Fandom The Wings of Freedom [Attack on Titan]

Priya

kyber child
This military division is in charge of the exploration and the eventual reclamation of human territory from Titan-infested lands. Prior to the breach of Wall Maria, they explored the land outside of the Wall, though never getting that far due to the heavy casualties suffered by Titans.

Presently, they have been laying down supplies from the Wall Rose Trost District to Wall Maria Shiganshina District in preparation to seal the breach and reclaim Wall Maria.

A more recent unofficial duty has been Titan observation and research. Given the safer nature of exploring within Wall territory (since Titans can only enter the Wall at one point), a wealth of information has been revealed such as their tolerance of pain, sunlight dependence, and intelligence.

Now, several years later, the Survey Corps has made little progress but lost much. It boasts a whole new crop of soldiers and commanders, ready to carry out their duty.

((OOC: A bit of background about the current situation before we begin. The a majority of the Survey Corps is stationed at the old, renovated castle seen in the anime in order to train recruits and prepare for the next recon mission into Titan territory outside Wall Rose and eventually outside Wall Maria. At the opening, we'll have everyone arriving to a meeting to discuss a future excursion into Titan territory. That way, we can have everyone in the same place doing the same thing to start out.))

With the sun setting low over the trees outside, Anaïs made her way briskly back inside the castle. A meeting had been called for dusk, and the Captain despised being late. She jogged up the steps and through the big wooden doors, following the familiar path down the looming corridors to the usual meeting place. Upon entering, she found she was the first of the officers to arrive. A few recruits were sweeping up and serving tea, but none of Anaïs' comrades had entered the room yet. Anaïs took her usual spot at the right of the head of the table, just beside the Commander's usual seat. She took her tea gratefully and sipped it. It was a bit bitter, but with the state of the finances these days, she wasn't surprised it wasn't of the highest quality. Anaïs leaned back in her chair to wait for the others to show up.

Once she was done seeing off a couple of trainees, Vreni took her hair out of its tight bun and ran her fingers through the white strands. Her evening with the newbies had gone worse than expected, with more than one person ending up in tears, but she shook off her disappointment and decided to stay unfazed. Turning out the lights and locking the door behind her, Vreni hopped down the stairs and strode towards the meeting room, in which she and her comrades were to discuss future plans. Slipping through the thick wooden door, she was pleased to find Anaïs already present. "As courteous as ever," Ren commented with a nod as she sat down at the head of the table, taking note of how the officer had already begun drinking her tea.

Asce strolled up to the entrance of the castle, wiping some blood from his hands. Despite the protests of the people around him, he had snatched up a rat that had been scurrying around his weapons case and promptly snapped its neck, tearing the flesh in the process. While he had long since disposed of the rat in a trainee's hood, he had yet to rid himself of the debris. After using the mansion's bathroom to clean himself off, Asce sauntered towards the meeting place, entering without a sound and situating himself a couple seats down from the commander's left.

Michael exited a small diner into the dark alley. In one quick motion, his hood shielded his face from the sight of others. A few people stopped to salute or applause his service, yet he took no notice. There wasn't reason to rejoice yet. He approached the designated building where he was to obtain his next assignment. He opened the door and froze in the doorway for a second as he flipped down his hood. One half expected to see a bolt of lightning strike behind him. As he entered the room and took his seat on the right side near the head of the table, he seemed to drag in the darkness from outside. Even a few of the newer members who weren't used to him shied away. Who knows what the others thought. He didn't care. He slouched in the chair a little, folded his arms, and closed his eyes. He didn't need to see to know the goings on at this meeting.

Juniper didn't exactly have very much going on that day, besides getting hit on by the male gender in the town... People always undoubtedly mistook him for a female, probably because of his height and hair. Not that he would be growing any taller, or cutting his hair anytime soon.. He walked through the peaceful forest, on his way to the renovated castle, where he would meet with others, as well as the commander about a few things. The Titans today had been rather suspiciously quiet in his opinion... But maybe it was just coincidental, or his mind playing tricks on him... Probably the latter.

He reached the place of residence, and opened up the wooden door, stepping inside.. Jun walked to where everybody was, taking a seat farthest away from everyone, for he wasn't in a particularly good mood today. He listened to everyone's idle chit chat and hello's, while looking over at his cousin.. She was his inspiration for even becoming a soldier to fight Titans in the first place, and he hoped to one day follow in her footsteps...

Anaïs gave the commander a cocky look and took another sip of her tea. She watched the commander and waited for her to begin the conversation, casting a quick glance down the table at her squad and the other officers in the Survey Corps. She directed her attention back to Commander Vreni, sipping her tea quietly again and waiting for the meeting to start now that everyone had arrived.

Vreni stood up once she saw that everyone had arrived. Leaning forward with both palms face down on the table, she made eye contact with every officer and started off the discussion. "I'm sure you're all well aware that our resources have been dwindling," Ren began slowly, her voice resonating throughout the cramped room. "It doesn't seem like we're going to be endorsed in the way we were hoping. It's disappointing, yes, but we have no choice other than to use what we have now in the most efficient way possible. Michael," she addressed, turning to the officer. "How quickly can you rally up scouts capable of mapping out Titan activity outside Rose?"

Opening his eyes, Michael acknowledged the commander. "My men are ready, Sir. Unless you have any new recruits, then I'd need three minutes."

"Perfect. I was thinking of sending the recon squad to check out the area before we take any action. Our goal is a safe passage from Wall Rose to Wall Maria. Tonight, we'll discuss ideas for our plan. Feel free to pitch in, guys," Vreni informed with a small chuckle. "All suggestions are welcome." Tucking her hair behind her hair, she seated herself once more and crossed her arms, thinking a couple ideas over.

Michael sighed and closed his eyes again. "If you want safe paths, Sir, I advise staying behind Wall Rose. The purpose of the survey corpse is to go where there's no safety, and survive. Each soldier will have to live up to his title. If they do, the recon team will have your path. But first, what exactly is our objective once we reach Wall Maria?"

"Our objective as of now is to establish humanity's first base outside of Wall Maria. The founding of this base will allow our troops to make longer and frequent trips outside the walls, not to mention it'll be a milestone in our progress against the Titans." Ren took a long sip of her tea, wincing at the bitterness. "And I've told you plenty of times to talk casually with me, Michael. Call me Ren, or at least Vreni if that's too much."

Anaïs gave a small grin at Michael's insistence upon professionalism, and looked at Commander Vreni. "Will we send two different squads, then? One to clear a path, and one to transport supplies to build this base?" She took another sip of her tea and finished it off, eyeing Ren for her response.

"That's our best bet. Unless we put our trainees on the field, we don't have enough troops to send a squad out as a diversion, another with supplies, and another on top of that to safeguard the transporting squad." A trainee scurried over and refilled Anaïs' cup, making sure not to stay for long.

Asce piped up from a couple seats down. "I could whip up some freshies for the diversion. That's not a problem. The only obstacle is if they screw up their job."

Mae's first official meeting with the higher ranking officers, and she was late. They'll think I'm just a lazy cadet with no regard for orders. I'll be reprimanded for sure. Mae thought of all the possible punishments that could await her as she sprinted through the castle. Skidding to a halt outside the conference room, she quickly straightened her uniform and took deep breaths to steady herself. No reason to let them see her frazzled. Calm and collected, as any good soldier should be, Mae pushed open the door and stepped inside. Unsure if she should sit without an invitation to, she chose to stand at attention and wait to be addressed.

Asce snickered as the cadet entered the meeting room. "You're late!" he announced, drumming his fingers on the table. He had a habit of badgering the younger ones, despite their obvious frustration. "And not even by a couple minutes. How could you, Nicholl?" he teased with his eyes narrowed, leaning forward on the table. While he didn't have anything against the girl, being late wasn't something he approved of. He just had a different method of displaying his discontentment.

"Shut up," Ren tossed to Asce, who snickered before leaning back in his chair. "Have a seat, Cadet. It's okay if I address you informally, right?" She offered the girl a welcoming smile, motioning towards the seat across from Michael and next to Asce. "We only just got started discussing our plans to establish a base outside of Maria. Suggestions are welcome."

Michael shot Asce an angry stare. The little outburst had made no progress, delayed the meeting, and demoralized a troop. Yet Michael didn't say anything, it would just waste more time. Instead he looked to the new cadet. "The recon team will be paving the way to Wall Maria. The mission, to establish a stronghold beyond it."

Turning to the commander, he continued, "I suggest the recon team make a path toward the breach in the wall. Titans tend to fan out when they come through, they rarely go straight ahead," after a short pause, he decided to elaborate, "Besides, it would be idiotic for a human to go straight down the center. So it's also idiotic for a Titan to hang around there."

Mae just blinked at Asce. There was no excuse for tardiness, and she wouldn't try to explain herself. It was simply unacceptable. Disappointed in herself, Mae nodded at the commander, "Call me whatever you wish." She then took her seat at the table. Resisting the urge to scoot away from Asce, Mae focused on what was being said.

Asce glanced at the girl as she sat down, but kept to himself. She wasn't anyone he had seen prior to the meeting, but then again, he only regularly trained a portion of the troops. "That's true," he chimed in once Michael was finished. "The scouts always report less Titan activity along that path."

Vreni nodded slowly. "I see. And if a couple Titans catch a whiff of us, the squad clearing the path can deal with them." She grabbed one of the papers on the table and flipped it over, drawing a layout on the plain back. "This could work," she began, "but it's essential that not a single soldier shirks from his job. Make sure your lowers are well aware that failure to perform as ordered will not be tolerated."

Asce nodded in agreement, glancing at the clock. He was starving and wanted to catch a meal before his favorite deli shop closed, but by the looks of it, he wouldn't make it in time. With a scowl, he crossed his arms and closed his eyes, sighing at the loss.

Katherine was running late for the meeting, but the bakery she went to had taken forever to finish her order of rolls for the meeting. She scurried down the halls of the castle until she found the meeting room. Knowing she could be yelled at for being so late, she stood straight holding the basket of bread close, and opened the doors with a smile. "Hi, I'm sorry I'm late, but I brought a snack for everyone since the meeting could take a while," she beamed. Then Katherine proceeded to walk to the table and place the bread in the center, but not before taking two loaves for herself. Unsure of where to sit, Katherine just backs off a bit and stands back by a wall slowly munching on her bread while watching to see who else was hungry.

Vreni blinked in surprise. Normally, the officers didn't care enough to bring snacks. The commander reached over and picked out one of the warm loaves, breaking off a piece. "This is a... pleasant surprise. Go ahead and sit," she greeted. "But try to be on time next meeting, yeah?" She took a bite and smiled to herself. She had skipped breakfast and lunch that day in order to keep up with her schedule.

"It's alright, Sir. She was on assignment," called Michael waving his lieutenant to the chair next to him. He leaned over and whispered, "Were you able to get the alcohol I requested?"

Asce just barely picked up what Michael said and smirked, but didn't say anything. Vreni, on the other hand, gave a defeated sigh. "Am I ever gonna get you to stop calling me 'Sir'?" she inquired, a teasing half-smile playing at her lips.

Shizuo was running late to the meeting very late since he was making his tobacco. He walked into the meeting room. "Sorry I'm late got caught on the tides of life." Shizuo said before quickly taking a free seat and looking around waiting for a witty comment of some-sorts to come out.

Katherine quietly made her way to her seat still munching on her bread. She nodded to Michael and handed him a glass bottle to him before turning back to the meeting and eating her bread.

Asce glanced at Shizuo as he plopped into the seat to his left. "Dude, you took forever," he murmured to him. "What held you up?"

Ren closed her eyes, calming herself down. "I expect you all to be on time. Take care to do so in the future." With that, she turned her attention back to the layout. "Here's the plan we have so far. Shizuo, round up people to transport the materials. I want only the quickest troops on the ground, got it?"
