New York City, 2017

"Have you ever wondered what is in store for the future? Have you ever felt as if you belong there? Have you ever tried to make a time machine? If any of these apply to you, we can make your dream come true. Vex Design has created TMCs, or Time Manipulation Capsules. These capsules put the subject into a stasis that keeps the human body up to par, but puts the subject into a deep sleep. Set the time for a number of years, and enter the capsule. After you lie down, get comfortable before pressing the activate button. Once that button is pressed, there will be a ten second pause, and then, the next thing you know, your in the future. TMCs can be found at Vex Design's Community Center in New York City. Are you prepared to see the future of your generation?" - Vex Design Commercial for TMCs

New York City, 2079

It's the year 2079 when the TMCs break down, releasing there victims. Turns out that the TMCs had left out a variable in the equation, which made it so no one could exit the capsule until they broke down. The capsules were created in 2017. Essentially, years passed before the subjects were released. As I'm sure you can imagine, there were many successes in Earth's future, but also many failures. Human civilization ended in 2070, due to research to enhance the human body called Project Future. A virus spread across New York City, mutating commoners into monstrous creatures, called Dreads. There are specific categories, some have increased agility, increased strength, etc. But all Dread have decreased sanity. All that is left in their heads is a lust for blood. But not all were infected. They were easily named the Survivors. The outside governments decided the best action was to block off the area of New York State before the virus spread. The wall was built within only a few days, as it was a world threatening issue. No one would get in, but more importantly, no one would come out. Unknown to the outsiders, the virus had already manifested in some victims, it was just not matured. After the walls were sealed, the virus spread rapidly, as all defenses were down, because of the thought that the virus was trapped. The virus mutated among the mass populations of the outsiders, and eventually...the outsiders were wiped out by the virus. The government had intended to separate the virus and save the populations...but had created a unique single concentration of Survivors. (There are still Dread within, not just humans.) This was unknown to New York, and the officials last order was to deactivate all energy weapons. As a result, only weapons from around 2017 are working. New York has become an overgrown and hostile environment, but the Survivors are still kicking after the 8 years since the infection started. When the energy supply for TMCs was cut off...they opened, baring 2017 occupants.

Leo couldn't breathe. He couldn't open his eyes. All he knew was that something was wrong. He started to panic, and tried to move his legs. No luck. His arms were next, and they didn't work either. He tried to move whatsoever, and nothing worked. The lack of oxygen was starting to make his body panic, and he struggled, an intense heat being developed between him and the cushioned capsule. He tried to think of where he was, and why, and couldn't remember. His foot suddenly gave way fro the cushion, and bumped something hard. He kicked hard, but the surface didn't give way. Slowly, the rest of his body started to move, and Leo was putting all his effort into breaking out of his containment. His eyes burst open, and light filled them. He immediately closed them again, the brightness hurting his head. He opened them again though, and looked through the surface. Glass. I can break that, right? he thought. He started to kick at the base of the glass as hard as possible, but his lack of oxygen started to create drowsiness, and his eyes drooped close. His foot gave one last kick in what he thought was his last moment, and a small crack ripped through the air. His eyes bolted open once again, and his whole body lurched, and the glass fell out along with him. He lay flat against the ground, gasping for air, glass under him, leaving him bleeding. The adrenaline rushing through his body prevented him from feeling such, and he tried to get on his knees, but quickly passed out, air of a new time going in and out of his lungs.

(Sorry for the crappy post, It was difficult to write it though. I couldn't seem to get the intense feel across, and hope this would work.)

Lukas was suddenly awake. He didn't know how long he'd been asleep, hell he hardly remembered where he was even sleeping. He tried to move but found he couldn't. Couldn't move at all and couldn't really breathe. He opened his dry mouth and proceeded to try screaming his head off. He could hardly hear himself from the padding but he tried to take another breath before screaming again. He just knew someone had to be near him- he needed their help desperately as he regained feeling in his arms but not quite in his legs. A million questions should've been running rampant in his head but all he could think about was getting out and taking in a deep breath of fresh air, or even any air for that matter. He still continued trying to scream but he could feel his voice dying down and his body was beginning to feel as heavy as lead.

Screams ripped through Leo's sleeping mind, and his eyes whipped open. His eyes darted around the dark room, vines leaking from every crack. A single source of light drifted in as sunlight from a broken window, and Leo groaned slightly as he started to move. His bones ached, and he wanted to lay there, but the muffled screams were giving him goosebumps. He suddenly remembered where he was, and why he was there. The TMCs....Dear God, what happened? He thought as he looked about the room, which seemed devoid of power. A final scream ripped through the air, and Leo was jerked back to reality, out of his thoughts. He jerked his arms out from under him, and pushed against the ground, propelling his body upward. He stumbled up into a standing position, a worried look on his face. He stumbled toward the TMC the sound was coming from, his heart racing. It's not just me, oh-oh God, please... he reached the capsule, the thick glass revealing a young male with a dying look in his eyes. That was me a moment, er, however long ago. Leo slammed his fists on the glass, with suprising strength. The adrenaline once again coursing through his veins. Slowly, but surely, the glass was breaking. But the boy was losing conciousness, and Leo needed to do something. He glanced about the room, and quickly found a lever on the ground, ripped from a gear. He slammed it down on the capsule. The glass gave a satisfying crack and gave way.

Lukas took a deep breath in as the sound of shattering glass echoed in his head. The air didn't seem right, but it was air. He crawled out of the TMC and fell onto the floor coughing and gasping for a good amount of fresh oxygen. His legs weren't gaining any feeling just quite yet and that was the cause of him falling. The fifteen year old pushed himself off the ground and his head turned to face some older boy in a trenchcoat. "Th-thanks..." He pushed himself off the ground, ignoring the cuts he was getting from the shards of glass. He forced himself to stand and felt very off balance, slowly realizing he was in the future now. Now, the millions of question began to run rampantly through his mind and then he realized he was hearing... everything. Hell he even heard the heartbeat of the older boy. That bit confused Lukas quite a bit.

@CallMeNeon

Leo promptly fell to the ground, laying on his back. "No problem." he said, out of breath. His heart beat rapidly. Had he just saved the boy's life? Or would the TMC life support have kicked in? I doubt it. Mine didn't, and the power seems to be off. It doesn't matter anyway, a life is a life, and I cant have blood on my hands in this...well, whatever time the world is in. Leo raised his head till his chin was touching his chest and looked at the boy. To be honest, Leo was desperate to get to known the boy, as he would be one of the few from his time. Speaking of more from his time, Leo looked about the room. The TMC's smooth design had withstood the test of time, and kept its smooth design. Leo noticed only one other had been broken, and followed a trail of glass and blood to the window. So were not the first. Leo raised his back from the ground and sat with his hands in his lap. His head hung low, the adrenaline losing its effect, and drowsiness settling in. Smashing out of his TMC and breaking the other boy's had been his first actions since he had been put into the capsule, and the effects of his movements on his recovering body had not been positive. The pain from the glass shards in his arms started to be felt, and Leo cringed slightly. One particular glass shard would definitely leave a scar, and was located on his lower forearm. Leo raised his head enough to see the boy, and asked "Name?"

The question, the sounds surrounding the two, everything seemed ridiculously loud to the boy's ears. He winced and covered his ears with his hands to muffle the noises just a little. When he spoke, his voice was much quieter than usual and it was evident that he almost forgot how to talk. "Lukas." His voice was small and almost inaudible but in his hearing, it sounded like it was loud, hence the quietness of his tone. He didn't understand what was going on with his hearing but he was sure it was some weird side-affect of going into the TMC, completely unaware of what was going on in the world outside of the room he was in.

Leo raised an eyebrow. "You ok over their kid? Don't pass out on me now. We've got a world to explore...I think," he said as he was standing. Well, I would get put with an anti-social kid. Covering his ears and all. Leo offered a hand to the kid, a smile drawing out on his face. He wouldn't have to face this alone. Whatever was out there. It couldn't be good though. Vex Design had promised the TMCs would be taken care of, and he believed them. But...the power was out, the life supply for his capsule and Lukas' was cut off and he wasn't sure about the others, and there was blood on the floor...not good signs. He prepared for the worst.

His soft voice broke out again as he took the hand offered to him and stood up slowly. "Hey... is everything super loud for you too? I-I can hear... way more than I should be able to..." Lukas uncovered his ears tenderly, the noises getting a little louder again. He winced and covered his ears up again. He just wanted his old hearing back since this was getting to be seriously annoying. Lukas looked up at the older boy curiously. He didn't look like any of his senses were overreacting to the new environment.

@CallMeNeon

"Ahh, no. No I do not. To be honest, I have no idea why your hearing is different...maybe they left out a variable in the TMC equations. Tell you what, keep your hands over our ears, and I'll whisper quietly. Alright?" At that moment, a screech ripped through the air, loud enough for Leo to cover his ears. Leo looked wide-eyed toward where the sound originated, ears ringing and eyes wide. If possible, they would have widened. What he saw in front of him was a humanoid embodiment of grotesque. Sitting just outside the window that was at ground-level was a clawed human, missing chunks of flesh and dirt covering the body of the creature. It's long black hair and crazed eyes pushed Leo back a step. Leo's eyes squinted, and he stepped in front of Lukas. He spread his arms in front also, ready to take a blow if necessary. He immediately started to look for exits, but only the window was a possibility. He would have to draw the disfigured human away from the window, and then hope Lukas and himself could avoid it long enough to loop around and climb out.

Lukas felt like lava was enveloping his ears when the creature screeched, which he followed with a screech of his own and fell to his knees whilst covering his ears. He groaned as his face was scrunched in pain. He opened his eyes and looked at the source of the sound to see the most terrifying sight he'd have the displeasure of coming across. Lukas's eyes widened and he just stared. What the hell is that even?!?!! He tried to calm himself down and noticed that the older boy was standing in front of him protectively. His bright blue eyes darted around, noticing the only real way out was a window that the thing was practically right next to. Lukas slowly stood up while keeping his eyes on the creature. He could hardly hear anything because his ears were filled with an annoying ringing but it was better that then hurting from every sound around him.

@CallMeNeon

The creature dropped from the window, and started to move forward at a surprising speed. Leo panicked, and pushed Lukas out of the way, only to get tackled by the creature. Long claws pierced his chest, and his breathing became stuttered. The creature had him on the ground, and a ripped it's claws from his chest, and a new wave of blood flowed. Leo's mouth opened, and whispered "Run," to Lukas. His hand landed on a piece of glass as it fell, and he grabbed the glass, but he felt no pain. This creature obviously had enough speed to chase Lukas down no matter what Leo did to distract it. They needed to kill it. The glass in his hand suddenly felt brimming with potential, and he drove his hand from his side up into the creature. The creature yelped, and backed away for a moment. This gave Leo the opportunity he had wanted. He grabbed a piece of glass for each hand, and slid into a position to fight. He had readied himself, and had all the will to fight, but his body had nothing left. The blood leaking was simply too much, and he crumpled to his knees. If this is the world of the future...do I really want to live in it? He thought as conciousness slowly started to evade him. A small flicker of his eyes revealed Lukas, doing something on his own, and then, Leo crumpled fully to the ground, blood pumping. I can't leave this kid here alone...No, no I cant...please God please....Leo slid a small piece of glass across the floor toward Lukas, and then consciousness left him.

Lukas's eyes widened even more. He had start to run off, but when he saw his new friend lose consciousness he couldn't just leave him to be torn apart even more by the monster. He grabbed the piece of glass and winced a little since he could still feel it cut his skin. The creature was more focused on whatever ungodly thing it was about to do to Leo, so Lukas crept behind and tried to jab and slice at the nape of its neck. He was sure it didn't work but honestly he was just using a tactic from an anime he watched back at home. The creature howled in either anger or pain, maybe even both, and Lukas ran to grab more shards of glass despite the intense noise now stuck in his head.

@CallMeNeon

Lukas watched as the creature's arms flew up almost in frustration or something of the like before falling on top of Leo. He ran over and somehow managed to heave the dead thing off of the unconscious and tried to drag his friend to a corner of the room. He knew they had to get out of there but he knew he couldn't lift someone and get them outside along with himself. Corners also made Lukas feel safer for some reason. It was likely that the calm came from the sense of others' inability to sneak up behind him and catch him off guard, but he didn't care. He dragged Leo to the corner farthest from the dead creature and began looking him over to see what wounds he'd endured from the creature. There was blood and deep cuts and claw-marks all over the body. Lukas tore off the sleeves of his shirt and and began using them like bandages in hopes of slowing down the bleeding from the largest and most critical looking wounds. The makeshift bandages were soaked through quickly but he hoped they would somehow still help if he kept them there. He covered his ears as he heard a few screeches in the distance though they seemed to be more quiet and thus more distant than his hypersensitive hearing would have him believe. He sat down with his back against the wall, pulling his knees to his chest. He was a little too scared to explore and try to find out what the hell happened to the future, especially with his only real friend and protection unconscious. He finally started to remember who he had been and why he'd gone into the TMC. Lukas remembered it all now that he had time to sit down and just think as he waited for Leo to wake up magically.

@CallMeNeon

Leo wasn't sure what time it was, but it was dark out. At first, when he had awoken, he couldn't remember. Then, the memories came back, along with the wounds. "Never a boring moment around here eh?" he muttered, and tried to move. Small bandages peeled off his skin, but the bleeding had stopped. Leo slowly looked down to his lap, and found Lukas' sleeping form's head upon it. A small thought popped into his head. Huh. This is what having a sibling is like. Not to bad. They save your life, and are adorable at times. A small smile graced his face. He slowly moved Lukas' head to the side, resting his head upon the cold cement softly. "Don't move, I'll be right back," he whispered as he stood. "I'm going exploring!"

Lukas was out cold, almost as cold as the ground. But he was dreaming- no, he was having nightmares- about how his life used to be. Awful flashbacks filled his mind and he wasn't able to wake himself up. In the real world, the sleeping fifteen year old was spasing on the ground in his sleep as if a form of sleepwalking. Even though they were just flashbacks, just nightmares, he felt every bit of pain and of embarrassment as he would in the real world. Then suddenly he found himself singing his favorite song in the dream, bits and pieces leaking out into reality in almost hushed whispers that left his mouth.

@CallMeNeon

Leo walked to the window, while taking caution to not stretch his ribs to much, as the healing of his wounds might become undone. He looked out the window as he put his hands up to it, ready to boost himself up. Huh. The same moon, I guess. he thought. The bright full moon was shining down upon the ground in front of the ground level window, and revealed a black asphalt road. the vine's leaking from the road through over the broken glass provided a nice cushion for Leo as he propped himself up and climbed out. Standing up straight, Leo had his first full view of the world. The first word that came to mind was Abandoned. Broken brick buildings numbered immensely, and torn up cement, asphalt, and wood were common accompaniments. The most stunning factor was the lighting. There was none of it. Leo had been used to lights everywhere, growing up when he did and where he did. The lights meant activity. This new world was devoid of such light.

Lukas began waking up. He could already hear Leo's breathing but it was slightly more distant, as if he had moved a little farther away from Lukas as he had been sleeping. The boy got up and rubbed his eyes, glancing around to try and find his friend. He would've been pretty worried at not being able to see him if it weren't for the fact that he heard Leo's breathing. He just didn't know where it was coming from. "Leo... where'd you go?" Lukas whispered as he tried to see anything in the darkness that had swept over the room he was in. He dare not wander around since he was sure he'd just trip and fall and he didn't want to accidentally fall on top of the corpse he'd made of the monster from before.

Alexis had stuffed her backpack with enough food for a few days for her and Mona, they were going to visit the Vex community center to search it, it might take a while for them to scan the entire area so they packed for the trip. She had put on her usual outfit for a exploration, a green vest that held a walkie talkie and green cargo pants. She had a leather sheath belt that kept her dagger and sword on her hip. Her grappling hook stayed in her hand at all times. Mona had a cargo vest on that held the packaged food. They packed light as per usual, food in satchel and Mona's vest and weapons, a Swiss army knife and walkie talkie was the only other thing that would be found in Mona's vest. If they found anything worth taking they would stuff it in Alexis's bag. Alexis and Mona had set off the day before and had finally made it to Vex. They wandered through the old place separated from each other, using the walkie talkie to contact each other. Alexis felt a bit odd when she was inside the building, the scene was normal for her, but the energy inside felt even more miserable than others, and it made her skin crawl

Lukas froze up as his sensitive hearing picked something else up. Movement in a room next to the room he was in. Lukas looked around before he realized that his vision was becoming accustomed to the darkness. He could vaguely see the TMCs, the corpse, the window, and even the door. He carefully and almost silently made his way to the door. He could hear Leo just outside of the window, so whatever or whoever was moving around in the room next door wasn't Leo. Lukas cautiously opened the door and peeked out into a hallway and began moving towards the sounds of movement other than his own. He knew he shouldn't leave Leo but he was dying of curiosity, so he went over to the door to the room the movement was coming from. He paused. It could be another monster in that room... it could be anything. He thought to himself.

@FluffyMarshmallow

Alexis moved along through the hallway cautiously, checking every open door that she could see and saw a flicker of movement by a door in the hall and she looked over to see a boy peering out. She started walking towards the door slowly and unsurely, she had been in some situations where she found a monster, but never a human. She saw a corpse through the door and recognized the monster instantly, and her movement ceased for a split second before realizing that she could have possibly found another survivor, though she knew better than to trust someone by a silly impulse

@ZekeDude

Lukas heard the movement again, significantly closer and his eyes latched onto the figure of someone- it didn't look like one of those monsters. He glanced around nervously before opening his mouth with his small voice as to not hurt his now super sensitive ears. "Hello..?.." He really hoped that this was a) a nice person and b) not a monster that looked extremely human. The fifteen year old opened the door just a bit more so he could get a better view of this person. He considered calling out for Leo again, but decided that he wouldn't need Leo to fend for himself just this once. Still, he carefully grabbed a chunk of glass that lay on the floor just in case he really needed it.

@FluffyMarshmallow

Alexis opened the door slowly with her hand on her swords handle in case he was dangerous, to see a boy clutching a shard of glass carefully, the image was quite frightening to be honest, and the corpse in the background didn't help. She raised her eyebrows, if you got rid of the glass he looked quite innocent, and he didn't seem like he was dangerous, but then again looks could be deceiving, best not trust too soon. Yet as soon as she saw his eyes she let go of the handle, his eyes were more uncertain than angry and violent
