded as one of the best vigilantes around. So it was no surprise that when the Hall was attacked that he had been out having a meeting with a nearby Jarl. Ironically, the meeting was in regards to the recent outburst of vampire attacks all over the local halls of Skyrim.
Eventually he made his way to the chair at the head of the table and very slowly lowered himself onto it. " Goodmorning everyone, I trust we all slept well." There was a small pleasant murmur that went across the table as people all nodded. Just about every vigilant in the Hall was here now. Filling up the table and with one or two standing. It was really only met for small meetings but there was room for the extras around the wall. " This will not take long." He said simply before clearing his throat.
" So everyone here is well aware of what we have gone through to rebuild this. It is time to make our stand and show any who refuse to bend to the light that we will not be so easily snuffed out. That is why I have made the decision to form a small elite band of our warriors to hunt after their most precious items, the Deadric Artifacts, and destroy them. Trips will be long and dangerous. I wish I could send more but I do not dare. It will be easier to get through with several warriors than a whole group that might draw attention. That is why I have hand selected, Leon, Ori, Vidya, Walks-With-Smiles, Decimus, and to head the operation, Aarik. Congratulations, you have a day to prepare before I give you your first assignment, you are all dismissed."
"Good morning everyone, I trust we all slept well?"
While everyone nodded and whispered their own sentiments, Decimus remained rigidly silent. The former thief and soldier hadn't slept very well in a long time. Always when it seemed he would finally be able to rest easily, something terrible happened and jolted him back into reality. That was how it had been for several years now and probably would remain for the duration of his life. He needed to remain alert and vigilant ... always.
So while the noise died down, Decimus leaned in and fixated the old warrior with his keen grey eyes. He would remain composed through out the duration of the old man's speech and nod in approval once he was finished.
It was finally time he could take his revenge to the daedric scum!
Of course, he did have a question about this plan though and was first to rise up onto his feet, tapping the table for silence only once before people left.
"
Pardon me for interrupting, sir, but I must inquire as to what daedric artifact we are going to pursue first? There are several in Skyrim at the moment as the cultists steadily moved north out of Cyrodiil following the Great War and the White Gold Concordant. It would take time to hunt them all so I suggest we go after the ones that pose the greatest threat to our cause first before going after the Daedric cults that have traditionally been no threat to our order."
Daedric Princes such as Meridia, Azura, and Sanguine had always been somewhat of a nuisance to the order but never anything more than that. They did not cause abominations and neither were they a threat to humans directly. Indeed, there were some in Skyrim who held Meridia and Azura on pedestals as the "good" daedric princes. While he did not care so much if they found and destroyed their artifacts, he did care about the safety of the hall while they were away. With most of their warriors out on this quest, it would be so heavily open to yet another attack by divines only knows what ... If they could take a direct approach and draw attention away from the hall while they were out, they just might have a home to return to when this whole business ended.
