Realistic or Modern The Strange Occurrence of Blackwood Falls

Shanti felt a bit of relief when Mulder didn’t seem opposed to the breaking in idea. That would make at least two people who wouldn’t think she was crazy for being for the idea. But Mulder was right, they would need to do some preparing. Also while she didn’t exactly like how Jake had worded it, he did have a point. Eva could have missed something in her search, and more eyes might help.

She looked over at Skylar when she quietly suggested that they split it up. “I think that’s a good idea.” She said, nodding to Skylar. “Less people at the house might make it a bit easier to go in and out without getting noticed, and it wouldn’t hurt to have someone else check the area again.” She added. “and as for getting prepared.” She added looking back to Mulder and Eva. “What do we need? Flashlights? Bobby pins? I mean how soon are we thinking of doing this? I can help…” She continued, trailing off a bit at the end. And that’s how you make everyone think you’re a juvenile delinquent. She thought to herself bitterly.

"Works for me," Jake said in response to Sky's idea. He was more than fine than going with only a few others. Two or Three others would be the right amount. A couple extra pair of eyes to spot clues and watch his back would be nice, but there wouldn't be so many that it'd be hard to keep trap of them all.

"Yeah, I actually like this idea. When do you want to do this? It would take me 30 minutes to go get all of the stuff we need from my house. I could get this done tonight. Thoughts?"

"Oh, Mulder" Jake also added, "you metiined the ground wasn't tampered with. Did the article mention broken bones? She could have been dropped from the sky in theory, or set down at least. Eva, did you make any special not of the trees and their branches?"

Blythe was late, the tiny pink haired girl ran as quickly as she could; she was just glad she hadn't worn heels today, converse really were a girl's true friend. She looked around as she rushed towards the arcade, but the pavement was crowded with people; did a murder really bring in this many people, seems so. This place had been so small and quiet that something like this was like a three legged donkey winning the Kentucky Derby...Kind of; metaphors were not her forte. "Excuse me! Excuse you! Move you bag of-" She growled as she moved through the crowd, trying to get from point A to point B; it was hard being five foot one! "Umph!" Blythe let out a painful sound as someone 'accidentally' hit her with their bag, she stumbled back a few feet before rubbing her cheek.

"Stay out of the way, child!" The man said as she sneered at her, Blythe glared and stuck her tongue out at him as she was sure her cheek was going to have a big ol' bruise on it. More people rushed around and the pink haired girl was getting pushed and shoved, she almost even lost her bag, Blythe knew she couldn't make it through here. A look around and she got an idea, ducking and weaving she made her way into an alleyway before climbing up the fire escape to the roof. "Freedom!" She said happily as she looked down at the people below, she would have loved to take her time and watch them run around like ants, but she was late for a meeting and held something that might just help them. Blythe quickly tied her hair back into two pigtails to keep it out of her face and tightened the strap of her bag before running, going faster and faster until getting to the edge, she jumped and grabbed onto the edge of the next roof before pulling herself up and running again; right now she didn't care if she got in trouble.

She landed on the roof of the arcade and scaled down the back, no need to make people freak out...again. Blythe cleaned her hands off before rushing around to the front, he ran toward their meeting place and smiled as everything is still there. "Guys!" She said a little out of breath before continuing. "I'm sure you all heard about the murder, but I've got something awesome!" Blythe quickly rummaged in her bag as she kept rambling on. "I went to the library and there were cops everywhere, asking some of the regulars and stuff; I don't think that would do much good but whatever. Anyway I remembered that I use to help Ms. McLeary closing up the library and remembered about this-" Blythe pulled out a key chain with a couple of keys on it. "It's Ms. McLeary's keys, she use to lose them a lot so she kept a spare at the library...Does this make me a felon?" Blythe asked as she frowned slightly. "What have you guys come up with, was it a person? An animal? Aliens?" She asked as she moved closer to Mulder and Ava, they seemed like the unspoken leaders of the group so she went with it. "Who wants the key, I don't trust myself to keep it safe?"

Jace had been one of the first people to arrive, mostly because his teachers let him leave ten minutes early so he could make it through the hall safely, no people pushing and shoving him, no rush, and no one getting angry when he wacked them with his cane; Link didn't always come to school with him and those were the more difficult of days. His father had come to pick him up with Link, and dropped them both off at the arcade. Jace had taken to playing pinball until more of his friends arrive, yes he did consider all those strangely wonderful weird weirdos to be his friends; though he wasn't sure if the feeling was mutual. Jacie started playing, it was hard but Link helped with barking every time the ball got close to the flipper bats; Jace was sure that wasn't the right way to use a guide dog but who cares.

More and more people arrived and he greeted them before going back to playing, he could hear other patrons of the arcade making comments about him and talking about him as if he were some oddity; it wasn't that hard to play pinball, even blind. After a while he got tired of it and gave up, he grabbed Link's harness and headed over to the skee ball machine; it was close enough to their meeting area and he could sit down, not a lot of people played skee ball. Jace put his earbuds in and started listening to a book, he closed his eyes to cut off the limited view of moving blobs.

Though a little while later he tuned back in as almost everyone had arrived, Jacie pull the earbuds off and listened to Mulder and the rest talking about the murder; this was one time Jace was glad to be blind because from the details he heard, Ms. McLeary didn't have a peaceful passing. "Well whatever you guys do, I'm always happy to be look out." He joked as he sat there and leaned against Link, and he moved his face up towards the sounds of people talking. "Alright so we're breaking in and trying to find out how this lady died, I feel like we're going from being a paranormal club to being a bunch of delinquents; sounds fun." A wide smile spread across his face and he shut his eyes, "He's no Scooby Doo but who knows, maybe Link can sniff something out." He patted the goldador who sat there like a statue other than for his tail twitching from time to time.

(Sorry I had to go somewhere)

Sky smiled when she heard it was a good idea. When she heard Jake say something with the word sky in it her head turned quickly over. Her nickname was Sky so whenever someone said something about the sky she would instantly think it was her but then she would soon figure out it wasn't actually.

She thought for a moment before saying. "I don't know when we should go I mean probably at night for the people going to the house but I don't know about the woods," she said as she continued to think. "Oh and if we need a place to meet we can meet at my house, I don't know if you guys have any special place for meeting besides the arcade," She finished saying. Running her hand through her hair and fidgeting with her clothes was a thing she did when she was bored, nervous, or just not even knowing she was doing it. She started to mess with the edge of her shirt as she waited for an answer from the group.

"Or Link could leave hair everywhere and give the police a clue leading back to us." Was Jake's response to the redhead. "Taking the dog isn't exactly the greatest idea. I actually think you would make a pretty good lookout. Stand around outside, and if you hear someone coming, get their attention and play the part of the lost blind person. I'm sure anyone, police especially, would be inclined to help or give you a ride home, therefore distracting them."

Jake then reflected on Sky's suggestion that night was not the time to search the woods. "It ain't exactly the safest I'll agree, but that doesn't worry me. Whether day or night, I'll make sure to bring stuff for protections. If we go now the sight will be relatively fresh and I'm sure that examining the scene in the dark will allow us to interpret the events that unfolded better. It happened at night, therefore whatever happened was based on how the woods looked at night."

"If we don't go tonight, than the next best time would be tomorrow morning at the crack of dawn," Jake suggested, "but we'd have to skip school then. Waiting any longer than that however, and the scene could have changed so much it wouldn't be worth going."

Sky looked around at everyone "So who is going where?" she asked. "I know the woods pretty well" she started "probably because I spend most of my time there," She quietly mumbled. She looked around the the group wondering who would go where and when we would all go. She began messing with her hair and her thoughts began to wonder. She thought for a bit about things and planning how things would go in the woods. This is one reason she always feels let down. She has unrealistic ideas. So when something doesn't go the way she thinks it would she gets a little disappointed.

She leaned against the game table they were at and continued to observe the people trying to figure out each one of them. At least as much as she could. She looked at her phone quickly seeing what time it was and putting it back in her pocket she looked back up at everyone. "So what's the exact plan?" she asked as she waited for a response she began twiddling with her thumbs and stuff. She barley even noticed herself doing it.

Eva looked around, there were so many voices happening, so much talking. Whose idea was it to go again, oh yea... her own. She sighed loudly "Uhm, i'll take the key if that matters to anyone!" But she felt a little unheard, so she said it a little louder "I'll take the key!!" Then walking up to Blythe she put her hand out for the key. While she was waiting she turned to the group, "No there was nothing out of the ordinary about the surrounding area other then a few larva casings from her body." Getting tired of waiting for the key she flung herself onto the ground and began to talk again; "I think it may be best if we go now, they don't care anyways. They never have. The sooner we get there the better, though i feel as if we'll find nothing." Eva's eyes seemed to go into a blank stare as she said this, a look that could give a dead man the chills.

In her head she had so much going on, this was a serious thing for her brother and she needed to be there. Life hadn't been easy for him due to his lack of ability to be a decent person and that made her worry. This may be his big break and it was serious, but what if the response he was looking for wasn't what he got. What if he found himself like the librarian? How would she handle it? Eva sat with her own thoughts, almost waiting to have them interrupted.

Shanti looked over a bit surprised when Blythe revealed that she had a key. “Well… I won’t need to get any bobby pins then. That knocks off a step.” She replied a little quietly. At least this meant she wouldn’t have to actually try to pick a lock. Sure she knew how. Just not well. It was easier to break a window or something to be perfectly honest.

“Well whenever we decide to go, I’ll go with. I don’t want anyone having to check out that house alone. Especially if there is like a killer running around or something.” She added. “If we want to do it tonight, I’m free for that.” She added, directing her attention to Eva. “Or if we should wait, I’m okay with that too.” She glanced at Mulder. “But yeah.. I’m in for a little breaking and entering.” Why did I just say it like that? She thought to herself. Way to sound even more like a little punk. "But um.. also if the police come I can distract them." She added. Not like she had much to lose, in that area. She hadn't gotten in trouble with the police here yet so she assumed she could get off without anything too bad.

Blythe listened and looked around at everyone talking, it seemed she had been a little too late and they seemed to already have a plan forming, the pink haired girl moved closer to Eva and gently placed the keys in her hand. "One of these is the house key but I have no clue about the other two, she never told me what they were for." She replied as she smiled slightly at Eva, "She only spoke about getting locked out of her house a lot and how that was a pain." Blythe chewed on her bottom lip as she waited to see what they would do, "I'm up for going tonight, maybe we can find something the police didn't and there is power in numbers, it is dangerous for only one of us to go; at least three or four should." She replied once she let her lip go and sighed as she looked around the arcade, now what?

Jace just rolled his eyes as Jake said he could play a lost blind kid and thus be a good 'look out' for them, "Of course, just play the role life has given me, how perfect." The sarcasm was thick but he would do it if they needed him, it was true that his hearing was better than that of a person with sight; he could be good at hearing someone coming and playing the shtick of a lost blind person would be distracting, it just kind of hurt that that was the first thing suggested. Jacie shook his head to get rid of his thought before hearing someone mention something about bobby pins, he softly laughed and lightly shook his head as he heard, who he assumed was Shanti. "Bobby pins, good luck trying to break in with that; they're too flexible."

Jace replied before stopping for a moment and lightly rocking his head, "Well it's possible but you have a greater chance of getting the pick jammed and breaking off in the lock. A stronger piece of metal or wire would be best to make a makeshift lever and pick, something a little stronger than twenty gauge wire; nothing fancy." He replied before realizing what he had said, Jace rubbed the back of his neck; had he really said that? "Any who, with you you and I distracting, we'll be invincible; nothing will get past us." He said to Shanti and smiled widely, he held his fist out at her to get a bump and hoped she ignored or didn't hear what he said about the lock picking.

WINNIFRED SANG YU

Location: Arcade Adventure
Mentions: None
Interactions: Crookie Crookie

Winnie flinched when she saw a figure lean towards her from her peripheral vision only to role her eyes when she saw the hand of Mulder reach over and scribble on her paper. She met him with a nice little flick of the middle finger before going back to her doodles. She expected to be shut down seeing coming up with scenarios was not her forte. There was also the fact that she was skeptical of the paranormal as the Pines siblings knew. The whole reason she was even part of the club was because she had nothing better to do, it was between the arcade that smelled of stale pizza and acne cream or her house where yelling never seemed to cease.

Winnie couldn't help but roll her eyes when everyone started talking about breaking into the librarians home. She knew the consequences if they got caught, nothing more than a slap on the wrist but to think the woman could have anything of any interest to the case she thought the cops would have already taken it up for evidence. Too many people were talking for her to comfortably speak so she stayed in the background, intensely scribbling in the margins of her notebook

Ever since the club had gained some popularity Winnie had found it to be a pain. So much talking and conflicting thoughts, there was no room to speak. She knew everyone meant well but Winnie honestly found them all a pain in the ass. Winnie didn't really know all their names, mainly because she never asked, giving most nicknames to remind herself who was who.

Her eyes drifted over everyone before going back to her note taking. "They probably have a cop car stationed right outside her house there for the purpose of keeping nosey teens out." Her voice was soft, not really caring who heard her knowing they all would do it regardless. "Why can't we go to where her actual body was found? Or I don't know do some research and see if anything like this had ever happen, but what do I know?" Shutting her notebook she stuffed it back in her bag before leaning back against on of the arcade games.

Shanti turned her attention towards Jace when he started to talk about lock picking. Well no wonder she almost never actually managed to unlock things. She would remember what Jace said about that. How did he know about that sort of thing though? Not that she was bothered about it, actually is was a bit of a relief that is sounded like he didn't think she was weird or something. "Huh... Good to know." She added, smiling a bit. She finally noticed him holding his fist out and bumped it real quick when she realized it was directed at her.

"Well welcome to the break-in team." Shanti mentally smacked herself for saying that. That sounded stupid. She thought hoping they all would just ignore that. "And don't worry, you don't have to be the distraction if you don't want to..." She added sounding more serious. The thought of any of them standing alone outside just seemed mean. "Plus, you'll miss the fun part outside." She meant that as a joke, but it came out sounding more serious.

"And I'm sure it'll be fine even with Link along." She smiled down at the dog. She would have leaned down to give Link a pat, but refrained knowing you're really not supposed to pet seeing eye dogs unless their owners said so. "Even if he does leave hair and the cops actually bother to do something about it we can just use the excuse that we were just a bunch of curious dumb teens wanting to check out the house of a murder victim because of a dare or something..... I mean that's mostly true anyway..."

"Sorry Jace," Jake said when he heard the kid take offense to his suggestion. "Meant nothing by it, but its a plan thats likely to work. And you have a point." He said turning his head towards Shanti. "I know nothing about lock picking, but I do know about machinery in general. What he says makes sense. I've got some wire that could work at home, as well as some dental picks if those might come in use. I don't know. If stealth wasn't an issue, I'd just give you a master key. But the damn things are way too noisy and would defiantly draw attention from the whole neighborhood."

He noticed the Winnifred decided to speak up for a change. Her idea was essentially the same as his had been. "Thats exactly what I have been saying," Jake followed after her. "We should double check the area where she was found. And I think we should get around to it tonight. So the "break-in" team is beginning to take shape. Who wants in on walking the woods at the witching hour. It'll be fun... probably. Maybe. Who knows."

Sky was spaced out for a good time. It happens all the time. She looked over at the group again and realized she had missed a whole conversation. She sighed to herself and tried to figure out what everyone was talking about but she decided it would be better if she just stayed quiet. She looked over at a group of people in the arcade that was looking at all of them weirdly so she shot back a introverted glance. She then kept trying her best to pay attention but it wasn't easy because of all the different thoughts traveling through her head it felt as if they were traveling at the speed of light.

Looking back up at the group she heard jake talk. "I'll go to the woods," She said with a small smile. Shen then went back to her not talking state and got lost in her thoughts again.

[i'm so sorry i wasn't able to post yesterday, and i unfortunately might not be able to post today, either. i'm reading all your wonderful posts and trying to stay updated, though!]

Nice, Jake thought to himself. He was glad that Skylar had decided to go with him. Though she was new, he'd taken a liking to her. What could he say, she seemed to have good common sense and looked like she was ok with all of the weirdness going on. Now if he could only get another victim... Not that he's the killer. It was just an expression.

"Alright," he said as he clapped his hands together, "that makes one. Who else wants to volunteer as tribute? Come on, don't all up at once now."
