"Maybe we should just start walking." Saige wasn't sure what they were supposed to do. She supposed that she had never gotten this far in her fantasies about leaving. She always imagined getting out, but never where she would go after she was out. She inhaled, pulling the last breath of cold, clean Vault air into her lungs before taking a step forward.


The first things she noticed was the way her feet sunk into the ground. For her entire life, she had walked on steel floors and now her feet were touching the grass and the dirt. It was different. Not bad, just strange and unknown. She looked back at Terry and smiled. Her heart was beating out of her chest. Blood rushing through her. This was happening. She was out. It may have just been one step but it was a step outside of the metal box she had lived in for so long, away from the past nineteen years, away from her mother's death and her father's absence, and away from...Richie.


Her eyes caught sight of the other boy across the way. She bit her lip. Should she say something? Wish him well maybe? He probably didn't want to speak to her anyway. They had been strung thin over the last year and didn't really talk much anymore. After the breakup it almost became like she didn't exist to him. Maybe it was for the better anyway. The only thing that mattered now was that she was here, with Terry, and they were starting this new life, this new adventure together.

"No." was all Alexander could say, starring at his RobCo terminal "No fuckin way, no fuckin way..." but his monitor said something else, the vault was open, Vault 76, one of the three that stood in the vicinity of Suffolk. "Wow..." this was so bizarre for him, from the vault tec brochures he managed to scavenge, and the seminars he'd attended these things were built to be lived in for hundreds, maybe even thousands of years. Though the latter was probably business puffery.


Alex walked to his broadcast studio, where he often spent time reporting the news of the wastes for his audience and those who could be fucked to listen to his occassionally drunken ramblings and regular reports on the news. He sat his usual post, his naked buttocks gracing the seat with their presence "Hello all, this is Radio Suffolk with your favorite host with the most H-Bomb! And boy do we have some news for you!" he said, taking a sip from the nuka cola he had opened last night.


"Everyone out here has heard of vault seventy six right? One of those big steel doors in the ground built to last. Well ladies and lads, the vault door according to my sources, the vault has just opened and I would love to have someone verify the report for me." he said with his usual charismatic tone "A reward of fifty caps will be rewarded to our lucky caller. If you can get us an interview with one of the dwellers."


"If you have any info, please ring in to my lovely assistant Dina, now, back to the tunes." Alex left the room, and put Dean Domino's greatest hits on, he passed by Dina, a Protectotron which had been repurposed to run Radio Suffolk should Alex need to scavenge some, and take calls from those in the wastes who had ham radios. "See you baby." he said, beginning to get some of his old armor on "I have some dwellers to meet."

 

[Endless Winter]

Adam looked at the human being held off the ground by two of his patrolmen. The man was malnourished, that was evident. His rib cage provided a gaunt frame to stretch the cancerous ruin of his skin. The human was filthy, and balding. He was turning ghoul. Adam rose from his throne of stacked metal cases.


"HUMAN! SPEAK!" He roared, furious at the disgusting thing prostrated before him which scuttled like a roach and whimpered. Why he was furious was beyond him, he just understood the feeling and vocalized it.


"Please...I-I-I can help you! I was a doctor, I can keep you alive!" The scrawny thing covered its face as if to hide itself. Hilarious. David laughed uproariously, causing his smaller brothers to join in nervously. The doctor looked confused, breathing heavily as if he was unsure whether or not to laugh with them or keep crying. Adam lurched over to his throne and seized his favorite toy, a newly liberated Louisville slugger with a layer of barbed wire and nails protruding at angles from the end to the grip. Adam quickly sprung back to the doctor and brought the bat down in a vicious overhand strike that vaporized the doctor's skull and upper torso, ripped the bat free from the corpse and swung again, this time completely bissecting the corpse through sheer force. The sound of the mans hip cracking sent shivers running down Adam's spine.


"YOU GO BACK TO THE GATE!" David yelled at the two dumbfounded super mutants. He tossed his bat back to where it had been resting and set about placing the two halves of the man on a length of chain link fence over a fire to roast. The man wouldn't feel like much, but anything was better than nothing. He had thought the national guardsman armory would be a surefire winner as far as attracting new prey went, but so far the group hadn't been so lucky. Fortunately, the nearby hospital had been a popular target for scavengers, and through that location he was able to keep his horde fed and well armed.

Shane had ran and ran and ran, the vault was opening and he was gonna be late! With his briefcase in hand and his jacket on, he continued to run. The years that had passed when he remembered the last time he had seen the outside world. As he accidentally bumped into several people, he fell as he caught his briefcase and picked it back up. People were starting to leave, he grasped onto his dad's "Ace of Spades" and smiled, feeling the beauty of the bright light from the outside sun. He kept a grin as he ran out but suddenly tripped, falling with a grunt as he fell down facefirst outside of the vault, tripping on the vault door's bottom frame. He didn't care, he felt the ground and felt the light as he suddenly realized his father's card was not in his hand and was near another person's pair of feet.

Saige was startled by the sudden sound a body hitting the ground behind her. She turned and but her lip, fighting the giggle that wanted to escape her lips. She knelt down, picking up the red card that rested beside her feet.


"I think you dropped something." She stood and reached a handout to help the guy up. She handed him back his card, "An aces man, huh?" She said as noticed the ace of spades.

He heard the sound of a giggle as he blushed slightly, revealing the person's feet to be of a female. He smiled slightly as he took her hand and stood up, taking his card back with a nod. "It's my dad's lucky card, before the war, hoping I can possibly find him out here if he survived the war and the aftermath", he replied with a grateful nod. "I'm Shane", he replied as he held out a hand with a soft smile.

If Terry was being perfectly honest with himself, leaving the Vault was a...bittersweet experience. As difficult as keeping up with education and training was, he still had fond memories of his time there. At the very least, he was relatively safe in the giant metal can. Out here, there was uncertainty and blindness. (And peanuts, but he didn't know about that just yet). He followed Saige's gaze over to Richard. Terry hadn't really considered the other boy a threat after Saige had broken up with him, but he figured that it would be prudent to ask around about him from time to time. As cold as the thought was, Terry would have been perfectly fine if he never saw the other boy again.


Terry blinked at the young man--Shane--who seemed a little eccentric. He sought out his father. A worthwhile endeavor, but rather unlikely; he doubted that Shane would ever see his dad alive again. On the other hand, some people had all the luck in the world, and Terry wasn't about to tell him about his odds.

"Saige."


Her lips tugged up into a smile. She turned to look at Terry, almost looking for approval to invite this boy to join them. She knew she didn't need it though. Saige was independent, she did what she wanted, even if it seemed like a silly idea. She thought it was brave of this boy to search for his father. Although she wasn't quite sure how Shane had ended up in the Vault without him.


"Look, me and Terry are heading out to scout around the area...do you want to join us? Three's company, after all."


She was quite positive that was the old saying, although she could be wrong. She had never been all too familiar with old phrases. Her mother had always used them when she was around, but once she died they became few and far between, especially once her father stopped hanging around. She wondered where he was. If he was even going to come out of the Vault. For all she knew he would stay and hunker down in the metal bunker, never coming out to see the light of day again. But that was his choice and she certainly wouldn't let it affect her.

*After the drama unfolded, Richie finally decided to step out. Not that he was a coward, but he didn't feel the line of danger was too necessary. He watched as the people stumbled outside anxiously and dazed at the blinding light of the sun. Hell, it was mad bright, the vast wastes were endless. Onward, he would make the journey alone. Out the duffel bag, he tuged at the shotgun and discarded the bag the the step of the vault. He held it in his fist and stepped over the stones on the trail. Against the rock face; out in the distance was a small patch of land that had a few tents and wooden structures. That's a better start. Maybe they'll have Absinthe and work.

He looked at his hand and held up the lone card, flipping it around he gently rubbed the back red of the card with a soft smile. "I'll find you dad.. alive or not, I'll find you", he thought to himself. He kept the smile as he heard Saige asking if he wanted to join her and another male dweller's group, a group of three, not too big, not too small. He slipped the card into it's rightful position, on his wrist, right in the slit underneath the Pipboy and the wrist. He looked back at her with his smile and nodded, his briefcase back in hand, "Sounds like an adventure."

Terry glanced sideways at Saige, as if to say, Are you serious? Sure, they had come from the same vault, but that didn't mean that the boy wasn't dangerous. When it came down to it, could they really trust Shane? He doubted so. He knew that Saige could probably take the card-carrying kid, but if the element of surprise was factored in...the two of them could end up with bullets in their backs.


Nonetheless, Saige seemed to trust Shane enough to invite him along, so Terry went along with the whole deal with a smile. "Sounds great!" Terry exclaimed in faux excitement, his voice just grounded enough not to sound sarcastic, though he figured Saige would realize what he was thinking. "The more the merrier," he added with a chirp. It was like becoming another person, putting on a facade like this, but Terry was used to it; slipping into a separate persona's skin like a glove.

*Richie didn't look back at his fellow vault dwellers, instead, he tightened his duster and rested the shotgun on his shoulder. He walked for half a mile and grew closer to town. As he approached, he saw small figures walk among the horizon. A farming settlement it seemed to be. Richie had high hopes in going toward the towns of the ruins of the old world. This would have to do. His thoughts were interrupted after he nearly tripped over something on the dusted ground.*


"Whoa--"


*He caught his footing and turned to what made him nearly vomit. Not even twenty minutes in the wastes, he saw a fraction on what it had to offer -- A bandit. His corpse dried up for what seemed like days. Insects buzzed around his frozen dirty face; his limbs loosely grounded. It appears that he was beaten to death. The bandit was dressed in crudely made armor, he had a baseball bat near him. May as well check him... he wont be needing this no more. On his person luckily were a few shotgun shells, some bottle caps, and a toy car. How strange, Richie thought. Richie rose and began walking away from the corpse until his feet scuffled across a mask. A beige colored mask. He slowly picked it up and observed it. The voices began chattering and before he knew it, he walked with it in is hand.*

Saige furrowed her brow at Terry's first remark. The first sign of likely many that should have told her he didn't want Shane along. She couldn't help it though. He had a valiant mission and she was willing to help. Then again, she had never been one to take a chance. Sure, she was inviting this boy along, but that didn't mean in any way that she trusted him. He was one of their own, after all, and Vault dwellers were certainly crafty.


She brushed off Terry's well hidden disregard though and pulled on the straps of her backpack. The weight of her things pulling against the muscles in her shoulders. Things would be interesting, that was for sure. She figured they should do their best to find some sort of shelter before darkness came around. There had to be a town nearby. She remembered her mom talking about how the Vaults had been strategically placed around large cities to accommodate the dwellers when the Vaults opened.


"Which way first, kids?"


Her toes wiggled in her boots, eager to get moving. Their group seemed to be one of few who were leaving. Most people had remained at the opening, gaping, their mouths wide open. She turned to take a final look at the metal box, noticing fort the first time Richie's absence. He had been here just a moment ago. He was probably just as eager to get out of there as Saige was though. That was one thing they had always had in common, their need to get out. She remembered a time, a few years back, when they had been planning all the things they would do once they got out. That was long before any of the difficulties of their relationship had come into play, though, and she desperately wished things weren't quite so strained between them now.


In other circumstances, it would've been her, Terry, and Richie heading out into this great big world together. But here and now, it was her, Terry, her boyfriend, and Shane, the boy searching for his father. This was going to be one hell of an adventure.

Goas

Goras moved into the vault and found why it had taken so long to open the doors, everyone was dead. It took Goras second to figure out what had caused all the death, not that it would take anyone long, when he saw the robots and corpses in battle lines with the bodies of the humans on the defense and the robots remains on the attack. It had to be one of vault techs experiments though why they would test this he could not tell. Goras debated if he should just leave the vault as likely everything was dead, but something made him stay a sense that perhaps there was something of interest here. Well it was a vault empty and ripe for the taking so of course it was interesting this place could make a great den, also it was a vault free from destruction so its technology should be good.


Goras moved in deeper into the vault and found it was stocked with food water and nuka cola of every kind these dwellers had everything they could have wanted, that had to have played some part in the test, but what part Goras could not tell. He continued though the halls wondering if anything was left this question was answered when her heard something.


"who's ready to get their ass kicked?' a floating robot said as it charged him its flame thrower activating and bathing Goras in hot flames.


Goras growled in pain and lashed out leaving deep gashes into the robot. This apparently was enough to destroy this one robot as it had been damaged before as Goras could see many bullet holes in the machines frame. This was not a good sign for humans having won this fight, but Goras had expected them all to have died anyways.

Illuta

Illuta moved in the shadows, which was the only reason she had survived when all the others were dead. She had wanted to get out and had taken one of the wrist things from a body they did lots of things in the vault so she guessed it could open the door. She had been right but the door hadn't been quiet it had been very loud and it had been a struggle to get the door open as the metal monsters kept coming and closing it. Now the robots were out in force looking for something that illuta knew wasn't her at least, so maybe this thing that had come into the vault could help her get away from the monsters.

"Well, we should probably figure out a few things first," Terry said, turning away from the Vault, his family, and the life he had known. "Like food. Water. Medicine. That sort of thing. Then again, we don't know if there's a settlement nearby, or any supplies left. So if you ask me, the best course of action is to find a good overlooking point with enough cover to not be spotted. Just in case there's any undesirables around." In the Vault, Terry would most likely find himself forced to give orders, as much as he was content to take them. It wasn't that he was the smartest of whatever group he found himself a part of, but people seemed to gravitate towards him. He seemed to be well-liked (for the most part), but no one had seemed to really know who he was, what he liked to do or what his thoughts were.


But that was all behind him now--literally. He had to be willing to do whatever was necessary to ensure that this little group, or at the very least Saige, remained safe. It wasn't going to be an easy task by any means, but there was a little excitement mixed in with the anxiety; the thought that Terry could die at any moment was the slightest bit thrilling.


Terry peered out at Richard until he disappeared from sight. He let out a soft breath. Best case scenario, they'd never have to deal with that guy again. He was smart, and could probably take care of himself, but Terry doubted that, with his attitude, he'd be able to be more than a survivor. Out here, however, that was often all anyone wanted to be.

Shane took a glance at his Pipboy monitor, no rads for a few kilos here, the area seeming clear, not a bad start for the first step out of a vault. "I agree with Terry", Shane replied as he examined the small map on the Pipboy, "There's a small hill to the West of us, seems to be a good scouting point for now." "Resources are also an essential", he replied with a nod as well. "I actually think I have something here that may help us..", Shane muttered a little as he kneeled down and proceeded to fix a combination into his briefcase. Before it opened however, he connected his Pipboy into his briefcase and the extra safety lock was disengaged, nothing better than a second pair of protection from looters.


He slowly opened up his case, revealing old photos of him, his mother, and his father, both together, and photos of his father standing alone and with his friends, all in the military. To the side, his caravan deck and a couple of caps and loose paper wads of prewar currency. To the opposite side, 3-4 bottles of purified bottles of water and a small box of crackers, nothing better than preparing. With a medkit in the top cover of the case, Shane reached down and pulled out a small box and blew away the dust, revealing an old batch of tapes labeled "Key to Survival" with the Vault-Tec Logo on the top.


"Nothing more than a cover-up", Shane said quietly as he pulled out "Key to Survival 1" and closed the case, slipping everything back in place, "Had to put a Vault-Tec sticker on it, make them think it's one of their own or else I couldn't keep it." As he slipped it in his Pipboy and pushed play, a man spoke, a lower, deeper gruff man but still with passion in his voice could be heard instead of the usual happy-go-lucky Vault-Tec spokesperson as the holotape played aloud.


"-Alright son, knowing I hate those sons of bitches Vault-Tec whatever the hell you call 'em, can't trust 'em don't ask don't worry, Now if I remember correctly, that Vault you're in should open in a few years and knowing me I will be fighting for the military without a doubt, and your mother, well, probably a little chicken to leave the Vault, you should know I made these little audio logs for you, nothing better than an old man telling of ways to watch yourself yeah? Well, knowing the Vault bastards will make you toss 'em out involving anybody involving the military a little fox like you would hide 'em, So hopefully these will aid you in helping you out when you leave that stinking Vault without me to guide you-"

Saige was definitely surprised at the way Terry took charge. Sure, he had always been the charismatic type and typically when in groups was given the leadership responsibility. Saige had never thought he enjoyed it though. She shrugged it off though, accounting it to habit. He did have a good point though. They needed to find supplies. What little she had packed in her bag wouldn't last them long.


She adjusted her bag again and smiled, pushing her short blonde hair out of her face. "Sounds like a plan." She watched curiously as Shane opened the briefcase, taking note of the code he used, she never knew when something like that could come in handy. Over the years, Saige had become very good at observing people, she had to be to do her job effectively. Everything she saw or heard was catalogued in the back of her mind, saved to make connections with later.


Saige's smile fell as she watched Shane pull tapes from the briefcase. Where on earth had those come from? They had the Vault-Tec logo on them but when he popped the cassette into his Pipboy, a man's gruff, deep voice emitted from the tiny speakers, rather than the cheery tone that usually came with Vault-Tec issued tapes. As she listened to the tape, she realized that this must be Shane's father. The photos in his briefcase further proved her idea and she knelt down to take a closer look, doing her best to appear to be listening to the tape and not staring at his things.


There were numerous photos stuck to the inside of the briefcase. Multiple photos of a man, who she assumed to be Shane's dad, along with pictures of a young, pretty woman. Shane's mother. There were other photos of his father with groups of men, all in uniform. His father had been a soldier then. An admirable job, in her opinion. Soldiers sacrificed themselves for the greater good, something Saige would've jumped at doing if given the chance.


She stood back up and turned to face Terry. They needed to get moving soon. At this point, they were one of few groups who weren't still in the Vault or already going out.


"We can listen to that while we walk. We've got to go though, it'll be dark soon, and who knows what goes bump in the night out here."

*Richie ended up making due in a small grate he found while walking. After anxiously exploring, it turned out to be a 3 room emergency bunker, symbols bearing a sword and gears was on a torn up banner that was held on the wall by threads. It had a few cots, chests, and chairs. It was by the most part barren for a few years. Richie moved things around to adjust his comfort and managed to craft a lock for the grate. This would be his new home... for now. It smelled like bacon and hemroids, but it was home. Richie leaned back in the cot that was surprisingly intact and sturdy, for a long moment, he stared at the mask he found*

Terry politely turned away as Shane entered the combination into his...briefcase (kind of an odd thing to carry around a wasteland, in his opinion, but who was he to judge?), though he peeked over his shoulder to glance at the tape and the photos contained within. The photos seemed highly personal, so he tried his best not to stare at them, though he figured that they were of his parents. More importantly, he didn't see any weapons, but that didn't mean Shane wasn't armed. One could never truly know what another person was planning.


It was a little weird, to be honest; a part of Terry felt like it was prudent to "accidentally" take a look at Shane's belongings. After all, there was very little that he knew about the other boy, despite their living proximity in years past. However, the last couple of years had instilled a sense of morality (though some might call it a strange one) within him. Perhaps it would be best for him to throw away that moral fiber--it could make things easier in the future, and Terry had to push himself to feel guilty at times--but a bit of doubt lingered in the young man's mind. Would he lose his soul in exchange for survival?


Terry sighed and shook his head wordlessly as he thought to himself. Not even a full day out of the vault and existential questions were already buzzing around his mind. He really didn't need this sort of stress this early in the game. For now, he had to focus on the things he did know. Shane didn't seem to be a threat, and though Terry wasn't about to give the guy a gun or anything, he seemed more preoccupied on locating his father than he was stabbing the other members of the group in the back.


The former chaplain turned to Saige, momentarily glancing back to the briefcase, which was playing a strange recording that he couldn't help but hear, and yet made him feel as if he was invading someone else's privacy. "You're right," he agreed. "Shane, let's head out. Don't want to be here for too long." Terry started towards the hill in the west, checking over his shoulder to make sure the two were on his heels. They needed to stick together, especially as night began to fall. Terry began to wonder about light sources; their Pip-Boys had flashlights, but those could attract predators. A fire would probably keep mutated animals away, but would make them prime targets for bandits.

Goras

Hours after Goras entered the vault he was still there, he had not intended to stay this long but the robots had constantly come after him and many were not as damaged as the first. There had been many close calls as some of those sentry bots had missile launchers and no thick hide could block out an explosion. Luck however had been on his side as whenever he was getting near the edge seemingly about to bleed out there had been stimpacks and when he hurt badly there was medx to be found there had even been a few bottles of buffout here and there. This in truth was rather odd as Goras was not this lucky but he had encountered no survivors and there was no way a human could hide from him in a vault.


Still he had at last finished off the last robot, a heavily modified sentry bot, it seemed to have been modified before the vault closed not after by the robots, that had more than the normal allotment of arms and armaments not that there was a difference for the robots. The robot had been powered by fusion cores, the same thing that had and would one day again power, power armor but was of little use to Goras. Still despite this victory Goras didn't think he would get out of the vault , he was bleeding bad he might be strong but that robot had been powerful and despite it using small bullets it had fired so many that Goras had lost count of how many times his skin had been punctured. A human could use a stimpack and get back on their feet from this but he couldn't hold anything so even the life saving medicine had to be left behind. So this would be his end it was almost funny he dreamed of being a knight yet he would die having not become the hero he should have been he would have died fighting for no one.


Goras stood shakily like his legs could give out at any moment, yes darkness was close. Then he felt a sting in his side, well his good side as one side was torn up and turning he saw something he didn't expect. A human child, well teen but it was the size of a child, and it its hands something stabbing him. Goras thought for a second he would kill one last thing before he went then he felt it, the pain was vanishing the bleeding slowing and he realized what he had been stabbed with he wasn't going to die it seemed as clutched in dirty hands he had seen the tell tale gauge of a stimpack being injected into his side, still seconds later he fell over out cold.

illuta had followed the monster that had come into the vault and realized it was good when it started to attack the robots that had always tried to kill her. Still she didn't apporch the creature but she had made sure h would find the things he needed like the things that the adults had always pushed into themselves when hurt and the other stuff they took to not feel pain really there was other things like that in the med bay but Illuta had no clue what any of it did her ability to read was near nonexistent so complicated words on medicine bottles were imposable for her. Still she knew some of them were good and when the thing used them she knew it was smart it had to be. Still it had lots of trouble with the robots so she gave it lots of help but always hid in the shadows she still was unsure she had been alone with the robots so long she was of course skittish about anything new. Still after hours of fighting the thing had made its way to the big robot, she had only ever called it that, and killed it meaning she was now safe from the robots.

it was after he had killed the big robot that the thing seemed like it was going to die it never took anything extra along so it didn’t have any of the fixing up stuff to save it. Illuta had been unsure but in the end she took one of the stimpack and had used it on the thing that had killed all the robots and saved it just before it passed out.​

"-Alright kiddo, next to lights and protection, water, food, and of course, be careful with the rads, seen some crazy mixes with the rads- -Next to food and nutritio- Something more important than a gun is believe it or not, friends Shane, Friends will be your Ace in the hole, trust and luck, and with that lucky card I gave you, I have faith you will be smarter than the average fox, also, remember what I've taught you about defending yourself kid, I know it must've been ages since you've held or used a gun but you just gotta remember the big LLS alright? Locked, Loaded, and Safety. Alright, this should end tape 1 for now, find a place to fortify, resources, and defend yourself, love you and your mother kiddo, good luck out there-"


Shane let out a sigh as he ended the tape, thinking he'll place it back in his case later as he walked behind Terry and Saige. He kept an eye on his Pipboy's Geiger counter, a little afraid of rads and the possible mutations. Shane nodded as he opened his map, "There's a small cave nearby and the hill scouting point isn't that far from it, we could rest in the cave for the night." Shane pointed at the area of thought where the cave's location would, and should be.

Alexander made his way to vault seventy six, he was wearing his desert ranger armor and armed with a laser pistol and nothing else, he carried a large sack to sell vault tec souvenirs in and slowly approached them. "Hey!" he called out the vault dwellers, or possible dwellers he could see, "Hey," it was one of the first times in months he was meeting "civilized" people in months. "Welcome to the wasteland!"

"We still have time before sundown. I think we should do our best to find an actual building or something to stay in."


Saige wasn't entirely against the idea of staying in a cave, but she would've much rather stayed in a building. She started walking in the direction of the hill. If the cave was nearby, then they could scout from the hill and if there wasn't much nearby, then they could go back to the cave. She looked down at her Pip-Boy, checking the time. 14:47. She stopped and looked up toward the sky, the sun was still pretty high up. She wasn't sure when the sun would set but she estimated they had a good 5 or 6 hours of daylight left. She turned to the boys, pushing a loose lock of hair behind her ear, "Let's get going."

"I dunno," Terry said, peering around as they trudged up the hill. "Caves could have the, uh, 'bears'. Or whatever they're called. They lived in caves, right? Anyway, something could be inside it. Then again, I suppose the same could apply for a building." He didn't like not having all of the information required to traverse this alien and unknown land. He was fairly sure that there were other survivors, but he doubted that all of them were friendly. With no experience in surviving the wasteland, he would have to keep his wits about him.


After a steep climb, Terry neared the top of the hill. The young man wiped his brow and crouched down in the dirt, scanning the environment for signs of danger. "Keep your heads down," he called to the others. "Wouldn't want to get sniped so early in the game." His eyesight wasn't the greatest, so Terry wasn't too sure whether danger was present in the immediate area. "Anyone have any binoculars, or maybe a scope?" he asked.

Saige followed behind, wiping sweat from the back of her neck as they walked. It wasn't incredibly hot, but it was definitely different from the climate controlled temperature of the Vault. As they reached the crest of the hill Saige squinted at the surrounding area. There was something not far off. It looked like maybe a small town or civilization of some sort. Her attention was called back to Terry as he asked for a scope. Luckily for them, Saige had swiped one from the supply room a couple of weeks back when she had begun preparing for the opening. She shrugged one strap of her bag off her shoulder and flipped it open. She pulled a small scope out of the bag and peered through the lense.


"There's something out there, not far. Looks like a small town of some sort. A couple of hours walk at the most, I should think."


She replaced the scope and pulled her bag back on. Here goes nothing, she thought to herself. "Let's check it out."
