Dice TRIBUNAL - OOC

In seriousness, is it likely that the priests have one or two minor spirits to help them out? I was thinking that a truth spirit would be pretty useful for a detective/public servant.

Absolutely. Seems fair to me Meti has a charm with a simple Truth spirit bound to it - not a very clever one, so you need to ask it the right questions. More powerful spirits tend to be resistant to service.

But if any of you would like a spirit ally let me know what you're looking for.

They do have a loose association with a lot of sea creatures, just not a lot of, uh, useful ones.
Sharks occupy a weird space because they're of the sea, but predatory and dangerous, and the Gold Shark Heresy has made them theologically suspect.

Dolphins maybe? I think some cultures actually welcome them.

Only tangentially related, but one of my favorite depictions of dolphins in fiction is in Guy Gavriel Kay's The Sarantine Mosaic, where dolphins are said to carry away the souls of the dead... but their presence in art has recently become blasphemous due to its association with the fiction-equivalent paganism.

Anyway, yeah, I really like all the symbolism in the Tribunal with the animals and spirits (and animal spirits). The world-building's super rich, can't wait to dig in. I think I have enough of a grasp to write a post, though I'll probably do it tomorrow morning since it's getting a little late.

Oh, yes, dolphins. I completely forgot because they're so often absolute bastards but maybe in a pre-sonar world they're more pleasant.

I haven't read that book and I have a bit of a backlog, but I'll keep it in mind!

Take your time; we still need to confirm our Beloved's status and I don't expect anyone to post super often.

Also, I think you'd enjoy looking over this pitch, dae mec, even if it's not going anywhere for a while.

dae mec dae mec Agreed, I can't wait either

Grey Grey I think I'm gonna change Prim's name to Anahita. Also, it just occurred to me. In the character prompt it mentions that the Temple is all she's ever known. Does that imply that maybe she was an orphan?

I completely get how that is, lol. I'm a huge sci-fi/fantasy buff (especially the fun modern experimental stuff!) but my pile is ever-growing... and heaven forbid I try to actually cross books off, because I immediately add more. But yeah, GGK's works are great low-fantasy reads. Def recommend them.

Oh, you're right, I really do love the pitch! I'll keep an eye on it: I'm currently at my RP limit, but that's definitely a world and concept I want to dig my fingers in.

Better not ask me for book recs - I think I could name three off the top of my head you'd love, and I know how it is trying to cut the list back.

I think this is a group I could see working well in that game, but that's for another time. Fun fact, it's the same world as Tribunal - just several thousand miles north.

Well, now that you said that, I have to ask you for those recs. How dare you pique my curiosity like that!? Cough them up!

Also, I went back to the CDA document and saw the lore write-up about Krom from the other side. That's some great stuff.

Quite alright! It's mainly been OOC stuff filling out some details.

We just covered some stuff like local customs, aesthetics, some of your civic power, and started laying groundwork for relationships.
Won't take you long to catch up since some of it is just fun out of game stuff.
An OOC this health is a very good sign.

Now, to get those books recs for dae mec.

Thanks for the summary! Is there something in particular I should be doing at the moment?

Nothing specific - browse the thread at your own pace, ask any questions you might have, see if any interesting relationships with other characters jump out at you.
Main thread is up whenever folks are ready to post; Random Word has done a great job setting the tone so do check that out.

There are links at the top of any thread to the other two threads, for ease of reference.

I can't decide if working in customer support has made me better at GMing, or if GMing has made me better at support...

dae mec dae mec

Those recs I fell asleep before posting:
Hammers On Bone by Cassandra Khaw
Beneath The Rising by Premee Mohamed
Winter Tide by Ruthanna Emrys

Can you tell me what would be considered a death outside of its time?

Edit: I mean obviously murder would be one, but how/who determines when "time" is. I feel like this can be either super abstract or super clear cut so im not sure how to think about it.

Pretty abstract, but murder and dying young are clearly abhorrent to her most of the time.
The goddess will make her will known.

Grey Grey Thank you for the recs! Those look great: I love modern interpretations of Lovecraftian horror. Those kinda remind me of Stross' Laundry Files, the Dream Quest of Vellitt Boe, and the Ballad of Black Tom, which I all really enjoyed. Definitely putting those on the list :D (Also, you can just call me Dae, I don't mind.)

So, about the truth spirit, could I have it bound to a spear? Or would that be bound to a trinket, and something else be bound to the spear? (Or would it just be a spear?) I was thinking it could be interesting to have the truth spirit literally in a weapon, especially since others would expect a spirit w/combat applicability to be there.

That would be fine, although bear in mind the public may jump to conclusions to see a Guardian carrying a weapon considered appropriate for war or monster fighting.

For fun, I'd be curious if anyone finds themselves associating music with their characters so far. I wrote them while listening to particular songs and I'd be curious what your takes are in the context of your own tastes.

dae mec dae mec For reference, the actual crime scene is inside the temple itself. It sits on a squat pyramid and is accessible by shallow stairs - I'd say it's actually two metres off the ground.
My fault for an insufficient description!

Hmm, I hadn't given music any thought. The first thing Ceda makes me think of is club music. Like maybe:
