Three's a Crowd

Evangel shivered as his hands ran up and down back. She loved his touch. He was so gentle, not rough like Jace had been. She really enjoyed it. It made her feel loved and appreciated, and that was something she definitely needed at the moment. The shirt she wore only covered her butt barely, so her legs were getting a bit cold despite being tangled with Atticus's.

"Hmm... May I kiss you or...?" She smiled innocently up at him, her hand reaching up to get tangled in his hair. She played with a piece of it. She did want to lie around, but kissing wasn't going to hurt anybody. Besides, it would really help her forget about everything to be lost in his kisses.

Atticus smirked a little bit at her suggestion. "Is that even a question?" He responded before leaning down and pressing his lips to her's. There was something almost intoxicating about that innocent look she always had. She seemed innocent, sure, but the way that she new her way around the bed said otherwise. Not that it was a bad thing. He loved it.

His hand continued to move up and down her back as they kissed but eventually found it's way to her butt. He figured she wouldn't mind for the moment, right?

Evangel grinned into the kiss. She turned her head a little to be at a better angle. Her hand continued to run through his now messy hair, but she thought the whole rough, unruly look really worked for him.

She froze slightly as his hand moved down further, but she didn't mind. And to show him that, she deepened the kiss, pulling him closer to her. God, she needed this.
"Fuck." She whispered softly , not really meaning anything by it other than she was loving kissing him.

Atticus grinned at her whispering and how she pulled him closer to her. Even if all they did was kiss this time, he was completely happy with that. There was something about it all. You could just get lost in it. It was honestly like it was just the two of them. She was the only thing that distracted him from the rest of his life. His parents, his anxiety, the drug use. She made it all go away.

His hand moved back up to her back and he pulled her closer to him as he kissed her even more passionately than he had before.

Evangel continued to kiss him for a few moments before pulling back, biting her lip gently. A genuinely happy smile spread across her lips. Just being around Atticus made her feel like she the luckiest girl in the world. It's as if this entire time, she loved him, except just now was when they began to actually show. She wasn't sure if that was true and she wasn't aware of it, or she had just fallen in love with the guy in the last 24 hours. Either way, it made her extremely happy.

Her phone buzzed and she reached over him to grab it. It was Ashley: "Hey, heard about u and Jace. U ok? Call me"

Eva's heart skipped a beat. Of course she had heard already. Everyone probably had. With a sigh, she lied back down beside Atticus, bringing her phone with her this time.

Atticus grinned at Eva when she pulled away but his smile faded when her phone went off and she was quick to grab it. Of course, his first thought was that it was Jace, ready to present a thousand roses to her with a new pony and an apology in the form of a song.

He bit the inside of his cheek anxiously when she laid back down. "What?" Atticus asked, curious to know what had been said to make her sigh. Was it an exhausted sigh or a confused one or what? He was trying to stay positive about the whole thing. Maybe the sigh didn't mean anything. He was probably just overthinking it all because of everything that had happened in the last twelve hours. It had been a long day for the both of them.

"It's just Ashley. Everyone in the country knows I've broken up with the school's most prized possession." Eva replied, looking up at Atticus and rolling her eyes. She decided to text Ashley back: "Can't call you right now. Yeah, I'm good. Thanks." She wasn't feeling very talkative. Ashley was the kind of girl that wanted to know every detail and she wanted to know it now.

A few moments after she hit send, her phone buzzed again: "Okay, good. Hey, u coming to the varsity football game tomorrow night? Cuz u should "

Evangel frowned thoughtfully and looked up to Atticus,"
Ashley wants me to go to the football game tomorrow night, which is odd."

It was also off that Ashley didn't ask a million questions about how exactly the breakup went down and who said who and what each of them were wearing.

Atticus sighed softly, listening to her say that it was her best friend. Figures. Jace probably spread the word like wild fire.

"Why would she want you to go to the football game if you guys just broke up?.." He said her with furrowed brows. In his mind, it didn't make any sense. The star quarterback just lost his girlfriend.. Why would she show up and support him?

He rolled onto his back and ran a hand through his hair, feeling like it was nothing but trouble if Eva ended up going.

"Well.. Are you going to?" He asked her curiously. Atticus hadn't been to a football game since Eva and Jace had started dating and he didn't feel like doing it now either.

Evangel looked at Atticus as he rolled on his back. She considered it. It might be really awkward if she went, but she enjoyed the games. Besides, her phone kept blowing up with Ashley's text, pleading her to go.

"How about we stop by for a few minutes so Ashley doesn't rip my head off. We won't even stay long. Is that okay?" She really didn't want to see Jace, at all, but she'd been neglecting her best friend recently and felt bad. "Trust me, I'm not too enthusiastic about it, but I've barely spent any time with her in a long time. Maybe you can convince some of your friends to go so we'll have a group?"

There wouldn't be any fights anyways. All of Jace's friends would be out on the field playing, so they wouldn't have to worry about confrontation. And maybe if he ended up seeing them together, it would make him realize that there's no point in pursuing her anymore.

Atticus gave Eva a look in a response to her offer. "I'm not going. If you want to go with Ashley then you can," He told her,"You should probably go, actually. To see her."

He wasn't being sarcastic or anything either when he said it. It would probably be better if she went and everyone saw that she was fine. It'd maybe help with the rumors and stuff. He didn't care about them but he knew that it bothered her. And plus, Jace would be playing so nothing bad would happen. It wasn't like he was going to stop playing and run up into the stands and beg for her forgiveness. He'd be kicked off the team in a second.

"And plus, my friends don't go to football games either. That's not their typical Friday night, love," He told her with a bit of a laugh. He knew that they'd all be out a party so it wasn't even worth asking. They'd obviously all choose a party over watching guys run into each other with their shoulders.

Eva nodded in response, realizing it was kind of stupid to ask him to go anyways. He wasn't into that sorta thing. But then again, neither was she. "Alright, I'll go for her. I'll bring you back a foam finger." She teased as she responded to her friend saying that she would meet her there.

Then a thought hit her. If Atticus stayed home, she wanted him to stay safe. And that included not getting drunk or high and driving or something like that. It didn't bother her really, she was never quick to judge someone based on their life choices. She just wanted him to stay healthy and safe. Besides, he was an amazing perfect regardless.

"Since you're not going, please stay safe." A hint of worry in her eyes as she looked into his.

Atticus laughed and shook his head. "You're too kind. I've always wanted one," He responded with a smirk on his face.

He looked over at her when she told me to be safe. He knew what she meant and so for her sake, he grinned. "I'll be fine," He told her softly, leaning over to kiss her forehead. Truth be told, he was going to be going out too. If Eva was going to be gone, then you could bet your ass he wasn't going to be sitting around and worrying about her and what she was doing. He wasn't controlling or anything, he was just scared of losing her. So, to fix that problem, he'd go out and try and forget about it with his friends. He wouldn't drive or anything, but as usual, there'd probably be some drugs in the mix.

"Thank you, and if you need me just call." She told him, her hand moving to the back of Atticus's neck. She smiled up at him softly, still kind of worried about him. She leaned up and gently kissed his lips, then curled up against his side and lay her head on his chest.

"I just remembered that I have to take that Chem test I missed today... I'll do that at lunch, are you gonna be at school tomorrow?" She asked him.

"I'm kind of tired..." She whispered with a soft yawn. Her eyes closed partially and her arm wrapped around his middle.

Atticus nodded and grinned. "Of course," He told her sweetly, leaning down and kissing her back. He put his arms around her when she curled up to him and nodded slightly.

"Yeah, I will be," He told her as if it was such a terrible thing. He tried to keep his grades up and he was doing alright this year with a solid three C's and then rest D's.. At least he was passing, right? He wasn't going to college anyways so he didn't think it mattered which than made it an absolute job to show up to.

"Then sleep," He told her quietly, not minding if she did so. He'd probably just lay there and watch something on TV until he fell asleep too.

"Good, school is important." She teased him gently. Eva was always that girl who cared about grades and school and strived to attend college. She knew that Atticus wasn't like that, but she didn't mind at all.

Evangel smiled and closed her eyes. She positioned her head so that she could listen to Atticus's heartbeat as she slept. That sort of thing calmed her.

"Night, Atticus. I love yo-" her voice faded as she ended up drifting to sleep before finishing what she was going to say.

With Evangel gone for the night, Atticus decided to stick the plan that he'd made up in his mind and to go out with his usual buds. They'd picked him up and now they were on their way to someones apartment for a kickback sort of thing. He wasn't really sure who or where it was, but he was told it was going to be fun so that was all he cared about.

As he lounged in the backseat of the car, he pulled out his phone and shot Eva a text; Hey. Just wanted to check on you. Hope you're having fun. I love you.

He was sure that she was fine because otherwise, she would've already called, but he felt the need to ask anyways. He was glad that he at least had a distraction for the night.

~

Jace looked around at all of his teammates as they all huddle around. A quick glance towards the scoreboard let him know that he had just enough time to call one more play before half-time.

"Alright guys. Let's go with the Spear Zag, alright? One less touchdown to get us ahead," He called. The huddle broke and they walked to their positions. The game was somewhat close so if they could actually pull off getting a touchdown, it would help them pull ahead in the second half.

Evangel pulled up in her little VW bug and checked her phone. She smiled when she received a text from Atticus. She replied with: "I'm great. :) stay safe love! Love you too!"

She grabbed her purse and got out of her car, locking it behind her. She saw Ashley's black Chevy car and strolled toward the stands. She quickly spotted the red head that belonged to her sitting in the middle row with some other of their friends. Evangel hurried down to her, a smile lighting up her face.

"Hey Ev! We were just talking about you... Well, everyone is but ours is only good things" Ashley beamed and stood up to hug her best friend.

"Thanks guys. How are you?" Eva say beside her friend, waving to the others on the opposite side of her. She pulled the blanket that Ashley had wrapped around her legs around her own and leaned on her best friend's shoulder, exhausted from the extensive school day.

As soon as the ball was snapped to Jace, he chucked to to another player who in return just ran for the touchdown while the rest of them blocked the opposing team from trying to intercept. 30 yards.. 40 yards.. He was so close and.. And.. And he got dropped to the ground by the teams 300 pound nose guard.. Well. They tried.

The buzzer rang, indicating that the quarter was over and it was half time and both teams shuffled off to their decided sides of the field. He pulled off his helmet, then grabbed a nearby water bottle and started to chug it down. He hadn't gotten a break the whole game so far so he was dying for some relief.

~

Atticus grinned at Eva's response and tucked the phone back into his pocket. He crossed his arms and looked out the window, trying to figure out exactly where they were while his friend in the front seat talked about how this guy had a really great hookup when it came to cocaine. Any other day, that statement might excite him but he knew that for Eva's sake, he should probably avoid it for the night.

He thought that maybe his friends wouldn't care. They just seemed happy to have him tagging along and in a better mood than usual.

"I'm good actually, just haven't seen you in forever silly! Ooh, it's halftime! Do you want to go get something to drink?" Ashley rambled on. She talked a lot, but her energy made Eva feel happy. I guess she was just attracted to being friends with her opposites.

"Why not." She shrugged and followed the red haired girl up to the concession stand. Eva couldn't help but glance down at the sidelines. Jace was taking a long drink of water, seeming exhausted, but he wasn't looking into the stands. Good, she thought.

As they neared the concession, a group of girls came up behind them clad in cheerleading outfits. "Evangel Winters had the guts to show up to a football game only a day after doing the unbelievable?" Cierra, the head cheerleader sneered. "Yeah, that's like... Social suicide." Another chimed in.

Eva turned, rolling her eyes at the girls.
"C'mon, I just came to cheer on my school. Can you please leave me alone, Cierra? Thanks."

Jace looked up when the coach yelled his name and suggested, or more commanded, that he head to the locker rooms to get all the guys more water. He was captain after all. He had to keep his team hydrated. Who cared how he was feeling though, right? He wanted to roll his eyes but instead he just nodded and went on his way.

He titled his head slightly, seeing a group of cheerleaders huddling together by the concession stand which was stationed on the way to the boy's locker room.

Curious to know what they were all up to, he walked in their direction to get a closer look. Well, he had to walk that way anyways but instead of walking around them, he walked right to them.

~

Atticus watched as the car pulled up to some rickety apartment community. It was obvious that they weren't in the best side of town.. The car pulled through a gate and drove them to an empty parking space.

"What's this kid's name again?" Atticus asked as he got out of the car with all of his friends.

"Spencer," His friend, Nick, answered,"He's really chill." The whole five of them walked up to the apartment door and they all let themselves in. There was already quite a decent amount of people there who were already hyped on something and in all honesty, he'd be terrified to talk to about half them. He might have been tough but he wasn't invincible. He knew his limits.

His friends and him headed to the kitchen where they started to help themselves to some drinks.

Ashley turned and stood beside her friend, her hands on her hips. "What do you guys want? It's not like she's the first girl to break up with a guy. Drop it?" She suggested, her tone firm.

Cierra grinned mischievously. "What do you want? Who
are you anyways?" She snapped. Evangel stepped up, sighing loudly. "Listen, this isn't anything we need to discuss. It just wasn't working ou-" she was cut short by the sight of Jace walking up to them. Great.

Eva covered her face in her hands and groaned, annoyed. These past few days definitely were not going well for her.

Cierra turned, following Eva's gaze. A grin lit up her makeup covered face as he approached. "Speak of the devil, look who it is,
Evangel!" she exclaimed, putting a little extra pronunciation on her name.

Jace raised his eyebrows when he heard Eva's name being thrown about by one of the cheerleaders. Or rather, the cheerleader. She was a bitch, to put it nicely. He never liked any of the cheerleaders really. They all had just as bad egos as he did, except they were all spiteful and cruel.

"Devil?" He repeated,"I prefer the term.. Fallen Angel." A smirk came over his lips as she stepped through the girls and they all giggled.

His eyes fell on Eva who was obviously not very happy to see him. But God, she looked beautiful.. She always was beautiful. Why did have to be so stupid and let her go?

"Cierra," He said, turning to look at her with a charming smile on his lips,"You're still going to that party tonight, right?" An arm looped around the girl and rested dangerously low on her back when he asked. Truth be told, he had no idea if there was a party going on or not but it was a Friday, so he could only assume. Plus, Cierra would bark at any offer of getting with him. She always had.

As Jace stepped up, Eva stared at him hard, not backing down from this. She noticed that he looked at her a little too long for her liking. Ashley reached a hand on her friend's shoulder, reassuring her.

Eva watched in disgust as Cierra basically threw herself at him. "Oh definitely! The one at Micheal's? I heard he got a hold of some kegs!" She said with a wink, twirling a piece of her blonde hair around her finger and beaming stupidly up at the quarterback as his hand rested far down her back.

Evangel rolled her eyes and turned to move, but a few of the other football players came up behind them, curious as to what was going on and in turn, accidentally blocking them in.
"This is just great!" She said a bit too loudly. As they recognized the auburn haired girl, frowns settled on their faces. They were obviously intrigued as to why she was here... Around her ex.

Jace smiled when Cierra agreed to whatever party was happened. "Great. I'm sure it'll be a blast. Maybe I can help you with a few keg stands? And whatever else you need help with..." He responded with a smirk. God, so lame. He hated flirting with people. When he'd first met Eva, he'd been awkward as hell. It was even worse with people he didn't know or care for. He was pretty sure anything he said would make the girl swoon though.

His eyes shifted over to Eva when she spoke up and saw that there were a few more of his football buddies standing behind them all.

"What's the matter, Evangel? Sad your boyf- Oops, ex-boyfriend is moving on so fast after dumping you?" One of the other cheerleaders boomed which earned a fair amount of laughter from the rest of the group.

Jace hadn't started that rumor- the one about him dumping her- but it was almost bound to happen he guessed, with his status and all..

Evangel stared hard at Jace as he looked at her, her jaw set. How could he do this to her? She knew she kind of broke it off unexpectedly, but she figured this sort of thing was above him. She could care less about Cierra, but encouraging all of this?

"Jace, I thought you were better than this." She said, continuing to stare at him, her face expressionless. "I should've known it wasn't past you to spread a bunch of lies." Eva turned to leave, grabbing Ashley's arm as she did so.

An even larger crowd began to form, but all of the coaches seemed to busy to care. A few of Ashley and Evangel's friends stood by, worried expressions on their faces. They were helpless against the "popular crowd".

"Lies? Sweetie, he never wanted you. He was just using you!" Cierra spoke up as she laughed loudly. No one was letting either of the girls through and it was beginning to frustrate Eva. She closed her eyes a moment to keep from exploding on everyone. She didn't need any more rumors.

"And to hear that you went straight to a low-life druggie for comfort! How pathetic. You could've been like one of us, but I guess you weren't good enough." Another cheerleader piped up, crossing her arms.

"Fuck." Eva whispered to herself. She had never felt so angry in her entire life and it was beginning to scare her.
